Not a Good Feeling

London has finished explaining to Tokyo what he knows about what happened, and Tokyo is entirely shocked.

Tokyo - Why would the partner Pokémon be an actual Pokémon?!

Warsaw - Maybe they thought it would make it more realistic? It doesn't make sense.

Berlin - Maybe the developers were trying to make that crazy rabbit company even angrier.

London - What "crazy rabbit company?"

Travis - I think he's talking about Peta. They're an animal rights group, and they don't like Pokémon because they say it promotes animal cruelty.

Tokyo - What "animal cruelty?"

Travis - Putting creatures in tiny living spaces, then only letting them out to fight other creatures until they pass out.

Warsaw - I dunno, I might not have liked it, but my Pokéball wasn't uncomfortable, and I did enjoy battling...

Travis - Yes, but Peta doesn't acknowledge that, at least as far as I know.

Tokyo - Anyway... I suppose it'd be wrong to play the game now, then?

London - Play the game? Did you see what that little monster did to the cursor? I didn't know that could happen!

Tokyo - Let me see it, I can take care of it.

Travis - I should probably take care of this surgical equipment.

London, having nothing else to do because Travis needs no help, goes out for a walk through the forest. He manages to sneak up on a Ratatta and is studying its tail when it realises that there's something behind it.

Ratatta - Ah! How long have you been waiting to pounce?!

London - I wasn't going to pounce...

Ratatta - Then why were you crouched down behind me? You know what, never mind.

The Ratatta runs off, thankful to have yet again apparently found favour in the eyes of an apparently not hungry predator.

London continues his walk, losing track of the time, as well as orientation. He stumbles deep into the forest, with no idea where he's going, and eventually realises that it has become too dark to see properly.

London - Uh oh... They might miss me at dinner tonight.

The cloudy sky begins to clear up, and London looks up to see a beautiful full moon shining over the forest brightly.

London - Ah yes, moonlight! I can use that to get home!

Suddenly, he feels a sharp pain in his chest. He doubles up and falls to the ground. The Ratatta from earlier, who had followed a ways, runs up to him.

Ratatta - Whoa! Are you having a heart attack or something?!

London - I don't... Ugh!

The Ratatta realises that something more than just pain is happening, and he dives back for the safety of a thick bush.

London - No! Don't leave! Ach!

As London is struggling on the forest floor, a very annoyed Poochyena bounds up to fend off the intrusion. Not knowing what's best for it, it tries to attack London.

London - No! Get off! What's wrong with... You...

London's pain dies down, and he is able to stand up. He sets his stance in preparation for a fight, but the Poochyena suddenly seems a lot less interested in fighting, and runs away.

London - Huh... That was... Unusual... But what was that pain? It was terrible!

London realises that everything on the ground seems a little further away than it was before, and he quickly checks himself over. His fur has become much longer and has gained a grey tone, his claws have grown to the point that they have become visible, and his teeth have become long and unruly in his mouth.

London - Whoa! That isn't normal!

Ratatta - That's an understatement! You're completely different!

London - Ratatta! Where are you?

Ratatta - Nope! No way, José. I am not gonna give away my location just yet.

London - I'm not going to eat you.

Ratatta - In my experience, newly evolved Monsters tend to be really hungry and/or tired after evolution. You look like you just evolved. So, I'm gonna wait until you either fall asleep or eat something else before I show myself.

London - Oh, that's how it is? Well, let me show you something.

London dodges into the bush where the Ratatta is hiding and quickly fishes him out, holding him by the tail.

London - See? I found you very quickly. If I meant to eat you, would I have engaged in the pleasantries?

Ratatta - Usually, cruel predators do. And I don't know about you, so I was planning on being careful. I guess it doesn't matter now, anyway. My time has finally come.

London - For Grief's sake, I'm not going to eat you!

Meanwhile, Jan decides to take a late walk through the forest. The moon is out, and she feels good in its glow. She ponders the events that had gone on through the day, and keeps meandering much further than she meant to, just lost in her thoughts as she has become in the woods.

Jan - Where do we go from here? What can we do with all these resentful... Who's there?

Jan hears faint voices in the dense forest, and she begins looking carefully around to see if there's anyone nearby, but she can't see through the thick forest.

? - For Grief's sake, I'm not going to eat you!

Jan - Whoa... Is someone in trouble?

