Off To The Slaughter
I woke up, the savage town had tied me up on a pole against the ground. I assumed they would burn me now or something equally morbid. I realized they had taken my flute, its red remains lying on the ground.
They had snapped it.
Destroyed it, crushing it, until all that was left was shards. My only friend, my only companion in this world, gone. I had nothing left if I hadn't the flute. It was my soul, my essence, and just like that, gone.
"Well, well, well lookie what we got here. The warlock has finally awoken."
"James, end me quickly it would be better than having to stare at your face," I stated.
He winded his leg back, then kicked me in the lungs. He kicked quite swiftly and powerfully. I began to see stars and my eyes became watery, but I would not shed a tear, even if just to keep my pride.
"Not so tough without your wee pipe? I bet when we eat you we would have our own magic."
"Let's play a game."
"As if."
"Well, then I'm going to play anyways. You come here and cut the rope attaching me to this pole."
"That doesn't sound much like a game."
"Oh, but you didn't let me finish, then I beat you with the pole until you're dead. Just like poor Jonathan."
How dare you bring him up? You know it was cruel what you did! He may not have been the brightest but he was family he was me own brother." He roared.
"Life's not fair, get over it."
He just smirked at me, then said something I wasn't able to catch. Next thing I knew, I was being picked up. I saw a bonfire had been made. So I was to burn to death, to be slowly roasted until I was dead and they could eat me as if I were pigs' fat.
They were prepared to throw me to the fire. I felt regret as I had done practically nothing my entire life. All I had done was drink and raid villages, perhaps kill a couple of men here or there. They threw me in.
I felt an intense smoldering pain running through my body. It was scorching hot, it felt as if I was one with the sun, yet it felt cold my very skin was numbing. I would not cry despite the immense pain I was under. Why did life deal me this cruel hand? Fate was truly a cheating, atrocious, swine.
I closed my eyes and let the darkness surround me.
After I had died and had been feasted upon, the town of Hamelin spread lies of me. They said that I took all their children, they would tell I had told the "rats" to kill them. And so on, spreading lies about me, the Pied Piper. And I want you to remember this that way you don't suffer the same fate as me: A man who does no good will get no good.
