~Nobody's POV
Nash was busy crying in his hands while his parents were trying to comfort him. "I... was so scared," Nash muttered out.
Natsu grabbing the sheets tightly, knowing that whispering some words won't do any good now. He wanted to have him in his arms, but he knew that was one thing he didn't yearn for right now.
The parents took a step back. Natsu and Lucy looked at him, their lips in a tight line when they saw Nash was trying to stop crying.
As if he doesn't want them to see him cry.
Like he was responsible for his feelings and that he had to do something about them.
"Nash, you don't have to prove anything," Lucy said, her voice stuck in her throat.
He looked away, biting his lip, trying so hard to stop the tears. "Please leave," he whispered, barely audible.
Natsu and Lucy looked at each other, an upset look plastering on their faces. "We can't, Nash. You're our son, we're not going to leave you right now," Natsu answered.
Nash brought up his knees and put his arms around his knees. "Please," he said, crying and begging for them to leave.
Lucy walked to him and bent down, "But we are here for you.. we want to help you," Lucy whispered softly. What she didn't know was that had the opposite effect.
Nash doesn't want to look so helpless in front of his parents - who are in his eyes the strongest people.
"Please!" he said, raising his voice a little. He wanted to be alone so bad. Big tears flowing down.
Lucy shrunk on her knees. "Please don't deny our help," she said, crying loudly.
Natsu was looking at the two people in front if him. Trying to figure out why Nash was acting this way.
Then Natsu remembered the tiny things Nash said to him once.
I will make you proud, belief me.
I want to be just like you, powerful and kind.
You know the funny thing, dad? In so many people's eyes you are a monster to them. I guess I'm the child of a monster then, so cool!
Natsu faced palmed when he remembered what he, himself, once said to Nash.
Don't cry about stupid things. It makes you look weak.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, Natsu said in his head. Why do I have to be such a shitty parent?
Nash pushed away the arms of his mother, "I'm fine," he told her.
Natsu clicked his tongue. This time he stepped forward, next to Lucy.
"No, you're not. You can cry all you want," Natsu said gently. Nash wildly shook his head.
"No, I can't! You said that is a sign of weakness."
Lucy glared at Natsu, of course he had to say something like that. Natsu tried to reach out for his son's hair but stopped before he touched it. Fuck, physical boundaries are hell.
"I said 'don't cry about something stupid.' You have the fucking right to cry. What you went through isn't stupid. I would have cried myself a river."
Nash lashed forward and cried into his shirt, making it wet but Natsu didn't care, overall relieved he didn't reject his touch.
Without noticing Lucy stood up and walked to the cupboard on the other side of the room.
She grabbed a cup and poured water in it. She placed it on the nightstand.
"Can you please leave? I need time to progress all of this," Nash pleaded.
Natsu wiped away his tears. "You promise me you'd be here for dinner?"
Lucy smacked his back. "No way we are leaving Nash."
Natsu looked at Nash and kissed his forehead. "You're the strongest one I know." He dragged Lucy out of the room. "Nash needs time," he whispered to Lucy. Lucy frowned, normally he agreed with her.
"Yes, but he also needs support."
"Belief me, I know how he feels," Natsu tried to persue her. Lucy glared at him. "I was the one for him when he cried. You were always busy working or you just looked. I spent the most time with him," she said, crying. She was too emotional to think straight now.
Natsu's eyes hardened. "Did you want me to work less?"
Yes, we all know someone needs to make the money in the household.
She lightly slapped him on the chest, "You don't get the point. How should you know what he feels right now when you honestly don't know him that well." Lucy was saying nonsense. She swung her arms in every direction.
Natsu caught both her arms. "He is also my son. Yes, yes I agree I didn't spend much time with Nash, but he has my blood. I know what he is going through because I had to go through the same thing!"
Lucy looked at him, mouth open. But before she could speak Natsu spoke, "Well, not exactly the same. I just went through something similair. Nash doesn't want our support now. He will think he's helpless and cry more. Please, just till supper."
But he couldn't do nothing. Fuck.
Lucy sighed after a while. Her mouth was in a tight line, "Fine."
They walked into the room again and came by Nash's side. Lucy gave him a weak smile, "We'll leave you.. for now. Until supper comes. But Nash, remember, we are here to stay."
Natsu stared at him with a poker-face.
"Who are you?" he demanded suddenly, making Nash flinch at the booming voice.
"I- I-"
"Look at me and answer," he told him harshly, as if it were just a defense lesson. "Who are you?"
Lucy looked at him as if he had grown two heads. What the fuck was wrong with him?
"I'm," Nash began as he took a deep breath. He regarded his father's stern eyes with every bit of caution. "I'm Nash Dragneel."
He was still not satisfied and glared. "Who are you?"
Nash took a breath. "I'm the heir of Fairy Tail." His mind was spinning in every direction of what his father would want him to say.
Natsu stood tall, glowering over his son as Lucy was trying to pull him back. She didn't succeed, not even close. "No," he snarled, making Nash flinch.
