Chapter 13: Lark

I don't know these people really well, but Urban wanted me to come so I figured it'd be fine. Everything was all fun and games until Brooklyn's name came up in the topic of conversation. I listened to Marshall an Reagan for about 10 minutes until the conversation was over. I lied awake that night pondering. Tough break for Reagan, brand new relationship and he's already being pressured into doing something I could tell he didn't want to do.
I tried not to think about it too much, Reagan seems pretty cool, and I'd totally help him out if I could. We drove back to school and got there a few minutes early. We hopped out if the car, but as the others were walking in I grabbed Reagan by the shoulder and pulled him around the corner.
"Hey, you good? I was listening to the conversation last night, and I could tell that you don't want to ask her to do it. If it makes you feel any better, I hear she's ace, so she'd say no to anybody." I attempt to pay him on the shoulder and make him feel better.
"Thanks, but I don't think the guys would see it that way. I mean we've been friends for years, and I know they mean well... But I don't know how to tell them to back off. I really like Brook, and she seems great, but I don't want to break her heart because of something I don't really want." Reagan confessed.
"Well, if you ever need anything just tell me." I assured.
"Thanks. Also, what do you think about me asking book to be my real girlfriend?" Reagan questioned.
"What?"
"Long story, but as of now, all you need to know is I'm not her real boyfriend. I'm her fake boyfriend to get her away from someone. I've had a crush on her since 5th grade and I don't want to screw this up. The way we met is actually because she heard me singing a love song in the supply closet. I'm sorry, I don't know why I'm telling you all this... But I feel like I can trust you." Reagan sighed. That was a lot for one guy to handle. We were about to go back to our own business when we saw a garnet keep pass by slowly and pull in around one of the side corners of the school. We both peer around the corner and watch as Malorie and Brooklyn step out of the car and grab a tarp from out of the trunk and cover up the car, then enter a rusted and paint-chipped door. Reagan and I exchanged glances and walked over to the door. There was a small glass panel that was about 3 inches thick. We peeked in and saw both girls, a DJ set, pink fluffy carpet, and 2 blue fluffy lounge chairs. It looked like Brook was putting on some tunes while Malorie was reading a book. I darted my eyes between both girls, when suddenly Brook careened her head towards the door and we both ducked down, took a few steps back, and ran. We didn't stop until we were in school and out of sight.
"Wonder what they're doing in there?" Reagan inquired.
"Whatever it was, that room probably took some time to put together. That door was so old I think it was part of the original build. Whatever was in there was brought in recently." I conclude.
"Just glad my girl has a safe place." Reagan sighed. " I just want the best for her. She may not really be mine. But I love her till death do we part... You know?"
"Yeah." I agree. At least I think I would know... Seeing as I like her too.
