Ch.1 Burn it to the ground!

Catalina's woke up as the smell of smoke filled her little nose. She looked towards her window. It was still dark outside. She looked over to her six year old sister Amala's bed. It was empty. She crawled out of bed and toddled over to the open door.

A scream split the air, followed by the sounds of vicious snarls and ripping flesh. The dark sky was soon lit by flames.

"Burn it all to the ground! Leave no one alive! I want this whole cursed pack obliterated!"

"Yes, Luna," the beta answered, without hesitation.

Catalina's little legs carried her down the hall to her parents' room. This door was also open. She continued into the room, going to the bed, which was also empty. Her tiny feet crunched over broken glass that bit into her feet, causing her to leave a bloody tail behind her as she moved to the window and looked out.

There were ugly blood-soaked war forms everywhere. They looked like what most people thought werewolves looked like, half person half wolf. They stood on hind legs, long arms with huge claws, their noses more like a wolfs snout with huge yellow fangs. They looked like something from a nightmare.

Wolves were being ripped apart, homes searched, women and children pulled from their beds and slaughtered. As she watched, her mother was pulled forward by a hand buried in her hair. A hand on her shoulder startled her. It was her twelve year old brother Edmond. He pulled her away from the window, down the hall, and quietly out the back door.

"Come on, Cat, we have to hide."

She shook her head, her blonde curls bouncing against her cheeks as she did. He picked her up and ran towards the trees that weren't far from their house. Their house sat near the edge of the packs village.

He fumbled in the dark until he found a tree with a little hollow in the bottom they used sometimes for hide and seek and pushed her into it. He put a finger to his lips, telling her to be quiet. Then he turned and walked back towards the house.

Catalina wrapped her arms around herself and waited. She waited for someone to come back for her. She couldn't see anything from where she was, but she could hear everything, and she could feel the heat of the many fires. She just closed her eyes and tried to block it all out as she waited.

Edmond passed body after body of wolves he'd known his whole life as he headed for where he'd last seen his mother. When he made it there, he hid in the shadows of a house and watched.

"I hope you know you brought this upon them, Laura. This is all your fault, and now you will pay for it, you all will," the Luna said with menace.

The beta yanked Laura's head back, easily exposing her throat for his Luna to have better access to do what she wanted. The Luna drew her hand back to slash at Laura's neck, but a male wolf suddenly spang at her. She quickly darted back out of his reach. The beta slung Laura to the ground. Her head bounced off a rock, and she lost consciousness.

Edmond ran to his mother then and kneeled beside her. He shook her, trying to wake her, but she didn't wake. He lifted her head, and blood coated his fingers. He tried dragging her away, but he wasn't strong enough.

He transformed into a wolf, grabbed her by her shirt, and tried pulling her, but it just ripped the shirt to shreds. He didn't know what else to do. He stood over her guarding her and snapping at anyone that came near.

Edmond watched with horror as the beta's claws dug into his father's stomach, ripping it open. His father fell to the ground, dying. He snarled as the beta came towards him now.

He knew he didn't stand a chance, but he couldn't just leave his mother. All it took was one swipe of the beta's war form claws to snap the pups neck. His last thoughts were of his sister, hopefully still hidden safely in the tree.

The boy dead, the Luna morphed down into a wolf. She clamped her jaws down on his mother's throat, soaking the ground with yet more blood. Then her job finally fished she was upright back in human form.

"Is that all of them? The whole family?"

"Yes, Luna," the beta answered, in awe of his blood thirsty Luna.

"Check and recheck the rest of the village and check the surrounding wood. Make sure everyone is dead," she said, wiping blood from her mouth with the back of her hand.

"Yes, Lu-," the Alphas call cut the beta off.

He nodded to his Luna and answered the call.

"We have runners," the alpha told the beta when he arrived.

"Hunt them down," the alpha growled at him.

"Yes, alpha," he answered, then he and six others ran off, following a scent into the trees.

The alpha walked through the village in wolf form. He was delighted with the chaos around him, and it would please his Luna, greatly he knew.

He watched as a war form tore another in two. The blood splattered his muzzle, and he licked it clean before continuing his treck through the houses looking for any survivors.

The beta and his warriors came across four wolves in the woods, three males and a female. They'd make quick work of them, he thought, grinning.

He nodded to his warriors, and they sprang forward, catching the runners by suprise. The first one died quickly as one warrior grabbed him by the hind leg, and the other crushed his throat. Another went down, one pinning him as another sliced his belly. The beta circled the female as he heard cries of anguish from the third as he was claimed in death.

She shifted into war form, and he followed suit. She took a swipe at him, barely knicking his cheek with a claw. He swiped at her, and she dodged it quickly. She spun and kicked him in the chest, knocking him back a few steps, but he caught her foot.

She yanked, trying to get it free, to no avail. She spun again, allowing her ankle to be broken in order to free her leg from his grasp. He went for her throat with his claws she tried to dodge but fell as she put too much weight on her bad ankle.

One of his warriors still in wolf form took her throat in his teeth. He looked to the beta for permission. The beta nodded. The warrior clamped down, blood coated his tongue and teeth, and shot down his throat.

"That's all of them. Let's head back," the beta said, shifting back to human form and starting towards the village.

"It really is a shame when we have to kill females. They have so much more in them than males do. Unfortunately, they don't have the strength to back up the courage. That one, for example, gave us twice the fight the other three did," the warrior said.

The beta nodded, "I agree, if all males had the viciousness of females, war would be a lot more interesting."

The village was almost nothing but ash when the beta returned. He saw the rest of the pack waiting on a nearby hill for their return. He and his warriors joined them. They shifted to wolf form and fell in line.

The alpha gave a victorious howl, the Luna joined him, then the pack. The alpha lowered his head and started towards home. The silvery pelt of the Luna and the black pelt of the beta fell in beside him, and the pack started their long run back.
