Chapter 36: Quidditch World Cup
Hermione POV
I woke up early in the morning since Mrs. Weasley mentioned we have to be up at the crack of dawn and started to get everything ready. As I got up from my bed, I saw Y/N peacefully sleeping in his bed. I guess he didn't have a nightmare. He does look cute when he's asleep. I didn't really want to really wake him up, but I had to.
"Hey, Y/N," I said softly as I shook him lightly. "Time to wake up."
"Mhmm..." He groaned in his sleep. "Ten more minutes, sweetheart."
I blushed for a moment. He hasn't called me anything other than Hermione, 'Mione and Belle from the last Hogwarts trip. I kinda grinned for a moment as I said, "Sweetheart?"
His eyes opened wide as he quickly shot out of the bed. "Um, nothing!" He said. "Nothing!"
"Really?" I smirked again. "You seemed to have a pleasant dream."
"Yeah, I guess." He said. "Better than those damn nightmares..."
"Way better." I said as I sat down next to him. "I don't want you to keep getting those. I can't bear seeing you in a shocked state like that."
He smiled at me and he took my hand. "I know. Hopefully no more nightmares. Only good dreams..."
"Come on," I said. "I'll wait for you to get ready and then, we'll wake up everyone else." He side-hugged me for a quick moment, stood up, got his clothes and went to get ready.
As I waited for him, Snuffles woke up, climbed up and jumped into my arms, chirping happily as he saw me. "Hey, Snuffles." I said as I smiled at the Niffler and rubbed him. Suddenly, he looked around and looked back as he chirped again. He must have been looking for Y/N. "Oh, Dad is getting ready, he'll be here soon with us, okay?" I said.
"I know you love us both," I whispered. "I love you and Y/N just as much."
Snuffles snuggled himself closer to me as I giggled and continued to stroke his fur.
"Alright, I'm ready!" Y/N said as he came outside the room. He wore his usual overcoat, as it was his favorite, along with a blue plaid button up shirt, dark blue jeans, a nice set of trainers and he had just slipped on his glasses. He kinda looked... hot. I wore a pink collared shirt, a beige jacket, dark jeans and trainers.
Snuffles chirped happily as he saw him and Y/N smiled as he walked back to us. "Morning, Snuffles. I see you got to Mum." He said kindly as I giggled again at him. I absolutely loved to do this with him, being parents to a Niffler. I kind of had the feeling of kissing him right on his lips. I didn't really have a problem with it, I've already kissed him twice, but I was still nervous. Hopefully, this year I can tell him how I feel about him and confess that I'm in love with him. "Hey, 'Mione?" He said, breaking me out of my trance. "Shouldn't we wake up everyone?"
"Oh, yes!" I said. "I nearly forgot! Come on, Snuffles, you can go in my bag. There should be a pocket big enough for you and for us to see you."
Snuffles ran over to my bag and quickly found a pocket suitable for his size as I hung my bag on my shoulder. As we entered Ron and Harry's room, we saw Harry was shaking in his bed.
"Harry!" I said as I walked to him as he shot up from his bed. "Are you alright?"
"Hermione, Y/N." He said as he still panicked. "Bad dream."
Y/N walked to Ron's bed and shook him. "Oi, Ron. Time to wake up!" Ron groaned in his sleep. "Aghh." Y/N said. "You get to see your man crush, Krum today."
Suddenly Ron shot up with a grin on his face. "Good, that seemed to get you up. Krum still sucks, in my opinion. Mrs. Weasley says breakfast is ready."
~Timeskip to an hour later~
An hour later, we all were ready to go and we started walking towards our destination.
"Where are we actually going?" Harry asked us.
"Don't know," Ron said. "Hey Dad! Where are we going?
"Haven't gotten the foggiest!" Mr. Weasley said. "Keep up!"
We walked for hours on end with no apparent end in sight. No stops whatsoever. Percy, Bill and Charlie were all apparating there, lucky them.
"I suppose we're taking a Portkey, then?" Y/N said.
"The Cup is miles away," Lana said. "It would be the wisest decision."
