Chapter 7: Troll in the Dungeon!

Y/N POV

It was now a month after we started at Hogwarts and it is currently October 31st, Halloween. Lana and I love this holiday, it's just so fun when you go to get sweets and scare some lot of kids and have a laugh about it. We would always take Luna with us, she would love getting all sorts of sweets, wizarding world or Muggle.

Anyways, today Harry had his first Quidditch lesson with Wood, so I decided to tag along and watch his training as a seeker. I wonder if I'm any good at Quidditch, since my mom was a seeker and my father was a keeper, along with being captain of the Ravenclaw team.

"Hello, Harry!" Wood called out to him as he brought out a trunk. "Oh, who's this you brought with you?" He says as he watches me walking with him.

"Oh, this is my friend, Y/N Lovegood. He's a Gryffindor like us and the first in his family. Most of them are Ravenclaws." Harry told him.

"So, he's not a Ravenclaw spy?" Wood questioned.

"Hey, Wood, I'm not deaf, I'm in front of you." I said with sarcasm in my voice. "And no, I'm not a spy for Ravenclaw. If anything, they don't need to spy since they are good at strategizing."

Wood apologized to me and I made my way to the bleachers to watch them. Wood began to explain Quidditch to Harry with the seven players, 3 Chasers, 2 beaters, (which of course, were the Weasley twins) a Keeper (Wood himself) and a seeker, which would be Harry's position.

He then proceeded to pull out a red ball called the Quaffle, which the chasers pay attention to and get through the three hoops. Wood defends said hoops from the opposing team. He then pulled out a bat and gave it to Harry, who stared at it with confusion. He strangely then even called me down and gave me a bat as well. He then went back to the trunk and pulled out another ball, which growled and flew off in the air.

"Careful now, you two, it's coming back." Wood warned. As the ball came back down like Wood warned, I pulled the bat and gave the ball a good old whack, sending it off near a statue which didn't break at all.

"Wow, Lovegood. You'd make a decent beater." Wood said as he struggled to put the ball back in the trunk.

"Thanks, but I think I would be good as a seeker, like my mum, but Harry's already the seeker." I said.

"What is that?" Harry asked us.

"Bludger. Nasty little buggers." Wood started off. "But you are the seeker, and the only thing I want you to worry about is this..."

Wood finally pulled out a small ball, smaller than both the Quaffle and the Bludger at the size of a walnut as it sprouted golden wings.

"The Golden Snitch." Wood showed off.

"I like this one!" Harry proclaimed.

"Ah, you like it now. Just wait." Wood said. "It's wicked fast and damn near impossible to see."

"What do I do with it?" Harry asked.

"You have to catch it before the other team." I said to Harry. "Your team gets 150 points and the game is over."

"Took the words right out of my mouth." Wood said proudly. "You could be part of the team next year, you know, maybe even try for reserve seeker."

The Snitch then decided to fly off and Harry went off to catch it as I walked back to the Common Room to get ready for Charms with Professor Filtwick.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Charms started, Professor Filtwick began to instruct us on top of a pile of books, due to the man's short stature. He had grouped us in groups of two and three. I was with Harry and Seamus, while Lana was with Padma, who is the twin sister of Parvati, who was in Gryffindor with us and Hermione was with Ron.

"One of a wizard's most rudimentary skills is levitation," Filtwick began. "The ability to make objects float. Do you have your feathers?" Hermione raised her feather to remind the professor.

"Good. Now, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing, hmm?" He went on. "The swish and flick. Everyone."

Every student then went on, "Swish and Flick."

"Good." Flitwick continued. "And enunciate. Wingardium Leviosa. Off you go then."

Seamus, Harry and I began to start doing the movements that the good professor taught us. I was about to say the incantation until I heard sometime from my left.

"Wingardium Leviosar!" Ron said from my left and brought his wand up and down in every which way, which made me cringe at the thought that he wasn't doing anything that Flitwick said.

Hermione caught my eye and Ron's movements, and as if she read my mind, she stopped his atrocious actions.

"Stop, stop, stop." Hermione said in a bossy tone as she put her hands in the way. "You're going to take someone's eye out. Besides you're saying it wrong. It's Levi-o-sa, not Levi-o-sar." ( I could practically hear Emma Watson saying that in my head.)

