Chapter 26~ The Savior and The Runaway Bride
3rd person pov:
The TARDIS materialized in the power estate, no people around. Rose (who've changed back into jeans and pink and gray jacket) and the Doctor stepped out, the door closing behind them. The Doctor leaned against the door folding his arms on his chest as Rose spoke «How long have I been gone?»
«About 12 hours.» he replayed. They laughed. It was still difficult for Rose thinking she wasn't dreaming, and the things she've seen were true.
«Oooh! Right, I won't be long, I'm just gonna see my mum.» she told him.
In that moment Melody popped out: she've changed into a white blouse, longer behind, and comfy skinny blue jeans, with white converse on her feet.
«What're you going to tell her?» she asked Rose, her hands in her jacket pockets.
«I don't know! I've been to the year 5 billion... and only been gone, what, 12 hours?»
The Doctor and Melody gave something between a laugh and a snort.
«No, I'll just tell her I've spent the night at Shareens. See you later!» Rose said, and tried to spin around and walk off but Melody coughed her arm causing Rose to face her again.
«Actually... I'm going to leave for a bit.» she told Rose, not wanting at any cost to look at the Doctor. She didn't want to see him frustrated or disappointed. So, being the coward she was, she decided not to take the risk.
Instead she watched Rose's face falling. «What?!» she blinked rapidly in confusion.
Melody regretted her hand and let out a sight «I need to leave for a bit... Need to care of some...» she gazed at the Doctor from the corner of her eye, unnoticed by him, even though he was looking down at her for the hole time. «...being made.» she said, looking back at Rose.
Rose nodded, understanding that it was better not to ask other questions. Especially when the Doctor was nearby. She then enveloped Melody in a hug.
«Be. careful.» she said firmly, her voice huffed in Melody's shoulder.
Melody laughed, hugging back «Yes, ma'am.»
«And please please please come back soon.» Rose said, squeezing Melody hard and rocking her left to right.
Melody let out a chuckle «I'll see what I can do.» she said. Her eyes flicked up on the Doctor. He was smiling from the corner of his lips, watching the two girls.
«But wait.» Rose suddenly pulled back to look at Melody «I will see you again, right?» she asked, frowning. Almost threateningly.
«Of course! No way I'm going to leave you.» she told Rose. Then looked up at the Doctor, next to her «Or you.» she said smiling. He smiled.
Rose let out a chuckle. As Melody looked back at her, silence fell in between the trio, they all exchanging smiles.
«Right, then Rose Taylor.» Melody said, gazing on the floor and back at Rose, swinging slightly back and forth on her heels, hands I her pockets. «Jackie awaits.»
Rose looked back at the building and back at her friend. «Yes, I guess... Please be safe, Mel.» she said, hugging her again.
«Surely will.»
With that Rose gave her a kiss on the temple, then spun around and walked off. Only to turn back again.
«Oh, don't you disappear.» She told the Doctor.
Melody let out a chuckle, her arms now crossed on her chest. «As if he would.» she told Rose, causing her to laugh. She then ran off in the direction of the flats.
Melody spun around, founding herself standing in front of the Doctor, he looking at her, their chests almost touching.
«Need a right?» he asked, innocently.
«Well...» Melody gazed around «Yeah, 12 years back into the past, could ya?» she asked.
That caused him to frown. «12 years?»
Melody, not saying a word, walked across the yard and to a lamppost. She ripped off a poster and walked back in her spot in front of the Doctor.
She then showed it to him, handing it in front of his face so he would see.
On the poster he read the writing "Can You Help?" With a photograph of Rose below.
He took it from Melody's hands his brows frowned as he studied the poster. She crossed her arms on her chest again.
«Ops.» he managed to say, eventually.
Melody scoffed a little «You can say.»
He dropped the poster down, looking up at the flats behind Melody.
«I'd have to deal with this... later. But first...» he opened the door of the TARDIS «Let's get you 12 years ago, shall we?» he asked, holding the door open for her.
Melody narrowed her eyes suspiciously, studying the mad mans' face «Why are you being so nice to me?» she inquired.
It took him a moment of confusion but then he shrugged «Does it need to have a reason?»
The suspicious look on Melodys' face didn't disappear «You are the Doctor, everything has to have a reason.»
«Tell you what, it doesn't.» he said. He then grinned at her and soaked in. She watched after him suspiciously. But then just shrugged and let out a chuckle.
She then entered the TARDIS and shut the door behind.
