Chapter 4: To Forgive

A/N Quick reminder for this chapter: Hinata and his family do live in an old farmhouse on the outskirts of the town.

The days that followed his mother's death, Hinata wandered like an empty shell left at the bottom of the ocean. Saying as few words as possible to those who spoke to him, knowing full well his mother told him to continue to be happy, filled with joy, and brimming with light. But in place of happiness, his thoughts had been replaced by what he could've done differently to save his mother, constantly blaming, going over every step he had taken that day as if it would change what was now in the past. Continuously denying himself any sort of forgiveness or redemption.

Hinata began pushing himself away from anyone and everyone as he caged himself in his room, rarely leaving for basic necessities while his Natsu was forced to watch her older brother slowly collapsed into himself under the weight of the thoughts and regrets that were constantly rushing through his head. While Natsu felt heartbroken and sad herself, she knew full well it was nothing compared to what her brother was going through.

Putting aside her own feelings Natsu pushed herself off her own bed and downstairs to make breakfast for herself and her brother. Since she was still young her mother had always told her not to touch the stove, so continuing to follow her instructions she instead poured 2 small bowls of cereal, climbing onto the kitchen counter in order to reach the bowls that were kept neatly stacked in one of the cupboards. Without haste, Natsu brought the two bowls upstairs with the hope that her brother would not only be willing to eat, something he recently did very little of, but also be willing to eat with her for the first time since their mother had died.

Carefully Natsu managed to organize her hands and bowls in a position that allowed her to knock on her brother's door. Natsu then cautiously knocked three times, being mindful to not drop the bowls but also making sure the knocks were clear and loud enough that she would know her brother heard them.

"Hinata?"She called out.

The only reply Natsu received was the slight noise of the wind outside.

"HINATA!" She then yelled, getting annoyed at her brother's current mindset.

At last, she acquired a response, while it was only a very quiet mmm, she was just thrilled that her brother had responded.

After the quite mmm, slow footsteps followed and grew louder as they reached the door Natsu had become oh too familiar with. Slowly the golden knob turned clockwise as the door followed, opening just as slowly as Hinata revealed himself, hair going every which way, along with red eyes and tear-stained cheeks showing the clear remains of all the recent crying Natsu's older brother had been silently suffering through alone in a cold isolated room.

"Good morning sleepy head!" Natsu smiled, walking passed Hinata and sat in the middle of his bedroom floor, outstretching her arm, handing him one of the cereal filled bowls.

Hinata took the bowl from his sister's small hands mumbling a "thanks." as he bowed his head, placing himself across from his sister on the floor.

The next few moments were filled with complete and utter silence as they both ate away at their cereal. Despite the silence, Natsu was grateful to be eating with her brother once again, while it may not have been the same as before she still considered it progress to getting her brother back to his usual self.

Hinata's room was fairly empty, a small window that was opposite of the door was the only source of daylight, the lamp on his desk and bedside tables being his main sources of light. A large, torn, rainbow patterned carpet held its place in the middle of the room while the single, metal frame, twin bed was to the right of the window against the cold light green painted wall that was slowly peeling at the seams. At the end of the bed was a small wooden trunk that contained the limited number of clothing he owned that was either previously owned or made by his mother. To the left of the window stood a small, wooden desk covered in many scratches and dents, with a few drawers at the bottom left side. But splattered across his desk were a few photos of him and his family, crafts they had made together, and gifts he had received from his mother over the years.

As Hinata and Natsu both finished their cereal Hinata placed the bowl in front of his sister as he stood up and walked towards his bed, falling onto the bed on his side, pulling the covers over his small body right afterwards. Natsu knew that it signalled that it was time for her to leave Hinata to himself once again so she stood up, taking both bowls with her as she exited the room. Taking the golden knob she once again brought the door to the same state it had been just a few moments before.

As the days continued to pass both Hinata's friends, family friends and Asahi constantly dropped by the house in hopes of assisting Natsu and cheering him up but despite all their efforts, they received the same result Natsu had the day they ate breakfast to each other. They couldn't bring the flame back to their star. They repeatedly brought along goods with them such as food, toys, or other random items trying their best to support Natsu and save Hinata. But while Natsu had already accepted her mother's death, Hinata was a whole other case that still remained to be solved.

"Hinata!!" Noya screamed out of absolutely nowhere, as he kicked Hinata's door open, causing the boy who had been sleeping peacefully to flail and fall out of the comfort of his bed. Noya had, not only broken into his friend's house at 6:45 in the morning but, had, had enough of Hinata moping around and decided it was time to take action.