"You do it then if you're so clever. Go on, go on." Ron said disrespectfully.

Hermione then straightened herself and did the movement exactly like Flitwick showed us.

"Wingardium Leviosa." She said perfectly as her feather was the first to float up in the air.

I then looked to my own feather and did exactly as Hermione had done and said, "Wingardium Leviosa." My feather flew up into the air just like Hermione's and from across the room, I saw that Lana had done the same as me.

"Oh, well done! See here, everyone!" Professor Flitwick cried out to the class. "Mr. Lovegood, Miss Lovegood and Miss Granger have done it!"

Ron, looking dejected at what he witnessed, let his head fall to his books and from mine and Harry's side, Seamus began swishing his wand towards his feather and said something among the lines of, "Wingard Levosa."

"Wait, Seamus don't say it like-" I began to say before,

BOOM!

I was interrupted by another explosion, leaving the three of us charred with ash and Seamus' feather smoldering to ash.

"Why-must-everything-explode-when-you-are-trying-to-cast-a-spell?" I said.

"I think we are going to need another feather here, Professor." Harry said calmly, to which everyone but Seamus laughed at, but eventually Seamus joined in.

The rest of class went off without a hitch and eventually we left the classroom. I left with Lana while Harry left with Ron as Ron was telling him something. And he was being rather loud, which he would most likely regret.

"It's Leviosa, not Leviosar!" He began as he mimicked Hermione before returning to his normal voice. "She's a nightmare, honestly. No wonder she hasn't got any friends!"

As I heard him talk like that about Hermione, I felt angry that he was talking like that about my best friend.

And what made me even madder was that Hermione heard him.

As she heard the ginger-haired boy, she hugged her books, started to tear up and ran off. I clenched my hand into a fist which Lana noticed and shook her head. I let go of my fist and walked towards Ron.

"What the hell is wrong is you!" I yelled. "She was only trying to help you, arsehole! You're lucky that you didn't get decked in the face. She keeps trying to be nice to you, but you had to be such a dickhead to her, huh, Ron!? " I must have scared him, because he looked like he was afraid.

As I walked back to Lana, she said, "Let's go and try to find her." as she was keeping an eye out for a certain bushy-haired girl. "Yeah, I hope we can help her." I said.

Good news was that Hermione didn't go far from where we were.

Bad news was that she went into the girl's bathroom and I couldn't go because of...obvious reasons.

"Umm, oh I got it!" Lana exclaimed silently. "Put on your hood, I'll bring you in."

As I put my hood over my head, she pulled me next to her and opened the bathroom door. Good thing, no-one seemed to see my face, otherwise, I was done for. When all the other girls left the bathroom, I pulled off the hood and walked around while Lana called out, "Hermione! It's us!"

There was no answer. "Come on, Hermione! Come out, please?" Lana continued.

"Go away." A voice who had seemed to be crying said. "I want to be alone."

I then walked over to the stall where the voice came from. "Please, 'Mione, come out. For me?"

"Wait, Y/N? How did you get in here?" Hermione called.

"That's not important right now." I said. "What's important is how you're feeling. But please, can you come out?"

The door in front of me then opened and I was met with a hug-tackle of bushy brown hair and tears starting to drop on my robes, but that didn't matter to me.

What did matter was how Hermione was feeling.

While she was stuck to me, I brought the two of us toward a wall to sit down and I motioned to Lana to join us.

"Hey, are you okay? How are you feeling?" I asked her as I put my arm around her. "I swear, Ron was being the most supreme of gits saying that about you."

"A little bit." Hermione said as she put her head on my shoulder, but tears still kept coming from her eyes. "I just got upset at what he said."

"You know what, Hermione?" Lana said as I pulled my robe sleeve up a little and wiped her tears for her. "Forget about what he said."

"Yeah, he's just jealous that he couldn't do it on the first try like you could. Or that he isn't as smart as you." I said. "Next time he says something like that, I'm gonna swear at him in French."

