Leaving the maze

Thomas smashed our lips together as we stumbled into our shack, him shutting the door behind us.

"I can't believe that you got me out of work for this." I chuckled against his lips.

"Well I think that we both want our needs met." He smirked, moving his lips down to my neck. I returned the smirk as I joined our lips again. Thomas quickly shrugged his jacket off before quickly breaking the kiss so that he could pull his shirt over his head. He smirked as he pulled my shirt over my head too before joining our lips again. I squealed into his mouth as he picked me up and carried me to our bed before laying me down and crawling over me.

"I thought that we'd never get a moment alone." He mumbled before joining our lips again and intertwining our fingers.

"Neither did I." I smirked against his lips, closing my eyes as Thomas's kisses moved down to my neck. I lazily opened my eyes but they widened as I saw Newt at the doorway.

"Jesus." I gasped, making Thomas stop kissing me and look at Newt.

"Sorry, guys." Newt smiled sheepishly.

"What the fuck do you want, dude?" Thomas sighed as he stood up and shielded my scarcely clothed body from Newt's vision.

"Minho thinks that he's found something. Big. He needs to talk to you, now." Newt nodded.

"We were sort of in the middle of something." I sighed as I grabbed my shirt and pulled it on.

"I know, and I wouldn't interrupt if it wasn't urgent. Finish your sex session later." He chuckled before walking away. I sighed again as Thomas looked at me.

"'Sex session.' What?" Thomas laughed, pulling on his shirt.

"I know. It's a British thing." I chuckled.

"Must be. You two are the only ones who come out with phrases like that." He smirked.

"Excuse me, do you want to fuck me later?" I scoffed as I stood up.

"Of course I do, babe." He smirked, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"Good." I returned. His smirk widened as he leant down and gently kissed me before letting me go.

"Come on. We better see what Minho wants." He sighed as we walked out of the shack.

"A good kick in the balls for interrupting our 'sex session'." I mocked, making Thomas laugh as he swung his arm over my shoulder and pulled me closer.

"What's up?" Thomas asked as we walked into the shack in the woods where Minho had built the map of the maze.

"I think I've found the way out." Minho admitted. Our eyes widened.

"What?" Newt scoffed.

"Do you all remember the key that Y/N was sent in with?" Minho asked. Thomas nodded.

"I didn't think anything of the key hole in the exit wall until I happened to see the key again. It's the exact same size and shape as that hole." Minho admitted. Thomas's eyes widened.

"Are you saying that the key opens that wall?" he scoffed.

"And lets us out? Yeah." Newt nodded.

"How do we test this? How do we know that this is truly it?" I asked. Minho sighed.

"That's the catch. The key hole isn't like normal ones. It looks like once you put the key in, that's it. So, everyone who wants to get out has to come into the maze with us, and has to get to that wall. Anyone left behind doesn't get out." He admitted. My eyes widened.

"Minho, that's one hell of a catch. Out of twenty of us, only three have been into the maze and survived it." Thomas scoffed.

"I know. But I for one am certainly willing to risk my life if it means that I get out." Minho nodded. Thomas returned it and looked at me.

"Would you come?" he gulped. I sighed and looked between the three of them.

"I trust you guys with my life. I know that if we're doing this, it's for the best. So, yeah. I'd come." I nodded. Thomas gulped and returned the nod.

"Okay. I think it's time for a meeting. The centre shack, twenty minutes." Thomas ordered before taking my hand and walking us out.

Thomas stood at the front of the shack as everyone filled in. Gally and Teresa glared at me as they walked in, making Minho wrap a protective arm around me. I looked up at him.

"Thanks." I smiled.

"Hey, you're my sister. We're family now, and I don't stand by and let my family get intimidated by assholes like them." He reassured. I gave him another smile before turning to look at Thomas.

"Okay, guys, thanks for all coming so quickly. We have some rather big news." He started, looking at me. I gave him a small smile, reassuring him that it was okay. He returned it before looking around.

"On yesterday's run, Minho spotted a wall that had a small hole in it. He thinks that this hole is where the key goes, the key that Y/N was sent in with." He nodded.

"Are you saying that you've found a way out?" Winston scoffed, causing murmurs to spread through the crowd.

"Potentially. But, once we open this wall, we don't get the key back. So, whoever wants to get out needs to come with us on today's run because we won't be coming back." He admitted, making people's eyes widen.

"Bullshit." Gally spat.

"Mate, don't." Newt warned.

"How do you know that this is real? This sounds like a fucking suicide mission." Gally snapped.

"Why the fuck would I risk my life, as well as the lives of my girlfriend and my brothers if I didn't think that this could work?" Thomas spat.

"More people dead, more resources for you." Gally shrugged, making Thomas clench his fists.

"Hey, hey." I spoke, standing between them and resting my hand on Thomas's chest to calm him down. I looked at everyone.

"This could be our only chance to get out. Yes, it'll be dangerous, but I certainly would rather risk my life trying to be free, than be safe and spend the rest of my life in this place." I spoke, causing nods of agreement to spread through the shack.

"I think all that needs to be said has been said. Anyone who is coming with us needs to be packed and ready in half an hour. Only pack essentials, we need to be quick, so we can't be carrying a lot. I'll hopefully see people in half an hour." Thomas nodded before leaving the shack. My eyebrows furrowed as he didn't wait for me. Instead, he went straight to our shack. I looked at Minho and Newt.