"You are most certainly right!" Mr. Weasley said.
I started to get a little tired from walking, so Y/N offered to carry me and my things since he wasn't getting tired.
"Are you sure?" I asked him. "Won't I just tire you carrying me on your back?"
"I'll be fine, 'Mione." He said. "Besides, I don't mind. I'm not really carrying much anyway."
"How come?" I said. "We're all carrying something, you, Lana and Luna aren't carrying much."
"Oh, we have Undetectable Extension Charms in our coats." Lana said as she was wearing a coat similar to her brother's. "We offered to carry some of Luna's stuff, but she said she won't carry much."
"I like to not carry a lot of things." Luna said with a smile on her face.
(A/N: Why is Luna so freaking adorable GAHHHH she's literally so cute and precious. I would protect her with my life. Lana and her are Ravenclaw QUEENS. Hermione is our Gryffindor QUEEN. Now I'm rambling, but RAVENCLAW PRIDE HERE!!)
"May I?" Y/N asked me, pointing to my bag as I nodded. He lifted the bag from my shoulder and put it on his shoulder. He adjusted it to his body as Snuffles chirped at him happily. I jumped into his back as I wrapped my arms around his neck and slid my legs into his arms and we continued to walk along.
Soon enough, we arrived at the village of Ottery St. Catchpole near the top of Stoatshead Hill.
"Whew!" Mr. Weasley said. "Well, we've made good time -- we have 10 minutes."
"You okay back there, 'Mione?" Y/N asked as he turned his head a little.
"Yeah, I'm okay." I said. "You didn't have to carry me."
"True," Y/N said. "But you were getting tired after two hours and I felt like I had to."
"Still," I said again. "I appreciate it... sweetheart." I grinned as he blushed madly. "You're not gonna let that go, are you, Granger?"
"Not at all, Lovegood. Whatcha gonna do about it?" I said in his ear and kissed his cheek. I didn't have to look behind me to know Lana was smiling.
"Over here, Arthur!" Someone called out. "Over here, son, we've got it!" Two figures came over the hill, one had a scrubby brown beard holding a manky old boot. The other one looked very familiar.
"Amos!" Mr. Weasley called back as he shook the man's free hand while I dropped off Y/N's back. "This is Amos Diggory, everyone! He works for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. And I think you all know his son, Cedric?"
(A/N: BATMAN BEFORE TWLIGHT!)
Oh, now I remember him! He was the Hufflepuff Seeker and Team Captain at Hogwarts and every girl fawned over him. Well, every girl except me. I had a certain someone in my mind.
"Hi," Cedric said as he nervously waved to all of us. Everyone else said hello, but the Weasley twins didn't since they were still bitter about that last Quidditch match.
"Long walk, Arthur?" Mr. Diggory asked.
"Not too bad," Mr. Weasley said. "We live just on the other side of the village there. You?"
"Had to get up at two, didn't we, Ced? I tell ya, I'll be glad when he's got his Apparition test. Still... not complaining... Quidditch World Cup, wouldn't miss it for a sackful of Galleons -- and the tickets cost about that. Mind you, looks like I got off easy..."
He looked around all of us and asked, "All these yours, Arthur?"
"Oh no, Only the redheads." Mr. Weasley assured. "This is Hermione, friend of Ron's, Y/N, Lana and Luna also friends with Ron, -- and Harry, another friend--"
Before he could finish, Mr. Diggory's eyes widened. "Merlin's beard. Harry? Harry Potter? And these two?" He said as he walked towards Y/N and Lana. "Addison's son and daughter?"
"You know our mum?" Lana asked him.
"Of course I do!" He said with a smile. "Your mum would always tell me about the two of you. Both Lovegood twins managed to make Lucius Malfoy whipped. Malfoy's a bit of a prick around the Ministry. Ced's talk about Harry, of course. Told us all about playing against him last year... I said to him, I said -- Ced, that'll be something to tell your grandchildren, that will... You beat Harry Potter!"
Cedric looked a little embarrassed. "Harry fell off his broom, Dad." He said. "I told you... it was an accident."
