Chapter 9: Baseball

Tsuna looked at the silver baseball bat in his hand.

He swung it at 300 mph, and it suddenly turned into a sword--an Anti-Sensei one; the brunet smiled fondly at it.

"Looks like it works..."

Tsuna had created the sword that Takeshi once used before he got an actual katana from Tsuyoshi.

Reborn gave the katana-bat to the ravenet before even Mukuro appeared.

Tsuna sighed softly at the memories as the katana slowly turned back into a bat.

The brunet had actually seen Sugino playing with a baseball from time to time.

And since the boy wanted to assassinate Koro-Sensei...Tsuna thought it would be an interesting present for the boy.

~~

"Ts-Tsuna-Sensei...what's with the bat?"

Everyone stared at the brunet with caution.

Even if his right hand was injured, he could be equally dangerous with his left hand.

Ryoma found out a day after the Itona Incident; he thought that Tsuna was right-handed.

Turns out that the brunet could be ambidextrous--Tsuna hit Ryoma with another piece of chalk with his left hand from across the room when he found out that Ryoma was bullying again.

That was another reason why the class was a bit more wary of him--'the Chalk of Justice'.

The students called it that for fun.

But now...Tsuna had a bat.

He could already possibly knock an average person out with a piece of chalk--what could he do with a baseball bat?

Tsuna continued to smile before walking up to Sugino, who gulped audibly.

It was currently a break period, and everyone was wandering the hallways.

'Eeeeeh!?  Nani!?  What have I done to deserve this!?  Could it be for eating his coffee hard candies when he wasn't looking!?  Or--!'

"Sugino-kun~!"

The dark-haired bluenette closed his eyes and waited for impact.

After a few seconds of nothing, the teen slowly opened his eyes and blinked in surprise at the silver bat in front of him.

Tsuna smiled brightly.

"I don't really know when your birthday is, but I saw that you liked baseball."

The bluenette picked the bat up from the brunet's hands and stared at it with amazement.

"Wow!"

He did a few practice swings.

"It has the perfect weight in swings, but..."

Sugino looked at the ground, flushing slightly out of shame; Tsuna raised an eyebrow.

"'But'?"

"I'm no good--"

Flick.

"Ittei!"

Sugino held his forehead with one hand, looking at the brunet with bewilderment.

Tsuna had a disapproving look on his face.

"So?  Then take a break if you have to--never overwork yourself when you're trying to get better at something."  'If you do...you might break your arm...'

Tsuna's eyes grew slightly distant at the thought; Sugino, with his hitman-like eyes, saw this and blinked with confusion and concern.

"Tsuna-Sensei...?"

That snapped the brunet out of his thoughts; Tsuna gave a small smile to the other as he walked away.

"Take care, Sugino-kun.  Oh, and you'll find another small present if you manage to swing the bat at 300 mph." The brunet grinned. "You can use it against Koro-Sensei if you want."

Sugino blinked in surprise and looked back at the bat in his hands; everyone else in the hallway pretty much went on their own to do whatever they want.

~~

"Ara~?  Sugino-kun, where did you get that bat?"

"I got it from Tsuna-Sensei, Koro-Sensei!  Get out here so I can kill you!"

The yellow octopus chuckled and quickly darted outside.

"Oh~?  And what can you do with that bat when I can go at 20 mach?"

Sugino pouted slightly; Nagisa and Karma were on the side.

"You don't know if you try!  And Tsuna-Sensei said I could use it against you!"

That perked Nagisa's interests, including Koro-Sensei's and Karma's.

Sugino readied his bat as Koro-Sensei chuckled.

"Then I'll stand here for one second to give you a chance, Sugino-kun."

The dark-haired bluenette narrowed his eyes before charging quickly at the octopus; he aimed for a limb and brought the bat down at 300 mph.

Slash!

Nagisa and Karma widened their eyes.

Koro-Sensei blinked in surprise, including Sugino.

But they weren't looking at Koro-Sensei's decapitated arm.

