Chapter 27: Hogsmeade Date
Y/N POV
A month later, The Hogsmeade visit came around and I felt a bit nervous. Why?
Cause it's going to just be me and Hermione.
No Ron, he's going around with Dean and Seamus.
No Harry, he's staying back since the Sirius Black situation.
And No Lana, who made sure that we weren't interrupted with our date.
Wait, was it a date? Cause technically, Hermione asked me out to Hogsmeade, so it might be?
"Remember, these visits to Hogsmeade village are a privilege." Grandma said. "Should your behavior reflect poorly on the school... that privilege shall not be extended again. No permission form signed, no visiting the village."
Hermione stood next to me, dressed ready for Hogsmeade as she intertwined her fingers with mine. It was a little chilly, so she wore the jacket Ginny gave her and she also carried the Polaroid I gave her. She looked really cute in them.
"Those with permission, follow me." Filch said. "Those without, stay put."
Harry had decided to take his form and ask for Grandma to sign it, but she had to decline. "I told you, Mr. Potter, no permission sheet, no visits for you."
"I thought if you signed it, then I could..." Harry said.
"I can't. Only a parent or guardian can sign." Grandma said. "Since I am neither, it would be inappropriate. I'm sorry, Mr. Potter. That's my final word."
"You gonna be okay, mate?" I asked him as he walked to us dejectedly.
"Forget about it, guys." Harry said. "It's alright, You two enjoy your date." He managed to smirk at us as he left. Hermione blushed a little as she looked down. "Um, it doesn't have to be what he called it." She said shyly.
"No, no, it's okay, 'Mione." I said as I squeezed her hand. "I'm totally fine with calling it a date."
"Oh, alright then." Her face changed to an excited expression as we went to the carriages. "Where do you want to go in Hogsmeade?"
"Anywhere you want to go, really." I said. "Anywhere's fine with you."
She blushed madly. "Okay, how about we start at the Post Office? I've heard they have a color-coordinated system on how fast you want letters sent with two hundred owls!"
"Sounds brilliant!" I replied, which caused her to smile. "We'll go there first."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hermione POV
Y/N and I made our way through Hogsmeade, hand-in-hand, to the Post Office. The way there, I couldn't help but enjoy Y/N's company, just him, not with the other boys. I'd say he's a bit more sensible than the other boys. And it was just incredible, spending time with him.
As we entered the Post Office, we both marvelled at the productivity of it. Every person inside took each letter from presumably the school owls and put in color coordinated spots. Since we were students, we were able to see how it worked. We got to hold some owls, but most of them really liked Y/N, which I giggled at. He didn't seem to mind, and smiled at the workers.
"Hey, 'Mione?" He asked. "Do you want to try holding an owl?"
"Oh, um," I said. "I don't know how to hold one. I've seen Harry do it loads of times with Hedwig, but I don't know how to."
"It's alright, I can show you." He said kindly. "Mum taught me with her owl loads of times when Lana and I were younger. You up for it?"
"I suppose. As long as you're here to help."
He then allowed for one of the owls to rest on his arm as he outstretched it and walked to me. "Alright, so you put your right arm out, okay?" I was a little scared at first, but Y/N's here. He's absolutely great with animals. He's great with Snowball, Patch and Crookshanks, great with Hedwig and really great with Buckbeak.
"It's okay, Hermione." He said calmly as he looked at the dark grey owl on his arm. "Arthur here isn't going to hurt you." He then went behind me and allowed Arthur to hop onto my arm as he made his way around me. Arthur turned his head and cooed at me, making me laugh.
"He said you can pet him if you want." Y/N said. I took my left hand and gently pet Arthur as Y/N watched me. "Wow, He's really fluffy." I chuckled. "I can see why you like to do this, Y/N. Do you mind if you can show the same for other creatures?"
"Of course, 'Mione." He said with a smile. "Do you want to go to Honeydukes? I bet they've got a lot of sweets, hopefully your parents don't get mad since they're dentists..."
"Yeah, of course!" I said. "Wait, I haven't told you that. How did you know?"
"Oh, they told me." Y/N said. "Well, I mean in the letter I sent, of course. They told me a lot about themselves. They seemed happy to get my letter actually."
Ah, I shouldn't have talked so much about Y/N so much, now they know I have a crush on him. They're probably getting ready for him to be their son-in-law and planning the wedding. And they haven't even met him yet!
"So, we should probably go to Honeydukes, yes?" I asked, blushing madly
"Oh, yeah, let's go." Y/N said as I took his hand.
As we walked back outside, we saw Lana, who spotted us in the distance and waved at us as she walked with the other Ravenclaws. But Y/N noticed something in the bushes and stopped. I was a little concerned as to why and asked, "What's wrong, Y/N?"
