Chapter 6 ➼︎ Amy's Party!

[Author Note: I write about lobster Arcturus party because in the story that's what Amy does serve them in Goodwives. But she ruins the meal & Laurie teases her on it. Here I had her make the meal alright. And it turned out great! Enjoy!]

Chapter 6, Amy's Party!

Today was the day for Amy's going away party. Amy had Hannah helping her cook in the kitchen. She had went all the way into town to get lobster's. To make lobster brisk.

I wondered why everything had to be so fancy for Amy's friends. She was not going to see them again for a very long time. When Amy came back home with aunt March she was going to be a whole new person. I knew because Europe changed a person.

I began to help set the table. Jo fussed about outside setting up a fun May pole for dancing. Though I doubted these girls were going to want to do any amount of dancing.

I hoped that Laurie would get along with Jo today. And that Jo would get along with Laurie. I was a bit worried about how all that was going to work out for the party.

"Who made butterscotch muffins? These smell wonderful!" Amy exclaims.

"I thought you would like them for your party. Remember when I made them back in Europe?" I asked her.

She nods. "They smell divine" she brags on me. "thank you for this!"

"You are most welcome" I tell her with a hug.

"Can you help me make sure the table looks right?" Amy begs me. "Jo has no idea what she is doing she has no table manners" grumbles Amy. "she does not care what spoon to use with what"

"Certainly Amy" I agree.

I follow her outside. Then help out. Soon the ladies begin to arrive. Marmee greets the guest with Meg at the door. Amy waits for them outside.

In the back yard. John comes with some of his friends. Laurie comes with him. Jo keeps her distance from him. Jo looked like she wanted to greet Laurie. Say something but both of them held back.

•✿︎︎•

"I seated you beside John and Laurie. I could not sit him beside Jo" Amy whispers to me. 'I hope you do not mind" she tells me.

"I do not mind the lightest" I tell her.

She nods. Then she leads the girls in activities. They do some art work out where Amy planned on going in the back yard. I sit watching because I was not good at drawing. I had my poetry book with me. Laurie comes and sits beside me.

"These parties are dreadfully boring" he sighs.

"Shhh, Amy will hear you" I hush him.

"What are you working on? Art?" he wonders. "you write to? Another Jo in the family?"

"No, I am not another Jo. I am me. And I write. But I write poetry. Not silly stories" I mutter as I close my notebook.

"Let me see" he begs me as he tries to get my notebook.

"No some things are private" I mention. "or for someone close to read them. You are neither" I tease.

"Oh, I am hurt. I am not close? Or family?" he jokes. "Let me see just one poem"

He kept begging me. Jo curiously glances over at us. I flip through my notes. I find a book about the nature of boys. How they were a waist of woman's time. That would teach him a lesson for being nosey. I wrote this when I was mad at him the other day.

•✿︎︎•

"Boys are a waste of time?" he scoffs. He looks mortified.

"You wanted to read my work" I laugh as I grab my notes back from him.

"I am not a waste of your time" he softly retorts looking hurt.

"Are you not?" I challenge.

"No" he answers with a cheeky grin.

"Give me an example of how you are not?" I ask.

"These things take time. But I shall prove it to you" answers Laurie.

"Alright then" I giggle.

"Dinner is ready everyone! Please come eat with me" Amy calls out. "Please take your seats where your name tag reads at the seat" she mentions.

We all head to the dinner table. Jo stops me for a moment.

•✿︎︎•

"How is Teddy?" she whispers to me.

"He seems well" I say.

She nods then smiles. "I would talk to him. But I do not want to ruin Amy's party"

"Best to leave things as they are now" I agree with her. She nods.

"Another time another place" she sighs. "our dear boy will forgive me one day" she vows.

"Yes one day" I say with her.

We go sit down. Amy did wonderful with the dinner party. Aunt March would be so pleased with our Amy. Amy looked so happy joking and smiling with everyone.

Laurie hung back rather shyly. Jo kept stealing glances our way. I felt bad for both of them. I hoped one day they could be friends like they once were. Romance could ruin that between a people.

Before long the party was over with. Amy was seeing her guests out. I was sure going to miss Amy and Jo. I hung around Laurie. And John. I felt sad Amy was going back. I was staying here for my own new adventure.

•✿︎︎•

"What is wrong Fiona?" asks Laurie.

"I was thinking was all. How I came here to be with everyone. Get to know my family. And how my family all seems to be leaving me behind" I sigh.

"Do you want to go back with Amy and your aunt?" he asks me.

I shake my head. "I want to stay here. But I will sure miss Amy and Jo. Meg is married and living with John. That leaves me here alone" I add sadly.

He places an hand on my arm. "You are not alone" he softly answers. "I will visit you daily"

"You mean that?" I ask him. He nods then smiles.

"You are my new friend. I am always here for friends. And Meg is here she will need you being a new house wife" he points out.

"True" I laugh. "Meg is always coming home asking Hannah for tips on cooking things"

"See she needs you" adds Laurie. "I need you"

My heart soars hearing that.

"You do, do you?" I ask.

"I do. We need each other. We can be there for one another" he points out. "new friends"

"New friends" I say with a grin. My heart flutters inisde. He did not fancy me the way he did Jo. But we could be good friends.

•✿︎︎•

Before I knew it everyone was on their way home. And I was helping the girls clean up.

"Thank you all for helping me today" Amy says. "it was a grand success"

"Hear hear!" says Jo with a cheer.

"I shall miss my sisters and my cousin" adds Amy.

"Me to" Jo tells them. "But new adventures await us" says Jo.

"Yes, they sure do" says Amy.

"Write me often. I will miss you both" I declare. We hug.

"Was Teddy angered with me? Tell me the truth?" Jo whispers to me.

"He was hurting. But he is well" I tell her. She hugs me.

"Thank you for taking care of my dear boy" she sighs. "you two can look out for one another while we are away"

"We plan on that" I say to her. "we plan on that"

"You can come visit me when I am settled in New York.  You, Meg and Marmee" adds Jo.

"I would love to" I say. "I never have been to New York"

We chat and clean. I was going to miss this. It was going to be lonely without Jo and Amy there. But at least I had gotten to know them.

I never had gotten to know Beth. It was to bad. I had my aunt and uncle here to keep me company along with Laurie and Meg. It would be fine. Everything was going to be perfectly fine.
