Chapter Two: The 1st of September
Y/N POV
We arrived at King's Cross Station and began to look for Platform 9 ¾, which should have been between Platform 9 and 10. As we found the platforms, there were also others, especially among them were a group of redheads and a kid with glasses and dark hair, most of which our mother recognized.
"Molly Weasley! As I live and breathe!" Mum exclaims. "How are you and Arthur doing!" She goes up to hug Ms.Weasley as she returns it.
"Addison! It is incredible to see you again! Arthur and I are doing just fine, although the twins can be a bit too much of trouble." Ms. Weasley says.
"Oh, speaking of twins, I don't think you have seen my kids in a while, have you?" She asked her as she brought us forward to her.
"No, as a matter of fact, I haven't! My lord, Lana, Y/N! You have grown up so much!" Ms. Weasley claims. "You look a lot like your father, Y/N, may he rest in peace."
Gosh, I seem to be getting that a lot, don't I?
"It's nice to see you again, Ms.Weasley." I said with a smile. "Are they your kids, Ms.Weasley?" Lana asked her.
"Oh yes, they are!" She says as she brought the five of her children over. "That's Percy, one of our oldest. Then they are the twins, Fred and George, then our youngest son, Ronald and our youngest daugther, Ginny."
Ronald and the other kid seemed to be around our age, and the both of them came up to us. "I'm Ronald, but you can call me Ron. It's much better than Ronald." He then offered his hand to shake.
"Pleasure to meet you! I'm Y/N and that's my sister, Lana." We shook his hand and looked toward the kid with glasses. "And who might you be?"
"I'm Harry. Harry Potter. It's nice to meet you, Y/N. You too, Lana." He also had out his hand to shake and we both shook it. 'Where the heck have I heard that name before?'
As we got to know each other, it was time to go through the platform. Percy went through first as he was the oldest of the Weasleys, then the twins, who played a joke on Ms. Weasley that she had mistaken the two for each other, which was wildly humorous for the rest of us, while Ms. Weasley was left with her mouth open. After them, Ron allowed us to go before him, in which we ran fast through the border like how we saw the other Weasleys had done.
As we ran past the barrier, we caught a look at the famous scarlet engine itself. The Hogwarts Express. " Wow, Mom had really understated how the Hogwarts Express looked like, didn't she?" Lana said in awe.
"Sure, maybe I have, but I haven't seen the darn thing since I left Hogwarts." Mum says as she appeared out of nowhere, which scared the living BEJESUS out of me. "I'm sorry about that, you two." She added. Ron and Harry came in a little while later, while Ms. Weasley left with Ginny. Before the engine started boarding Mum bent down to our eye level, "I'm so proud of you two, and I know your father will be too. I know you two will become great wizards and witches. Be safe and keep out of trouble, okay?"
"We can try, but no promises, mum. You know how the both of us are." Lana says to her. "But yes, we can try to keep away from trouble, mum." I said with a sad smile on my face.
Mum then looked to the two of us and chuckled. " Yes, I know very much. But I really don't want any letters about anything." She then stood us and hugged the two of us, and as we pulled away, she planted a kiss on our foreheads. "I love you both. Do write when you can." She said.
We nodded and as the clocks struck 11, we got on the train and were leaving the platform, waving goodbye to our mother. We then proceeded to look for a compartment, but settled with sitting with Harry and Ron. We all began to talk with ourselves. Turns out how I remembered Harry's name was that he was the Boy who lived, from the books we read.
"I knew it! I knew we heard your name before!" I exclaimed as he explained the story behind the elusive lighting bolt scar on his forehead. As that happened, the compartment doors opened, revealing an old woman with a trolley full of sweets. "This must be the Trolley Witch mum was talking about." Lana whispered to me.
"Anything off the Trolley, dears?" The older witch asked. In response to this, Ron pulled out a bag of mashed sandwiches out of a pocket. "No thanks, I'm all set." We all felt sorry that he was gonna miss out on the sweets, in which we pulled out a pouch and said, "We'll take the lot!"