As she turned around, the Doctor was working on the console. «Where to, Mel?» he asked. And again Melody ignored the nickname. She instead leant on the railings with her hands, supporting her body on it.
«Earth, 12 years ago, 5 minutes before you knocked on the door of my friend's flat.» she told him. She expected him to tell her something like 'and how should I know at what time we've met' or 'How should I remember the house' but instead what he said was «Here we go!»
He then pulled the lever and the TARDIS shook. As it stopped, Melody grabbed her black jacket which was hanging carefully on the railing, and started walking towards the door.
As she exited, she found herself on the same field the 11th Doctor left her that day.
The weather was still the same: cloudy with a cool breeze. It caused her to shudder.
The Doctor followed as Melody stepped out. «Ah, look at the weather. Fantastic, is it? Oh, and here it goes again. Can't get rid of it. Rolls on my tongue every time. All your fault, young lady.» he said pointing an accusing finger at her, as she put her jacket on.
«In my defense, fantastic does sounds pretty fantastic.» she told him, fixing my jacket. The Doctor smiled his eyes eying the field, his hands in his pockets again. He then looked back at her.
She let out a sight «Well, then! I'd be off.» she said smiling.
«Why exactly did you want to come back at this time?» The Doctor inquired, his brows frowned in confusion and curiosity.
«Oh, I forgot something at my friends' house. Something important.» Melody replayed.
He raised a brow «Very important?»
«A big amount of very.» she agreed, nodding.
He nodded, looking at the ground as he was thinking.
«And couldn't you do it 12 years in the future?» he inquired.
«Nope. Otherwise I would've had to do all the explanation, as to where have I been for the 12 years and why do I still look so young. And, even if I would've told her, I really don't think she would've believed me.» Melody answered. That caused The Doctor to chuckle, as he looked around, his arms now crossed on his chest.
Melody smiled watching him. She would've missed him. She wasn't sure if she would've ever seen him In this regeneration again, but she certainly knew it would've happened. Perhaps further for him.
As he looked back at her, a comfortable silence fell in between them. The only thing hearable was the singing of some birds and the wind whooshing.
The two watched each other with smiles on their faces, his arms folded on his chest, her in her jacket pockets.
«You look after yourself, okay?» he eventually asked.
She let out a chuckle, because she knew nothing would've happened to her «Oh, I'll probably be good.» she assured.
He still had a quite concern expression on his face, though he smiled slightly.
That caused Melody to smile, thankfully. «You too. And be nice to Rose.» she added, pointing her index at him.
He raised his shoulders slightly, in surrender «Can't promise you anything.» he told her. She chuckled at that.
He smiled too. Maybe because he liked it when she laughed because of him. But oh, who knows, he's the Doctor after all.
Then Melody looked back at him and, what she did next, was wrapping her hands around his waist and, pressing her head to his chest, enveloping him into a hug.
He winced in surprise at first but then hugged back, his arms wrapping around Melody's body and squeezing her to him. He rested his chin on her shoulder.
«Be careful you big leather-jacket-wearing fellow.» she mumbled into his chest.
He let out a chuckle. «Still not promising.»
She joined the chuckle. They then collapsed into the silence again. But it wasn't uncomfortable, all other. They just stood there hugging.
Melody then pulled back and, standing on her tip toes, placed a kiss on his cheek. «See you later, Docky.» she saluted, and turning on her heels started walking away.
He chuckled, his hands back in his pockets. «Later Melly!» he teased grinning.
«Can't hear you!» she called in sing-a-song voice, as she continued walking.
«Yeah, sure, like I'll believe you!»
She turned around, still walking backwards «Sorry, did you say something?» she mocked.
He scowled «Mature are we?»
She grinned «Never!» with that she turned around and, laughing, walked off. The Doctor watched her for a moment as she walked away, a wide grin on his face. When he finally turned around, ready to leave in the TARDIS, he let out another chuckle.
«That girl.» he said grinning, then entered in the TARDIS shutting the door behind. It then dematerialized.

Lizzie's pov:
I walked back to Molly's house and was very relived that she hadn't came home yet. I was also relieved I didn't meet myself and the Doctor when he knocked on the door. That would've been an interesting talk.
I took the key from under a vase in her garden and opened the door. I was lucky that she never listened to me when I told her to change the hideout.
I found my bag almost straight away, checking for the pocket watch. It was there. I took it out and put it the pocket of my jacket.
I decided to keep it there from now on.
