Chapter Three

Sean and Malcolm were in the secret room tallying everything that they had. From guns to daggers and bows. Anything that they could use as a weapon, it was also the same day that the hunter would come after him and they needed to make sure that Sean was ready to survive. Malcolm was in the middle of packing a black bag when a hard knock hit the door. The two brothers paused and glanced at each other, both thinking the same thing. They would shoot one of them while the other could escape, hopefully unscathed. Malcolm motioned for his brother to stay in the secret room while he dealt with the stranger at the door. Sean watched from around the corner as his brother opened it to reveal a man dressed in a dark green shirt and camo pants. His hair was faded pink, and he had weapons on every other part of his body.

"How can I help you?" Malcolm asked. The stranger pulled out a badge that Sean wished he could see, but from the distance he was, he couldn't make out anything on there. It looked like a police badge to him. Sean's eyes grew wide as he backed away.

"My name is Mark Edward Fischbach," Mark said. "I'm with Hunter corp, and I'm here to take out Sean."

"He's not here." Malcolm said, Sean saw brief movement, a signal for Sean to get moving. Sean raced back into the room and finished packing the bag, stumbling over himself and wishing he could cry.

"I won't ask again," Mark responded. "You know that it's against the law to keep him hidden?"

"Of course I know that," Malcolm scoffed. "Maybe it would be better if you left." Mark sighed and urged Malcolm to step outside.

"Please step out?" Mark asked. Malcolm slowly stepped outside, giving Sean a chance to escape. Sean hoped his brother would keep Mark distracted long enough for him to leave. He grabbed his bag and slung it over his shoulder. With the chance he had, Sean left the secret room and ran for the back door. He pushed it open and ran out heading towards the fence. His shoes made a soft sound as it touched the grassy lands and he hopped over the fence, running for the forest. The further he got, the more sudden pain shot through his arm. He leaned against the tree and rolled up his sleeves. His asthma had come back, but he couldn't think about it. He glanced at his arm and saw that the symbol was glowing.

Mark talked to Malcolm when his badge glowed. A smirk appeared on Mark's face as he faced Malcolm. His brother was nearby, and by hiding him and lying about his location, that had been treason. Eminent death was next on the list. Here, Malcolm still tried to hide that Sean had snuck away. Mark looked past Malcolm and saw Sean jump the fence, heading for the forest.

"I think he left to go to a friend's house." Malcolm suggested. Mark ignored the older McLoughlin and pulled out an m1911 pistol. He checked the magazine to see if the bullets were there and clicked it into place. Mark noticed the brief movement as Malcolm's eyes landed on the gun. He tensed as Mark held up the gun at his head.

"I won't ask again," Mark ordered. "Where is Sean?"

"I don't know! I swear!" Malcolm exclaimed.

"You can't hide him forever," Mark chuckled. "I will hunt him down and kill him like all my other prey." Malcolm seemed to regain his composure and stood tall. Mark didn't find it anymore threatening.

"You won't find him!" Malcolm yelled. "My brother is more than just game to you and your hunter friends, Fischbach!" he continued. "You'll see, pretty soon, his powers will appear and everything you and the government stand for will be destroyed!" Mark rolled his eyes and pulled the trigger, the gun emitted a loud bang and the bullet struck the assailant in the head, being proud of himself, he watched the dead body fall, Mark placed his gun back in his holster and went after Sean.

Sean heard the gunshot through his house. The young hunted did not dare to look back. His heart pounded. Using his inhaler, Sean sucked in two puffs before quickly placing it into his bag. He took off further into the forest. However, gunshots erupted from around him. Sean gasped as a shot went off in front of him and he fell back. Sean turned to find Mark walking toward him. His eyes widened as he forced himself to his feet and searched for a place to hide before Mark could capture and kill him. Picking up the pace, Sean tried to get further away from him, except the minute he ran faster he tripped over a root landing face first in the dirt. Fearing for his life, he turned again to see Mark caught up.

"Nice try, McLoughlin, but there's nowhere else to run." Mark warned and pulled out the same gun, pointing it right at Sean's heart.

"What have you done to my brother?!" Sean exclaimed in anger.

"He got in the way," Mark answered. "So I killed him, just like I'll kill you." Anger boiled up in Sean, a sudden orange glow formed around his body.

"No.." Sean said under his breath. "He's not dead."

"I shot him in the head," Mark answered. "Why would you care? You don't even know what love is!" he continued. But Sean noticed a change in Mark's posture. Mark had backed away, and he had lowered the weapon.

"No!" Sean yelled. All around him, the ground shook and a wave of electricity struck Mark in the chest, causing him to fly into a nearby tree. Sean took that as a chance to get up and ran as far away as he could.

Mark recovered from the shock and looked around the general area. Sean had escaped, but the electricity that he was struck with knocked him out.

"Adam wasn't wrong," Mark thought to himself. "There's something special about that kid. I can't seem to put my finger on it." Mark whipped out his walkie-talkie and contacted his boss.

"Mark to Adam, come in Adam." Mark spoke into the walkie.

"This is Adam. Have you gotten him yet?" Adam asked.

"I had him in my sight. Something happened, and he escaped." Mark explained. "You were right. This hunt might be more challenging."

"What happened?"

"His body glowed orange, like something was waking," Mark continued. "It sent waves of electricity and threw me against a tree. When I recovered, the kid was gone."

"He is indeed special, Mark," Adam responded. "Instead of killing him, I need you to capture him and bring him back to headquarters. I'd like to see this kid for myself." Mark hesitated. Adam never asked him to bring the prey back to headquarters. They always killed them and burn their remains. Something didn't add up. It was like Adam was hiding something from him.

"Adam? What's going on?" Mark asked.

"Don't worry about it, just do your job and bring him back here, alive."
