A/N:

Heyo Maze Runner geeks and Disney nerds, this is just a fun thing I came up with! Hope you all enjoy.

Btw "Gladess" is just the feminized version of "Glader" that I came up with. Pronounced "Glade-iss".

Lmao this should be interesting :)
__________

She woke up inside a rattling and rising metal box. Dazed and confused, she sprawled to her feet - but instantly tripped back to the floor. She gazed down at what she tripped over.

Hair?

She took in her surroundings then. She was the only one that occupied the strange metal box, along with her surprising 70-foot-long blonde hair. She hurried to gather her hair and silently sat in a corner. She couldn't remember anything, so she just waited for any answers to come along.

The answer came when the metal box stopped to a halt. Loud creaks suddenly blistered through the stale air, and then a white light began to glimmer through. It got so bright the girl had to look away.

After a few minutes, a voice came from above. "Just another shank!"

Rapunzel, came another voice.

My name is Rapunzel,  the girl concluded.

A rope was thrown down into the box. "We'll pull you up!"

Rapunzel slowly rose to her feet and walked into the light. Voices from above - they seemed to be all girls - changed from mumbles to calls.

"Look at that one!"

"Is that . . . hair?"

"Welp, another blonde."

"Looks like a Track-hoe to me."

"She's actually kind of pretty."

"Hey shuck-face, I'm pretty!"

Rapunzel just ignored the girls' comments and took hold of the rope. A few pulled her up and out of the box once Rapunzel's feet met the grass with ease.

"Thanks," said Rapunzel, and she slowly twisted her head around to view her surroundings. She and the other girls stood in a vast courtyard, surrounded by ginormous stone walls that towered over them on all four sides. Each wall had an opening split in each of its centers. Rapunzel noticed the closest opening and could see that there were deeper corridors beyond.

And then she ran. "We got a Runner!" someone yelled, and commotion sprung out in an uproar. Rapunzel ran as fast as she could to the opening, sprinting as she got closer.

"Stop!" came a shrill voice, and a heavy weight toppled over poor Rapunzel, causing her to fall.

"Get off of me!" Rapunzel yelped.

Six girls rushed over and grabbed Rapunzel from different places. They rose her to her feet and yanked her all the way to a man-made prison cell. Rapunzel was shoved and locked inside. "Hey! Get me out of here!"

A girl with jet-black hair pulled high into a ponytail looked down on her. "You'll be in here for a while for what you just did," she taunted.

"What?" Rapunzel asked wholeheartedly. She had no idea what was going on!

"Meg, leave the Greenie alone!" called a Scottish-accented voice.

Meg squinted over her shoulder and pursed her lips in annoyance. She darted her eyes back at Rapunzel and stabbed her with a long glare, then briskly got up and left.

Rapunzel waited for the Scottish-accented girl to appear. And there she was, a ginger who's hair was large and twisted and twirled all over in complicated curls. She had a prompt frame but a limp on her right foot.

"Hello," she greeted. "My name's Merida. I see you met my dear friend Meg; it'll be tough getting used to her, but there's other girls here that you can acquaint yourself to."

"Where exactly am I?" Rapunzel immediately asked.

Merida smiled. "If you want the truth, Greenie, nowhere good. We live in this here Glade, and out there's the Maze."

Rapunzel blinked. "Maze?"

"Merida!" An older girl rushed over. She had darker skin and pin-straight, silky black hair. "I'll deal with the Newbie."

"You're the boss," Merida sang and walked away.

"Hello," the new girl turned to Rapunzel.

"Um, hi."

"Name's Pocahontas," she knelt down and grabbed hold of the jail door. "Come with me."

Pocahontas led Rapunzel around the Glade and showed her all the places within. They started at the Box - where Rapunzel entered the Glade from.

Pocahontas informed, "Most of everything we have comes from this here Box. Once a month, we get a Newbie like you, and once a week, we get supplies, food, clothes and such."

"Where does this Box come from?" Rapunzel asked.

"Not sure," Pocahontas said, "The people who put us here don't tell us anything."

Rapunzel blinked. "People put us here?"

"The Creators, we believe," Pocahontas said with finality. "Anyway, enough of this. Moving on."

And so Pocahontas continued the guide-through to the Homestead, Gardens, Bloodhouse, Deadheads, and kitchen.

"You'll be trying out each of the jobs we have one day apiece for the next week or so," Pocahontas said, "One always sticks."

Rapunzel nodded, she understood that much.

"There is one last, important thing we need to make sure you understand," said Pocahontas. "We have rules here, and like the rest of our girls, you'll be required to follow them. First, the Number One Rule. Never, never go beyond those walls. Ever. I'm serious. If this Number One Rule is broken, there is no way you will be forgiven. You will receive Banishment. No further questions."

Rapunzel resisted. "What is out there?" She pointed to the passageways of the walls.

"Not a subject I will be covering on the Tour," Pocahontas responded a little too quickly and bluntly.

"But-"

"Greenie," Pocahontas put a hand in front of Rapunzel's mouth. "I said no further questions. You will find out all you need to know in short time."

"But . . ."

Pocahontas laid a finger on her own mouth, indicating for Rapunzel to stop. Rapunzel owned her mouth to speak, but reluctantly let down her head. The duo stood in silence then, until Pocahontas continued.

"Number Two Rule, don't harm another Gladess. If done, punishment is to the Slammer. You were just there, so you know the conditions."

Rapunzel nodded.

"Lastly, Number Three Rule. It's simple, do your part. This is your family now, we all have to cooperate to help it."

Rapunzel nodded again.

"Are you getting this, Greenie?"

Rapunzel took in a breath. "Yes ma'am, all except the 'Greenie' part."

