Chapter 28: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Y/N POV

The next day, I woke up in the Great Hall with Hermione resting right next to me. The Common Room would be open today and someone named "Sir Cadogan", so we were able to go back in. But strangely enough, Snowball was next to me, who somehow got the notebook that Hermione gave me in second year and had it filled open to a page.

Since she was a very intelligent cat and noticed Hermione was on me, she put her paw on the page, ripped it out with her claws, brought it over in her mouth and placed it in my hand.

"Clever girl..." I said as I stroked her fur.

Snowball purred and went back to watch Snuffles sleeping. I went to look at the note while Hermione was still snuggling into me. From what I managed to see, the note read.

Grandfather wants to see us early today. Says he has a surprise for us that we are sure to love. Training's going to run long so let Hermione know we are going to be there a little later. Password's Sherbet Lemon.

Lana

"Mmm, Y/N?" Hermione stirred as she lifted her head. "Good morning. What are you reading?" She got up from my chest as I sat up. Snuffles managed to wake up once she did and ran into her arms. "Morning, Snuffles." She cooed to the baby Niffler as she planted a tiny kiss on him. "Hi, Snowball! I didn't forget about you too." She said as Snowball came closer and nuzzled her head on our arms.

"Oh, just a note from Lana." I said as other students, including Harry and Ron woke up. "Dumbledore wanted to see us early. So I've got to get there. We might be a little late."

She made a small pout as she heard that. "Oh, but I'll see you there, right? Cause of the you-know-what?" She put her finger on my chest where the Time Turner laid, which Ron and Harry grinned at as they were watching before I gave them a glare.

"Yeah, we'll be there with it." I said. "I better get ready and get there. I'll see you soon, 'Mione. You think you can take care of Snuffles and Snowball then?"

"Of course!" Hermione said as she still held Snuffles. "He practically loves us like we're his parents." As she finished, we both blushed as I waved goodbye and smiled at them. Before I left the Great Hall to get changed, Ron and Harry walked with me.

"So," Ron said with a grin. "What were you and 'Mione talking about?"

"What are you talking about, mate?" I laughed for a moment.

"You know, Y/N," Harry said with a smirk. "She put her finger directly at your chest and was really close to you."

"Harry, get those thoughts out of your head!" I said to him as I lightly smacked him on the head. "Alright, I'll be back soon, I have to get ready."

Ron looked curiously at Harry and then back to me. "For what?" He asked. "Classes don't start yet."

I looked back at the confused boys. "Yes, I know. You'll see soon."

I returned to the Common Room, put on my robes and as I proceeded to leave, I heard a strange voice in my head.

'Thank Merlin he didn't find me!' It said. 'Good thing I'm small enough so I can run away.'

'What the hell?' I thought to myself. 'Who the hell is speaking?'

The voice didn't speak again, so I ignored it and made my way to Dumbledore's office. I approached the entrance, which was a literal Griffin Door, and said, "Sherbet Lemon" causing the door to move, revealing Dumbledore, Lana and an older man and woman, but looked younger than Dumbledore himself.

"Ah, Y/N." Dumbledore said with a twinkle in his eye. "So glad you can join us."

"The pleasure is all mine, Grandfather." I said s I joined my sister facing the mysterious couple. Lana's eyes were wide open, staring at the two, but they didn't seem to mind.

'Um, Lana?' I said to her in her head. 'Why are you staring at them so much?'

'Just wait and see who they are, bro.' Lana said back.

"I'm sure you are wondering who these two wonderful people are." Dumbledore said. "Allow me to introduce to you two vital players when your biological grandfather was rising in power. I'm very sure you know their names. Let me introduce: Newt and Tina Scamander."

Now hold on a bloody minute!

Newt and Tina Scamander!?!

As in the author of Fantastic Beasts and One of the best Aurors in America!?

I could nearly faint if I wanted to.

"You're- you're Newt and Tina?" I stuttered as Lana watched my expression.

