Chapter 2: Something Exciting
After a few more days, Kōchi was able to be comfortable with her working environment. But she still stuttered the first word of any sentence she made, which she blamed to being a force of habit. However, Mina didn't mind it and continued to work with Kōchi in whatever the latter could. Kōchi didn't mind work with Mina either, since she gave the young office worker respect. Lazar didn't want to want to work with Kōchi because of her lowly stature, keeping her head down whenever she speaks to anyone. So, he was more than happy to see her work with Mina more than himself.
During the work week, Kōchi walked quickly to the office room where Mina worked at. She was supposed to have brought Mina her latte but the latte machine that was close by didn't work, so she went to another room in the build to find a second machine. She huffed as she walked into the room and said,
"I-I apologize for being late, Mina. T-The machine nearby wasn't working, so I ran to the other one. H-Here is your latte." Kōchi was about to hand her boss the drink when she noticed that Mina's face was a little bruised, especially her jawline that had a fainted red color. At first, Kōchi didn't want to say anything that could possibly offend Mina. But she couldn't help it, she wanted to speak out. So, the young office worker gulped and asked softly, "I-Is everything all right?"
"Of course," Mina said quickly, focusing on her work. "Why would there be anything wrong?"
"Y-You look a little bruised on your face, Ms. Mina. I-I'm a bit worried..."
"I am fine, Kōchi! Now get to work, please. I have some papers for you to do for me." Mina's harsh tone made her assistant yelp and say quickly,
"R-Right away, ma'am!" Kōchi made her way to the desk where Mina was working at and grabbed the papers quickly. "I-I'm sorry for being a disturbance to you, Ms. Mina. I-I won't ask again." She walked to a little desk in the room, sat down, and began to work. Kōchi didn't mean to cause such a reaction. All she wanted to know was if Mina was okay. Now the atmosphere of the room felt tense for Kōchi as she worked. She didn't know whether to speak up again or to stay quiet and do her work. At one point she opened her mouth, but the words wouldn't come out. She felt scared, too scared to say the important thing on her mind. So, she bit her lip and kept working.
Mina kept working but couldn't help but feel bad for Kōchi. It seemed like all Kōchi wanted to know was if she was okay. She grabbed a small mirror from her purse and inspected her face, seeing the bruise. That noticeable mark wasn't helping with Mina's case of being okay. But did Kōchi really needed to know what was going on? That was the question that haunted Mina. To her, Kōchi was innocent, a child. If the girl knew, that would change a lot of things for Mina, and possibly their superior.
"I-I'm done with the papers you wanted me to do," Kōchi said, approaching Mina's desk. "I-Is there anything else you would like me to do today?"
"That will be all for now, Kōchi," Mina replied without moving her eyes from her work. "Thank you." Kōchi bowed her head and made her way to the exit door. As she opened the door, Mina made her decision. "Kōchi, close the door."
"Y-Yes, ma'am?" Kōchi said, closing the door. The girl looked at Mina and stuttered, "I-Is something w-wrong, Ms. Mina?" Mina stood up and said,
"I want to apologize for what I did earlier. It didn't seem right for me to yell at you. As for me, I'm doing okay. Last night was a bit worse though.'
"W-Why is that?" Kōchi asked, a little curious. "D-Did something happen?"
"A Satellite resident arrived in this part of the city and had a duel with Jack. Goodwin was furious when he found out."
"S-Satellite? W-What is that?" Mina's eyes widened a little from her assistant's question but then said,
"Oh that's right, you're not from this city. Satellite is a small island that used to be a part of the mainland. Basically, it's where the poor live and work on recycling the trash from here."
"I-I see. D-Did Mr. Goodwin hurt you?"
"..Yes but I'm fine now. The rest of us watched the duel and...a few interesting things happened."
"L-Like what?" Mina took a deep breath before answering.
"Before I can say, I need you to promise me not to tell anyone else. You must promise me."
"I-I promise."

"Lucky, you would not BELIEVE the day I had today!" I exclaimed happily.
"Shinx!" Lucky cried, sitting on the little coffee table in my room. He leaped down to the floor but accidentally on my pair of tennis shoes. I laughed and took off my glasses and began to change out of my office clothes.