I then put the Bag on my shoulder and was about to walk out when the mess caused by the Doctor caught my eye. I checked for the time: 12.30 am. It've passed around an hour since Molly left.
So, having time, I decided to clean up the mess. It took me around 30 minutes, to put everything back on its place. As I finished I took my bag again and walked to the front door. I let out a sight, standing in the hallway and observing the walls. This was probably the last time I would've visit this place.
It did sadden me a little. I had some good memories here. With Sherlock and John... I would've missed them, yes. Though I never was going to stay here.
My life was in the TARDIS, with the Doctor, traveling through time and space. That thought made me really secure of myself and, smiling fondly, I shut the door. I put the keys back, beneath the vase and walked off down the street.
I walked down it, my hands in my pockets, my bag on my shoulder. I played with the watch which was inside the right pocket, as I walked and walked. Suddenly a thought popped into my mind: where was I walking to? That caused me to stop.
I didn't have a house, or any friends here. There was nowhere I could go, I had no one. The Doctor, in a way, was my only family. Friend or
whatever the hell he was.
I looked around: people where rushing past me, everyone impatient to reach their destination. No one even bothered to notice me. They didn't bother to look at each other and, even when someone caught someone else's gaze, he would've looked away immediately.
Everyone thinking about theirselves, not bothering about the others.
And this is the mankind, ladies and gentlemen. Each one of us are nothing other than a big, selfish... thing.
«Better than a human trampoline.» a voice in my mind said. I chuckled. Yeah, I couldn't disagree.
I looked around, spotted a bench and decided to walk to it. I sat down, resting my head on my hands which I rested on my forelegs.
I let out a sight, thinking for a plan to survive. What was I going to do? I had no where I could go.
How would I even survive the night?
And I was getting hungry, Brilliant! I suppose I could robe a bank. Or a restaurant... Nah, I mentally shrugged.
I then shivered, the cool breeze beating on my shoulders. I shifted in the jacket, my bag next to me.
Oh, I would've gave everything to be in the TARDIS at this moment. Sitting in the comfy jump seat or just standing. I didn't really care I just wanted to be there with the Doctor.
Feeling the so familiar place around me, the melodic humming of the TARDIS's mechanism, the Doctor joking and teasing me...
I would've gave everything. Everything just not to feel so alone sitting on this cold bench and felling so - hot? What?! I suddenly felt my body heating up. It heated up and heated up and I suddenly felt like it was about to explode.
I went to take off my jacket only then to notice that my hands glowed gold. I stared at them wide eyes, my hands starting shaking. I never saw something like that.
Suddenly I felt a weird feeling in my stomach. Like if someone took me off ground and lifted me in the air very quickly. That caused me to let a scream. Suddenly all around me became gold. My heart was pounding so fast in my chest, I was scared it would've jumped out. My breath became heavy as I looked around in panic.
What was happening?!
Suddenly my feet hit something metallic. My vision slowly started to become clearer as I started down at my feet. I raised my eyes only to see that I wasn't sitting on the bench anymore. I was in the TARDIS.
I spotted someone else, standing next to the console. He wore his always brown suite, white converse and a red tie, looking down at the console, pressing some buttons.
«Doctor?» I asked, my voice unsure my eyes wide.
He spun his head around. His eyes widened but never as much as mine widened.
«Doctor??» I asked again, this time more confident.
«Melody??» He stared back. He then glanced at someone behind the console and back at me «What??» he asked aghast.
I followed his gaze only to see, no other than Donna Nobel. In a wedding dress.
«What??» this time I asked aghast.
Donna spun around to face him with a yelp. «Who are you?» she demanded gazing in through him and me.
The Doctor looked back at me dumbfounded «But...»
«What!?» I asked stared down at my hands. How the hell did I get in the TARDIS?! Was that even possible?!
«Where am I?» Donna demanded.
«What??» he said confused, me looking up wide eyes, frowning.
«What the hell is this place?» Donna raised her voice.
«What??!» the Doctor and I asked in sync.
He looked around for some explanation, bewildered «You can't do that, I wasn't... we're in flight! That is... that is physically impossible!»
I looked back down at my hands, checking if they were glowing again, mumbling under my nose «How did...??»
«Tell me where I am. I demand you tell me right now, where am I?» Donna demanded, commandingly.
The Doctor stared at her.
«Inside the TARDIS.» he told her.
«The what?»
«The TARDIS.»
«The what?»
«The TARDIS!» He turned to the controls.