Hermione giggled and held on to me tighter. "Ouais, ce serait vraiment drôle à voir." (Translation: "Yeah, that would be really funny to see.") Lana was absolutely surprised that Hermione knew French as well as to say it perfectly, and frankly so was I.

"Since when could you speak French so perfectly?" I asked her with a smile.

"Ever since you said something in French in front of me. Also I looked some up." She giggled once more.

As Lana heard this, her eyes went wide and she mouthed, "What did you say to her?" with a smile and a wink.

We all then started to talk more with Hermione and she began getting more comfortable with us until a foul stench snuck in which made us all crinkle our noses.

"Oh god, what is that smell? It smells horrible." Lana said as we caught a whiff of the stench.

"Umm, I think I know." I said with a hint of fear in my voice.

Because standing in front of us was a 12-foot troll with a club ready to kill us.

Harry POV

It was currently time for the Halloween feast. As all of the Gryffindors sat down, I couldn't help but notice that two other certain Gryffindors weren't in their spots.

"Hey, where's Hermione and Y/N?" I asked Neville, who was sitting right next to me.

"Parvati Patil said that Hermione wouldn't come out of the girls bathroom last she checked," Neville began, "but no one's seen Y/N or his sister after Charms."

"I've heard something about her." A voice said from behind us, who was Pansy Parkinson from Slytherin. "She was in the bathrooms crying, and I was trying to see if I could help her. But she just said to go away. Someone must have hurt her a lot."

I looked to Ron with a look of disapproval and he just shrugged. I can't believe he said that about Hermione, she had only tried to help him, but he had to be a git and make her upset.

"Ron, you just really had to do that, didn't you?" I said with sarcasm. He then looked down and said, "Yeah, I think I was being too harsh on her."

"You think? Wow, that's incredible." I said with even more sarcasm. Before I could say anything else, the doors to the Great Hall opened and out came a familiar purple-turbaned man with shrieks of terror.

"TROLL! IN THE DUNGEON! TROLL IN THE DUNGEON!" Professor Quirrell cried out as Dumbledore rose from his seat with a concerned look and every student turned towards him. "Thought you'd ought to know." he says as he falls to the ground in a faint.

As he hit the floor, every student started to panic and scream until Dumbledore yelled out, "SILLLLLEEENNNNCEEEEE!" Everyone seemed to calm down from the Headmaster's words. "Everyone will please, not panic." The old man began. "Now, Prefects will lead their houses back to their dormitories. Teachers will follow me to the dungeons."

The prefects began collecting the other houses and leading them to their dorms while a certain greasy-haired man walked through another doorway. Percy had completely changed gears and shouted, "Gryffindors, keep up please! And stay alert!"

"How could a troll get in?" I asked Ron.

"Not by itself. Trolls are really stupid." Ron said. "Probably people playing jokes."

Wait. What if...

I stopped and stood there in thought as I pulled Ron to another corner. "What?" He asked.

"Y/N! Hermione! Lana! They don't know!" I said.

As we left the other Gryffindors, we made our way down the hall until we heard a couple of screams and a rather loud grunt.

"It must have left the dungeon!" Ron proclaimed.

"And has already made it's way in the Girl's Bathroom." I said in fear.

We ran into the bathroom to find an ugly being with a club in its hand towering above Lana, Y/N and Hermione standing back in fear. Lana had her wand arm raised up towards the troll, while Y/N held his wand too and he used his other arm to guide Hermione behind him to protect her.

"About time someone showed up!" Y/N yelled out to us as he laid his eyes upon us.

"You lot, move out of the way!" I shouted back.

"Oh, really!" Lana yelled in sarcasm. "I thought we would just stand here and wait for the thing to bash us with it's club!"

The troll seemed offended by the insult and began to smash the stalls around us. Y/N pushed Hermione to safety and Lana went to stick with her while Ron quickly picked up a piece of wood near him and yelled out, "Oi, pea brain!" as he threw it to the troll's head which it shrugged off.

Unbelievable.

The troll then laid it's eyes on Hermione and Lana and began to raise it's club, ready to smash them with it. But before the troll could bring the club down, Y/N spotted what was going on and ran over and threw himself to shield the girls. Thankfully, it missed them, but it did break Y/N's left arm.

