THE LOW, A JACK HARLOW FIC.
CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR.
BEGIN.
"I'm Jack. Her boyfriend." Jack said to Trey as he extended an open palm for him to shake. Jack stared at it before finally shaking it. "I mean I'm her boyfriend for now, hopefully I'm getting a promotion to husband soon." Solana scoffed and then laughed at Jacks ego. She missed it.
He smiled brightly at her giving her the sense to calm down in front of her ex. He stared into her eyes and for a moment it went quiet. Like it was just them there. Until Trey interrupted, Solana could see a look in Jacks eyes whenever he spoke. As if he were reminded of his existence and pained by it.
Same Jack. Same.
Trey smiled anyways, ignoring the glare from Jack and turning to Solána. He was almost Jacks height but not exactly and his hair was shorter, cut down to a buzz. Trey stared at her as she waited to feel those same butterflies she used to.
She didn't though. She didn't feel anything but disgust and maybe the urge to knee a small spot between his legs. "So what do you say?" Trey asked as she snapped out of her magnetic thoughts. Think about what? She looked at Jack for help but he just shut his jaw tightly and folded his arms.
She knew that he was upset, probably more than her. She'd left Trey in the past a long time ago. Right now that wasn't the case for Jack, he looked like he wanted to push his in front of the nearest car for whatever he asked.
Well whatever it was, the answer was no. She didn't need him around for any longer. She caught Jacks eyes as he finally let go of his spiteful demeanor, showing her that it wasn't fueled by her, just her Travis Scott wanna be looking ex boyfriend.
Solána took a breath, "No Trey I don't think so." Yeah she said the wrong answer. Treys smile widened like she just agreed to sleep with him. That's not what it was right??? And Jacks eyes look like they were going to fall right from his head, he took a deep sigh and admitted defeat.
"That's awesome I thought you would mind... now that I know you don't..." Trey smiled sending some sort of "ah-ha" look to Jack before continuing, "let's go eat." Solána sent an apologetic look towards Jack as he shrugged and smiled at her hopefully.
Jack grabbed her hand which sent some sort of happy tingle through her which reminded her that they were back together. She smiled at him before pecking him on the cheek. Trey looked back at her with a blank face before crossing the street to a restaurant nearby.
Great way to start the relationship back up. On a date with her boyfriend and her ex.
— the low —
Jack, Solána and Trey sat in a small table at the back the just casual enough restaurant. Jack and Solána linked their hands under the table as they watched Trey. Trey mentioned that he needed this time to "catch up on old times."
After excusing herself with Jack and him calming her down, Solána had to promise that she wouldn't punch him, throw water at him, or publicly humiliate him... yet.
"So why did you need to catch up?" Jack emphasized on the "need" because there was truly no reason. Solána watched as Jacks jaw flexed and he let himself take a deep breath, one that lasted for three seconds because then Trey decided to speak.
"You look amazing as usual Lana." He completed in a slow voice that made Solánas stomach twist.
"Aw so do you Trey." Jack mimicked a girly voice but the look of disgust said different. Trey faked being shocked by his demeanor before looking at Solána again.
"So are you two together?" He asked with a creeping smile. Solána gripped onto her cup of water before Jack took his hand in hers.
"Yeah we are. What's new with you? Still single?" Solána asking kindly with malice behind every word. Trey faked another smile, he was the reason for his own torment, this was his idea.
"Yeah I am but there's someone I'm interested in.." he smiled the way he did whenever he wanted something. It used to work all the time. It would have her week in the knees like a fool. Making every apology or excuse worth it. But now. It made her want to vomit.
Jack rested his palm on her thigh well enough for Trey to see. "Listen dic-dude we agreed to chill but it's been about five minutes and I'm already done hearing you flirt with my girlfriend. Thanks for the water but we're done here." Jack soothingly rubbed Solánas neck as Trey fists clenched and unclenched.
He looked at Solána again pretending like Jack said nothing. "I told Nana that we broke up." There was a sadness to his eyes. And those were the only words that would've shattered Solánas heart. His Nana took care of her, even though they only went out for about a year, she'd been in her life giving her relationship advice, giving her beauty tips and everything she had to offer. She used to braid her hair and whisper about how her grandson would marry her and how she would give everything to the wedding they would have. But that was before she was in the hospital.
Solánas chest felt like it was cracked open, "she's awake?" Tears sprung to her eyes as he nodded his head, "Can I see her?" She asked immediately as a looked crossed Treys face, he coughed into his hand.
"Uh nah, she's not feeling well but she told me I never should've let you go. I wasted my opportunity, she reminded me of what an idiot I was. And now I'm here to admit it, I'm lost without you. Would you ever take me back?" He pleaded as Jack sucked his teeth.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Jack it's fine... Trey when can I see Nana, I didn't think I could visit her but now that she's awake.." hope formed in Solánas chest as she held Jacks hand. Treys eyes wavered before he started rubbing his neck.
"She was awake but then she kinda fell back asleep." The lie struck Solána, a lie that Jack caught too. Only a fool wouldn't have. She shook her head and pushed back her tears. She felt horrible now more than ever.
"I can't believe you would sit here and lie to me about something like that. You're own Nana. She loved us both.. you're expecting me to believe that she woke from her coma told you that you were an idiot for breaking up with me and then fell back into it?" Trey flinched at Solánas tone but did the idiot thing and nodded, she immediately scoffed, "what the fuck is your problem? Is it that I'm happy? That was always your issue with me wasnt it?" Solána asked as he shook his head.
"No I loved you.. I still do baby." Trey admitted with fake pity.
"Don't call her that shit." Jack said finally showing how pissed off her was despite the small grip on her small hand. "Thanks I got this" she said before he smiled.
"Don't call me that shit. You have an issue. A serious got damn issue that you need fixed. I'm half convinced that you stalked me. Jack and I both, which is insane. Especially for someone that abused me. You never fucking cared about me. You barely care about your Nana because you're sitting here lying about her waking up. How could you do that? As if she didn't give everything to the both of us. Maybe thats why you hated me, that's why you called me names, thats why would would laugh when I broke down thats why you looked at me with disgust and hate. Because I have people that love me, I have talent, I have hope, I'm strong. Unlike you, you're a pathetic fucking loser hoping that I would get with you after what you did is exactly the move I should've expected from you." Solána felt free telling him off, as she stood up Trey followed.
His face was red and his fist was clenched. He raised his hand but Jack was faster and in a matter of seconds Trey was crying out and clutching his nose. "Jack.." Solána whispered as he clutched his red fist, if she thought he was disgusted with him before she couldn't even begin to describe his feelings now.
As if remembering Solána was there he finally looked at her with a softened gaze and kissed her forehead, "If I'm you're husband, boyfriend, friend or ex I don't give a fuck I would never lay a hand on you. Or lie to you like that. I swear on my life Sol." Solána smiled brightly at him before she squeezed his hand with reassurance.
"I know, I love you." Jack smiled and led them back home, when they got to the door he kissed her again, "I loved you while you were gone and even before I knew you." Solána laughed at the corny admission but her heart raced.
"And what about now?" She giggled.
"So much I can't breathe."

IM BACK
I MISSED YOU GUYS
this chapter was about resolving issues of horrible exes it was a bit of filler but still equally important to everything in the story and as always it develops Solánas sense of maturing in relationships and realizing who she is while magnifying the bond and love between her and Jack