I finally looked up.
«The what??» Donna asked again.
«It's called the TARDIS.» I breathed out, still fazed, my look lost in nothingness.
Suddenly something came to my mind. Shoot! I forgot my bag on the bench!
I felt my pockets to check if the watch was still there and was relived when I found out it was.
The bag didn't bother me that much. I had nothing of important there, all my old stuff was in my room in the TARDIS of Mr Bow Tie.
«That's not even a proper word. You're just saying things.» Donna said angrily.
«How did you get in here?» The Doctor asked, gazing first at her then at me.
I opened my mouth to retort something only to be cut off «Well, obviously, when you kidnapped me. Who was it? Who's paying you? Is it Nerys? Oh, my God, she's finally got me back. This has got Nerys written all over it.» Donna snapped, rigid with rage.
The Doctor watched her rant, looking her up and down with utter confusion.
«Who the hell is Nerys?» I inquired.
«Your best friend.» Donna snapped.
«Hold on, wait a minute... what're you dressed like that for?» the Doctor asked her.
«I'm going ten pin bowling.» she yelled «Why do you think, Dumbo? I was halfway up the aisle!»
Her behavior, plus the shock of being suddenly in the TARDIS, caused me to remain partly stunned.
The Doctor meanwhile began to fiddle with the controls whilst Donna walked around, ranting.
I was still standing in my spot.
«I've been waiting all my life for this. I was just seconds away! And then you... I dunno, you drugged me or something!» Donna yelled.
«He haven't done anything!» I went defensive.
«Yeah, like she said!» he agreed, working on the panel.
«We're having the police on you! Both of you! Me and my husband, as soon as he is my husband, we're gonna sue the living backside off ya!» she shouted.
The Doctor didn't reply, engrossed in operating the controls. I frowned looking at him.
Something was wrong. Something happened. He wasn't that silent usual, and his way of doing was all rigid. Almost... Bitter again.
I looked back at Donna only to see her eyes flicking towards the door. She suddenly rushed over to them. My eyes widened as I remembered that the Doctor said we were still in flight.
«No, wait a minute! Wait a minute!» I hurried after her.
«Don't! Careful Mel!» the Doctor hurried behind me. I didn't stop, running behind Donna, but too late. She already threw open the doors and was now looking upon the super nova. Her mouth fell open slightly.
I stopped next to her, the Doctor stopping behind me.
«You're in space.» he told her. I rolled my eyes a bit: yeah, cause she couldn't see that. «Outer Space. This is my...»
«...space-ship.» I told at his place. I could feel him nodding in agreement. «It's called the TARDIS.» I added.
«How am I breathing?» Donna inquired stunned. I didn't blame her! The panorama was beautiful.
«The TARDIS is protecting us.» he explained.
Donna looked out in awe «Who are you?» she asked.
«I'm the Doctor.»
«I'm Melody.»
«You?» we asked in sync, looking at her.
«Donna.»
I looked her up and down, and I bet so did the Doctor «Human?» he then inquired.
She scowled «Yeah. Is that optional?»
«It is for him.» I told, looking out again.
Donna glanced around at us, but there was not much room for more surprise.
«You're aliens.» she said, stunned.
«Yeah. I mean-.»
«Not me. Human from feet to head.» I said at his place, grinning.
She eyed me for a moment, the three of us standing in the awkward silence.
When Donna returned her gaze back out I glanced at the Doctor, who looked just as dumbfounded as I did. He shrugged. I shrugged back. After a moment, she eventually spoke «It's freezing with these doors open.»
So the Doctor slammed the doors then darted back to the console.
«But I don't understand it and I understand everything! This... this can't happen!» he said, me following him to the console, and jumping on the jump seat, then staring at the floor deep in thoughts «There is no way a Human Being can lock itself onto the TARDIS and transport itself inside. It must be...» he continued.
Suddenly he was all energy: he grabbed an ophthalmoscope and ran to Donna. He used it to look into Donna's eyes, all the while muttering an endless flow of techno-babble. Donna was stuck silent with confusion.
I could feel her glancing up at me sometimes, but I was too lost in thoughts to look back.
He started talking nonstop, turning around frequently to get my confirmation, me just nodding in replay or giving him a 'could be' shrug, but «Impossible. Some sort of subatomic connection? Something in the temporal field? Maybe something pulling you into alignment with the Chronon shell. Maybe something macro mining your DNA within the interior matrix. Maybe a genetic-» he was side let cut off by Donna slapping him, his face turning around from the straight she hit him with.
