Chapter Eight
Mark had a huge sigh of relief since he had been trying to win Sean's trust for the last little while. He'd changed his mind after seeing how his boss was actually planning to clone the poor guy. This time, Mark was determined to help his new friend escape. Leaving the room, he began making his way through the halls until he stumbled back and came across his friend Wade, who stepped in front of him, crossing his arms. Wade also had one of his eyebrows raised. His brown eyes stayed on Mark the minute they made eye contact.
"Hey Wade," Mark said, smiling. "What are you doing out of your quarters this late?"
"I could say the same for you." Wade answered. Keeping his voice monotone, Mark responded.
"I've just gone for a walk around headquarters." Wade narrowed his eyes as if Mark were keeping something from him. Mark kept still while Wade searched his face for anything that could point at something going wrong.
"I was heading for the kitchen," Mark answered plainly. "Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to get to my quarters. I've got a busy day tomorrow." Wade stepped aside, allowing for Mark to go through.
"Mark," Wade said. Mark stopped and turned to look at his friend. "I'd be careful out there if I were you. Someone might find out what you are really up to." Mark shook his head and left the minute that he had the chance. He arrived at his quarters and walked inside. Mark walked over to the bedroom where most of his stuff was packed, Ignoring Amy, Mark finished packing his bag. He threw on the bag just as Amy stepped in.

Mark turned and saw his girlfriend standing at the doorway with a concerned expression. He kept quiet, not willing to take his chances. Mark walked by Amy despite her protests.
"Your leaving?" Amy asked. "Mark, you do not know what you're doing. If you leave, Adam is going to have your head, or worse, your soul. They don't do well with traitors, and you know that."
"I don't care," Mark protested. "Everything that's happened, it's by chance," Mark said, hoping that it would get through to Amy. Especially since Amy was the one to suggest that he should help Sean. Ashley even stated their destinies were entwined. The only way he could figure it out would be to journey with a Kitsune. "This is my chance to understand what's going on. No one here even gets me."
"Bullshit Mark! That's complete bullshit! We're trained in this life, chosen to stop people that threaten our world!" Amy's voice grew high with each octave. "We weren't meant to join them!" Mark stood back, shocked. Amy gave off the thought that she would be supportive, but now she was going against everything that he said. Angered, Mark clenched his hands into fists like he was ready to blow, a sudden feeling of heat rose throughout his body, but he thought little about it until he let it all out.
"Bullshit?! You were the one who suggested I talked to Sean!" Mark exclaimed. This was their first fight, and it was something he didn't want to experience. There was nothing left for him at the organization. He never felt like he belonged in the facility. The only person who he believed made him feel like he belonged was Amy, and now he knew exactly which side she was on. Mark grabbed a bottle of water and walked out of the room carrying his backpack. Amy opened her mouth to say something, but Mark, yet again, ignored her. If he were to get to Sean as fast as he could, he had to use the cover of darkness to his advantage. Walking through the darkened halls, he stopped at a corner and listened to his surroundings. Even the slightest noise could send a message that there was someone in the hallway. Mark hadn't seen Wade or Adam, so he assumed that everyone else turned in for the night. Checking his watch, it passed the number ten, and he took off. Stepping out from the corner, he walked toward the cells, tapping the key code. The doors slid open with ease. Mark looked around the room until his eyes landed on Sean's blue eyes, piercing the darkness. Opening his bag, he pulled out his flashlight and flicked it on, shining it in the corner.
"Mark?" Sean said, holding out his hand. "What's with the light?"
