CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO [PART TWO]

EMMA'S POV
Many emotions run through my head as I am being escorted out. Anger, disappointment, disgust, more anger and as much as I would hate to admit it, fear. I had just threatened one of the richest influencer in the whole state. Making it even more likely for both my parents to lose their jobs at a goal. So much for this Valentine being my best one yet.
His bodyguards upon successfully escorting me to the hall, make a three-sixty back to his study to do God knows what. Probably to harass another innocent teenage girl.
"Ow!" I cry, wincing in pain aroused from bumping heads with.......
"Wang?" I mouth, only just looking up. Although a pink bruise has started to form at the end of her temple, she still manages a smile.
"The one and only." She states cheerfully.
"I'm sorry about that." I apologise, pointing at the bruise. She must have really fragile skin. "I wasn't expecting to see anyone." I add.
"I have had worse." She says, brushing it off. "I came looking for you because you were taking too long, I thought something had happened." She explains, her brows wrinkling up in worry.
My heart melts at her compassion, I mean it has barely been four hours since we met but here she is tainting her almost flawless skin with worry wrinkles from not hearing from me.
Just as I make to speak, the devil, taking the form of a grey eyed man appears from the hallway I had just come out from.
I immediately tense up as his cold eyes connects with mine. He stares between Wang and I, looking a little bit surprised. The faintest of smirks linger at the corner of his lips just immediately after.
"What's wrong sweetie? You look pale." Wang states, accessing me with her eyes.
"No... nothing."  I stutter, all attention on him, like intensly staring at him would somehow make a difference.
He nods at me like we were best of friends and he hadn't just threatened half the population of the people I love minutes ago and then at Wang, willing her to do the same before walking past us, back to the party.
"Do you know him?" Wang asks, "Personally." She adds as If rethinking her question, seeing as almost everyone knows who Shawn West is.
"He's my boyfriend's father." I explain, trying to cover up my irritation as much as possible.
Her mouth forms an O while her eyes twitch like she's thinking something through.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She asks again, clearly not convinced with my first answer.
"I ..I just need so...some from fresh air." I manage to say, already in the verge of breaking down.
She finally let's me go, sensing my struggles. I speed walk into the hall to see that the dance floor has been cleared and everybody's attention is now faced on Mason, who is standing on the second step of a staircase making it easier for everyone to see him.
He is stood in front of a mike stand, from what I can make out, he has started off with the speech I had written down, speaking with so much confidene and owning the stage like some fancy cloth model.
His father is stood beside him, proud, I can tell. Although he will never admit, I can tell Mason is also happy seeing as he's finally making his dad proud.
Although I am mad as hell, I can't stop the smile that creeps up on my face from seeing him so happy. No no no...... Keep it together Emma, you're suppose to be done with the west's family, Mason inclusive.
As though he could feel my stare, his eyes roam around the hall until it lands on me. He eyes me weirdly, putting a stop to his speech as he accesses me from up to down.
Now done, his expression instantly turns to one of concern, I know Wang said something about me looking pale and all, but I didn't think it was that bad, but judging by his expression, she must not have been kidding around.
He cocks his brows in a way of asking if anything is wrong, making me scoff in response.
I reach for my shoe buckle and free my legs although the heels weren't much of a pain. Heels in hand, I storm out, ignoring him.
The door automatically parts again, letting me out. My Intention of needing somewhere quiet is destroyed by prying paparazzi who somehow already know my name. Seems like that's basic info now.
Both frustrated and angered, I crazy walk away from them all the way to traffic, in hopes of catching a cab.
I gasp in shock as a hand grabs me, causing  me to turn around.
"Arrrh! I've had enough of grey to last me a lifetime." I conclude, upon setting eyes on the culprit.
"What's up with you?" He asks, ignoring my tantrum.
"What's up with me!?" I scream, finally able to let it out. "What's up with you?! Aren't you suppose to be with daddy dearest?" I conclude, already In the verge of breaking down, as my mind created the worse possible scenarios.
What if my parents lost their jobs and can't afford to get another one once Shawn West puts in a bad word? Making them no longer able to pay for our tuition fee or anything as a matter of fact.
Or what if he does the same or worse to the girls and their families as well? Whichever way, it will all be my fault, I just had to attract all this drama.
Maybe Becky was right about me, I ruin everything. If Mason didn't think so too, he wouldn't have made this deal, trusting that I would somehow create a scene.
I wonder who else thinks that way of me.