For a second, the room drowned in complete silence, me staring at them in pure shock. I wasn't expecting that, especially not from Donna.
The Doctor looked up at her indignantly «What was that for??» he asked.
«Get me to the church!» Donna yelled.
At this point I jumped down from the jump seat and, with just one step, stood in between them, growling at Donna slightly, giving her the deadliest glare.
«Back off.» I hissed, clenching my fists tightly. She remained quite stunned by this, and believe me I was quite too. But I couldn't watch the Doctor being hurt in front of me. I glared at her for a long minute. Then spun my head around to look at him.
«Doctor, could you get her back to the church? Please?» I said as sweetly and calmly as possible. It took him a moment as he was still staring down at me, clearly taken aback by my sudden behavior.
«Yeah, like she said.» Donna agreed, her voice sounding a bit unsure.
He blinked rapidly, glancing back and forth between me and Donna.
«Um... Right! Fine! I don't want you here anyway!» he told looking at her, dropping his instruments and going back to the controls.
«Where is this wedding?» I inquired, following him.
«Saint Mary's, Hayden Road, Chiswick, London, England, Earth, the Solar System.» she said walking around the console. I nodded and looked down at what the Doctor was typing.
I suddenly heard her fast and furious steps and I looked up just as she snatched up a lightly blue blouse. Probably Rose's... Suddenly something clicked in my mind.
Oh my god, perhaps the accident from my vision as a child of Rose fall into into a vortex just happened to him! He just lost her! He just lost Rose Taylor!
Donna pointed it in our direction, accusingly «I knew it. Acting all innocent.»
She strode over to the Doctor and showed him the blouse. «I'm not the first, am I? How many women have you abducted?»
The Doctor looked up from the controls and his eyes fell to the garment in Donna's hands. His face fell.
«That's... my friend's.» he said quietly.
«Where is she, then? Popped out for a space walk?» Donna asked sarcastically.
I decided it was the moment to step in «Donna.» I called, pleadingly.
«She's gone.» he replayed quietly.
«Gone where?»
«Donna.» I repeated, trying to sound firm, but failing. My voice was again pleading, begging her to stop, because I could feel the Doctor's pain. My heart squeezed, suddenly, with no motive to.
«I lost her.» he answered after a moment. I suddenly so much wanted to pull him in an embrace, or just place my hand on top of his and rub it with my thumb, telling him everything was going to be fine. But I couldn't.
Because I didn't know if it would've been. And I didn't comfort him because I knew he didn't want that. I could feel when he wanted company and wanted to be comforted, and when he wanted to be left alone. And this was one of those moments.
«Well, you can hurry up and lose me.» Donna said, infuriated.
«Donna...» I attempted one last time.
«What?!» she exclaimed angry, her eyes finally flickered in my direction.
I looked at her, sadness across my face. She probably noticed the vulnerability in my eyes, my relaxed jaw, my shushed tone of voice begging to stop because she was hurting me.
Literally.
Every time she would say something my heart squeezed in pain. And, I could bet that the Doctor felt the same way.
She suddenly seemed to realise this was a sensitive topic. «How do you mean, "lost"?» she inquired, her eyes flickering in between the two of us.
The Doctor looked up at her darkly and advanced; for a moment, Donna looked fearful but he only snatched Rose's blouse away from her. He made towards the doors.
I caught Donna's gaze and send her a sheepish smile. She almost returned it. Almost.
I then spun around and walked around the console, my pace quick. I stepped in front of him, blocking him from going any further.
He glanced down at me, slightly confused. I held out my hand for him. His eyes flickered down at it.
I sent him a Give me that look. He understood that. He watched the blouse in his hands for a second, deciding whether he should've gave it to me or not. Eventually he slowly handed it to me. I took it, looking up at him.
I gave him a Good job nod, smiling a little, encouragingly. He just pursed his lips in a forced smile as a response, his eyes still on the blouse in my hands.
It lasted for a long second until he finally unfazed «Right! Chiswick.» he said, making his way back to the console.
As he left, passing by me, I still stood there, facing the TARDIS doors.
I looked down at the blouse in my hands, my fingers rubbing the soft material. Suddenly I frowned.
I unfolded the blouse and looked at it, holding it in front of me. It was white at the top and faded in blue-sky at the bottom. But what made me frown was that, this wasn't Rose's size.
