4 - The Greatest Gift of All
Kelsey waited outside Gretchen Meyer's house. The door swung open to reveal Gretchen standing at the door, a disgusted look on her face. "Oh. It's you. What do you want?"
"I was wondering if I could have that yellow stone you found at the Easter egg hunt."
Gretchen looked at her like she was joking. She said a brief no, then slammed the door in Kelsey's face. Was that it? Was it over? Kelsey started to walk back home. "Wait." Kelsey whirled around to see Gretchen standing at the door. "I need a favor. My sister is at the daycare center across the street. She needs to be picked up and I can't go because I have to take care of my cat. Do you mind getting her for me?" Kelsey thought about it. What could she do? She was helping the girl who'd always been mean to her and there was nothing that she could do about it.
So she did it. All just for an ugly yellow diamond. She helped Gretchen Meyer and Gretchen gave the stone to Kelsey. Kelsey was not happy. The diamond also got absorbed into the locket but unexpectedly, she didn't get her prize right away. About five days later, a box arrived in the mail. It said, "To: Kelsey From: Alice" Kelsey ripped open the box to find....-"Kelsey?" Kelsey looked up to see Gretchen, right there, standing in her own living room. "I, I'm sorry," she said. Kelsey's eyes got wide. "What do you mean?" she asked.
"I've always been mean to you for no reason at all. I, I guess I was just a little.... jealous. Will you forgive me?" Gretchen pleaded.
Kelsey ran up to Gretchen and hugged her. The two girls hung out that day. They had fun. And when Gretchen left? Kelsey remembered the box. She looked in, but wasn't surprised to see what was inside-nothing! Kelsey opened up the locket and scratched in the words, "Thank you!" They faded away instantly. Then Kelsey smiled at the locket. She'd gotten the best gift of them all - friendship. It was all thanks to a certain golden powdered, heart shaped, purple colored locket.
