Chapter 1: The Start of Something Bigger

"Shouyou, where are you going?!" Hinata's mother yelled at him as he began to leave through the door of their little farmhouse.

"Just to play in the forest!" He yelled back, momentarily slowing his pace so his mom could hear him.

"Ok! Just be careful and back in time for dinner!" Little did either of them know, that day Hinata spent in the forest would change his life forever.

Hinata ran as fast as his tiny 10-year-old legs could take him, which was surprisingly quite fast. Once he finally reached the forest, he ran down a small path he created that went deep into the forest. When he finally reached his destination he fell on his back spreading across the soft grass.

The area was a small open patch in the forest where the sunlight shone perfectly through the trees. The grass, a soft green and the texture just as soft. Flowers creating a rough circle around the edges. It was a place Hinata could always turn to when he was upset or just needed something to do. He loved it there and could easily just lie there for hours.

As Hinata enjoyed the comfort of the sun and grass he heard footsteps approaching from the distance. Out of fear of the unknown Hinata immediately jumped behind a bush that would be considered normal sized, but instead, it towered over him.

Why is someone else so deep in the forest? Hinata questioned as he peeked between the leaves trying to see who was there. The stranger approached in his direction but stopped as soon as he reached the patch Hinata had just been lying in. He paused and he looked around as if to make sure no one had followed him. Hinata continued to watch as the stranger lied down sighing and mumbling something that Hinata couldn't make out.

Hinata tried to push his face further through the bush the branches rubbing against his face, attempting to get a better look at the stranger. But instead, he ended up screaming and jumping out at the stranger all because of a spider.

The stranger immediately sat up and looked directly at Hinata.

"H-Hi" was all Hinata could muster. The stranger had black raven hair and dark blue eyes to go with it. He looked about Hinata's age but dressed in fancier, well-made clothing which was the exact opposite of him who wore tattered and old clothes his mother had made him. Unlike Hinata who was stricken with fear both of the spider and the stranger, the stranger looked at him with both confusion and curiosity.

"'Umm, Hi?" The stranger finally answered.

"S-s-sorry to bother you, it's just that I was lying here and I heard you coming so I-I-I hid behind that bush there." Hinata stuttered still scared of how the stranger may react.

"It's fine, but would it be alright if I stayed for awhile? I really don't want to go back." The stranger politely asked but with a slight note of sadness.

"S-sure, but may I ask, how did you find out about this place? I thought I was the only one who knew about it." Hinata had started to relax while keeping his guard up.

"I've known about it for years and have used it as a place to go to when I don't want to be at home."

Weird, how come we've never met then? Hinata asked himself.

"Same goes for me, it's a really wonderful place."

The stranger just nodded in agreement until he blurted his own question.

"So what's your name then?"

"What me?" Hinata asked confused.

"Well, I don't see anyone else here do you?"

This made Hinata chuckle and finally lower his guard.

"I guess you're right, the name's Hinata, Hinata Shouyou. You?" He answered, a smile spreading across his face.

Slightly smiling the stranger told Hinata his name, "Kageyama. Kageyama Tobio."

The two of them ended up talking and laughing harder than either of them had ever laughed. Kageyama calling Hinata and idiot here and there, Hinata doing the same. They continued to talk until the sun began to slip under the horizon. By that point, the two of them had already become close friends and had fallen asleep in the patch in the forest they now shared. That night, Hinata didn't make it home on time for dinner.

A/N:

This is probably one of the only writings I'm so proud of and this is the end of the first chapter. I hope you enjoyed and there is plenty more to come.