"Hmm?" Y/N turned his head to me. "Oh, nothing's wrong." He pulled out a galleon from his pocket and looked back. "I'm just gonna see if my suspicions are correct." He came closer to the bushs, moved his hand side-to-side with the galleon and then dropped to the ground.
"What are you doing?" I asked and came closer. All of a sudden, a small (about the size of my hand) black, furry creature with a light brown bill came out of the bushes, grabbed the galleon and admired it. It then looked up to Y/N, who smiled and put his hand out and allowed it to climb into his hand. As he turned around to me, he smiled and brought it closer to me.
"Woah, Y/N, what is it?" I asked him. "It looks so adorable!"
"This is a Niffler!" He said. "Rather mischievous animals, they have a small pouch on their bellies that they use to put shiny things in. But yes, they are super adorable. Would you like to hold him?"
I brought my arms out and allowed Y/N to put the Niffler in my hands. It was very small and so darn adorable. "Who's a cute Niffler? Yes, you are. Yes, you are!" I cooed as I tickled it, which seemed to laugh.
Y/N came right next to me and side-hugged me as I smiled at him. "I think I'll name him Snuffles."
"That's a great name for him." I said. "How are we going to bring him back to Hogwarts?"
"Oh, it's a good thing I'm wearing this overcoat then!" Y/N said, pointing out his father's that he got from his mum. "Turns out Dad enchanted this coat with a few tricks. It has a wand holster, undetectable extension charms, vials of Floo Powder and..." he opened the right side of the coat. "A pocket big enough for a niffler to fit in."
I gasped at him. "You and your father are brilliant, you know that?"
"Not as much as you." He smirked as Snuffles put himself in the pocket. "You and Lana are probably the brightest witches of our age."
"Only if you're the brightest wizard." I smirked back as I kissed his cheek.
We entered Honeydukes to find Ron, Seamus and Dean checking out some sweets and giving some suggestions on what to get. Y/N and I bought loads of sweets for us and Harry since he missed out. We bought our favorites, Cauldron Cakes and Pumpkin Pasties, along Honeydukes: Best Chocolate, Tooth-Flossing Stringmints and some Fudge. Y/N also got some treats that Snuffles pointed out to. "You're a very clever Niffler, aren't you?" He teased him as he pet him.
We also went to a Wizardwear shop, where I bought a scarf for Y/N with his initials on it with the colors blue and scarlet red and he bought a cute hat for me, which he put on my head while I wrapped the scarf around his neck. I took some pictures of us together and Snuffles decided to come in some of them, causing both of us to laugh. We then walked to the Three Broomsticks to try Butterbeer with Ron and Lana, since it was almost time to go. I really wanted to go to the Shrieking Shack with Y/N, but since we didn't have time after, he promised me we'll go next time.
"Four Butterbeers, please." Ron ordered for us as we sat down in our seats.
"So, how was your time together?" Lana asked us. "Anything you guys did?"
"Oh, actually, we went around here," Y/N said. "We went to the post office first..."
"Y/N showed me how to hold an owl on my arm!" I added.
"We also went to Honeydukes, bought some sweets..."
"Found out my parents told Y/N a lot more than just presents when he mailed them about my birthday..."
"We found a Niffler..." He smiled.
"Y/N got me this cute hat!" I carefully pulled the hat off my head.
"Mione got me this really comfy scarf!" Y/N showed Ron. "Mate, feel the scarf, it's so soft."
"He's right!" Ron said. "It's really soft."
"And then we came here for Butterbeer." I finished.
"That's really good! You guys must have enjoyed your time here." Lana said. "Wait, did you say you both found a Niffler?!?"
"Oh, yeah we did!" I said as Y/N pulled out Snuffles, who chirped happily, from his pocket.
"This is Snuffles!" Y/N said. "We found him in one of the bushes. He's absolutely adorable. I wonder why he was waffling around Hogsmeade."
"So... does that make you both Niffler parents?" Lana smirked with Ron as we both blushed.
"I-I mean, we did find him." I said as Y/N nodded. "I guess we are then. If that's alright with you, Y/N. Some muggles are dog parents, so I guess that would work?"
"I-I don't mind. Not a-at all." He agreed as Lana carried Snuffles in her hands before returning him to Y/N.
"Four Butterbeers." A waiter said as he brought four glass mugs filled with a yellow-caramelish liquid with whipped cream.
We all took our glasses and said "Cheers!" as our mugs clinked together. I kinda felt bad that Harry wasn't here to enjoy it with us. We all took a sip of the drink and instantly, I loved the taste. It was so tasty, consisting of butterscotch and sugar. I loved it so much, I didn't notice some whipped cream on my upper lip.
