Chapter 18: The Symbol

Ells' POV
By the time we turn 18, we have to decide what kind of magic to specialize in. The catch is, that would bind all of our contact with other elements. There are a few exceptions here and there. For example, if you chose to specialize in Water Magic, Then your Water Magic would become super strong. You would still be able to light up torches, but besides that, your Fire Magic would be permanently bind. As well as your Earth and Air Magic.

Choosing can be a very hard decision. If you don't use by the end of your 18th birthday, your magic will slowly fade away, along with any memories you had of magic.

My mother would randomly tell me these things once in a while, from my father. I wonder what he's like...

"Don't worry. We have until were 18 to decide on that. That's a little whiles away. I'm sure we'll do fine." I said, unsure if I should've said that.

"Hopefully." Violet said, showing the first emotion beside her usual emotionless one. Concern.

"It's time I go to bed. I'm tired!" Astrid said, stretching his arms.

So, we all walked off to out bedrooms and I instantly fell asleep in my warm comfy bed. I had completely forgotten about the thing with Mrs. Kuro over the happiness I had with my friends.

Ells' POV
Violet woke me up, bright and early in the morning.

"Rise and shine, Ells." She said, her voice sounding awfully lazy. Was she tired?

I rolled out of bed and looked at the time. Why is it so early? It doesn't feel that early.

"Good morning, Violet." I said, going into my bag and looking for another pair clothes. I went to the bathroom and got ready for the day. While I was doing so, I could hear the boys waking up and being loud. Mainly Dimitry and Hunter, though. They won't stop arguing about which video game was better.

When I come out of the bathroom, you could still hear them lashing out at eachother.

"Minecraft is the best!" Hunter yelled.

"What?! Five Night's At Freddy's is clearly the best!" Dimitry yelled back. Violet was watching, eating a bowl of potato chips covered in barbecue sauce.

Then, I felt someone tapping on my shoulder.

"Ells." I heard him whisper, as I turned around to see who I thought I would see. Astrid. He grabbed my wrist and brought me into the boys room and shut the door.

"What is it, Astrid? What's wrong?" I asked him, concerned. I never seen him act like this before. His hands were slightly shaking, and his face had help me written all over.

"This morning, I found... this." He said, as he turned around and pointed to his neck.

On the back of his neck, there was a black symbol, a circle almost, but with an arrow. Hints or red was on the tip of the arrow, flying off.

Then, it hit me. Like a punch in the face.

A/N: I have written 116 flashcards for this story! I am so proud of myself! I actually stuck with the story and didn't stop at, like, chapter 3 or something! I'm so happy! And thank you all so much for reading! I can't believe we have 4K readers for only 19 chapters! That's so huge for me!
That means, if we get more readers, in this becomes more popular, then the story might even get promoted! I mean, there's probably not even a remote chance we're gonna get promoted, but hey! Stay on the bright side!
So, stay reading my lovelies!