I remember helping Rose picking up a dress and I am sure this was like 3 sizes smaller. It was for someone very skinny. Even skinnier than me.
I looked up at the Doctor only to see him working on the console, looking down at it.
I watched him, my eyebrows frowned. Did he loose someone else? Was there someone else with him at the vortex? The questions were rolling in my mind, all over it.
I opened my mouth to ask him something when, suddenly, the TARDIS shook violently, sending Donna flying back on the jump seat and the Doctor and I on the floor. I hit my head hard.
When the TARDIS stopped its shaking, which took a good ten minutes, I tried to get up, my head hurting really much. «What the hell was that?!» Donna yelled, causing the aching to multiply.
I rubbed my back, panting as I sat up. What was I about to ask? I couldn't remember.
«...Oh, nothing.» the Doctor jumped up on his feet. He then checked something on the console.
He looked up at Donna «We're here.» he told her with a nod. Donna didn't make it repeat to herself: she jumped on her feet and, holding her dress high, ran to the doors and past me.
I stared at her as she ran past me, still panting, sitting on the floor. Yeah, thanks a lot Donna. I glared at her.
Eventually I got up and slowly, massaging the back of my head, walked to the console.
3rd person pov:
Donna alighted from the TARDIS, the right time, the right planet, but unfamiliar surroundings.
«I said: Saint Mary's. What sort of Martian are you? Where's this?» Donna questioned the duo who was still in the box.
The Doctor looked up at the console frowning. «Something's wrong with her...» he then said. Melody held her hand out and stroked her gently.
Donna rolled her eyes.
«It's like she's...» he was saying.
Suddenly Melody's face lit up and she looked at him «...recalibrating!» she told him.
He stared at her, a wide smile then spearing across his face «Oh, Brilliant Mel!» he exclaimed, rushing at the other side of the console.
«She's digesting.» he said, while pushing some buttons.
Donna was standing outside with her mouth open. She finally noticed what she stepped out of and how small it was in comparison to its interior.
«What have you eaten?» he asked Donna, one hand on the rotor. Melody, who was walking back to the console, turned around to look at Donna concerned and curious.
«What's wrong?» she asked Donna, frowning.
«Donna? You've really gotta think. Is there anything that might've caused this?» the Doctor called.
Donna wasn't listening, she was pacing around the outside of the TARDIS, feeling the walls in utter bewilderment. Melody watched her curiously and in slight amusement.
«Anything you might've done? Any sort of alien contacts? I can't let you go wandering off in case you're dangerous. I mean, have you... have you seen lights in the sky? Or... did you touch something? Something... something different? Something strange? Something made out of a sort of metal or... who're you getting married to?» the Doctor continued firing questions from inside.
All the while, Donna completed her circuit of the TARDIS and popped her head back inside, as if to check whether she wasn't just imagining how big it was. She coughed Melody's gaze in the process, who was standing arms folded on her chest. Donna stared at her bemused, expecting Melody to be at list slightly shocked.
Instead she grinned at her.
Donna suddenly stumbled backwards, hands over her mouth. Melody's grin dropped and she frowned in concern.
«Are you sure he's human? He's not a bit overweight with a zip around his forehead, is he?» meanwhile the Doctor was saying.
Suddenly Donna ran off.
Melody's eyes widened «Donna!» she shouted, and sprained behind her.
The Doctor looked up in concern as he heard Melody's voice, only to see her running out of the TARDIS and behind Donna.
His eyes widened in fear «Melody!» with that, not ever thing twice, he threw himself behind her.
Melody already reached Donna and was standing next to her when he fell into step beside her.
«Melody.» he said breathless, placing a hand on her shoulder.
«Donna.» the girl instead said looking Donna.
«Leave me alone. I just want to get married.» she told them. Melody instantly regretted her hand dropping it at her side.
«Come back to the TARDIS.» he told her meekly, his hand still on Melody's shoulder.
«No way.» Donna cut off straight away «That box is too... weird.»
The Doctor's and Melody's eyes flickered at each other, then back at Donna «It's... bigger on the inside.» he said.
«Yeah, that's all.» Melody added with a slight shrug.
«Oh!» Donna exclaimed «That's all?» She sighed exaggeratedly and checked her watch. Her eyes suddenly became blurry and she tried to suppress the tears.
«Ten past three. I'm gonna miss it.»
«You can phone them. Tell them where you are.» the Doctor suggested, Melody nodding in agreement.
«How do I do that?» Donna inquired sarcastically.
