W. D. Gaster
Our tale takes place sometime in the future and yet it shall be viewed as the past. I'd like to ask that all hands, legs and fins are kept inside the vehicle at all times; this is going to be a bumpy ride human.
The year was 201X and our protagonist W. D. Gaster was going about his usual business as Asgore's royal scientist. It was a difficult job but it was the job he loved, almost as much as he loved his own sons in fact. W. D. Gaster stood tapping his distal phalanges against a counter while watching another monster began to melt then turned to dust after being injected with determination. He sighed and scribbles down his findings, knowing that no matter what his son Sans would read these notes just as he reads all the others.
Experiment 127
Experiment 127 was no different from Experiment 18.
Im beginning to lose hope, perhaps we will never be able to stop this cycle.
I cant do this to Sans and Papyrus.
Im sorry boys. Sans please look after your brother for me.
Let him know I love you both and I always will.
W. D. Gaster
Gaster placed down his clipboard and rubs his hand over his skull as if wiping sweat from his non-existent face. Walking across the room while removing his lab coat he thought of all the failed experiments and why he was doing all this.
A small human. Chara, that was their name. One day Chara fell down Mt Ebott into that place where monsters like him were kept. They never spoke much but when they did what they said sent chills down his spine.
'12 left'
'I must cleanse this world'
'where are the knives'
'but nobody came'
'determination'
'you were never in control'
Sure that doesn't sound so bad but they said this all while their small fleshy hands were covered in dust, the remains of monsters. This human child was murdering all the monsters and every time they cleared out the underground they would reset the timeline causing everyone to forget about it, everyone except for Gaster that is. Chara continued to go through this everlasting loop forever plaguing Gaster with night terrors and the images of his loved ones dying again and again.
This triggered the first of the determination experiments in his quest to stop this horrific cycle. The experiment has partially worked three times yet only one of the subjects is aware of this.
Two of the experiments were his own sons which made him both proud and a little sad. At any given moment one of them could turn to dust for no reason at all and it would be his fault for cursing them like this. He would never forgive himself and he didn't expect Sans or Papyrus to forgive him either, a small part of him didn't want them to either.
The experiments were to inject monsters with determination, thus making them stronger and giving them the ability to reset instead of that ignorant human. Gaster truly wanted more than anything for the experiments to work, to end the seemingly endless loop of death but recently nothing was working and so he was going to take one last risk to fix it all or to forever seal the loop and trapping his friend and family.
Gaster made his exit from the lab and began to walk down the long empty corridor. As he approached his final stop in the lab he reaches for the door handle and pulls it open, being careful to create as little noise as possible. There is was. The determination tanks. There was no colour in this room other than a steady light blue glow coming from the tanks of determination.
Gaster crossed the room swiftly and picks up one of the needles filled with determination. He held the needle to his arm and injected the determination into his skeleton.
He felt an overwhelming power for just a moment and before he could grasp onto it he felt his skeleton begin to fuse together and become blackened. Not but seconds after he felt a drip and lifts his arm to see it is covered by a black dripping liquid yet his hands stay bones as they always were. He then saw some of the liquid begin to turn to dust causing him to panic a little and focus all his energy on staying alive.
He can't leave yet. How will his boys survive? Would the determination experiments continue? What will become of all his friends? Would Chara return? Would somebody worst come in place of Chara?
Gaster wanted to stay. He truly did but despite his best effort. He burst into a cloud of dust, being scattered across time and space.
Perhaps you've heard of him before. A passing rumour possibly. Or maybe whilst riding with the riverperson they've said, 'beware the man who speaks in hands'
