The First Week

The First Week

The next day was our first day of class.

We had potions first. By we I mean Ron, Harry, Hermione, and I. Somehow, after breakfast, I gott separated from them, and I was lost.

Man am I glad I ran into Fred and George.

"You lost Cora?" George teased.

"Yes, I got separated from Ron, Harry, and Hermione." I said.

"Where ya goin'?"

"Potions."

"Good luck, Snape hates Griffindor. I'll show you the way. Fred, tell McGonagal I'm helping a first year."

We went through a confusing path. The grand staircase kept switching, and I was completely lost. When we finally got there, George was laughing at me being confused.

"You'll learn soon enough. See you at lunch."

"Bye George."

I walked in the room, and Snape was instantly in front of me.

"You're late!" he snapped.

I saw Draco, and he stood up.

"Sir, please pardon my little sister. She has issues with remembering how to get places, and she probably got lost." he requested.

"She is a Malfoy? Ok. Your fine then... Wait, you're a Griffindor? And a Malfoy?" Snape asked. I just nodded.

I took a seat next to Draco, because it was the only seat left.

"You ok?" my twin asked.

"I just got a little lost, but thankfully I ran into George who showed me the here." I whispered.

"Weasley? George Weasley?"

"What other George do you know?"

"Now they're really going to disown you. Friends with the Weasleys."

"Yesterday at the feast George said if our parents actually do disown me, I can stay with them."

"Ok, as long as you agree."

He didn't like the fact that I was friends with the Weasleys. There was a feud between our parents, and there always has been.

Throughout the course of the class, Griffindor lost a lot of points. Snape really did hate us.

When I got to lunch, I sat by myself again. Although,  pretty soon Fred and George came in with someone I had never seen before.

George sat next to me again, and Fred sat across from me with their friend beside him.

"Cora, this is the other member of our trouble-causing trio, Lee Jordan. Lee, this is one of the new Griffindors, Cora Malfoy." George grinned.

"You trust a Malfoy?" Lee asked, completely repulsed.

"I am hated by my family, and I am the complete opposite of them." I replied.

"By the way Cora, do you want to be part of our little group here?" Fred asked.

"Sure." I replied.

"Good, then just sign here." George said, handing me some parchment.

Then lunch was over, so George said, "All four of us will sit here tomorrow morning too, as well as this evening, and for that matter, every other day too."

Next was transfiguration. Professor McGonagal was actually really nice, and she said transfiguration is one of the most important classes in the school. Draco was talking the whole time she was.

"What is another important class?" he asked. I mentally face palmed.

"Learning to be silent when I speak, Mr. Malfoy." she snapped.

For the rest of the class we went over regulations.

When we had charms, I was surprised at how short Professor Flitwick was. Again, I sat by Draco. We were just learning how to use our wands.

That evening, I sat with Fred, George, and Lee. We were talking about some of their most recent pranks on Filch, and how they worked hand in hand with Peeves, the poltergeist of the castle, in exchange for him not to play pranks on them. Peeves just happened to be floating by, and George said, "Peeves, we have a new member. Meet Cora."

He just floated away.

We got back to the common room, and I was talking with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

"How was your day, other than being late for potions?" Hermione asked.

"Well, I met Lee Jordan,  and I'm now an official member of the group he, George, and Fred came up with." I smiled.

"What group?" Ron asked.

"They have a small group that cause problems and plays pranks. It'll be fun." I explained.

The next morning, Lee, Fred, George, and I were just laughing at some of George's jokes. When the morning post came, I wasn't expecting anything. However, a package carried by two owls was dropped in front of me. It was rather heavy, but no bigger than a quaffle. It felt like it was full of money, and it had a letter attached.

"Who's it from?" George asked.

"My parents..." I replied, opening the letter so I could read it.

I paused as I saw what it said.

"George... Could you please ask Draco to meet me in the Entrance Hall Courtyard? Tell him I really need to talk to him." I asked softly.

"Ok?" George replied questioningly.

"I'll tell you later." I replied, walking away with the letter and package.

I got to the courtyard, and waited for Draco. When he came out ten minutes later, I was shaking.

"What's wrong, Cora?" he asked, sitting beside me.

"I got a package and letter from mother and father."

"What does it say?"

Cora,

We received news that you were placed in Griffindor. We could have lived with that, but befriending the Weasleys was the last straw. Never return to this house, for you have no belongings here, you took it all with you. You are not to write Draco. Not during the summer. We do not wish to see you. You are no longer our child, and your fate is no concern of ours. Here is the money we had set aside for you. It is all the help you will receive from us.

"You've got to be kidding me. They aren't going to let you write to me in the summer? This is ridiculous." Draco said.

I was holding back tears, because I didn't want him to think of me as weak . One rolled down my cheek, and he slipped his arms around me to hug me. I put my arms around his neck and embraced him.

"We'll figure this out. Trust me, we'll keep in contact somehow." he whispered as I set my head on his shoulder. This proves he is the only one in my family who cares.

"I know we will. We need to get to potions though." I replied.

We got back inside and ran into his friends. This time, I walked with them. I dropped my package off in the common room before heading downstairs.