"I couldn't stay knowing there's a possibility that something might be up with you." He says, eyeing me like I'm some fragile art piece.
He reaches for my face, cupping it with both hands, searching my eyes in an attempt of getting answers seeing as I remain quiet, while I search his, trying to detect any sign of insincerity.
His facials immediately turn from worry to realisation and finally to anger when a stubborn tear finds its way out of my eye.
"He did this, didn't he?" He asks, curling his hands into a fist.
"I knew I shouldn't have left you alone." He mutters more to himself than me. "He sure is going to pay for this." He promises, already charging back to the party.
As I watch his retreating figure, I become even more unable to get a hold of myself, so I scream his name in hopes that he would turn around.
When he does, I throw myself at him with so much force he staggers backwards before finally gaining his composure. He returns the hug, wrapping his arms tightly around me, creating the much needed comfort.
Head buried in his chest, I cry softly, wetting his expensive tux in the process as flashes of my family and friends getting hurt comes to mind over and over again.
"Mason?" I call, almost in a whisper.
"Umh?" He responds causing the top of my head where his chin is resting on to feel ticklish.
"I'm scared." I confess, gaining a surprising amount of comfort just by being wrapped in his arm.
"Look at me." He orders, freeing his hold on me. I obey, tilting my head up to see him properly.
"It's going to be fine, I won't let anything happen to you, I give you my word." He says with all seriousness.
"I give you my word? Who are you Klaus Michelson?" I taunt, accessing my palm which I had used to wipe away the tears. God bless whoever created waterproof makeup.
"He wishes." He says arrogantly, there's the Mason I know!
"Say that again and half the female population will beat you to a pulp." I warn, we don't play around when it comes to Klaus Michelson.
"Seriously though, I will go against almost anyone to keep you safe, and he's no exception." He says, staring intensly at me as he tugs a stray hair out of the way.
We stay in the position for God knows how long, but I can't seem to look away, it's like an iPhone effect were every other thing is a blur and I can only focus on those beautiful grey orbs.
"Ouch! What is the matter with you woman?!" He cries in protest, rubbing the spot where I had just punched.
"That's for not giving me a heads-up about your dad being a psycho mafia lord." I say matter of factly. "No offense." I add, realising how rude it sounded to call someone's dad that.
"Trust me none taken, plus that has already been established, you're just a drama queen." He says causing me to roll my eyes in response.
"Hold up, did you stand everyone up just to come see if I was okay?" I ask as an involuntary smile appears on my face. Something is seriously wrong with me.
"Don't flatter yourself I was already bored, you just happen to storm off at the right moment." he says matter of factly.
"Let me think what I want to." I demand, fake glaring at him, leading him to raise his hands in mock surrender.
"Let's get you home." He states, pulling the keys out of his pocket as he leads us to yet another car I haven't seen before.
"How many cars do you own?" I ask.
"Wouldn't you want to know." He says, opening the door for me to get in.
I don't push it, instead I get in. While waiting for him to walk round, I subtly breathe in the familiar scent present in all of his cars I've been in. They always smell like him and that weirdly comforts me.
"Are you smelling my car?" Mason asks amusedly, startling me.
"Don't sneak up on people like that, it's creepy." I say, hand in heart.
"Creepy? You're the one smelling my car." He retorts. Having no other defence, I huff, resting my head on the window while he laughs showing off his perfect dentition.
We settle in a comfortable silence while he drives. My mind somehow goes back to worrying about his dad. I know, I know, I might be overreacting a tad bit and this kind of threat mostly ever happens in movies, so I've got nothing to worry about.
Then again, it's been one drama after the other this past week, so I'm not taking any chances.
I feel warm hands wrap around mine, I turn to face him when he squeezes reassuringly.
"How many times do I have to tell you? You've got nothing to worry about." He says slightly irritated.
"You don't understand, he threatened to take my parents jobs and he knew all these information about me." I snap, feeling the need to justify my reasons for worrying.
He sighs before replying.
"My dad is many things but he isn't a criminal. Whatever he said to you, take it as a bluff, he's only trying to scare you." He reassures.
"But..." I start to protest but he interrupts me.
"And about your dad losing his job, he never compromises the safety of the business. If he hired your dad then he must be damn good at what he does and he isn't about to lose that." He states, stealing a smile from me.
He goes back to driving, being the paranoid person I am, I go back to worrying. He glances at me, noticing my lingering worry, sighs and turns the car around and starts driving in a different direction.