«Haven't you got a mobile?» he questioned.
Donna stopped and stared at him.
«I'm in my wedding dress. It doesn't have pockets. Who has pockets? Have you ever seen a bride with pockets? When I went to my fitting, do you think I said "Alison, the one thing I forgot to say is give me pockets"?!» Donna exclaimed, a high pitch of sarcasm in her voice.
Melody, who was standing closer to her, jumped back slightly. But she relaxed as the Doctor put his other hand on her other shoulder and pressed her back on his chest, protectively.
«...This man you're marrying, what's his name?» he then asked Donna, his hands on both sides of Melody's shoulders squeezing them meekly.
«Lance.» Donna said, suddenly all loved-up and looking into distance.
«Gotta like Lance.» The Doctor said in Melody's ear, his voice lower, so Donna wouldn't hear him. Melody chuckled silently covering her smile with her hand. The Doctor smiled at that still resting slightly away from her ear. They didn't expect though that Donna heard them.
She spun to look at them and, changing manner, now with terrifying abruptness, shouted «Oi! No stupid Martian and his stupid-show-off-girl is gonna stop me from getting married.-» she started but was cut off by the Doctor who, pushing Melody behind himself and standing in front of her protectively, clenched his jaw looking Donna straight in the eyes.
«You may offend me in every way you want, but don't you dare offend her. Ever again.» he hissed slowly, through clenched teeth, throwing Donna a dead glare, that instinct he had when he was near Melody and near... her... present again.
How brilliant, now her name would've been in the list of the names he wouldn't pronounce and the ones he lost...
Donna hesitated for a moment, eyeing the angry Time Lord. She gulped blinking a couple of times, shifting uncomfortably. Meanwhile Melody was staring at them surprised.
She wasn't expecting him to act like this... Not that she didn't like it, contrarily it made her blush like a madman and grin like a Cheshire Cat.
Donna, her courage eventually returning, rolled her eyes «Oh, to hell with you two!» she exclaimed. With that she ran off.
The two stared behind her, the Doctor relaxing slowly.
«Wait, he's not...» he suddenly heard by his side and looked down at Melody who was still looking behind Donna. She let out an exasperated sight, causing the Doctor to feel suddenly a slight concern for her.
«He's not... He's not from Mars.» she muttered, feebly.
The Doctor chuckled. Melody joined in soon.
When the laughs started slowly fading replaced by smiles, Melody slipped her hand entwining it with the Doctor's. He looked down at her.
She looked up at him too and smiled. He looked at her smile for a long second, eventually smiling and squeezing her hand, thankfully.
They then looked back at the direction Donna ran off to, and sprained off running after her, hand in hand.
They ran onto a busy street, scanning their eyes over the people, looking for Donna. They sone spotted her running down a walkway, shouting «Taxi!» The taxi ignore her.
The Doctor and Melody joined her.
«Why's his light on??» Donna asked.
«There's another one!» The Doctor pointed, and left Melody's hand running off trying to catch it.
«Taxi!» the two girls shout contemporarily.
They stumbled into the road in their effort to catch the driver's attention, but again, it just drove straight past.
«Oi!» Donna shouted.
«There's one!» Melody pointed. The Doctor ran, waving for attention. And again, it ignored them.
«Oi!» Donna shouted again.
«Do you have this effect on everyone? Why aren't they stopping?» he asked her.
«They think I'm in fancy dress.» she explains.
Another taxi drove past, the driver hooting his horn. «Stay off the scotch darlin'!» the driver shouted.
«They think I'm drunk.» Donna said throwing her hands in the air, in exasperation.
«You're fooling no-one, mate!» Two guys in their car yelled out of the window as they drove past.
«They think I'm in drag!» she added, desperately.
The Doctor looked Donna up and down appraisingly. He then looked at Melody, involuntarily wearing a desperate look on his face.
She pursed her lips, thinking. The second later she popped her fingers, looking up at him. «I have an idea.» she said. With that she put her fingers between her lips and whistled, long and piercing, causing Donna to wince and cover her ears.
However, it attracted the attention of a taxi, which grand to a halt before them. The Doctor looked at Melody, surprised.
She looked up at him only to notice the dumfounded look he was giving her. «What?!» she asked defensive, blushing slightly as she returned her look at the cab.
«Stop chip-chapping and climb in!» was what Donna said instead.
The Doctor and Melody rolled their eyes but followed. The trio clambered in the back seat, Donna in the middle, the Doctor at the right and Melody at the left.