"Do you guys actually think that this is going to work? I need to know." I gulped. They sighed and looked at each other.

"I think that this is our best shot. And you know that Thomas wouldn't put you in unnecessary danger. He knows that he's risking your life, but he wouldn't do that unless he seriously thought that this was it. He really does think that we can do this." Minho nodded. I sighed and returned it.

"I guess we're leaving, then. I better go pack." I spoke before leaving and heading to our shack. I sighed as I approached to see Thomas's back as he shoved stuff into his small rucksack.

"Tom?" I spoke quietly, making him look over his shoulder at me.

"Hey." He mumbled before going back to packing.

"You okay? I'm worried about you." I admitted as I wandered into the shack. He sighed and nodded as he sat down.

"I just...what if I'm wrong? What if I lead everyone into the maze and to their deaths? What if I lead you to your death?" he choked, looking up at me. I sighed.

"That is a possibility, I won't lie to you. But this may be our only chance. I'd rather die trying to get my freedom than live the rest of my life here. And I'm not the only one who feels like that." I spoke. Thomas sighed and looked down.

"We can do this. We all believe in you. You're going to get us out, Thomas. I know you will." I nodded. He looked at me.

"You really believe that?" he mumbled.

"Of course I do." I reassured. He gave me a small smile and kissed my head before letting me go.

"Okay, then. Start packing, we leave in half an hour." He nodded. I returned it as I grabbed my rucksack and started to shove things into it.

We ran through the maze, Thomas leading us to the bit where we could escape from.

"This way." Thomas spoke as we ran around a corner.

"This is it, we're here." Minho nodded, making us slow down.

"What do we do?" I asked. Thomas dug his hand into his rucksack and got out the key. He gulped and looked at us.

"Once I put this in, we can't go back, and we don't know what's on the other side of that door." He spoke.

"Do it, Thomas. We're all ready to leave this place." Frypan nodded. Thomas returned it and took a deep breath before putting the key into the hole and pushing it in. Immediately, the key disappeared into the hole and Thomas stood back as the wall started to shift. I gulped as it moved to reveal a long black corridor which was only lit by a couple of flickering lights. Thomas took my hand before slowly starting to walk in.

"Hello?" Newt called out. Nothing.

"Good to see the welcoming party." I sighed as we continued down the corridor.

"This doesn't make sense." Thomas mumbled.

"Why not?" Minho asked. Thomas shook his head.

"Where is everyone?" he asked, looking at us. I gulped and shrugged as we reached a door. Minho looked at us before opening it and letting us into the control room.

"Oh my god." I choked as the room was littered with bodies.

"What happened here?" Teresa mumbled.

"Nothing good." Frypan replied. I looked around at the screens.

"All that time and someone was on the other side, watching us instead of helping us." I choked.

"We're out now, that's all that matters." Thomas reassured, taking my face in his hands as he kissed my head. Suddenly, we heard voices from down a corridor.

"What the hell, I thought we were alone." Newt spoke.

"So did I." Thomas mumbled, making me smile slightly as he instinctively put an arm in front of me and pushed me behind him.

"Get down, get down!" the men yelled as half a dozen soldiers ran in with guns.

"Woah, woah, we're not armed!" Minho yelled as we held up our hands. The men looked at us.

"Are you the kids who just escaped the maze?" one asked.

"Yeah, and we didn't escape to immediately be shot at." Newt spat. The men sighed before picking up their guns again.

"We need to go now, everyone out." They yelled before starting to grab us.

"Come on." Thomas mumbled as he gripped my hand and pulled me along to the men.

"Thomas." I choked.

"It's going to be okay." He reassured, giving me a soft smile as the men hurried us down the corridor and out of the open doors. My eyes widened as we stumbled out into the fresh air. I stopped as I looked around. We were finally free. All I could see for miles were sand dunes, never ending, yet we were free. I closed my eyes and breathed in the gritty air, not caring that it was hurting my lungs.

"Babe, come on, we've got to move." Thomas urged as he pulled me to the helicopter that Newt, Frypan and Minho were climbing onto. Thomas lifted me up and Minho grabbed my hands, helping me on as Thomas pulled himself up and the doors shut.

"Go, go, go, the cranks are coming!" the co-pilot yelled, making the pilot start to take off. I took a deep breath as I collapsed into Thomas's arms, making him hug me tightly.

"We're okay, babe. We're okay." He reassured, gently stroking my hair and lulling me to sleep.

Thomas's P.O.V

"We're okay, babe. We're okay." Thomas reassured, gently stroking Y/N's hair and lulling her to sleep. He took a deep breath and let out a sigh of relief as he rested his head against the wall of the helicopter. Minho looked at him.

"You okay?" he asked. Thomas gulped.

"I don't know. That seemed too easy. No attacks from grievers? We hear from no one for the five years that we're in there, but as soon as we get out, someone turns up? This feels wrong." He gulped. Minho scoffed and shook his head.

"What?" Thomas asked.

"We've just escaped the place that we've been trapped in for the last five years and you're still looking over your shoulder. Relax, dude. We're okay." Minho reassured. Thomas sighed and nodded before resting his head against the helicopter wall again. Only then did he realise how tired he was. He let his eyes flutter shut, his hands still resting in Y/N's hair.