"Why did you turn the car around?" I ask.
"Seeing as words aren't doing much to calm your nerves, I have a better idea."
"Which is?" I inquire, sitting upright.
"You'll see." He says, his facials not giving anything up. Familiar with the drill, I collapse back on the chair fully aware that he's never telling me where it is we're going but it's probably a five star suite or something of that sort.

*****
He parks the car at the entrance of what looks like the woods and gets out, moving to the trunk probably to get something.
I follow suit not bothering to wait for him to get the door, trying to access where we are. From what I can make out although it's hard to see, it's definitely not some five star or one star place even.
I shriek in fright when a hand comes in contact with my shoulders. On impulse I knee the culprit in the place where the sun doesn't shine and make a run for it.
I only turn back when I hear Mason's familiar call for help. I facepalm myself,
Of course it was Mason, who else could it have been?
I turn on my phone's flashlight, something I should have done earlier to see Mason sprawled out on the ground next to a pair of boots he must have gone to get, clearly in pain.
I hurry to him, helping him up his feet.
"Remind me never to be left alone with you when it's dark." He deadpans, limping.
"Who's the drama queen now?" I tease, smirking.
"Just put this on so we can get going." He orders, tossing a pair of oversized boots at me, already moving deeper into the woods.
"Is there a reason you're leading me deep into the woods on a full moon, after making a Klaus Michelson impression?" I ask, becoming more conscious of my environment. All I get as an answer is an eye roll. Snobbish much.
I follow him blindly, literally I can't see a thing because someone had force me to turn my flashlight off for safety reasons.
So, I rely on holding hands with him which strangely makes me feel all giddy and warm. Giddy and warm? That's not something I thought I would ever use to describe holding hands with Mason. But hey, it's valentine after all, things happens and before you know it, you're getting your fair share of valentine's magic.................... I really need to stop bench watching rom-coms on Saturdays, it's getting to my head.
I don't need Mason to tell me we had arrived when I sight it. I withhold a gasp despite it being so beautiful.
It's an astonishing waterfall with rocks that glisters under the effect of the moon shining down on it. Everything about this whole areas feels strangely, magical, so surreal. Something off a Disney movie.
From the clear water to the beautiful green grass that makes you want to kick off your shoes just to feel them tickle under your feet. To the gentle breeze that seems to be able to clear all the bad air.
"It's breathtaking." I admit, staring in awe.
"I know." Mason agrees, I turn to see him not staring at the view but at me.
We hold each others gaze, causing my breath to hitch in response. He breaks our staring contest which seems to be happening more times than once in the past few days and leads me to one of the rocks where we sit.
"I come here to clear my head when it feels like I can't handle any more crap. I thought it would do you good." He explains, his voice shaky, making it easy to sense uncertainty.
The almighty Mason West, nervous? As much I would love to gloat over this, I let it slide, it's the least I can do after what he's done for me.
"Thanks, it really does work." I admit, a small smile appears on the corner of my lips when I hear him breathe in relieve.
"How did you find this place?" I ask.
"The day I moved out from the house, we had a bad argument and I couldn't take it anymore, I just kept walking and walking until I found myself here." He lets out.
We remain silent for a while until I break it again.
"I guess I'm gonna have to face Becky tomorrow." I say, voicing my thoughts. When I had agreed to the plan, it had seemed like a distant event and now it's something I will have to actually do in less than twenty four hours.
"Are you scared?" He asks.
Am I scared? Of Mason's dad a little, but of Becky not one bit. These few days with Mason has taught me that they're way bigger problems than highschool bull crab Like being forced into a business you want nothing to do with. Or having to move from the life you're use to because you realise it's fake at thirteen years of age.
So, no, I am not scared of her and it's about time she realises it.
"Not one bit." I declare, suppressing a yawn. It's no surprise that I feel tired. It has been one heck of a valentine's Day I don't think I'm forgetting  anytime soon and frankly I don't want to.
"Good...." Mason starts to say but I can't make out the rest due to my sleep induced state. The only part I manage to hear is a,
"Happy Valentine's Emma." I don't hold  back the yawn this time, already partially asleep but I do manage a,
"Happy Valentine's Mason." Before finally drifting up to sleep, seizing comfort by resting my head on his shoulders, inching closer to him.

(A/N): Hey!!! It's been a while, this doesn't mean I'm done with my exams, I just decided to update these chapters cos I got to writing recently.
So enjoy, I'm trying really hard to get everything all done. Bye for now 😊
