40|Engagement
"I'm so happy, you agreed to come," Gina stated, walking with Sally towards the five starred restaurant.
"Yeah Jamie took a lot of convincing put I pulled it off. Made me swear that I would watch out for you too," she said, raising a perfectly manicured brow.
Gina rolled her eyes. "I don't need you watching out for me. I perfectly capable of handing myself."
Sally flashed her an unconvinced look that had Gina staring down at her flatly. "Seriously?"
Sally stopped and sighed, dropping her shoulders in the process. "I believe that you're working on it but there's still the Gina rebellious Gray still in there."
Gina scoffed. "Ofcourse there is and there will always be because it'll always be apart of who I am but you don't see me walking around fucking random guys or drinking drunk, do you?" she challenged.
Sally's lips curled. "Well you're right and I'm happy that you're done with all that," she said as her red lips stretched and introduced teeth. "Come on, I'm actually eager to meet Tina's fiancé. I bet they're much alike," she chuckled, walking ahead, her little black dress hugging her slender hips and putting her lengthy legs on display.
Gina smiled as she followed behind, though not admitting her eagerness, she was very much enthused to see the woman who was behind Tina's love story. Hers on the other hand had gone tense when she had refused to hold a solid conversation with Knox ever since Lisa's big reveal. She just thought there was so much going on with little space for processing.
After Gina had explained things to Sally days ago, she had quickly agreed that it wasn't a right time for Lisa's visit and reassured Gina that if she in fact came, the guestroom at her house would be available for Gina to stay. While Gina had laughed at that at the time, the idea didn't seem so bad after she had given it much thought.
Stepping inside, Gina adjusted the hem of her red, backless bodycon dress and tucked a rebellious strand of hair behind her diamond-studded ear.
The inside of the affluent-looking building was just as impressive as the vallet-aided parking on the outside, giving off a welcoming feeling that extended to the hanging lamps and the subtle sound of classical music. The smell varied from airy, mixing with the mouthwatering smell of fine cuisine and the jarring scent of expensive perfumes.
Though elegant with an obvious effort placed in the decor, both Gina and Sally didn't seem completely captivated by the scenery. With their status and liefstyle, this only seemed mediocre.
As soon as their gazes began to scan for signs of Tina, they spotted her moving towards them with a full blown smile.
"I was just about to call you guys," she said, taking turns to hug them both.
"Tina, you look...great!" Gina complimented. "I love the new hair," she said, her gaze sweeping over the Mohawk haircut, that curled softly in the middle. Big hoop earrings framed her small face along with the trail of tiny studs that curved her entire ear. She wore minimal makeup and a soft peach lipgloss that Gina thought went well with her skin tone.
Gina's gaze lowered to Tina's loose long sleeved top that had a few buttons open, hinting at her cleavage that sparkled a necklace. Completing the look was a matching black seam pant and short heels.
"Thanks Gray. And you're looking finer than before. I see Warner's diçk agrees with you," she smirked as her gaze slowly swept down Gina's body.
"I see someone's still got a crush," Sally pointed out with a raised brow.
Tina grinned. "There's no secret there, Sal and hey, you look fucking lovely too," she winked, her gaze straying back to Gina who was smiling.
"Where's your fiancée, T? We're dying to meet her," she said, wanting another distraction.
A grin broke Tina's face. "Yeah, right this way babes," she said as she began to lead the way to their table.
As they approached, Gina saw a woman smile as she stood, her black hair hanging past her shoulders, her curves in full display in the olive green dress she wore. Gina smiled but as recognition dawned, her expression turned to shock.
"Rachel!" she exclaimed, eyes wide.
"OMG, Rachel Jones?" Sally cut in, just as shocked as Gina was.
Tina grinned. "Your expressions are way more iconic than I'd expected," she said, wrapping her arms around a smiling Rachel.
"Gina, Sally, it's nice to see you again," Rachel exclaimed, moving to hug them both.