"Yes, but you didn't fall off, did you?" Amos bellowed, embarrassing him even more. "Always modest, our Ced, always the gentleman... but the best man won, I'm sure Harry's say the same, wouldn't you, eh? One falls off his broom, one stays on, you don't need to be a genius to tell which one's the better flier!"
Before Amos could go on more, Mr. Weasley stopped him. "Must be nearly time," he said as he pulled out a watch. "Do you know whether we're waiting for more, Amos?"
"The Fawcetts couldn't get tickets." Amos told him. "There aren't any more of us in this area, are there?"
"Not that I know of. Yes it's a minute off... We'd better get ready..."
He looked at all of us. "You need to touch the Portkey, that's all, a finger will do--"
Mr. Diggory placed down the boot as we all laid down on the ground, placing a finger on the boot.
"Three..." Mr. Weasley said. "Two... one..."
Suddenly, we were all lifted off the ground and began to spin around in a circle. After we spun for a while, Mr. Weasley yelled, "Let go, kids!"
"What??" I said.
"Let! Go!" As we heard him, we all let go and eventually we all slammed on the ground. I managed to slam onto the ground and landed on something as I heard a voice say, "Seven past five from Stoatshead Hill."
Y/N POV
"Um, Hermione?" I said as I began to raise myself but I couldn't. She raised her head a little to find herself on top of me. She must have landed on me as both of us were blushing madly. "Uhh, hi." She said nervously.
"Hi." I said in the same nervous tone. She was right on top of me and her face was right in front of mine. "Should we get up?"
"Oh, oh yes." She said as she stood up and helped me up.
"You two alright?" Cedric said to us. "Quite a landing, wasn't it?"
Cedric was surprisingly really friendly. He didn't make any moves at all on Hermione, he had just come and talked to us.
"I guess so, mate." I said.
"You're one of the Chasers for Gryffindor, right?" He said. "Pretty good for a chaser, I tell you that."
"Thank you for that!" I said as he offered his hand to shake. "Not bad of a Seeker for Hufflepuff, ain't ya?"
"That's right," He chuckled. "Right, I won't keep you and your girlfriend long, just wanted to make some small talk. See ya, mate." He then left with a pat on my shoulder and went off with his dad as Hermione was blushing again as she went to Lana to help her while Luna came to me.
"I swear everyone thinks we're dating," I said to her. "I mean, we've gone on dates... and we've snogged twice... but she's not my girlfriend!"
"Don't you want her to be, Y/N?" Luna asked curiously.
"I mean..." I said. "Yes, I do want her to be my girlfriend, but I'm nervous about it, Luna. Whenever we have a moment together, we don't get to finish what we were about to say! I need to find the right place and right time to tell her how I feel."
"You should be confident, Y/N." Luna said as we walked with everyone and Mr. Weasley. "You should tell her when the moment feels special to you and her. You and her are very close, so perhaps a moment where it is just the both of you alone by yourselves."
I looked at her and she slowly turned her head and smiled at me. "That's actually really good advice, Luna." I said. "I'll keep that in mind. It's really brilliant!"
Luna kept her radiant yet adorable smile on her face. "Of course. You and Lana are practically my older brother and sister."
"Then I'm glad we have you as our younger sister."
We had made the tent by Muggle ways since Mr. Weasley wanted to do it that way. I knew some Muggle things like pounds, electricity and other things like this, so I had a good understanding of it. As we entered the inside of our tent, it was way bigger on the inside.
Mr. Weasley counted us all to make sure we had a good number. "Okay, so we got 5 boys and 4 girls. Someone has to sleep in the girls tent, I believe."
Practically all the boys looked at me as they all unanimously non-verbally voted for me to go. "Guess that will be me." I said.
"Right then!" Mr. Weasley announced. "Girls and Y/N, choose your bunks. Ron, get out of the kitchen, we're all hungry."
"Yeah, get out of the Kitchen, Ron!" The twins beckoned.
"Feet off the table!"
"Feet off the table!" The twins said as they removed their legs for an instant before putting them back.