"Hey, 'Mione?" Y/N said. "You've got a little cream right here." He motioned to his spot on his lip. I pretended to wipe it off and asked, "Did I get it?"
He laughed a little. "Not really, here let me."
He came closer, took his thumb to my lip and wiped it off, causing both of us to blush. We finished out Butterbeers as Professor McGonagall came in and announced, "It's time to head back to Hogwarts. Come, everyone!"
As we left for the carriages, Y/N, Lana, Ron and I shared one as Y/N left Snuffles out of his pocket for us to see him. He is a playful little Niffler.Y/N and I continued playing with him until Snuffles fell asleep in my arms. It felt like holding a baby in my arms. Y/N looked down at Snuffles as I moved closer to him and he put his arm around me. I couldn't help but smile at him. He always made me feel happy and joyful. I let my head fall on his shoulder as we watch Snuffles sleeping.
Harry POV
While Y/N, Hermione, Lana and Ron went to Hogsmeade, I stayed back and had myself a chat with Professor Lupin.
"Professor, can I ask you something?" I asked.
"You want to know why I stopped you facing that boggart after Y/N left, yes?" Lupin said to my surprise. "I thought it'd be obvious for you. I assumed it would take the shape of Lord Voldemort. And Harry, Y/N knows he's Grindelwald's grandson?"
"Yes, he does." I said. "He found out from Voldemort last year. You knew too?"
"Of course, I do!" Lupin said. "Addison was like the sister I never had. I attended her and Langden's wedding. It was one of the last moments I had with Y/N's father."
"I did think of Voldemort at first." I said. "But then I remembered that night on the train... and the dementor."
"I'm very impressed." Lupin said. "That suggests what you fear most... is fear itself. That is very wise."
"Before I fainted... I heard something. A woman... screaming. Y/N and Lana said they heard spells."
"Dementors force us to relive our worst memories. Our pain becomes their power."
"I think it was my mother... the night she was murdered."
Lupin's eyebrows scrunched. "If you heard your mother the night she died, Y/N and Lana must have heard the night Voldemort murdered Langden in front of Addison. The first time I saw you, Harry. I recognized you immediately. Not by your scar, but by your eyes."
"They're your mother's. Lily's."
I was surprised. My mum knew Y/N's parents and Professor Lupin?
"Oh, yes. I knew her." Lupin began. "Your mother was there for me at a time when no one else was. Not only was she a singularly gifted witch... she was also an uncommonly kind woman. She and Addison were really close. I assume you also know your mother is their godmother?"
I nodded in agreement. "She had a way of seeing the beauty in others... even, and most especially, when that person could not see themselves. And your father, James, on the other hand.. He had a certain, shall we say, talent for trouble . A talent, rumor has it, he passed on to you. You're more like them than you know, Harry. In time you'll come to see just how much."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N, Hermione and Ron joined me as they returned from Hogsmeade. Lana returned to the Ravenclaw tower to share her treats with Luna.
"Honeyduke's Sweetshop is brilliant, Harry!" Ron exclaimed. "But nothing beats Zonko's Joke Shop."
"We never got to go to the Shrieking Shack." Hermione said while Y/N was holding her hand.
"You've heard it's -" Y/N said as I cut him off.
"The most haunted building in Britain. I know." I said.
Suddenly, The Gryffindors suddenly stopped walking and started to converse among themselves.
"What's going on?" Y/N asked.
"Probably Neville forgot the password again." Ron said.
"Hey!" Neville said behind us.
"Oh, you're there." Ron said.
"Excuse me, I'm Head Boy!" Percy Weasley announced to us. "Get back, all of you." As he looked up, he realized what happened. We couldn't get through cause The Fat Lady was missing.
Her portrait was empty, now scared with scratches. "No one is to enter this dormitory until it's been searched. The Fat Lady's gone!"
"Serves her right." Ron said. "She was a terrible singer."
"As much as she was terrible," Y/N said. "It's not funny. I wonder why she's not here."
"The headmaster's here!" Seamus announced as Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape and Filch came to look at what happened.
As Dumbledore looked at the damage to the portrait, he turned back to Filch.
"Mr. Filch, could you round up the ghosts?" He asked. "Tell them to search every painting in the castle to find the Fat Lady."
"There's no need for ghosts, professor." Filch nasly said. "The Fat Lady's there." He pointed to a portrait further down the hall.
As the Professors and the other Gryffindors led by Percy walked down to the portrait, The Fat Lady peered out and looked at us.
"Dear lady," Dumbledore said politely. "Who did this to you?"
The Fat Lady was scared beyond belief. "Eyes like the devil, he's got, and a soul as dark as his name. It's him, headmaster!" She cried. "The one they all talk about. He's here, somewhere in the castle! Sirius Black!"