I took a few moments for Hinata to register what had happened and who had basically broken into his home he mumbled a familiar 'mm' while he rubbed his head with his hand, noticing the sun had only begun to creep over the horizon, as he climbed back onto his bed, and crawled under the warmth of the covers.

"Hinata it's been weeks! I know you miss your mom and you have a lot of regrets but you're hurting her and breaking your promise by sitting here, moping like this! So stop pitying yourself, use those two things you have that are called legs and get up!" He hollered, stomping up to the side of the bed and ripping the covers off the small boy. As the chaos continued with Noya physically dragging Hinata off the bed and onto the floor, Tanaka appeared in the doorway with Natsu, half awake by his side.

"What's going on?" she mumbled, rubbing her eyes, ridding them of the sleep that still remained in the corners.

"We're going to get your brother up and back to his old self. We're sick of him acting like this and I can't even imagine how sick you are of this attitude of his" Tanaka answered, a look of determination across his face.

"Really?!" Natsu beamed, tears forming in the corners of her young eyes as the widened and filled with hope.

"You bet we are! Everyone needs him back to normal and you need your big brother back. So he's going to be even if it's the last thing we do!" Noya assured as he grabbed Hinata's hand, yanking off the ground and onto his feet.

"Now. Get dressed and meet us at the door in 5 minutes. If not we'll strip you down to your underwear, forcibly drag you to the centre of town and throw you in the fountain. Then you'll definitely be awake, by then the sun will be up meaning the whole town will be awake and get to witness it."

In fear of being humiliated and thrown in the cold water, Hinata sprung up and dashed towards the end of his bed, opening the chest gathering and putting on his clothing.

As Hinata was doing so Noya left the room and impatiently waited downstairs while Tanaka took the brotherly role and went to help Natsu get ready herself.

Eventually, everyone made it to the entryway, ready to leave to whatever location they were headed.

"Soo...Where are you guys taking us?" Hinata questioned, his voice returning to the same depressing monotone voice he had replaced the joyful tone the past, long few weeks.

Tanaka then suddenly went behind him and pulled a piece of soft fabric over his eyes causing him to slightly jump in shock of the sudden object while Noya calmly answered his question with the smirk on his face being the last thing Hinata saw. "You'll see."

After the small group walked for what felt like a mile of trudging across dirt roads, grassy fields, and bumpy terrain they finally and suddenly stopped as they paused to acknowledge their location, making sure they were in the right place while a confused Hinata remained without sight, standing amongst the others.

"Ok we're here." Noya declared as he took off the blindfold was removed and Hinata's sight was returned.

After the blindfold was removed what was revealed Hinata was a bright light that once he adjusted, revealed a place that remained a very sacred place in his heart, the one and only patch in the forest.

"Guys..." He trailed as he began tearing up. At the patch, there was a picnic set up with beautiful foods and surrounded by his friends.

It finally registered to Hinata that all this time, while he had been depressed his friends and sister had been worried and trying to cheer him up, while he brushed them off, ignoring them instead of accepting their help.

"Guys I'm so sorry, thank you." Was all Hinata could say before he broke and tears began to stream down his face, grateful to be surrounded by such amazing and trustworthy people.

"No problem, that's what we're here for." Tanaka and Noya both smiled as they slapped Hinata on the back, causing him to misplace his footing and take a few steps forward. Hinata then wiped his tears and replaced them with the smile they had all come to know and love. The smile that made anyone's day better and allowed his mother to rest in peace.

"Glad to see you're back to yourself again Hinata." Yamaguchi chimed.

"Glad to be back," Hinata replied as his little sister hugged him, beaming with joy and glad and grateful that her big brother finally returned back to his normal self. As her brother returned the hug, wrapping his arms around her small but comforting body.

"Guys, if we don't eat this food soon, the bugs are going to get at it," Tsukishima stated, ignoring the mood.

"Oh right, we might want to do that." Hinata chuckled as he sat down alongside the others, thankful that he was able to be himself again with the help of those around him.

Their star had once again returned to the flame beaming star they all know and love.

Sorry, I know this chapter is a bit shorter compared to the last but I was just so satisfied with that last line that I decided to just continue in the next chapter. Also, the last chapter was extremely long and I hadn't planned that So sorry bout that but there will be more.

So far I really like this story especially the beginning and have a lot planned for it, let's just hope i'm able to put that plan into words. Either way that's the end of the chapter for, hope you enjoyed!