As I walked into the girl's bunks, there was a bit of a problem. There were 4 beds, but one could have let two people sleep in it. "Oh, great." I said to myself.
"So," Ginny said. "I'm guessing Luna, Lana and I take the 3 beds and Y/N and Hermione can share that bed."
"I mean, I don't mind." Hermione said as she took my hand, which always seemed to calm my worries almost instantly. "Do you?"
"I don't mind either." I said. At least I don't have to hear the boys talk about Hermione and I when I'll sleep tonight. I might hear their thoughts, but only Lana and I can hear them.
Hermione, Lana and I then stepped out of our section where Mr. Weasley was instructing us on what to do. "Well, why don't you, Harry, Hermione and the Lovegood twins go and get us some water," he said to Ron as he handed over a kettle and a couple of saucepans. "And the rest of us will get some wood for a fire?"
"But we've got an oven," Ron retorted to his father. "Why can't we just --"
"Ron, anti-Muggle technology!" Mr. Weasley said with glee. "When real Muggles camp, they cook on fires outdoors. I've seen them at it!"
"Don't worry about the fire, Mr. Weasley," I said. "Lana and I can take care of it."
"Oh, that's good then!" Mr. Weasley said. "Guess we just get enough firewood."
We ventured through the madness, where more people had camped around the site. Some people were cooking, some conjured fires and some were deep in conversation.
"Er -- is it my eyes, or has everything gone green?" Ron said. From behind us, a familiar Irish lad had called out our names.
"Harry! Ron! Y/N! Hermione! Lana!" Seamus Finnigan, our fellow Gryffindor announced, followed by someone, presumably his mother and Dean Thomas.
"Like the decoration?" he asked. "The Ministry's not too happy."
"You know my saying to that," I chuckled. "Screw whatever Fudge thinks."
"Ah, why shouldn't we show our colors?" said Mrs. Finnigan. "You should see what the Bulgarians have got dangling all over their tents. You'll be supporting Ireland, of course?"
"Oh, my brother and I are, Mrs. Finnigan." Lana said.
"Me too!" Hermione added.
"Like we'd say anything else surrounded by that lot." Ron said as we left them.
"I wonder what the Bulgarians have got dangling all over their tents?" Hermione asked.
Suddenly, we came across a poster of a man who was moving, but all it did was blink and scowl.
"Krum." Ron said.
"What?" Hermione asked.
"Oh, not this nonsense." I said as I facepalmed.
"Krum!" Ron said. "Victor Krum, the Bulgarian Seeker!"
"You know what's funny," I said. "Everything I see his stupid face, I have the urge to swear and flip the bird."
"Y/N!" Hermione scolded.
Ron continued to go on about his man crush as we moved on. We met up with Oliver Wood, our old Quidditch Captain, who introduced us to his parents and told us he signed to the Puddlemere United reserve team. We also met up with Ernie Macmillan and Cho Chang, who talked with Luna and Lana, and formally introduced herself to me along with a hug, which, from the corner of my eye, earned her a glare from Hermione.
We passed by some teenagers, but what brought my surprise was a small girl, about the age of eight and was looking around wildly, as if she was lost. I told the others I'd try to help her as Hermione and Lana followed me. As the girl looked at us, she looked scared.
(A/N: This would be them talking in french like this "Are you okay?")
"Hey, hey," I comforted her. "Are you okay? Are you lost?"
"Who are you?" She said. "Where is my sister?"
"Oh, you speak French?" Lana said. "Sorry, one second. I'm Lana. That's my brother, Y/N and our friend, Hermione."
"What's your name?" Hermione asked since she could speak and understand French.
"My name is Gabrielle Delacour." The girl said. "My sister's name is Fleur Delacour."
"Gabrielle?" I said as she nodded. "That's a nice name. Don't worry, we'll help you find your sister."
Gabrielle smiled as she took Hermione's hand, who had offered it to her. We told Ron and Harry that we would help her and they should go back to the camp. Moments later, we heard someone call out Gabrielle's name.
"Gabrielle?!" The voice called out. "Gabrielle, where are you?"