"Y/N! Your arm!" Lana screamed as she had.

"Oh, goddamn you, you sick bastard!" Y/N yelled to the troll as he clutched his arm and some blood trickled from his nose and his forehead. His blood had trickled down his head and went down to his cheeks.

I pulled out my wand and ran towards the troll's club, but instead it grabbed him and hung me upside down.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" I cried as it swung me around. I managed to stick my wand in it's nose, which made Lana gag, Ron saying, "Ew.", Hermione with a disgusted look and Y/n giving me a look which mentally told me, "What the hell is wrong with you?" as he continued to clutch his arm. Hermione went over to Y/N and pulled him away so he wouldn't get hurt.

The troll continued to wave me around as if I was another club. As it stopped waving me around like a stick to a bloody pinata, I managed to yell out, "Do something!" God, this thing might be as dumb as Dudley.

Actually, that's not right. This thing is smarter than Dudley.

The troll started to swing me again. "What!" Ron said as he watched as I was still being waved around.

"ANYTHING! JUST HURRY UP!" I shouted.

From what I saw, Y/N was being held by Hermione as Lana waved her hand to Ron, who had went to grab his wand.

"Swish and flick!" The girls cried out.

Ron, who had finally decided to listen then correctly called out, "Wingardium Leviosa!" The club floated up from it's hand and above the troll, which it didn't seem to notice until it looked up, in which the club came crashing into its head.

"Cool." Ron said as the troll fell to the ground and dropped me before it did. Hermione got up and carefully put Y/N's broken arm around her neck and her arm behind him to help him up, while Ron went to help Lana up.

"Hey, Hermione?" Ron said as she turned her head around to face him. "I'm sorry about what I said. I hope you can forgive me."

"It's fine, Ronald." Hermione said. "Just don't do that again."

"Also, Ron." Y/N said. "If you do that again, I will not be afraid to hex you."

We all then proceeded to look at the troll, which now laid on the ground with my wand in its nose.

"Is it... dead?" Hermione asked

"I don't think so. Just knocked out." I said as I grabbed my wand, which was covered in troll mucus. "Ew. Troll Bogies."

"You alright, Y/N?" I asked as I wiped my wand on my robes.

"My arm hurts like hell, but I think a visit to Madam Pomfrey will do me some good." He said.

Suddenly, Professors McGonagall, Snape and Quirrell came running in and all of them collectively gasped at the knocked-out troll.

"Oh! Oh, my goodness!" A shocked Professor McGonagall stuttered out. "E-Explain yourselves, all of you!"

Lana POV

As Professor McGonagall asked us what happened, we all looked to each other in hopes of explaining ourselves.

Harry and Ron began to open their mouths to tell the elder witch, but before either of them could speak, someone else did.

"It's my fault, Professor McGonagall." Hermione said as all of us looked to her.

"Miss Granger?" McGonagall said in confusion.

"I went looking for the Troll. I'd read about them and I thought I could handle it." Hermione began. "But I was wrong. If Y/N, Lana and the boys hadn't come and found me in here... I'd probably be dead."

"And what happened to Mr. Lovegood's arm?" Snape questioned her.

"The troll raised it's club to hurt Hermione and my sister, but I shielded them from it. It missed, but it broke my arm." Y/N said for her.

"Be that as it may be..." Professor McGonagall started off. "It was an extremely foolish thing to do." As she spoke, I noticed Harry was looking at Snape's leg, whose trousers were torn and exposed a large cut. Snape took notice of his curiosity and covered it up as he glared at him.

"I would have expected more rational behavior on your part, Miss Granger." McGonagall continued. "Five points will be taken from Gryffindor for your serious lack of judgement." She then turned to face all five of us and began once more. "As for you four, I just hope you realize how fortunate you are. Not many students could take on a fully grown mountain troll and live to tell the tale. Five points... will be awarded each to Gryffindor and five points to Miss Lovegood for Ravenclaw."

As she revealed her statement, I couldn't help but grin at my brother, who shot one back along with Hermione.

"For sheer dumb luck!" McGonagall finished. "Miss Granger, you may take Mr. Lovegood to the hospital wing for Madam Pomfrey.

