Chapter 3: A Night Out
I surrounded myself with my bright yellow aura as I turned to my enemy, a black figured fellow with a blue and purple hue surrounding him. I held my sword into my fighting stance and exclaimed, "Leave this place! You will never destroy Yuina."
"Sweet child," her enemy said with a twisted smile. "You have no idea how powerful and fulfilling this dark magic has been for me! It can be for you as well if you join me."
"Never!" I yelled back in defiance. "I-I will never join you." At that moment, tears ran down my face uncontrollably.
'Well then," her enemy cackled, "you've brought your demise upon yourself!" He formed a dark energy ball from the darkness that enshrouded the both of us. In the meanwhile, my sword began to glow yellow. My eyes narrowed towards my opponent. I had to win, no matter what! As the both of us collided with each other to get a final blow, a huge flash emitted from the attack. When it was over, all that remained was me and my sword, which harbored a darker hue. I then felt dizzy and my eyes began to cloud up my view. It didn't help that my head felt fuzzy too. I stumbled unknowingly forward and fell off the top of the building.
I woke up, gasping for breath and shivering with goosebumps. I was glad I didn't fall off my bed, otherwise I would've woken up Lucky. I glanced over at my clock and it read midnight. "What was that?" I said to myself. Although I knew what it was, but that wasn't my concern. My concern was why. Why did I have that dream? I was so vivid, too real to be a dream! I sat up and rubbed my eyes sleepily, deciding to open a little window that sat by my bed. The first thing I felt was a cool breeze on my face. The first thing I saw were lights, lots of lights. But I wasn't too surprised. It seemed like the city never sleeps, cars going back and forth to their set destinations. I yawned, but I didn't feel like going back to sleep. "What should I do?" I thought. I glanced outside and imagined how cool it'd be if I went out for a walk, just to see al the lights. I gasped. I had a brilliant idea!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"All right Lucky, let's do this!" I exclaimed, putting on my tennis shoes. "Are you ready for an adventure?" I turned to my little companion and grinned. Lucky, however, was straight-faced.
"Shinx."
"What? You look adorable! No one will notice!" I straightened his fake, fluffy tail and hooked a yellow leash on his collar. "Now I know that you don't like doing this, but we don't have a choice. If we want to get out in public, we have to fit in."
"Shinx!"
"You're coming with me to get some fresh air, silly. We both need it. Now let's go!" I put on my black glasses and headed out the door.
"Shinx?"
"Oh we'll be out for only a little bit. What could go wrong?" I soon walked out of the apartment complex and gasped in awe. There were so many lights!! Lights for the street, lights for the holographic ad boards, and lights for the inside of buildings. I was mentally excited but on the outside I kept calm, one of the things I've learned when I'm in disguise. Then I started walking in one direction, doing my best to act like a regular passerby. Lucky was mostly silent and stayed by my side. If he said even one word, everyone would know that something was up. It was one of the few problems I had with my job: we couldn't be ourselves. Whenever we went places secretly, we couldn't say who we were, where we're from, or why we actually came here. I couldn't say the things I wanted to say, or do what I wanted to do. It felt so constrictive, too constrictive sometimes. But that didn't matter right now. It was time for fresh air and no worries. Then it happened.
I heard police sirens off in the distance and turned to what seemed to be where I heard it come from. "Where is that coming from?" I said. I bit my lip and dashed quickly to an alleyway, where no one was watching. I took off my glasses and whispered, "What am I supposed to do?"
"Shinx?" Lucky replied softly, trying to get the leash off of himself.
"Didn't you hear the sirens? There's someone out there that needs help and the police are going there. I want to help too."
"Shinx, Shinx!"
"Of course, I'm aware of that. But I feel a bit bounded by all these rules. I just want to say 'Screw the rules!' and go after them!" I said the last part with more conviction, desperate to figure out a way to break away from my chained rules. Lucky looked up at me and said,
"...Shinx."
"You too? Well, leashes and collars aren't the most comfortable thing in the world, or at least I think so." I threw on the hood of my jacket and put my glasses back on. "Let's go help people, Lucky!"
"Shinx!"
"But you may have to stick with the collar until we get there, okay?"
"Shinx?!" I laughed as I started running out of the alleyway. Whoever that person was, help was on the way!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay, ready?" a young boy with a blue ponytail said. "I got the arms and you have the legs!"
"Are you sure we shouldn't get help, Leo?" his twin sister in blue pigtails suggested, about to grab an unconscious person's legs.