"Fleur!" Gabrielle said as an older girl came looking and smiled as she laid her eyes on Gabrielle.
"Oh, thank goodness!" Fleur said. "Where were you?"
"I was lost, but these nice people helped me find you."
Fleur looked up at us and I got a good look at her. She was quite beautiful, and really pretty, but I felt Hermione was much more beautiful than her.
"Do you speak English?" Fleur said in a French accent as we nodded. "Thank you for finding my sister. What are your names?"
"I'm Lana." Lana said. "That's my brother, Y/N and Hermione, our friend."
"Thank you so much." Fleur said. "I hope we see you again."
"Same to the both of you." I said. "Take care, Gabrielle. Stay close to your sister. Bye!"
"Bye!" We heard Gabrielle say as we left.
"That was nice of you to do." Hermione said. "But did you see how pretty that girl, Fleur was? I'm surprised you didn't fall for her."
"Hermione, are you jealous?" I asked with a grin. "Besides, there's someone else I know who's more pretty than her. She has brown eyes, bushy brown hair and is very brilliant." She blushed madly as she joined her arm with mine and put her head on my shoulder.
Lana POV
We arrived back at the camp to find Mr. Weasley struggled with the matchsticks. A lot of matches were on the ground as Y/N and I looked at each other. Y/N looked at Hermione as he gestured to Mr. Weasley and she let go of his arm and sat down on a seat, waiting for him.
"Here, Mr. Weasley," He said as he joined me next to him. "Check this out."
We raised our hands and muttered some words, causing our hands to light on fire, causing everyone to nearly freak out. Hermione almost looked like she had a heart attack.
"Woah, woah!" I said. "Don't worry about this." I said, gesturing the fire in our hands. "It's not burning us, and it won't burn us at all." We both nodded at each other and took the fire to the wood, causing it to burn and start a fire. We quickly stopped the fire in our hands and put them back before the fire burnt us.
"Oh, that's quite an interesting trick!" Mr. Weasley said.
"It should be hot enough to cook anything too," Y/N added as he sat down next to Hermione as I sat down with Luna. Hermione took Y/N's hand and examined it and did the same for me. She looked up in disbelief and asked, "How on earth did you do that?"
"Another surprise from Grindelwald," I said. "He was also a master of Elemental Magic. Mum thought us some of that, and Newt and Tina said they would see how to apply that in combat."
As soon as we began to cook our eggs and sausages, Bill, Charlie and Percy came out of the woods next to us. "Just Apparated, Dad." Percy said proudly. "Ah, excellent, Lunch!"
"Wonderful deduction, Percy," Y/N said. "Want a cookie? Cause you're such a master of the obvious."
Another man came around as Mr. Weasley announced his arrival. "The man of the moment! Ludo!"
"Ahoy there!" Bagman shouted happily as he walked to the campsite. "Arthur, old man, what a day, eh? What a day! Could we have asked for more perfect weather? A cloudless night coming... and hardly a hiccup in the arrangement... not much for me to do!"
"Ah -- yes." Mr. Weasley said as Percy ran to Bagman in hopes to make a good impression. "This is my son Percy -- He's just started at the Ministry - and this is Fred - no, George, sorry - that's Fred - Bill, Charlie, Ron - my daughter, Ginny - and Ron's friends, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Y/N, Lana and Luna Lovegood."
Bagman looked at everyone, especially Harry due to his infamous scar.
"Everyone," Mr. Weasley said. "This is Ludo Bagman, you know who he is, it's thanks to him we've got such good tickets--"
"Fancy a flutter on the match, Arthur?" Bagman asked immediately as he pulled out a bag of gold in his pockets, which got Snuffles' attention as he stared at it.
"Snuffles," Hermione cooed in a motherly tone. "We do not take shiny things from others, okay?" Snuffles looked down as he was denied from the gold and Y/N reached into his pocket and pulled out a Galleon, which made Snuffles happy again as he stuffed it in his belly pouch.