They were looking at...Sugino's bat turned into a katana.

Silence...

"EEEEEEEH/NYGUUOOOOH!?"

Sugino shook off his stupor and quickly tried to swing the katana at Koro-Sensei, but the octopus swiftly distanced himself, regenerating his limbs.

Even though there was some disappointment in his failure, Sugino looked at the Anti-Sensei katana in his hand.

"Awesome..."

He gazed at it with awe.

Koro-Sensei edged a bit closer and looked at it with curiosity.

"A katana disguised as a bat?  Interesting..." His beady, black eyes gazed into Sugino's cerulean ones. "And Tsuna-kun gave it to you?"

"Hai!"

Koro-Sensei placed a tentacle under his chin as he started to dodge the various swings from Sugino; he thought about the brunet.

'With this...does it make Tsuna-kun an assassin?  Is he after me?'

The octopus sighed as he continued to dodge Sugino.

~~

Tsuna yawned into his hand as he walked towards his ho--

"Haha!  Let's just let him join."

"Bu-But he's Dame-Tsuna!  We'll lose!"

The brunet froze and his usual smile dropped.

A breeze blew by.

"Hahaha!  'Mafia'?  Is that a game?  Let me join!"

Tsuna staggered over to a tree and placed a hand on it to support himself.

"Maa, maa!  Everyone calm down!"

A tear fell to the ground below.

"Yo, kid, Tsuna!"

Tsuna slowly sunk to the ground.

"N-Neh....gomen, Tsuna......I-I don't th...ink....I'll m-make it..."

"You will, Takeshi!  You will!  J-Just stop talking!  I can heal you!"

An adult ravenet chuckled weakly as he raised a bloody hand to ruffle Tsuna's hair.

"Hey.....th...en....let's play...some....baseball..like...we used to...."

Takeshi dropped his hand as his breathing became shallower.

"Don't cry....I'm your...Rain.  So...I wash...away...your.....sorr...ows...."

His breathing stopped all together.

The rain never felt colder.

"Tsuna-Sensei!  Tsuna-Sensei!  Oh my gosh!  Nagisa, Karma!  Help me out!"

The brunet dazedly blinked his eyes as he saw a blurred out face in front of him.

"..Ta...keshi...-kun...?"

<<(At a Hospital a Few Towns Away)>>

Hazel eyes slowly opened.

'Eh?  I thought I died with Tsuna trying to heal me.....TSUNA!'

An adult ravenet bolted upwards before groaning; a nurse passed by and gasped.

She quickly entered the man's room.

"Yamamoto-san!  Please lie down!"

His hazel eyes burned determinedly.

"I need to find my friend!  Please let me go!"

"Yamamoto-san!  You just woke up from a coma!  Please, you fell from a cliff a few months back!  You need rest!"

The ravenet gripped the hospital bed sheets as the nurse fretted.

"Please...we'll try to release you as soon as possible...I don't want to knock you out."

There was a tense silence before the man sighed.

"...Okay..."

The nurse sighed with relief as she poked her head out of the room, telling another nurse to get a doctor.

The ravenet gazed out of his window.

"...Attendere per me, il mio Cielo." (Wait for me, my Sky.)

<<(Back with Tsuna)>>

"What happened?"

Koro-Sensei dabbed a cold towel onto Tsuna's hot forehead as he looked at the three students on the side.

Sugino was still holding onto the bat.

"Well...I wanted to thank Tsuna-Sensei.  And Nagisa and Karma were also going to see him because they thought something was off with him..."

Koro-Sensei turned his gaze to the other two students.

"'Something off'?"

Nagisa fidgeted.

"Tsuna-Sensei looked a bit feverish near the end of the day.  I thought he was sick...and it turns out that I was right..."

Karma shrugged.

"I was also concerned."

Koro-Sensei sighed before looking back at Tsuna, who was breathing harshly.

"Such a high fever..."

The students looked at their brown-haired teacher with worry.

The sun slowly set outside.