Moments later, we ended up with four of each sweet. Harry picked up a carton of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, and said the name aloud. "Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans?"
"They mean every flavour!" Ron exclaims. "There's chocolate and peppermint, and there's also spinach, liver and tripe. George swore he got a bogey-flavoured one once!" Hearing that delightful tangent of information, I put the carton away in disgust. Harry then picked up a blue and gold package of a Chocolate Frog. "There aren't real chocolate frogs, are they?" He asked and Ron responded, " It's just a spell. Besides, it's the card you want. I got about 500 myself." Harry opened the package, and to his surprise, the frog came to life, hopped out of the box , and jumped out the window.
"Oh, that's rotten luck." Lana said. "They've only got one good jump anyway." Harry then pulled out the card and said, "I got Dumbledore!"
"I've got about 6 of him." Ron said between bites. "Hey, Y/N, how come you've been so quiet, mate?" I have been silent for a while after hearing about the beans, I just sat there staring at them in disgust along with the hopes of seeing that girl, Hermione again. I wanted to get to know her better since she was the first person we met before Hogwarts.
"I think he's waiting to see if he will find someone we met at Diagon Alley." Lana says as if she was reading my mind and gave me a shove. I came back from my brief zone-out. "Sorry, what? I was just looking at those putrid beans."
"Alright then, mate." Ron says as he wolfed down some chocolate. "Hey, he's gone!" Harry said in amazement. "Can't expect him to stay around too long right?" I said.
A squeak is barely heard out to us. "This is Scabbers, by the way." Ron says as he holds up the rat from his knee. "Pathetic, isn't he?"
"A little." Harry says
"Kind of." Lana said.
"It's. a. R-A-T." I said bluntly.
"Fred gave me a spell to turn 'im yellow. Want to see?"
Harry was ecstatic to see a spell up close, while Lana was in doubt in seeing a rat turn another color. I began to zone out and think about meeting Hermione again.
As Ron begins to speak, the doors open up to reveal a familiar bushy-haired girl. Speak, or in my case...
Think of the devil.
Hermione POV
I was looking through the compartments in search of a toad. I was sitting in a compartment with a boy named Neville who lost his and he asked me to help him find it. As I walked through the train, I began looking through other compartments and asking if anyone had seen the toad, until I reached a certain compartment.
As I opened the doors, I saw two familiar faces and two boys looking at me. "Has anyone seen a toad? A boy named Neville's lost one." They all said they haven't, but upon seeing the red-haired holding a wand to a rat, I assumed they were doing magic.
"Oh, are you doing magic? Let's see then." I said. The boy cleared his throat and began, "Sunshine, daises, butter mellow, turn this stupid, fat rat yellow!"
The rat got zapped, but he did not turn another color, leaving me and the others unamused.
"Are you sure that's a real spell? Well, it's not very good, is it? Of course I've only tried a few simple spells myself, and they've all worked for me. For example..." I went over the dark-haired boy and pointed my wand at his glasses.
"Oculus Reparo." I chant once, fixing the glasses and making the tape on it disappear. As the boy took off his glasses, I said, "Better, isn't it? The boy put his glasses back on and I caught something by the corner of my eye.
A scar in the shape of a lighting bolt.
"Holy Cricket! You're Harry Potter!" I said amazed. "I'm Hermione Granger. And you are?" I asked the red-haired boy as I turned to him. "I'm..." He said with his mouth full. "Ron Weasley."
"Pleasure." I said, my face being still. "Yes, I remember the both of you, Lana and Y/N." I smiled at both of them, and I thought I saw a slight blush on Y/N's face.
"Hello again, Hermione!" Y/N says. " How have you been?"
"I've been well, last time I saw you. Would you like to help me find the toad?" I asked.
"Yeah, I would! I just have to put on my robes first." The blond-haired boy said. " I think we'll be at Hogwarts soon."
Y/N then went to put on his robes, and while I waited on him, I looked to Ron.
"You got dirt, on your nose, by the way, did you know? Just there." I said, pointing at the speck of dirt and he scratched it.
