Chapter 6: Three-Headed Dogs before the 19th

Lana POV

After the revelation that both our parents were star Quidditch players, we decided to make our way towards our common rooms.

"I'm telling you, it's spooky. She knows more about you than you do." I heard Ron tell the other boys.

"I mean, it is reasonable that Hermione knows. Harry is famous here, anyone would know about him since he was kept in the dark by those Muggles you don't like right?" Y/N said.

Hermione paid no heed to the boys as she was in her own mind while walking up the stairs. Speaking of said stairs, they now took it upon themselves to change direction with no warning. The five of us each held onto the railing hanging on for dear life.

As Ron yelled in fear, Harry shouted, "What's happening?"

"The Stairs change, remember!" Hermione said as I remembered that the Ravenclaw Prefect said the same thing on our first day.

The stairs turned to another floor and led up to another corridor. "Let's go this way!" Harry called out to us. "Before the staircase moves again!"

The five of us walked up the stairs and found ourselves in a very dark corridor, Very quiet, very spooky.

Before I could speak, someone else among us spoke up.

"Does anyone feel like... we shouldn't be here?" Harry spoke with an ounce of fear in his voice.

"We aren't, It's the third floor corridor." I said. "Dumbledore said it was forbidden."

"No one is allowed up here unless they want a most painful death." Y/N said, quoting the words of the half moon-spectacled man. Suddenly a creature came out of the corner with a flame above its head. As the creature came into focus, we started to panic when it made an all too familiar meow.

"It's Filch's cat!" Ron cried out. "Run!"

"Quick! Let's hide through that door!" Harry said as he pointed to the mysterious door near us.

As he grabbed the handle and tried to turn it, it didn't even budge.

"It's locked!" He deduced. "That's it, we're done for!" Ron cried out in fear that we would be caught by the cat and even worse, it's bald and scary owner.

"Oh, move over!" Hermione and I said to the other boys, aiming our wands towards the lock and muttered. "Alohomora."

The door's lock lifted up and opened up magically through the use of a single spell. "Alohomora?" Ron questioned us.

"It's a standard lock-picking spell, Chapter 7 of Standard book of spells." Y/N answers.

As we entered the room, the door locked behind us. Before all of us went in the room, Filch came out of the corner with Ms. Norris, but we got in before he could see us.

"Anyone here, my sweet?" a nasally, older voice said, followed by a meow. "Come on."

"What the hell?" Y/N asked. "I love Snowball to death, but Filch sounds like he took that to the next level. But oh well, he's gone anyway."

"Probably thinks the door was locked." Ron said.

Hermione looked at him in discontent. "It was locked." She said in anger and relief.

"And for good reason." Y/N said with fear of what he saw. We turned around to see a large figure in the back. The figure seemed to be sleeping because it woke up to the sounds of our collective voices. As the figure came up to us, it became more visible from where we can see. It was a three-headed dog who was very fluffy and equally as dangerous with very sharp fangs growling at us.

"AHHHHHHH!!!" We screamed as we bolted out the door and ran out into the hallway.

Y/N POV

As we ran out of the room in fear that we would be chased by the furious killer dog with three heads, I didn't even notice that Hermione and I were holding hands until we stopped running. She must have grabbed it in response to the dog getting ready to possibly attack us. Not the way I pictured holding her hand, but hey, it's a start.

"What do they think they're doing??" Ron yelled as we stopped running. "Keeping a thing like that locked up in a school?"

Hermione still looked at him with moderate disgust in her eyes. "You don't use your eyes, do you? Didn't you see what it was standing on?"

"I wasn't looking at its feet! I was focusing on it's heads!" Ron shrieked. " Or maybe you didn't notice, there were three!"

"Do you mean the trapdoor underneath one of it's paws?" I asked her as Lana shook her head in agreement.

"Thank you! Some people have seen it, Ronald." Hermione answered. "It was a trapdoor, yes, which means it's guarding something."

"Guarding something?" Harry asked.

"Yeah, Harry, what else would Cerberus be doing on a trapdoor other than lead people to the Underworld?" I quipped.

