Sometimes, their screams still echo in my ears. I still have nightmares about that night. I know there's nothing I could have done, I had to hide with Branwen. But, sometimes, I wish I'd tried to protect them. Maybe if I had, they would still be here, but that's all in the past, and there's no going back. The sun hits my face, and I climb out of bed to get dressed. "Hi branwen sweetie! You ready to go play with the neighbor?" She babbles and giggles, and I take that as a yes. After changing her and getting her dressed, I take her outside and next door to our neighbor, Mr. Burton. "Thanks for agreeing to watch her today, sir." I say, as he gently takes her from me. "Well, it's about time you got a job and started providin' for yourself, kid." I nod slowly. "I'll be back to get her in a few hours." After giving him Branwens things for the day, I make my way to the forge. This is the first time in a year since I've not been with Branwen. I'm sure everything will be ok, I'm just being paranoid. He's a retired knight, he'll keep her safe.