«Saint Mary's in Chiswick, just off Hayden Road. It's an emergency, I'm getting married! Just... hurry up!» she instructed the driver.
«You know it'll cost you, sweetheart? Double rates today.»
«Oh, my God!» Donna remembered. She looked at The Doctor and at Melody. «Have you got any money?» she asked.
«Um...»
«No.» Melody said for him.
«And you?» he asked.
She gestured her dress violently «Pockets!» she reminded.
The taxi screeched to a halt and they were out. The Doctor slammed the door.
«And that goes double for your mother!» Donna yelled at the driver who drove off.
«I'll have him. I've got his number. I'll have him. Talk about the Christmas Spirit.» Donna said.
The Doctor looked around, vaguely surprised.
«Christmas?» Melody asked, like reading his thoughts.
«Well, duh. Maybe not on Mars, but here it's Christmas Eve.»
Melody rolled her eyes at Donnas statement, exasperatedly. «He's from Mars.»
The Doctor chuckled behind her.
Suddenly Donna hit him, having spotted something in the distance. «Phone box!» she exclaimed.
They rushed towards it.
«We can reverse the charges!» Donna proposed.
«How come you're getting married on Christmas Eve?» Melody asked.
«Can't bear it. I hate Christmas. Honeymoon in Morocco. Sunshine, lovely.» she replayed, causing Melody to roll her eyes again but chuckle.
They reached the phone box, the Doctor held the door open for Donna, Melody stood next to him.
«What's the operator? I've not done this in years. What do you dial? 100?» Donna questioned them.
The Doctor got out his sonic and applied to the phone «Just... just call the direct.» he told Donna.
The dial tone buzzed on the end of the receiver.
«What did you do?» Donna demanded.
Melody, seeing the Doctor looking around distracted, answered for him. «Something Martian.» she said. «Now, phone.»
«I'll get money! Mel, stay here with her!» the Doctor told her and sprinted to the nearest cash machine. Melody sighed in exasperation: the nickname! Ugh.
She then looked back at Donna who was still in the phone box «Ohh, answer the phone!» Donna said patiently, pouncing the numbers out.
She began leaving a message for her mum «Mum, get off the phone and listen. I'm in...» she looked around. Her eyes fell on Melody, hope in them. But the girl Just shrugged. Donna rolled her eyes «Thanks a lot! Oh, my God. I dunno where I am! It's... it's a street. And there's WH Smith... but it's definitely Earth.» she assured her mother.
Lester Donna left the phone box, out of breath.
Melody stared at her, not really knowing what to do. Donna suddenly walked to a random woman on the street approaching her.
«Excuse me... I'm begging you. I'm getting married, I really am and I'm late and I just need to borrow a tenner and I'll pay you back I promise and it's Christmas.» she begged.
Meanwhile the Doctor, who was taking the cash, looked up only to catch with his look a row of masked Santa's playing trumpets a short distance away. He watched them, remembering his last encounter with similar Santa's, suspicions aroused.
«Taxi!»
«Donna!» Melody was running behind Donna back next to the phone box. «Let's wait for the Doctor, he'll know what to do!» she tried to convince Donna.
«Ha ha no way I'm waiting. If I'll wait any longer I'll loose my wedding.» she told Melody just as a taxi pulled up beside her. She conversed with the driver for a few seconds before turning around.
«Thanks for nothing, spaceman! I'll see you in Court.» she shouted at the Doctor.
She climbed into the taxi, Melody looking back and forth between the two, taking a decision. She knew she had to protect Donna. She just would've drive back to the Doctor later. Yeah, that was a good plan.
«Oi! No! You. Out.» Donna said, as Melody climbed in the cab next to her.
«Donna I just want to be sure you'll get safe at the wedding. The Doctor said something was wrong, and I want you to be safe. Please believe me, I'll leave when you'll get to the wedding. Promise.» Melody promised.
Donna thought for a moment, pursing her lips.
«Oh, okay, whatever!» she eventually said.
Melody grinned. Then turned to the taxi driver «Saint Mary's in Chiswick. Off we go.» she instructed, leaning back in the seat.
The cab turned on and it started driving away.
Little did Melody knew that the driver was a masked Santa.
The Doctor looked up just to see Melody climbing in and the taxi driving away. His eyes widened in fear.
«Melody!» he shouted as loud as he could behind them, desperation and so much fear in his voice.
But it was late.
They've gone.