"You're my soldier," he said with a low voice. Nash's whole posture tensed up at that moment. "My soldiers are loyal, brave and fight for whatever their heart desires." He grabbed his smaller hand, gripping it tightly and placing it against his son's chest.
"Right now, you need to be your own soldier. Fight your battles. Heal. Nobody needs a useless fighter. You're my son, my greatest pride. Fucking own it."
Lucy's efforts to pull him back weakened after Natsu's talking. Nash ears teared up again, but he held his head high. Finally. Some other emotion than fear and misery.
A certain eagerness. Some sort of promise which made Natsu's eyes gleam. "Leave."
The moment they closed the door they could hear him crying. They stood by the door as they listened.
Lucy wanted to go in again, but Natsu blocked her. Even then, behind the door, they could hear how he wanted to just let it all out.
Natsu leaned against the wall next to the door while looking up to the ceiling. "I'm going to skin him alive," was all he said before walking away. Lucy looked at his retreating back.
Lucy placed her hand on the door. She didn't want to leave, but staying wasn't good either.
"Damn, why don't these tears go away?" she heard Nash mutter.
She turned around and her back leaned against the door.
She was biting her lip, imagining what Nash went through. Droplets of tears fell on the ground.
Lucy could hear him sob.
Nash eventually came out of his bed, hissing when he moved around.
~Nash's POV
I heard their conversation outside the room. I still couldn't believe it.
Dad went through the same thing, or something that looks like it. That makes me feel slightly better. He recovered, clearly.
So if he can, then I can too. Own it.
I drank the cup of water. I looked around the room, it was dark.
I put on all the lights. I had to move for that, but it was worth it.
I don't want to see darkness ever again.
My crying stopped, but now I felt cold. I don't know how I can progress all of this. It is just.. too much.
I'm in my own world without someone else being here. Everyone here is there for me, yet still it feels like I'm alone. I couldn't describe this.
I went to the attached bathroom and splashed my face with water.
I looked in the mirror and lifted up my shirt. I became horrified at the sight of the many scars and bruises. The bandages were around my arms, legs and a part if my chest.
Rememer when I said my crying stopped?
I lied.
They were flowing again. It feels like I'm experiencing every second of the torture again when looking at the scars.
But my mind is a traitor and won't let me not look at it. I slowly touched the place were my bandages were.
I slowly sunk to my knees.
I can't do this.
Everything reminds me of those men.
Everything.
Even my parents. They were there when a man wanted to shoot me. I saw their faces.
Everytime I looked at them I see it again. Their faces full of fear and anger. I can't ever forget how much he hurt my parents.
Why does it feel like I'm so alone?!
I hit my head with my own fist. "Stop it, stop it," I whispered repeatingly. These thoughts are slowly pulling me back to a numbfull state.
I took a deep breath. "Think about..." I cracked down as my voice broke. "Happy memories only," I said while sobbing. Happy? When was I happy again?
Then suddenly, a flashback of me and Reiki came into my vision.
Flashback Nash's POV
"Hey, Reiki! Where are you going?" I asked. Reiki was running towards a hallway when he turned around and walked to me.
"I wanted to say hey to my parents, but I guess that can wait," he said while sticking his hands in his pocket. He gave me a small smile.
He eventually stood next to me and elbowed me. "So... let's play soccer?" he began and then carefully looked around, "In our spot."
I nodded. We had a secret spot in the basement where we'd play soccer. I'm pretty sure it wasn't allowed though. But hey, in my defense, there is nothing in the room.
As two little kids, what we are, we ran towards the room.
This was our spot.
Our safety spot. Our good to go spot.
We made two goals and beside the playfield we had two beanbags lying. Then a closet with food. Stolen food, hehe.
I sure took over some things from my dad.
"I'm going to win this time," Reiki said.
I grinned. "You wish."
We played one on one, of course. We had cotton figures placed as the keeper on each side.
After a while we laid on the ground, sort of next to each other. Both panting. "I win," I breathed out.
I could hear Reiki scoff, "By one point."
What a sore loser...
Then we turned our heads and looked at each other, a big smile on our face and we laughed.
"Auntie Erza gave me a smack on the face when I tried to play with my food. I still wonder how you can keep up with Erza. She's so scary," I said while shivers crawled on my body.
Reiki laughed. "She's my mother, simple as that. And who knows, maybe in the future I will be just as scary as her."
I snorted. "Yeah yeah."
He playfully gave me a push.
"Hey Nash, we will be friends forever, right?"
I rolled my eyes but couldn't hide my smile. I pushed him by the shoulder. "Of course, you dummy."
I couldn't help but then playfully said, "Unless you will become the monster your mother is."
Reiki knew that was a joke and shook his head, chuckling.
Reiki suddenly sat up, his legs crossed. I pushed my upperbody up too.
"Then promise me," he began. I raised my eyebrow.
"That whatever happens, we will conquer it and continue being friends," he said while grinning.
A big smile came om my face.
"Promise."