"Yes, we are." Tina said with a smile as she came closer and shook our hands. "You must be Y/N and Lana."

"Dumbledore has told us so much about you both." Newt said as he approached us.

"You're not mad?" Lana said. "Our grandfather was who you were fighting against."

"Of course not." Newt said. "From what we've heard from Dumbledore, you both have tried to stop Voldemort with Harry Potter. You've shown you both aren't following in Grindelwald's dark path."

"Dumbledore asked us to help you both with your training." Tina said, her American accent still being evident, to us. "I was in the Auror department in America for a long time before I met Newt, so I will teach you anything I can from then and from Grindelwald's battles."

"As for me," Newt said as he put his famous briefcase on a table. "The creatures I care for and studied have helped us in their own accord, so I will teach you bits of that as well." He reached his hand into his pocket and pulled something out. He threw his hand and a creature magically transformed from a small ball into what we know is a Swooping Evil. The creature flew around us in a circle before returning into Newt's hand.

"Is that a Swooping Evil?" We asked excitedly as he nodded happily.

"I told you, Newt." Dumbledore said with a smile. "They are very fascinated with Magical Creatures."

Newt smiled back. "Well, we're going to have an amazing time together!"

"After we get their training done first, Newt." Tina said kindly as she pecked Newt's cheek. Kinda reminds me of Hermione doing the same. "We'll begin this aspect of training tomorrow. Right now, I imagine you both have classes to attend to, so we won't keep you long."

Lana and I smiled at each other and back at Tina and Newt. "Thank you, Mrs. Scamander." We said to her.

"Please, call me Tina. And you can call him Newt." She said warmly as she looked back at her husband. "We'll see you both soon."

We both left Dumbledore's office, pulled out our Time Turners, spun them the right amount of times and suddenly we were in Muggle Studies next to Hermione, who jumped a little as we arrived. Couple hours later, we arrived in Defense against the Dark Arts. Moments after we took our seats, the door opened to reveal someone who wasn't Remus.

It was Snape.

He barged in, took his wand and flicked it towards all the windows, causing them all to shut. As he arrived at the front, he pulled the screen and turned around quickly.

"Turn to page... Three-hundred and ninety...four." Snape said to us all.

Everyone murmured as Snape's presence was clearly not supposed to be here.

"Excuse me, sir." Harry said, who did not notice us arrive. "Where's Professor Lupin?"

"That's not really your concern, is it, Potter?" Snape sneered at him. "Suffice it to say your professor finds himself incapable of teaching... at the present time. Turn to page 394."

Everyone still waited until Snape turned around aggressively and flicked his wand at our books, causing it to turn to the page, where it read...

"Werewolves?" I said aloud to everyone's attention. What's Snape playing at? Does he know Remus is a werewolf?

"Sir, we just learned about red caps and hinkypunks." Hermione said. "We're not meant to start that for weeks."

"Quiet."

"Did you see them come in?" Ron asked Harry in front of us. "When did they come in?"

"Now, which one of you can tell me the difference..." Snape continued. "Between an Animagus and a werewolf."

Hermione and I looked at each other. Did Snape know that Lana and I are Animagi? To avert his attention on me, Hermione raised her hand to answer, but Snape ignored her.

"No one?" He said without turning around. "How disappointing."

"Please, Professor." Hermione pleaded as she took my hand. "An Animagus is a wizard who elects to turn into an animal. A werewolf has no choice. With each full moon, when he transforms, he no longer remembers who he is. Furthermore, the werewolf only responds to the call of it's own kind."

Across the classroom, Malfoy whistled like a wolf, earning the Slytherin's laughter.

"Thank you, Mr. Malfoy." Snape said. "That's the second time you've spoken out of turn, Miss Granger."

What the hell? This git knew Hermione raised her hand and chose to ignore her, but when Malfoy whistled, he just accepted it?! That hypocritical idiot.