"No way! Didn't you see the criminal mark on his face?! If anyone else sees this guy, he'll take him back to the Facility. We got to do this on our own." Leo grabbed the person's legs and counted down from three. He and his sister lifted the person together after one but couldn't move him around. He was too heavy for the twins, and those two were small for their age. They carefully put the person down and sighed. "Ugh, it's no use!" Leo groaned. "How are we going to get him inside now?"
"P-Perhaps I can help you." The twins turned to the voice and saw a young woman with a strange-looking cat with black and blue fur. The woman took off her black hoodie and fixed her brown hair. "H-Hello there," she said with a soft smile.
"Who are you?" Leo asked.
"M-My name is Kōchi Hachibana. I-It seems you're having a little trouble with your friend here."
"Oh, this guy? I mean, we don't know the guy but Luna knew something happened. So, we ran here and she was right. Are you planning on turning him over to the police?!" Kōchi shook her head. The boy raised his eyebrows in confusion.
"A-Although I should, I'm not going to. I-It doesn't seem right, given that the person is unconscious." Kōchi took a quick look at the unconscious boy and his red motorcycle, and gasped quietly. "I-It's you," she said quietly. His hair was too distinct for her not to recognize him.
"What are you whispering?" Leo asked Kōchi.
"N-Nothing, little guy," Kōchi replied with a smile. "N-Now that you know my name, why don't you tell me yours?"
"I'm Leo!" he grinned. "This is my sister Luna."
"Hello," Luna smiled. "Can you help us bring him inside?"
"O-Of course!" Kōchi said. "B-But we have to do it quickly before anyone else find out what we're doing, ok?"
"Right!" the twins exclaimed happily.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Perfect, we're done!" Leo grinned, spreading a blanket over the unconscious guy. "Do you think he'll wake up soon?"
"I-I hope not," Kōchi admitted, resting her arms on the back of the couch. "I-I don't want him to know that I'm here."
"Why?"
"I-It's better that way."
"Okay...then why do you stutter a lot?"
"Leo, don't ask that!" Luna scolded. Kōchi only laughed at his question.
"T-That's okay," she said. "I-I get asked that a lot. Y-You see, I've had a stuttering problem ever since I was a child. I-It's gotten better over the years but I still have it." She looked around the room and asked, "W-Where are your parents?"
"They live somewhere else," Luna explained. "It's just my brother and I that live here."
"W-What a lot of space for the two of you!"
"Yeah, it's cool!" Leo grinned. Kōchi chuckled softly and saw her cat on top of the unconscious boy, poking his face.
"L-Lucky, please don't do that!" she exclaimed, grabbing him and setting him on her shoulder.
"That's your cat?" Leo asked curiously. "It looks funny."
"W-Well, he's like that," Kōchi said, petting his face. "B-But Lucky is extremely friendly and a little mischievous. I-I should probably go before he starts causing more trouble." She was about to go when the twins tugged on her hand.
"Please stay," Luna pleaded. "We have room for one more here."
"I-It's okay," Kōchi said gently. "I-I don't live too far from here anyway."
"Awww!" Leo frowned. Kōchi laughed and knelt down to the twins, getting to their eye level. There was one thing that she had to do.
"I-I need the both of you to do me a favor," Kōchi whispered softly. "I-It's really important."
"What is it?" Luna asked.
"D-Don't tell anyone that I was here. I-If someone finds out, I'll be in trouble. C-Can you do that for me?"
"Yeah!" Leo answered with a cheeky grin. "You can count on us to keep this a secret!" Luna nodded in agreement.
"O-Okay, take care of yourselves and of our friend here." Kōchi waved to the twins as she said that and left their apartment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Those twins were extremely adorable!!" I squealed, taking off my glasses and hoodie jacket when Lucky and I made it inside of our apartment. "Weren't they, Lucky?"
"Shinx!" Lucky exclaimed, tearing off his fake tail.
"I'm glad you liked them too. To be honest, I wasn't expecting what happened tonight. I can't believe we meet Yusei tonight too, but he was unconscious."
"Shinx?"
"I...I don't know that. I'm not sure if we should've put him back in jail, or the Facility as it's apparently called here. It just didn't feel right for him to go there. The only crime he ever did was that he left the Satellite sector. What kind of a crime is that?! We don't arrest people for that in Yuina!" I groaned in frustration. The city was so confusing.
That's the end of the chapter!! I'm going to try my best to stay close to the anime but to be honest, I haven't watched all of it so I may take a few creative liberties with this. I'm sorry, it's just that I've had this story in mind before I finished 5Ds. So bear with me, please!
So, what do you think of the chapter and the story so far! Feedback would be very appreciated. Have an awesome week!!