"Yes, Professor." Hermione said as she blushed and took him to the wing.

McGonagall and Snape then proceeded to leave after the two while Professor Quirrel stayed behind. "Perhaps you ought to go...M-might wake up...heh" He said in between stutters.

Ron and Harry began to leave and just when I was about to, I heard a strange voice that didn't belong to anyone present in the room.

"The troll didn't do what I wanted. Pathetic beings, they are." A voice said in my head. "Although the next part of the plan, it may just be as successful."

Wherever that voice came from, it just made my head hurt and chills rushing down my spine. It did sound eerily familiar but I couldn't tell. Hopefully I was just hearing things.

Y/N POV

Hermione and I walked down to Madam Pomfrey as my arm hung around her neck. I couldn't help but but blush at the fact that she was holding me from my back.

"Hey, so you feeling better now?" I asked her.

Hermione then looked up to me with a small smile on her face. "Yeah, loads better. What about you and your arm?" She said.

"It hurts, but I think I'll be alright." I said. "Nothing Madam Pomfrey can't fix, right?"

She giggled adorably as we arrived at Madam Pomfrey. "Oh, my goodness! What happened?" The nurse said as she looked at my arm.

"It broke from the troll's club." Hermione answered for me.

"Oh my. Put him on the bed, Miss Granger." Madam Pomfrey said. "I'll tend to him, it won't take long. You can wait for a moment."

Hermione guided me towards the bed and helped me get on it. As I waited for Madam Pomfrey to work her literal magic, Hermione then looked at my face and went to find some tissues. I was a bit confused why she was looking for them until she got closer and started to wipe my upper lip.

"Oh, I remembered that your nose and your forehead was bleeding so I went to find some of these." She said as she became flustered. "Sorry if I surprised you like that."

"Oh, it's no problem." I said. "I didn't realize my nose was still bleeding." Hermione smiled, slipped her hand in mine and used her other hand to wipe my lip and forehead to get rid of the blood.

"Oww..." I squirmed as I felt the burning sensation of the rubbing alcohol on my forehead. "It stings, doesn't it?" Hermione asked softly as she removed the pad off my head. "Sorry, I would have used a spell, but I can't think of the right one at the moment."

"It's okay." I said. "I can handle it. Even if it stings like hell." Hermione pressed it back on my forehead and it did sting again, but I didn't make a sound this time. However, Hermione noticed my flinching and in a effort to help me, her hand tightened in mine and I felt her thumb slide across my hand and she smiled softly at me.

Madam Pomfrey came back with her wand and muttered, "Episkey" to my nose, returning it to normal along with "Brackium Emendo" and "Ferula", which seemed to repair my arm and bandage it in a cast. "Come to my office twice a week so I may check your arm. Your arm couldn't all be fixed from the club, so I had to cast Ferula to make sure it doesn't get more damaged." The nurse told me.

"Oh, alright then." I said as I hopped off the bed carefully. "Thank you very much, Madam Pomfrey."

"You are very welcome, Mr. Lovegood." Madam Pomfrey said. "Now, off to your common room. The feast is continuing there."

The two of us walked back to the common room, making small talk along the way and laughing all the way.

"Hey, Y/N?" Hermione asked.

"Yeah, 'Mione?"

"I just wanted to say... thank you. For coming to comfort me and saving me from the troll. Even if your arm did get broken."

"No problem. Actually, I've come to think of you as my best friend. I haven't been closer to anyone like this other than my sister. And besides, friends help each other."

She blushed at the fact that she was my best friend and surprised me with a hug. "Thank you so much. You're my best friend too."

And if the hug wasn't a surprise enough, she did something that I didn't expect entirely.

She stood up on her toes, put her hand on one of my left cheek, and kissed my right cheek.

She then pulled back from me and let out another adorable giggle as I smiled sweetly.

"Come on, they must be waiting for us." She said as she motioned me to walk with her.

As we arrived at the Gryffindor room, we found Lana waiting as Professor McGonagall allowed her to come into the Common Room. The three of us then met up with Harry and Ron and we talked for the rest of the feast as we ate.

And the five of us would become the Golden Quintet.