I slammed my fist on the desk and rose from my seat. "What the hell is your problem, Snape?!" I said coldly. "Hermione answered your stupid question, but yet when Mouth boy over there..."

"What did you call me!" Malfoy said.

"SHUT UP!!" I yelled at him as my eye glowed. All the Slytherins cowered in fear. I put my attention back on Snape. "You just ignored what you said and allowed it? You're biased, you only give points to your own house, and take points from others?"

"Five points from Gryffindor, Mr. Lovegood." Snape said sternly.

"See what I mean?" I said again. "Proving my point."

"Would you prefer detention instead?" He sneered once more. I continued to stare at him as a means for him to see how truly pissed I am. My hands felt colder on the surface of the desk until I realized that I froze it.

Ice was starting to form under my hands. How was this possible?

"As an antidote to your ignorance, and on my desk, by Monday morning..." Snape said. "Two rolls of parchment on the werewolf, with emphasis on recognizing it." He didn't pull his eyes on me until he saw the ice on the desk. He looked back up and saw my anger, like Hell freezing over. He almost looked scared for a moment. I felt the ice break under my hands as I sat back down, but my hands felt so cold.

Hermione noticed my hands shaking, took her hands to mine and they started to warm up. She met my eyes and warmly smiled.

"Sir, it's Quidditch tomorrow." Harry retorted.

Snape then got closer to Harry's face. "Then I suggest you take extra care, Mr. Potter." He said. "Loss of limb will not excuse you. Page 394."

He then took a book and read from it. "The term, 'Werewolf' is a contraction of the Anglo-Saxon word 'wer'... which means 'man' and 'wolf'. Werewolf, man-wolf. There are several ways to become a werewolf. They include being given the power of shapeshifting...being bitten by a werewolf..."

Hermione POV

Today was Harry and Y/N's first match of our third year. Before they went down, Wood gathered the team in the Common Room. It was his last year here at Hogwarts, so he was determined to win this match.

"This is our last chance -- my last chance -- to win the Quidditch Cup." Wood announced to the team. "I'll be leaving at the end of this year. I'll never get another shot at it. Gryffinor hasn't won for 7 years now. Okay, so we've had the worst luck in the world , but we also know we've got the best -- ruddy -- team -- in -- the -- school."

"We've got three superb Chasers." Wood pointed at Y/N, Angelina Johnson and Katie Bell.

"Two Unbeatable Beaters." He said to the Weasley twins.

"Stop it, Oliver, you're embarrassing us." Fred and George joked.

"And we've got a Seeker who has never failed to win us a match!" Wood put his attention on Harry with loads of pride.

"We think you're very good too, Oliver." George said.

"Spanking good Keeper." Fred added.

"We'll do it, Oliver!" Angelina said.

"Definitely." Y/N and Harry added.

As they were on their way to the pitch, I pulled Y/N back. "Hey, something wrong?" He asked calmly.

"No, nothing's wrong." I said. "I just wanted to wish good luck to you." I said as I quickly pecked his cheek. "Snuffles and I will be there to cheer you and Harry on. Oh and another thing, can I see yours and Harry's glasses?"

"Yeah, sure." He said as he walked to Harry, asked for his glasses, came back and removed his too. With my wand, I muttered, "Impervius.", making them repel water. "There, that should help you both." I said as I unfolded his glasses and carefully put them back on his head.

"Oh, thanks for that, 'Mione. I look forward to seeing you both there." He said with a quick hug and a kiss on my forehead before he joined the team.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it seemed that Gryffindor wasn't playing against Slytherin since Malfoy's arm is still "broken". They were now playing Hufflepuff, who has a new captain and Seeker, Cedric Diggory. Nearly all the girls fawned over him, but not me. I didn't see it, since I fancied Y/N.

