A Court of Mist and Fury
Six books...six books? I was emotionally prepared for three, but six? This is gonna be a long five more years.
So, was that last chapter painful? You have no idea how hard it was to write without saying something "toolish" about...well, you know who.
I'm going to give you a bit of background before diving into Mist and Fury. This was another book that sat on the shelves for a long time before I finally decided it was worth reading. Hey, hear me out before screaming, WHAT DO YOU MEAN? I'm one of those people that reads into all the foreshadowing, catches all the hints, and figures they know what the author is planning. Thank goodness I was mostly wrong, mostly but not entirely.
I liked ACOTAR, and yes, I liked Tamlin too. Looking back, I was really blinded by the idea that Feyre needed to find her true love right away in book one so I never saw past that. Now I can see, on my many rereads, that Tamlin was never the right one for her. Obviously.
However, I shipped them hard in the beginning. I did realize quickly that her bargain with Rhys would open up the possibility of a romance with him as well. And I figured we would continue to learn that he really wasn't a bad guy. I just knew that she would fall for him. And that freaked me out because I thought there would be more of a love triangle and we would be dragged along as poor Tamlin was suffering every time Feyre went back to the night court.
Are you laughing?
Poor Tamlin, my ass.
I'm so glad that we are shown without a doubt almost from the very start that Tamlin is acting foolish. More than foolish, actually, he is awful. And blind. And selfish, and controlling and just the biggest douche in all of Prythian. I wondered what the hell Rhys was waiting for during those first three months.
And then he shows up at the wedding all, "Hello Feyre, darling"
Loved it! The way things unfolded between them was perfect. And that he continued to put himself out there to help her just...oh my heart people! Rhys is my smol baby bat, y'all, am I right?
The winnowed letters back and forth. When he shows up and Feyre had obviously been sleeping with Tamlin (ewww). Teaching her to read! Taking her to Velaris. And who doesn't wish they could be there...right now!!
Can I tell you that I was so glad our favorite high fantasy author chose to ease Feyre into the idea of loving Rhys rather than have her humor him right away. The hints were there that he was most definitely interested, even though Feyre brushed them off as his ego.
I was anxious for her to tell him how she was feeling, as he was obviously waiting for her to give him a sign she was ready. The fact that she felt uncomfortable "bed hopping" as SJM put it, helped me transition as well. Not because I wanted her with Tamlin anymore, but because it was too close in time to when she did have a relationship with him. She needed to work through that first.
Poor Rhys, hearing that she wanted him as a distraction, when she was finally able to admit her desire for him.
And then...the suriel dropping the mate bomb without her even being at all curious...
And I bet you're thinking right now...omg I wanna talk about chapter 55, you know, the house of Mist. But nope, that whole thing is gonna be another chapter which leads up to the ending of ACOMAF and includes fan theories about ACOWAR... so, see ya next time! Bring your paint brushes, right??
Talk to us!! Save the last portion of the book for next time, but tell us how you felt about Tamlins controlling ways, Rhys showing up at the wedding, her time in the Night Court... I haven't even touched the inner circle yet either! Holy moly I need a whole chapter just for them!! What about the court of nightmares and the visit there?? This book was packed!
And I leave you with Rhys eye candy... because Rhys. That's the only reason you need. I think this guy is perfect, how about you?