"I've got Roddy Pontner betting me Bulgaria will score first -- I offered him nice odds, considering Ireland's front three are the strongest I've seen in years" Bagman rambled. "-- and little Agatha Timms has half shares in her eel farm on a week-long match!"
"Oh... go on then," Mr. Weasley said. "Let's see... a Galleon on Ireland to win?
"A Galleon? Very well, very well... any other takers?" He asked us.
"They're a bit young to be gambling," Mr. Weasley said. "Molly wouldn't like --"
"We'll bet 37 Galleons, 15 Sickles and 3 Knuts." Fred said as George and him pooled their money, "that Ireland wins -- But Viktor Krum gets the Snitch. Oh, and we'll throw in a fake wand."
"We'd like to join in on this too!" Y/N and I said as Hermione playfully hit Y/N. "We bet 150 galleons that Ireland wins too, but by a score of 170 and Bulgaria by 160. Just a guess."
"You don't want to go showing Mr. Bagman rubbish like that --" Percy said before Bagman bellowed with laughter.
"Excellent! I haven't seen two like that convincing in years! I'd pay five galleons for that and ten for that score prediction!"
Percy had a mental look of internal screaming and instant confusion.
As the adults continued to talk about the match, Percy went on about Barty Crouch, who Ron had called his man crush since we made fun of him and Krum.
"Mr. Crouch?" Percy asked, "He speaks over two-hundred languages! Mermish and Gobbledegook and Troll..."
"Anyone can speak Troll," Fred said, annoyed at Percy. "All you have to point and grunt."
As Bagman prepared to get ready for the Top Box, he mentioned something happening at Hogwarts which caught all of our attention. "What's happening at Hogwarts, Mr. Weasley?" I asked him.
"You'll find out soon enough," Mr. Weasley said with a smile.
"It's classified information," Percy, the incompetent Ministry lover said. "Until such time as the Ministry decides to release it. Mr. Crouch was quite right not to disclose it."
"Oh shut up, Weatherby." Fred, Y/N and I said in annoyance while Fred high-fived my brother.
"Please speak like a normal person," Y/N urged. "Not like someone with something stuck up their--"
"Y/N!" Hermione said, who couldn't stop her giggle at the same time.
"Oh, sorry about that, 'Mione." He said as he looked at her and her expression softened as he smiled at her.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Been saving my pocket money all summer for this," Ron said as he bought a small figure of Viktor Krum. Y/N watched the figure as his teeth gritted. "Why must you torture me with this damn figure." He asked him.
"You may want to keep it away, Ron," I said to him. "He really hates Krum. If he ever got the chance, I bet he'd sock him right in the face, like Mafloy." As Ron looked at Y/N and put the figure in his pocket. We had all bought merch for Ireland, while Ron bought them for Bulgaria. Y/N, Hermione and I bought scarfs for Ireland while Harry had painted his face. Ron just painted his face red for Bulgaria.
"Wow, look at these!" Harry said as he looked at some binocular-like devices but in brass with all sorts of knobs and dials.
"Those are Omnioculars," I said to him.
"Right you are, young lady!" The saleswizard said eagerly. "You can replay action . . . slow everything down . . . and they flash up a play-by-play breakdown if you need it. Bargain - ten Galleons each."
"Wish I hadn't bought this now," Ron said as he looked at the Krum figure.
Y/N and I looked at each other and pooled our money and said, "Six pairs."
"No -- Don't bother," Ron told us.
"Nah, it's alright mate." Y/N said as he passed him the pair. "Better than the figure, right? Here you go, 'Mione." He said as he passed another pair to her and one to Harry.
"Aw, Y/N, Lana, you didn't have to buy these for us," Hermione said. "And six pairs too?"
"Don't worry about it, Hermione," Y/N said. "Think of it as an early birthday present. I do have something special for your birthday, too." Hermione smiled at him and hugged him again as he returned it happily and kissed her forehead. "Oh, and we bought one for Luna too."
Mr. Weasley came around with Ginny, Fred, George and the other Weasleys. However, Mr. Weasley and Ginny were the most excited. "It's time!" he said. "Come on, let's go!"