As the time came for the match, it was in rain so most of the players put on gear, but I knew Y/N's since the back of his uniform read "LOVEGOOD" on the back. Ron, Lana, Luna, Ginny and I walked down to the pitch, ready to see Harry and Y/N play, while Snuffles jumped onto my shoulder. As soon as Luna laid her eyes on him, she smiled with glee and asked me if she can hold him, which I agreed upon and let her.

"Don't worry, Snuffles." I said to the Niffler, who whimpered while I spoke in a motherly tone. "I'm still here. We'll see Y/N soon."

"It's nice you're looking after this Niffler with Y/N, Hermione." Luna said in her usual tone. "It's like you're both parents."

The statement made me blush. "Well, yes, but some people are dog parents in the Muggle world, so it won't be that different in the Wizarding World, right?" Lana and Ginny, who were with us, smirked at me as Lana nudged me a little. "Yeah, I guess that could make sense." Lana said. "The weather looks terrible, hope they're safe up there."

As the game went on, the weather got even worse. Gryffindor was doing well, but they needed to catch the Snitch. Due to it's small size, it was nowhere to be seen. Y/N had scored a lot of Quaffles into the hoops and Harry was looking for the Snitch. He kept searching until he noticed Cedric going after a golden flicker in the wind. With that, Harry flew off in that direction and above.

Unfortunately, a flock of Dementors followed him and Y/N noticed so he flew up after him. I would yell, but everyone else was screaming at the top of their lungs except for us. All I could do is hope he could hear me in my head.

'Please be safe, Y/N.' I thought. 'Please be safe for me.'

Moments later, someone flew out of the sky while something else fell the other way. I thought it was Y/N, until I saw him come out with his hand outstretched and his helmet removed. This must mean that the person falling is Harry. From the other side, I saw Dumbledore stand up and doing the same thing as Y/N. Suddenly, Harry's body slowed down as Y/N slung his broom to the side and fell off to check on Harry. Cedric, who had actually caught the snitch, saw what happened and requested a rematch since this wasn't fair.

I ran down the stairs as Lana, Luna, Ron and Ginny ran after me to check on the both of them. As I found Y/N standing next to Harry, I ran to him, which grabbed his attention as I pushed myself on his body. "I thought I lost you." I muttered into his chest.

"I'm not going anywhere, 'Mione." He said as he returned the hug. "I'm still gonna be here with you."

What would I give right now to just kiss him on the lips!? I just wanted to kiss him right now.

"Is Harry okay?" I asked.

"He's knocked out." He said. "The Dementors were all around him and his broom fell into the Whomping Willow."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Harry POV

I woke up in the hospital wing where I found Ron, Y/N, Lana and Hermione standing next to me. Y/N was being treated as he was bleeding from his nose and his head when Hermione was watching him

"How are you feeling?" Ron said. "You gave us a right good scare."

"What happened?" I groaned.

"Well, you fell off your broom." Ron said. "Y/N and Dumbledore saved you.

"Really?" I asked. "I meant the match, who won?"

"Hufflepuff did." Y/N said. "Cedric wanted to have a rematch since you were distracted by the Dementors. Nice chap, by the way."

"No one blames you, Harry." Hermione said. "Dementos aren't supposed to be on the grounds. Dumbledore's furious. After Y/N and him saved you, he sent them off."

"There's something else you should know, Harry." Y/N said. "When you fell, your broom sort of blew into the Whomping Willow, and...well, you know the tree. When I went to get it, it threw me back and caused these cuts on my face."

Snuffles, his Niffler, was in his arms snuggling up to him as Hermione sat next to him and held on to his hand. Ron reached for a bag under my bed and turned it upside down, revealing my now broken and splintered broomstick.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A couple days later, Professor Lupin came back from wherever he was from to everyone's delight. He was severely confused as to why Snape assigned homework.

"It's not fair, he was only filling in, why should he give us homework?"

"We don't know anything about werewolves --

"Two rolls of parchment!"

"Did you tell Professor Snape we haven't covered them yet?" Lupin asked.