Jan begins to move as quickly as she can through the woods in the direction of the gruff, lisping voice she heard. Meanwhile...

Ratatta - Then put me down! Your claws are cutting into my tail!

London - Oh... Sorry.

London adjusts his grip so as not to hurt the Ratatta too much, but he does not put him down.

Ratatta - I think you missed my main objective. I said put me down! Please?

London is staring thoughtfully into the eyes of the helpless rodent.

Ratatta - See, those are the eyes of a hungry predator. Shame on you for giving me hope!

Jan crashes through the brush and finds a giant creature, bigger even than Jessie, seemingly poised to gobble down a helpless Ratatta in its grasp. The two break eye contact to look at the newcomer.

Ratatta - Its you! The Remorseful Predator!

Jan - Please don't call me that, my name is Jan. Alright, my large and lisping friend, you will put that fellow down, or I shall be forced to... Uh... Use force!

London - Ah! Don't hurt me! I didn't mean anything!

Jan - Then put him down, eh?

London is reluctant to let go of the rodent, even though he doesn't really want to eat it, but he sets the Ratatta down anyway, knowing that Jan is very capable in battle against even foes larger than herself.

Jan - Good, good. Now go away.

London - But...

Jan - No buts! Eat someone closer to your level of the food chain!

London - Like what?

Jan - I don't know, find something!

Ratatta - Don't say that! You're on the level of that something!

Jan - My friend, you are not helping me. Now, you, my large friend, you must go!

London - But...

Jan - Already I said no buts!

London - But Jan!

Jan - Just because you use my name does not make you any better in my eyes.

Ratatta - How does he know your name?

Jan - I literally just told it to you, and he couldn't have helped but to overhear, what with those great ears he has!

London - No, Jan, listen! Its me, London!

Jan - wut

London - I don't know what happened, but I swear its me! I was at your surgery! Remember? You can't make that stuff up!

Jan - I mean, you can... Its just highly unlikely. You don't look at all like London. You look like... I don't know, I've never seen anything like you before. I'm still suspicious of you. What's your brother's name?

London - ...Brother?

Jan - Actually, that was correct. London has no brother.

London - And my sister's name is Amsterdam! Do you believe me?

Jan - ...You must understand, this is all correct, but excuse me if I take it with a pinch of salt. This information could, as this Ratatta said, be "squeezed out" of somebody, and you don't look at all like the person in question. I cannot take any chances yet.

London is still desperate to prove his authenticity.

London - Ratatta! You saw! I was on the ground! And this happened!

Ratatta - Yeah... You were a Vaporeon before, but then you evolved and wanted to eat me.

London - I already told you, that's not true!

Ratatta - You had "Hungry Predator with Helpless Prey" eyes. Trust me, I've seen them before.

London - But...

Jan - No! Sit down! Both of you! You are making my head spin!

The two immediately plot their butts on the ground, surprised at the outburst.

Jan - Alright. I'm going to keep an eye on you both til morning, you understand? I do not want any funny business!

London - If that's what it takes to prove my innocence...

Ratatta - I don't want to sit this close to this guy until morning!

Jan - You'll be fine.

Jan sits and watches the two, but she gradually gets more and more tired, until she isn't paying attention, and she falls asleep. In the meantime, London is, in fact, feeling peckish, and his stomach growling is making the Ratatta more and more concerned. He decides to move closer to Jan when the enormous creature begins looking at him again.

Jan wakes up early in the morning, before the rise of the sun, on her side, on top of something that is small and wiggly.

Ratatta - Oh come on, you've gotta wake up!

London, meanwhile, is trying to move Jan off of the Ratatta, so as to get at it.

Jan - Oi! What are you doing?

London - I'm sorry! I just didn't eat lunch or dinner yesterday, and I'm starving!

Jan - Ach, just like Abuja. Calm yourself!

London - I don't know what you're waiting for!

Jan - I want to see you in good light, so I can get a better idea of who and what you are.

As Jan is talking, sunlight peaks through the trees, shining on London's pelt. He doubles up again, and Jan watches in shock as he shrinks back into a perfectly normal looking London.

Jan - Oh my goodness, it wasn't a lie! What is this, London?

London - I swear, its never happened before...

Ratatta - Can I leave? I don't know why I had to stay here anyway...

The Ratatta runs off, once again thankful to have survived another encounter with large predators, and Jan and London go home.