"How did this even happen?" Sally was saying as she pulled out a chair. "In college you were pretty darn straight as I can recall and you hated Tina!" she exclaimed in amazement, glancing at Gina for backup which she got.
"Yeah, I even heard you were engaged...to a man, once."
Rachel shrugged. "I guess after years of convincing myself I wasn't gay, I finally accepted the fact that I was. Life-changing Ofcourse, but I'm happy," she said, glancing to Tina with admiration in her eyes.
Gina thought maybe her mouth was to the floor by now but that didn't seemed to matter as much as this big reveal. She just found it hard to believe since in college, Rachel was a rebel who had her fair share of the boys and Tina, the girls.
"And the whole feud with Tina, I realised, was based on the fact that I was angry at myself for not being as spontaneous as Tina was with her sexuality. I guess I just took it all out on her."
"And of course that's all water under the bridge," Tina reassured, leaning to kiss Rachel on the lips. Sally glanced to Gina who rose a brow impressively.
The waiter came and took their orders before the conversation started up again.
"So, T, were you seeing Rachel when you came to my house -"
"Nah, after the video was released, I went out of town for a bit until shit settled, and I met Rach at this lesbian bar - imagine my surprise," she chuckled. "We kicked things off and here we are."
"So you've been together for about a month?" Sally raised a brow.
Tina scoffed. "Well, some people don't wait nine years to pop the question, Sal," she shot back with a little ice.
"Ouuu!" Gina exclaimed as she began to laugh, while Tina and Rachel joined in.
Sally nodded, smiling. "Fair enough."
"But hands down the shortest engagement was Gray's," Tina inserted, eyeing Gina. "I mean, she was engaged before she even knew it."
Sally laughed loudly, seeing that the joke was no longer on her. Gina sent her a flat glare which made Tina and Rachel laugh.
"Well now everyone's happy so..." she shrugged, taking a sip of her wine.
Silence...
Tina glanced from Sally to Gina. "Ok, something's definitely up. What are you bitches not telling?"
Gina pulled in a breath. "I just got a lot of drama dealing with," she admitted, refilling her glass.
"You always liked drama, Gray," Tina pointed out.
"Some type. Not the baby mama drama," she murmured, the glass to her lips.
"The Fuçk?" Tina hissed. "What baby, what mama, what drama?"
Gina mustered a sigh and filled in Tina on the whole Lisa, Knox, April predicament.
"Whoa! That's some epic shit right there. I think you should leave his ass. That's too much - even for you Gray," Tina exclaimed.
"Babe," Rachel said, clearly disapproving. "Look Gina, take it from me, no matter who you end up with, at one point in your life there's going to be something in the relationship that you'll think you're incapable of handling- something will always feel like too much but no relationship is easy and that's why the vows say 'for better or worse,' - you're given fair warning-"
"But those vows were basically nothing babe, since Gray didn't agree to marry Knox in the beginning," Tina pointed out.
Rachel flashed her a hard stare. Tina held her hands up in mock surrender and eased back in her chair.
She looked to Gina. "You love Knox, don't you?"
Gina nodded. "Ofcourse."
"And if he's the person you see a future with then you've got to accept all that he is and all that he has because you're both in this together and marriage is a union," she said softly.
"But it goes both ways babe. Warner needs to stop acting like a dick and make it clear what he wants," Tina exclaimed firmly. "'cause he can't have it all."
"If he allows this woman to come, I think it's for April and no one else," Rachel reasoned.
"But what about Gina? And I don't want to sound like a bitch, but he's been giving this little girl what she wants for years. I think it's Gina's time to get what she deserves from this relationship," Tina said, words directed at Rachel.
"Well maybe enough isn't being said. Communication is key and without it, the relationship will fail-"
"Yeah and-"
"Ok ok guys," Gina decided to intervene. "Tonight is about you guys- not me and my marriage. I want to hear all about your experiences - I also want to see that video so come on," she exclaimed, pointing at them both with a smile on her face.
They began but their voices faded as Gina's thoughts wandered to what was earlier said.