When we got to potions, we were the first ones there. I was fine, until the middle of class when I felt like I was going to throw up. I asked if I could leave, and I got a yes, so I went to the common room.

Halfway there, I ran into George.

"What are you doing out of class?" he asked.

"I feel sick, so Snape told me I could leave. What about you?" I questioned.

"Evidently,  having a headache in Professor Binns' class counts as sick. The only reason I had a headache,  was because he wouldn't shut up."

We went tothe common room, and just talked.

"What was in that package?" he asked.

"Money from my parents."

"What did the letter say?"

"That I can't go back, they don't want to see me. They said they won't even let me write to Draco. Just because I finally have friends too. I mean, it's not like I care what they think, but not letting me write to Draco?"

I was crying now. After so long of holding it in, knowing they didn't want Draco to care for me as much as he does, knowing my own family can't stand me, I finally cracked.

George put an arm around me and said, "I'll write to my mum later and ask if you can stay with us. You can even help send the letter if you want. We'll send it after dinner. Let's go to lunch now."

"You go, I'll be there in a few minutes. I want to take my package to my dorm so no one takes it."

"Ok."

I went up to my dormitory, and set the package down on my stand. I layed back to think for a moment.

My life sucks.

When I was on my way to lunch, I ran into two Slytherins, who didn't know who I was, only that I was a Griffindor.

They started trash talking me, and then Draco walk up.

"What the bloody hell do you think you're doing you two? Crabbe, Goyle, I would've expected it from others, but why are you two bother my sister?" he asked.

"Sorry," the chorused,  making a run for it.

Once they were gone, Draco and I walked to lunch together.

When we got to the Great Hall, I sat with Fred, George, and Lee. I promptly put my head down, and did not eat anything.

"Aren't ya gonna eat something Cora?" asked Lee.

"If I eat something, I'm more than likely going to throw up. Everything here will just make it worse." I mumbled.

"What was in that letter?" asked Fred.

"I'll tell you two tonight in our dormitory. Just let her be." said George softly.

I sat there with my head down the entire time.

When we got to transfiguration, I knew my face was still red and puffy from when I cried.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione asked if I was ok, and I assured them I was. Ron asked if I was sure, and I said George is handling it.

That only made him more curious.

In charms class, Draco asked me if I was ok.

"Yeah." I replied softly.

"You figured out what you're going to do for the summers?"

"George is working on it for me. He's going to ask his mum if I can stay with them."

"Ok."

When I got to the common room that night, George told me he sent the letter. I nodded, then said I needed some fresh air.

"D'ya mind if I come walk with you?" he asked.

"I don't care, probably should incase I pass out."

We were walking around the grounds, and randomly, we found two of the school's broomsticks laying around. I already knew how to fly, so George and I just randomly flew around, and then he found a Quaffle.

"Throw it here!" I laughed.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes!"

"Ok."

His aim was waaaay off. It went flying twenty feet to my left, but I still caught it. His jaw dropped, and I asked why.

"I think I just found the Griffindor Quidditch team's new chaser. We need another. Now all we need is a seeker." he explained. "We have to find Wood."

We practically ran back to the common room.

"Wood, I need to talk to you for a minute." George said.

When we were outside the common room with Wood, George almost exploded.

"I just found our new chaser. Cora here was passing a quaffle with me for fun, and you know how bad my aim is. It went twenty feet to her left, and she still caught it. Also, when she threw it back, she was flying very quick, and her aim is dead on." he rambled.

"Good, cuz McGonagal got us a seeker." Wood replied.

"Who?" asked George.

"Potter."

The next morning, Malfoy came to our table to talk to me before the others got there.

"I heard you made the quidditch team." he said.

"Yeah, as chaser." I replied as he walked away.

Fred, George, and Lee came over and sat down shortly afterwards.

"When's the first quidditch practice George?" I asked.

"Tonight at 5." he replied. He seemed like he was waiting for something.

"Whatch waiting for?" Lee asked.

"The post." replied George.

"Why?"  asked Fred.

"For an answer to the letter I told you guys I sent last night." George replied, getting annoyed.

When the morning post finally came, a letter was dropped in front of George, and one in front of me.

"Open yours first Cora." he said.

I opened mine, and it said I would be able to write Draco if I wanted to.

When George opened his, I realized I was holding my breath.

Then he began to read:

Dear George,

This friend was disowned for becoming friends with you? That's a little harsh, but it can be explained later. You really asked if a girl could come? I guess, and your father doesn't care. It seems like a lot of people are disowning their daughters lately. Your father over heard Lucius talking about how his daughter is a disgrace to their family.

Love Mom

"You didn't tell her my name?!" I asked in shock. Then I just burst out laughing.

"Well, no. I thought that should wait till you meet her." George grinned.

When I got to class, Draco asked me if we had a response from Mrs. Weasley, and what my letter said.

"Mother and father are now letting me write you, and the Weasleys don't mind. Their only problem is I'm a girl, and can you imagine how awkward it was for George to ask his parents if he could bring a girl home?" I was smilimg by then.

"I'm glad that's settled then." was Draco's response.

All week we had quidditch practice at 5, and I also had tons of homework, but I got it all done.