"I think I found a lead on the Crimson Dragon!" I explained while I put on a white tank top. "Very late last night, a person from another part of the city, an island in fact, came out of nowhere and dueled Jack! And I don't mean a regular duel. It was a Turbo Duel!! Then in the middle of the duel, the dragon came out of nowhere! That's, like, the coolest thing ever!! Oh, now I wish I was there!!!" I changed into sweats and tied my black hair in a high ponytail. I was too excited to stay still so I ran off into the kitchen. "Can you imagine what it would've been like to be there, Lucky?!"
"Shinx!!" Lucky exclaimed, dashing to the kitchen too.
"I know!" I replied. "Those two were so lucky to have had a chance to meet it. I wanna meet it!" But a random thought occurred to me after I said that. It was quite odd, at least to me, but it was something I wanted to know. "Y'know, I wonder what happened to that one guy that dueled Jack."
"Shinx?"
"No, Mina didn't mention too much about him. Although she did say that she'll email me the details. Apparently, he's from Satellite and that's where...the less fortunate reside and take care of the trash. Though I don't understand why the need for this separation. It reminds me of home...too much, actually." I sighed a little. I kind of missed home, being away from my family and friends. Whenever I had a mission, I could talk to them all the time so that I wouldn't be lonely. But since this mission was top secret, I couldn't contact anyone I knew in Yuina. I turned to Lucky and suggested, "Maybe I should be more social. Should I build a social network here?"
"Shinx! Shinx!" Lucky replied, shaking his head. I thought for a moment of what he said and laughed. He had a point.
"True," I replied. "If I make a few friends here, I'll never hear the end of it from authorities. I wonder if employees count as friends." I heard my phone go off in my room and I groaned. "It better not be more spam mail," I said, walking to my room. I picked up my phone and skimmed through my emails, only to see an email from Mina. I grinned happily.
"I got the email from Mina!" I exclaimed. "Come on, we gotta see this." I ran over to my room excitedly and grabbed my laptop. Finally, exciting things were happening! I sat on the couch and searched for the email to get a better idea of who this person was. Lucky soon joined me, laying down right beside me as I found the email. I opened the file and discovered a typed record of a boy, with blue eyes and black hair that had yellow streaks in it. "Huh," I said aloud. "What do you think, little buddy?" Lucky looked at the person and happily said,
"Shinx!"
"Really? I mean, the streaks in his hair kind of remind me of you but that's about it. Let's see...Yusei Fudo, huh? It sounds familiar. Anyway, let's see what they got on him." I examined the record and I didn't see too much. He was arrested for leaving the Satellite sector, used to be part of a duel gang, and lost his parents in the Zero Reverse Incident. I scratched my head for a moment. "Zero Reverse Incident?" I asked aloud. "What is that? And why does it have that name to begin with?"
"Shinx!" Lucky said in reply.
"I don't know either, my friend! But whatever this was must've done some damage to this city. Ooh, perhaps it was something nuclear." Thinking about the subject briefly I said, "Oh well, it's no use to make assumptions. Maybe I'll ask Mina about it later!" I stared at the file and then at the picture of Yusei. To be honest, He kind of looked intimidating. Then again, anyone would be considered intimidating if they were caught and put in jail for a crime. Those pictures before going to jail aren't supposed to be too photogenic. I felt a slight tug on my shirt and turned to see Lucky with his head tilted a little. "What?"
"Shinx!"
"What do you mean I was staring at it for too long?! It doesn't mean I like the guy. Sure, he looks attractive but so does Jack! I don't even know the guy either. All I know is what he looks like and the file that Mina sent me with his...criminal...record." I turned to Lucky quickly and exclaimed, "Does this mean I'm a stalker?!"
"Shinx."
"What do you mean maybe?! You're not helping my situation here!" It also dawned on me that Mina entrusted me with this information. She trusted me. That was a little scary. Why would she give me this? What does it prove? I sighed softly. "What kind of mess are we getting ourselves into, Lucky?" My little friend didn't seem to pay attention to what I said.
"Shinx?"
"No! I'm not going to stare at his picture again!" But as I thought about it for a minute or so, I facepalmed mentally as I said, "Okay fine, I'll look at it for a few seconds..."
That's the end of the chapter! Before I end things off I want to say this: if you find any grammar mistakes, let me know! I'm not a perfect writer and when I edit my writing sometimes I don't see mistakes. So if you find any, let me know so that I can fix it right away.
Thank you very much and have an awesome week!