Pocahontas smirked. "It's what we call the newest Newbies. It doesn't wear off until the next girl."

Merida busted in again: "Er, sorry to interrupt, but--"

"What is it, Merida?" Pocahontas insisted.

"Meg's begging for a Gathering. She wants you to come."

"I'll be there."

Merida looked over at Rapunzel. "Oh, I know someone who can accompany you, Greenbean," she smiled. "Sofia. Wee little young shank. Come on."

As Pocahontas went to the Gathering, Rapunzel followed Merida to find Sofia near the Homestead.

Sofia was the youngest girl the Glade. She looked thirteen, whereas the other girls were in their midteens and the oldest being twenty-one. Sofia had short, wavy golden-brown hair and big blue eyes.

Merida left Rapunzel and Sofia alone since she had to attend the Gathering.

"Um, hello," Rapunzel greeted.

"Hi . . . shank." Sofia's voice was small, and Rapunzel could tell she hadn't quite grasped the terms of the Gladesses yet. Sofia had been the Newbie for a whole month before Rapunzel.

Sofia observed Rapunzel with growing eyes. "That's a lot of hair."

Rapunzel tried laughing. "Yeah. I don't remember how . . ."

How the heck did her hair get so long?

"Sofia, besides my trail of hair, what do I look like?" Rapunzel asked honestly. She didn't exactly know about her features, and she was quite concerned.

"Hmm," Sofia put on a 'concentration face'. "Well, golden yellow hair. Big green eyes. Seventeen or eighteen. You're actually quite pretty."

Rapunzel smiled for the first time she could remember. "Thank you. But . . . eighteen? How?"

Sofia shrugged. "I look eight but I feel thirteen."

A large boom cracked through the air then. Rapunzel jumped and frantically looked around. A horrible gnawing sound followed, like gravel munching on gravel. "What's going on?!" Rapunzel almost yelled over the noise.

Sofia was unfazed. "Greenie, that's just the walls!"

"What?"

"The walls, look!" Sofia repeated, and suddenly grabbed Rapunzel's hand and hurried to the East entry.

As they came closer to the East Door, Rapunzel got view of the astonishing sight. The passageway of the East wall was coming together. It looked unnatural, it was like defying gravity or something.

They stopped by a group of girls trying to catch their breath. "See, these walls shut tight everyday at six, and reopen every morning at six," Sofia said. She manually turned Rapunzel around - who was too caught up to do it herself - and pointed to the group of girls. "Those chicas travel through what's in there every day, and they all come back right before the closing. They're pretty important."

Rapunzel quickly came back to reality. She unhooked from Sofia's grasp and rushed over to the group of girls.

"Wait! Greenie, what are you doing!"

One of the girls from the group looked like she was about to fall to the ground from dehydration. Rapunzel hurried over and got hold of her. "Hey hey hey, easy. You all right?"

The girl dropped to her knees and Rapunzel quickly dropped with her to pick her back up. "Dude, I'm fine," the girl breathed heavily, "I just need water."

Rapunzel shouted for Sofia. "She needs water!"

Sofia, dumbfounded, stood where she was. Why wasn't she helping?

A water bottle was tossed to the girl. She immediately began devouring it. Rapunzel remained confused. "Okay, okay, uh, what were you doing out there?"

"Um, my job?" the girl looked up at her. Then she looked in a different direction. "Is this the new crazy shank we got?"

Sofia hurried over and yanked Rapunzel aside. "Dude! What are you doing?" Sofia whispered.

"Sofia," Rapunzel almost whined, "She looked like she was about to pass out! I thought-"

"Greenie, she's a Runner. The only thing you have to be worried about is when she's out there." Sofia jabbed her thumb at the now-closed East Door. "Besides, that's Mulan you're talking about. She's the best Runner we have. And no one wants to mess with her unless you want to lose in a sass competition."

Rapunzel looked back at Mulan. She was an Asian girl with smooth black hair that reached her shoulders. She looked fit and sleek to be a Runner.

Rapunzel turned back to Sofia. "What's a Runner?"

Sofia leaned on her hip. "If you couldn't tell by context, they run the Maze. What's out there. It's the most important job around here. Whatever those girls do out there, it's for our survival."

"Well, well, what do we have over here?" came a shrill voice. Rapunzel and Sofia turned around to see Meg nearing towards them with her hands crossed upon her chest.

"Greenie," Meg sneered at Rapunzel.

" . . . Shank," Rapunzel said uneasily.

Meg grinned in amusement, then waltzed right up to Rapunzel. Her grin vanished, now replaced with sincerity. "Listen Greenbean twat, I know you. I've seen you before."

Rapunzel shook her head/ "I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Listen, you can act all clueless as you want, but believe me when I tell you this - once your true self is revealed to everyone, you are going to wish you never came up through that Box." Meg glared dangerously into Rapunzel's eyes.

"Uhhh . . ." was all Sofia could muster.

Meg spun around. "Don't you have lots of sloppin' to do?"

Sofia looked at Rapunzel with sad eyes, and then dragged away.

"What's your problem?" Rapunzel said in a low voice. "Why are you doing this?"

"Take it as a warning," Meg declared. "Oh, and no matter what Pocahontas or Merida say, I'm the real leader here. I'm Meg, but you should call me Queen Meg because I prefer it."

Meg gave Rapunzel one last bitch-face. "See you at the bonfire tonight, Greenie."

Then she spun around and intentionally hit Rapunzel in the face with her ponytail.

Rapunzel scrunched her nose and slanted her eyebrows inward and clearly showed her irritation as Meg swayed away.

A hand touched Rapunzel's right shoulder suddenly, and Rapunzel peeped her head around. It was Mulan with a smirk on her lips.

"Isn't Meg just your favorite?"
