There I was, at the age of 20, lonely and at a pub. I was living the life I had always dreamed of, I had gold, power and I was drunk—very, very drunk.

"Barkeep, another," I said.

"Another of what?"

"Doesn't matter what it is as long as I can get drunk off it."

You see, I had a simple philosophy: "You're happier the drunker you are."

My barkeep gave me another of whatever I was having. I felt happy, but I still felt a gnawing sensation in my heart; I was missing something. Ah, yes, I know what I was missing, I was missing more gold! Yes, of course, for money and drinks are all I need. It just so happened lady fate was on my side. A man of sorts, he was bald and fat, he looked like he had money. He began to scream about wretched things and his woe. After the barkeep calmed him down, he apologized for his "rude" behavior.

He then began to tell a tale about the town of Hamelin and how it was plagued. He told all in the pub that foul swarms of rats invaded Hamelin and was making all ill. He asked for a hero, a brave soul who would and could rid his poor town of its plight. I wasn't very interested in helping him.

"And whoever does this great favor shall be paid handsomely by me and my town."

Ah, now he was talking. But I was also immensely content drinking. On the other hand, I could earn a large sum of money. I didn't know what to do so I pulled out a coin. If it lands on heads, I'll help, and if it landed on tails I'll stay and drink. I flipped my coin. Heads, looks like the town found itself a savior. I pulled out a pouch of gold, grabbed three or so bits of gold and smacked them on the table, telling the barkeep that I was paying.

"I will."
