Chapter 49: Violet Proves a Point
Ells' POV
Violet looked like she was about to explode. She started mumbling things that I didn't want to repeat out loud. I put my hand on her shoulder, as I could feel her body ease from tension.
We followed the villager quietly, stepping into the tortoise green grass. The kids that were running around, stopped their game of tag to watch us with their big childlike eyes.
"They must not get visitors often..." I whispered to Dimitry, as he nodded his head. All of a sudden, a big hand wrapped around Dimitry, as it pushed me away.
"Now, you, my brother, must've fought hard. How long have you been traveling for?" He asked him, looking at Dimitry anxiously.
"Uhh... a while, I guess?" He said, looking at the man confusingly.
"Of course you have!" The big guy said, laughing again like crazy... What a weirdo...
We took a turn, and the man stopped us in front of a few women, children, and, well, the problem.
A huge tree had fallen on one of the huge wheat farms. I didn't know how we didn't notice this before, because this thing is humongous!
"Now, time to prove yourself! If you can successfully lift this tree, and regrow the damaged crops before the sun sets, you will get your reward." He said, doing another laugh. That laugh is driving me crazy!
"Wait, you didn't mention a reward before..." I said, but the man just kept on laughing. He walked away, along with the other villagers, as they sat down and watched us intently.
"Ok, so how the heck are we supposed to lift this huge tree, get it back to life, and review the crops before sunset?" Hunter said, upsettingly. We all had the obvious idea in our head, but, we had non-magicals here...
"You guys all know we can use you-know-what, but, I don't know what it would do for them..." Violet said, signaling to the villagers, as she took off her cloak and stretched her arms.
"Woah woah woah!" One of the older teen men said, as he went up to Violet.
"Now, cupcake, this job is very dangerous. You might get hurt on the soft grass..." He said, as some of the men began to snicker in the crowd.
The four of us just looked at the man with wide eyes (Simon really didn't care, and had no emotion on his face whatsoever).
I saw her eye begin to twitch. I knew this wouldn't end well, so I just slowly backed away with the others.
Then, he punched him in the face, hard. You could hear his cheekbone break, as he landed on the floor, his cheek beginning to bruise. He was conscious.
"If any of you idiot men so much as tell a woman what they can or can't do, I will break your skull." She yelled at them, as they remained quiet.
"Umm... Continue on, fair maidens." One of the other men said, as Violet dropped the rest of the cloaks on the ground. I took off my cloak, and set it down with the others.
"Wait a second... Hey guys, I have an idea." Simon said, as we all gathered around and whispered the plan. A few minutes later, we went straight to work.
