Mia Lake
Amelia sits across from me at the milkS. Where we once used to work together. Now it's just me.
She stirs her strawberry milkshake, as I take a sip of my banana shake.
I have to pretend like everything is normal, like last night didn't happen. She would be devastated if me and Alex had something going on.
Dating siblings is a big no-no in friendships. And even worse he's in the mafia. Amelia wants me to stay as far away from that as possible. It'll hurt me.
"Tell me everything! You have the same clothes as last night? Where were you?" She says giving me a playful smirk.
Great, how do I tell her I was just helping her brother home, then ended up in his bed.
"It's nothing really." I say shrugging it off.
"Are you lying to your best friend Mia!" She says sarcastically.
She's always been the curious one.
I laugh nervously. "It's just someone I've met a few times, alright. It's nothing serious." I say not mentioning his name.
She raises an eyebrow. "So who is this mysterious man?" She asks pushing me to tell. If it was anyone else I would've told her, I tell her everything. She's been there through everything, always supporting me. But this time I'm afraid she's not going to be as supportive.
I open my mouth but nothing comes out. She leans back in her chair, crossing her arms. "You know speaking of mysterious men, I've been thinking about Alex lately." She says thinking.
My heart stumbles and I try to keep my face neutral. "Oh?" I ask, my voice careful.
She shrugs. "Yeah, he's been acting weird recently. I mean, he's always a little closed off, but something's up with him. I hope it's not Cassandra again." She says almost talking to herself.
My stomach twists. Cassandra? Who the fuck is that? And why am I bothered by it?
"Cassandra?" I ask.
"His first, real love. I've never seen him like that, so...in love. After seeing him for these past weeks, I think he might still have feelings for her."
I feel like the air has been sucked out of the room. "Still?" I ask.
"I'm not sure. He doesn't talk about it much, but I can tell, he's hiding something." She says. "Have you talked to him this week? I mean...You two have been hanging out more than we have."
I bite the inside of my lip, panicking. "No...oh, me and Alex, hanging out? Your brother is a pain in my ass, only time we hang out is when we plan something for you." I say lying. We have definitely been seeing each other in other ways.
"You two have been like this since the beginning." Amelia says laughing. "Never change that, I love when you two fight like siblings. He's like a big brother to you."
Well...damn.
"Right. A very annoying brother." I say drinking up my milkshake. God this is going terribly wrong.
"My brother is your brother, we're family Mia. You've always been like a sister to me." She says holding my hand gently. I give her a genuine smile.
"Thank you."
"Oh, also, are you coming to the party tonight?" Amelia asks, hoping I'll say yes. I've never been the one to turn down a party.
"Of course I'll come."
"Great, I'll tell Alex to pick you up."
"No. You don't have to do that. I'll go there myself..." I say trying to stop her from calling him, but she's already pressed his number.

Alexander Gonzales.
I stand outside Mia's apartment, waiting by my car. My eyes glued to the front door. When she finally steps out, I bite back a grin. Baggy jeans and a tight top. Her hair pulled back in a slick pony.
"Really? That's what you're wearing to a party?" I tease just to annoy her. I love it when she snaps back at me.
But today she shoots me a playful glare. Walking closer, closing the distance between us. "You don't like it?"
Of course I like it. I like everything she does.
"It's not my style. But you're not my type anyway." I say obviously lying.
She's more. She's everything.
But after what I did last night, sleeping in bed with her? Gosh what was I thinking? I shouldn't have went to her when I was drunk.
She narrows her eyes at me, like she's challenging me. "Oh really? Hold that thought." She says before running back inside. The door swinging shut.
Five minutes later she steps out again. This time my mind goes blank.
Gone were the baggy jeans. Instead she's wearing a tight fitted dress that hugs her every curve. The neckline plunged just enough to catch my attention. My mouth goes dry, my smile fading. She's stunning, undeniably so.
"Are you...blushing Gonzales?" She teases, a smirk playing at the corners of her lips. She steps closer, her fingers brushing my chest, suddenly this is all overwhelming. Before I can react she presses me back, pinning me to the car. God.
"I thought I wasn't your type?" She says, her voice low and teasing. If I could just taste those lips that I can't look away from.
Fuck.
She knows exactly what she's doing. And it's working.
She steps back, and walks to the other side of the car. I follow her with my gaze. Her hips swaying deliberately.
Damn.
I swallow hard, trying to get it together. We get in the car and as I drive off she fixes her dress. Making it sit better on her body, if that's even possible. She's perfect. In every way.
Shit Alex. I've got to stop. I'm particularly drooling all over her.
"Maybe it's too revealing. I was feeling too bold back home." She says covering her chest area with her arms.
"It's fine, Lake. I know how to fight." I say, and when I turn to her, I see a small smile. Her eyes flicking over me like it was some kind of test I passed.

I spot her from across the yard, standing on the backside of the house. Talking to some guy. My chest tightens immediately. I noticed him lurking around her earlier but I didn't think much of it. Now, seeing them alone, something changes. It's clear that he wants Mia. The way he's looking at her, it's wrong. And why isn't she pushing him away? She has a boyfriend.
I move closer keeping close to the shadows. I hear parts of their conversation as I move forward. It's just enough to make my blood boil.
"You're wearing something like that, what did you expect?" The guy sneers. "I mean, you look like your begging for attention." He adds.
What the fuck did he just say to my Mia?
I stop in my tracks, my fists clenching at my sides. Fire shoots up my spine. That comment, that disgusting piece of shit.
It's like a switch flips in me. Mia stands there unbothered, rolling her eyes at the boy. He moves closer to her and she takes a step back, clearly not wanting to be near him.
Without thinking I storm across the yard, my steps heavy, my jaw locked so tight it hurts.
"What the hell did you just say to her?" I snap. Barley I recognise myself.
The boy looks up surprised, but before he can react I'm already in his face. My hand shoots out, grabbing him by the collar, and slam him against the wall with a force I didn't know I was capable of.
"Say that again." I snarl, my voice barley controlled. "I dare you." I add.
"Hey, it's fine, Alex." Mia says placing a gentle hand on my shoulder. Trying to calm me down.
I tighten my grip. "Apologise to her." I demand my voice rough. "Now."
He gasps, not able to speak, but he manages to choke out. "S...sorry. I'm sorry, okay?"
I let go and he gasps for air. "You ever talk to her like that again, you won't get of that easy. Got it?" I say grabbing Mia by the hand.
He nods, his eyes wide with fear.
"Are you guys fine!" Amelia's voice cuts through. She's running toward us and Mia yanks her hand away from mine. Keeping distance.
"Yes...yes we're fine. This guy was just bothering me and Alex happened to be here in time." Mia says to her friend.
Amelia hugs Mia. "I'm so glad you're okay."
"Alex you're a hero." Amelia says to me and I give her a nod.
Amelia takes Mia with her as they head back inside. And all I can do is watch.
Someone's jealous...
I literally love this story guys, hope you're ready for what's to come next!