"That's right." Hermione said as she turned to Harry and Ron. "Now if you two don't mind, I'm going to bed before either of you come up with a clever idea to get us killed... or worse, expelled." She then turned to us and smiled as she said, "Good night, Y/N, Lana." as she went to the girl's dormitory.

"She needs to sort out her priorities!" Ron said as I slapped him on the back of his head.

Hermione POV

It had been a couple of days since the incident with the three-headed dog (I think Y/N called it Cereberus, quite fitting for it honestly) and we have gotten back to more schoolwork. I woke up a bit earlier than most of the girls, so I got a head start on the day. I got my robes, made my hair (even though I don't really like the bushiness of it) and got ready for my classes.

As I left the dorms, I walked into the common room, where I began to be accustomed with Y/N being there since he wakes up early like me. But today, he wasn't there, which worried me a bit. Did he sleep in? He does wake up around this time.

I went to the couch and I sat there waiting for him. As I looked around the room, I heard something land on the couch from behind me and a whisper,

"Expecting someone?" I yelped at the sound of the voice as I closed my eyes, turned and punched something.

"Ouch!" Y/N said as I opened my eyes. "You know, you punch really hard!" He said as he chuckled and clutched his arm.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I said as I took his arm, which I punched. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, might just be a fracture." Y/N said. "It does hurt like hell though."

I pulled my wand and pointed it to where I may have fractured it and muttered, "Episkey."

(A/N: I know Episkey is used for broken noses, toes and split lips according to the Harry Potter Fandom site, but I couldn't find one for fractures, but it may be a minor injury.)

"Is it better now?" I asked.

"Yeah, it is, thanks." He said with a smile. (God, everything he smiles, I blush like mad!) "You do know what day it is today, right?"

"Uh, not really. I've been stressed this week with schoolwork." I said.

"Oh, cause I thought if you knew what day is today, it would make this thing a bit more special." He said as he pulled something out of his robes.

He pulled a small box out and placed it in my hand. "Happy Birthday, 'Mione."

Wait, it's my birthday? I must've forgotten about it because of the work. I opened the box, which held a silver chain with a blue stone in it. It was really pretty.

"That's a sapphire in the pedant." Y/N said as he saw me looking at the stone. "It's the gemstone for the month of September."

"Woah, Y/N, it looks really nice, but I don't know if I can accept this. It's a really good gift." I said.

"Come on, it's your birthday!" Y/N said. "It should be ok for you to accept it. Besides, you did give me this watch, so i thought it would be nice to do something like that." He says with an adorable smile.

"I guess that's fair then." I said with a smile of my own. How could I say no? He was one of the first friends I ever had along with his sister. Especially with that smile.

"Do you want me to put it around your neck?" Y/N asked which I nodded.

I put my bushy hair to the right side of my body as I had my back to Y/N. I felt the chains being connected from his warm hands. As the chain was connected around my neck, I turned around to him and asked, " So how does it look on me?"

Y/N looked at me and he blushed as he said, "Vraiment mignon."

I squinted my eyes as I heard the words come out of his mouth. "What did you say?" I asked.

"Oh, sorry." He said as he blushed even more. "I speak French sometimes, something my mum taught me before. Do you want to know what I said?"

I giggled as he spoke shyly. "Yes, silly." He then muttered something underneath his breath. "Hm?" I asked as I looked at him with a little smirk.

"R-really c-cute." He stuttered out.

'That was really sweet of him to say that.' I thought to myself. 'I've got to see about French myself.'

As he got up from the couch, I went over to him and hugged him tight which made his blush grow even more.

"Thank you, Y/N. This is one of the best gifts I've ever gotten. I love it." I said as I looked up to him since he was a little taller than I am.

His lips formed a small smile as he placed his chin on my head. "I'm glad you love it, 'Mione. I am really glad I met you here."

I giggled once again. "I'm glad I met you too, Y/N. Come on, we have to get to breakfast." I said as I took his hand and we ran off to the Great Hall.

(A/N 2: I don't know a lot of French, this was part of Y/N's and Lana's ancestry which will be revealed in Chamber of Secrets. Hopefully I didn't say anything that wasn't what Y/N meant.)
