Pinewatch saved us from needing to answer any more questions by taking me to our room. I was fairly sure Rayn would have been the only one asking questions though. Nightshade just looked like she was going to smile and laugh.

"Your bed is the one with the green blanket," Pinewatch said. There was still a hint of laughter in his voice. "I'm going to go flying. I don't know when I'll be back."

"Alright," I said, before thinking about it. "Have fun."

Pinewatch nodded, still grinning, and slipped out the door. I didn't really want him to go. But I figured it wasn't worth arguing about. I flopped onto the bed. It bounced slightly as I landed, creaking and groaning. There was no way I would be sneaking out of bed in the mornings. Wondering if Pinewatch's bed creaked too. I got up and flopped on his bed. It made a loud crack and I quickly got off, hoping I hadn't broken it.

I walked out the door, wandering aimlessly through the tunnels. I felt like I was walking in two worlds. One side seemed normal, while the other side hummed with energy in the back of my mind. I guessed the humming side was magical. I wondered if Rayn, Nightshade, and Pinewatch could sense the magic everywhere.

The magical side didn't look any different from the non-magical side. The magic hummed quietly, a pleasant buzzing inside my head. It was silent, almost, but loud in the silence of the tunnels, invisible but I could see it. It was a strange feeling, seeing something that wasn't there, and hearing something that made no sound. I confused myself just thinking about it. I wondered how I would even be able to explain it to anyone.

I stopped where two passages branched off. I realized I was at the entrance of the cave system. The "two worlds" I'd been walking through branched as well. The magic side was the tunnel that led deeper into the labyrinth of moonstone passages. The normal world was the passage that led out of the tunnels. I could choose to ask Flare to take me back the way we'd come from... or I could stay. My friends were here after all and if Pinewatch's experience was the same as mine, I'd be stuck for a while.

I paused, then stepped into the magic. The normal side instantly became magic.

Nightshade appeared from the tunnels. She stopped when she saw me and studied me silently for a second. "So... you chose the road of magic."

"Uh, that means being able to see magic right?" I asked. "Because if it does then yes."

"See magic?" Nightshade frowned. "Maybe... you might need to ask Highborn about that. I meant learning to cast spells and things like that."

"That's on the list," I said.

Nightshade nodded. "Good. I'll catch you later and teach you some easy things." She dipped her head to me and slipped by.

I realized I could sense her mind as she walked away. There was another person coming toward me. Somehow, I knew it was Pinewatch. I chose to pretend I didn't notice.

"BOO!" Pinewatch said leaping forward and knocking me over.

I laughed as we hit the floor. I couldn't help myself. Pinewatch sat on top of me with a huge grin on his face.

"Did I startle you?" he asked. "It didn't look like I did."

"Nope, you didn't," I said. "Would you mind getting off please? I'm a little squished."

Pinewatch laughed a stood up. "I see that you have learned a few things about sensing people coming." It wasn't a question so much as a statement.

"Can you see magic?" I asked, bouncing to my feet. "Nightshade said that you might."

"See magic?" Pinewatch thought about that. "No... well... yes actually, in a way, but I have to focus. What you're talking about is Magesight. Some people can do it instinctively, but most can't. I can just feel the minds of people all the time."

I didn't ask what Magesight was, but I assumed it was being able to see the magic everywhere. Pinewatch lead me through the tunnels. But I didn't know if we were wandering or if Pinewatch knew where we were going. I was about to ask when Pinewatch spoke.

"I'm hungry, how about you?" Pinewatch said.

"Yes," I said, not realizing how hungry I was until he'd said something. "I'm starving."

Pinewatch laughed and we made our way to the dining hall I'd noticed when I'd been walking with Rayn. It was a longer walk then I had expected. I had walked much farther than I thought I did when I was just wandering around. I looked at the magic the whole way to the dining hall.

When we got there some of the people closest to the entrance looked over at us. They whispered to one another. I touched a string of magic drifting by my head just to see what happened. I heard one of the people say, "I heard that the one next to Highborn has been named as Highborn as well." I removed my hand from the string. Magicless me listening to whispers through magic. Who'd have thought. I didn't even know much about magic until I came to Enzarna and now I was doing things by accident.

Pinewatch lead me to the kitchen, where the cooks prepared the food for dinner. They all stopped what they were doing and bowed as we entered. The kitchen smelled really yummy. My stomach grumbled.

"Could you get us some food please?" Pinewatch asked.

The cooks nodded vigorously. "Yes Highborn, right away Highborn."

"Will I get that much attention?" I whispered to Pinewatch.

"It's highly likely," he said.

"Great," I said, sarcastically. "But we could both have fun with it."

Pinewatch glanced at me curiously, then he grinned when he realized what I meant. "Yeah we could."

One of the cooks came forward holding two plates. She gave one to Pinewatch and one to me.

"Thank you Kharjo," Pinewatch said bowing his head.

Kharjo bowed with a smirk on her face. "You're welcome, Highborn." Before Pinewatch could respond, she returned to her work.

Pinewatch rolled his eyes, but he had an odd expression on his face. He led me back into the dining hall and sat near the head of the table. Rayn and Nightshade came in not long after we sat. They disappeared into the kitchen and came out a moment later holding plates. Rayn sat at the head of the table and nodded to Pinewatch. Nightshade sat across the table from me. It looked like she had forgiven me for not listening to her because she smiled.

Rayn stood and all conversation stopped. Rayn waited for a little longer. Pinewatch didn't take any notice of Rayn and continued eating. Rayn shot him a disapproving look but didn't say anything. Some people watched Pinewatch, not Rayn, even though Rayn was clearly the one who was going to be talking.

"Welcome everyone!" Rayn said. "As you may have noticed Pinewatch has someone following him."

Pinewatch snorted. "Mage is only following me because I told him to," he muttered. Rayn glared and several people laughed even though they hadn't heard what Pinewatch had said.

"Anyway," Rayn continued. "That person is Magefalcon. He followed Nightshade here. He has joined our group and is also a Highborn. If he so wishes, he can choose a new name."

Everyone looked at me.

I took a deep breath. "Magefalcon," I said. "I would keep my name the same." Everyone started whispering. I didn't know why they were whispering, again.

Rayn didn't say anything for a long time. "Magefalcon," Rayn said. "Welcome to the Draco Legacy."

Everyone got up went to leave, but they all turned around at the doorway to look at me, Pinewatch, Nightshade, and Rayn for a minute. When all of the people left Rayn looked at me. I couldn't tell what he was thinking.

Nightshade grinned. "Well which of you will come to the name Highborn?"

Pinewatch looked at me and grinned. I gave him a thumbs up and grinned back.

"We both will," I said.

Pinewatch and I both laughed. Nightshade gave us both a small, grudging smile.

"You'll have to start calling me Pinewatch," Pinewatch said. "And I'll need to start calling Mage, Magefalcon. That name isn't much longer than your first one."

Rayn frowned, but said nothing. This time, I could tell there was something on his mind. Something that he wasn't telling anyone.