"Yes, but he said we were really behind --"

"Wouldn't listen!"

"Two rolls of parchment!"

Lupin smiled. "Don't worry. I'll speak to Professor Snape. You don't have to do the essay."

"Oh no," Hermione said. "Y/N and I already finished it!"

"And I put every ounce of werewolf knowledge I had." Y/N said, which was a little curious since he questioned why Snape was teaching us about werewolves.

After the class, Lupin held me back to talk about the dementors. "I'm sorry about your broomstick. Is there any chance of fixing it?"

"No." I sighed. "Professor, why do the dementors affect me so? I mean, more than everyone else?"

"Listen." Lupin directed. "Dementors are the foulest creatures to walk this earth. They feed on every good feeling, every happy memory...until a person is left with absolutely nothing but his or her worst experiences. You are not weak, Harry. Dementors affect you most because there are true horrors in your past. Horrors your classmates can scarcely imagine. You have nothing to be ashamed of."

"I'm scared, Professor." I said.

"I'd consider you a fool if you weren't."

"I need to know how to fight them." I continued. "You could teach me! You made the ones on the train go away."

"There were the only ones that night."

"But you made it go away."

"I don't pretend to be an expert, Harry," Lupin said. "But as the dementors seem to have developed an interest in you... perhaps I should teach you. But after the holidays. Now now, I need to rest."

"What about Y/N and Lana?" I asked. "The dementors affected them that night too."

"Oh, trust me, Harry." Lupin said with a smile. "They're going to learn this skill too. Just not with me."

Y/N POV

While Remus was having a chat with Harry, Hermione pulled me to the side where no one saw us. I was nervous when her face was close to mine, and as she realized that, she backed up a little and said, "You're hiding something."

"What?" I said nervously. "What are you talking about?" Did she figure out how I truly feel about her? My heart was beating so fast, I thought Hermione could hear it.

"I mean Professor Lupin." She said, crossing her arms together. "When Snape mentioned werewolves, you looked shocked as if he uncovered something and you know more about werewolves than all of us. I've read your essay."

"Well, you know me," I said. "I like Magical Creatures, werewolves are a part of that!"

"Y/N Lovegood, I swear to Merlin, if you're lying to me..." She said, which honestly did scare me.

"Okay, okay!" I said. "I'm sorry, but we had to keep that a secret, it's for him to be safe!"

Hermione changed from her angry expression to a softer expression. "So he really is a werewolf?"

"Yeah, it's something me, Lana and Mum knew." I said. "Wait, how do you know?"

"Before I ran after you with the Boggart situation, Lupin's turned into a moon." She said. "And when Snape gave us the essay, I figured since he knew too."

"I'm really sorry, Hermione." I said. "He's my godfather, we had to keep that secret from anyone. We needed to keep him safe."

"No, I'm sorry." She said as she came closer. "I practically forced you into telling me that and I'm so, so sorry. I shouldn't have done that."

"It's fine, 'Mione." I said as I hugged her. "But please don't tell anyone about this."

"I promise." She said as she returned the hug and looked up at me. I don't know what happened after that, but I stood there looking into Hermione's beautiful brown eyes and our heads began to turn in the opposite direction as we leaned into each other, nearly about to do what I thought we were, but then...

"What are you two doing?" Harry asked behind us. We both widened our eyes and flinched back to Harry, who stood there just looking at us. We quickly let go of each other and looked back at him.

"Nothing! Nothing!" I said quickly.

"We were talking about Snuffles!" Hermione added.

"Okay then." He said. "We should get back to the Common Room."
"Um, yeah sure, mate." I said, silent cursing that he interrupted us before turning back to Hermione. "Should we talk later about this?" I asked her.

"Yeah, Hogsmeade?" She asked.

"Works with me." I said with a kind smile which she returned.

Now time to wait for the next Hogsmeade trip...

Which was before Winter break.

Crap.