"Hey, Lana, would you like to come with us?" Y/N asked as he came back with his Hogwarts robes. "Nah, you can go. I don't really like toads." She said as she made a small wink at him, causing him to blush again. I heard a pair of meow from somewhere but I didn't see any cats anywhere.
As we made our way, we began to talk more and more. Turns out, him and I have a lot in common. We both love books, we both like learning interesting things and he and Lana went to primary school before they got their letters for Hogwarts.
"Our mum thought it was a good idea to be taught some muggle things before we went to Hogwarts. It was kinda fun, but I was always the outcast." Y/N says. "I didn't have a lot of friends. Lana did have some that were close to her though. Most were nice to me."
"Oh, that seems the same for me." I said. "I didn't have any friends, though. Just myself and some books."
"Well, say no more, cause you're looking at your new friend!" Y/N says, making me giggle and blush a little and earned him a hug, which seemed to surprise the both of us.
We spent most of the time we still had on the Hogwarts Express looking for the toad until the engine came to a stop. As it stopped, people flooded out of the train in their robes to meet a rather-giant man.
"Right, then! First year, this way, please!" The man bellowed out. "Come on, now, don't be shy! Come on now, hurry up!" The man seemed to know Harry as he walked up to him, so Y/N and I followed behind him, Ron and Lana.
"Hello, Harry!" The man called out to him. "Hello, Hagrid." Harry said in response. We caught up with Lana, while Harry and Ron were talking to Hagrid, who directed us to the boats in the lake.
Y/N, Lana and I went in one boat with another kid, some boy named Dean Thomas, i think, while Harry and Ron got in a boat with twin sisters. As the boats reached the castle, the other students and ourselves walked up to what I assumed was the Great Hall. As we continued towards the hall, an older witch was waiting for us.
"This must be Professor McGonagall." Lana said to the both of us as we were walking up the staircase. "She's the head of Gryffindor House. Speaking of, what house are you hoping to get, Hermione?" She asked.
"I'm hoping for Gryffindor, but I wouldn't mind Ravenclaw." I said. "I think it might suit me. What about the two of you?"
"Our family is a legacy of Ravenclaws from our father's side, so we wouldn't be that surprised." Y/N says.
As we approached the Professor, she began to greet us. "Welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats, you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now while you're here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you house points. Any rule breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup."
As she ended her greeting, a boy among us spotted something near the witch, which was the toad that we were looking for.
"Trevor!" Neville cried out. He dashed towards the professor to catch his pet, but realized what he had done. "Sorry." He said, embarrassed. "That's Neville?" Y/N asked, to which I nodded. "Huh, I feel for the poor guy."
"The sorting ceremony will begin shortly." McGonagall said, disregarding what recently happened.
As she leaves, a boy with short blond hair walks towards Harry, in which Y/N and Lana both collectively say, "Oh, bloody hell. Not him."
"Who is that guy? Why did you say that about him?" I asked the twins.
"A massive jerk, that's who." Lana says.
Harry POV
A blond-haired boy came over in front of me and spoke up. "Is it true? What they're saying on the train?" He asked. "Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." the boy then turns to his henchmen or friends, I don't know. "This is Crabbe and Goyle. And I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." The moment he made his name James Bond-esque, Ron snickered and to Draco's attention, he then talked to him.
"Think my name's funny, do you?" Malfoy said aggressively. "No need to ask yours, then. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley." He then was about to say something, but he was interrupted by a familiar voice.
"So? Who cares if he's a Weasley or not? Certainly better than being a blond, demented idiot, Malfoy?" Y/N yelled out to him.
Draco then turned his attention toward the boy. " Oh hello, again, Lovegood. How have you blood-traitors been, eh?" He then put his attention back on me and said. "You'll find some wizarding families are better than others. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help with that." He then put out his hand to shake.
I glared at Draco and his hand. "I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thank you." I said leaving him awe-struck.
McGonagall then returned from the hall and tapped Draco on the shoulder and he left with an angry glare.
"We're ready for you now. Follow me." The elder woman proclaimed.