As the name came out of her mouth, chaos erupted among the students, scared for their lives as there was a murderer in Hogwarts.
"Secure the castle, Mr.Filch." Dumbledore instructed. "The rest of you, to the Great Hall. You will have to spend the night there."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N POV
Soon enough, all the Gryffindors got dressed for bed as all the tables in the Great Hall were no longer there. We were all given sleeping bags and our pets somehow got out of the Common Room, so Snowball, Crookshanks, Hedwig, and Scabbers came down to us to join Snuffles. As Snowball came closer to Snuffles, she instantly became friends with him. I'm glad about that. Lana and Luna felt bad that we had to sleep in the Great Hall, so they joined us to talk until Professor Fliwick took them back to the Ravenclaw Tower.
Hermione, Ron and Harry laid their sleeping bags down as their pets joined them. Hermione set hers next to mine since our pets were with each other. The four of us decided to talk with each other before the professors told us lights out. I noticed Hermione was a little on edge so I inched closer to her as Crookshanks climbed into her lap. She noticed and let her head drop to my shoulder in comfort.
"Do you think Black's still in the castle?" She asked us.
"I don't think so." Lana said. "The teachers said they couldn't find them. And Filch finds any kind of student, so if Filch couldn't find Black, he's most likely out."
"It's like the worst kind of Murder Mystery." I said. "A murderer in a castle full of students on Halloween? Sounds like something Sherlock Holmes could solve."
Other people around us started their discussions about how Black could have gotten in, such as secret entrances, him apparating into Hogwarts, or he snuck in under the dementors.
"Are these people that dense?" Lana said. "That last one does work a little, but no one can apparate into Hogwarts but the Headmaster and Filch knows about nearly all the entrances."
"Yeah, it's like we were the only ones who read." I gestured to Hermione, myself and her. "No one else has even read Hogwarts: A History."
"Lana, Luna." Professor Flitwick said to them as he walked over. "It's time for us to get back to the Tower. You all have a good night now." He then shook my hand before Lana and Luna hugged us and bid us good night.
"The lights are going out now!" Percy's voice boomed through the Great Hall. All the students laid back in their sleeping bags as our pets fell asleep. Snuffles was already being protected by Snowball, who had immediately grew a liking to the Niffler. Couple minutes went by, and I couldn't sleep with the fact that a known murderer being in Hogwarts. I really enjoyed the day today, but after this, I couldn't sleep. I even tried reciting the story Remus would tell us when we were kids about him and his friends in my head.
It was about him being a werewolf and his friends helping him. He never used their actual names, but I knew that James Potter was one of them. He always referred to them in their Animagus form.
Wormtail, being the smallest, would slip by through branches and allow him into a building. Which one was the mystery. Padfoot and Hunter, being a great big dog and a wolf, would help guide him to said building, while Prongs, being a stag, would push through branches with his antlers. Remus said that since they were animals, they helped keep him calm until the Wolfsbane Potion was made. Harry mentioned that Lupin drank it in front of him, hopefully he doesn't figure out he's a werewolf.
I still couldn't sleep through Dumbledore's conversation with Snape, I was too tired from the day to care what either would be saying. As the two left the Great Hall after mentioning something about warning Harry, I felt someone move next to me, that being Hermione.
"Y/N... why are you still awake?" She asked quietly, but still tired.
"I can't sleep." I said. "I'm trying to, but the thought of Black in my head, I can't stop thinking about it. I still have the feeling that he could be after me and Lana too, cause, you know..."
She came closer to me and caressed my cheek. "Don't think about that, okay?" She said quietly so no one could hear us. "I'm here with you, so even if he did come after you and Lana, God forbid that happen, he'll have to go through me first."
She then buried her head in my chest and under my chin as I blushed madly.
'She's willing to protect me and Lana from a mass murderer?' I thought to myself. 'I think I fell for her harder than I could have even imagined.'
"Hermione, you don't have to do that for me." I said. "I don't want you to get hurt because of me."
"I want to!" She said. "I don't want you to get hurt either. You've protected me loads of times, so why can't I do the same for you? So that's that. Now let's try to get some sleep, okay?" She said as she removed my glasses, placed them to the side, kissed my cheek again and wrapped her arms around me.
"Okay, then, 'Mione." I agreed as I kissed her forehead and hugged her back. "Good night. Sweet dreams."
"You too, Y/N." She said sweetly as she hugged harder.
And I did sleep better as Hermione continued to hug me. It felt better as she was there with me, close to me.
And she wanted to protect me. She was willing to risk her life. For me and my sister.
I couldn't believe it. This was the girl I met three years ago in Diagon Alley. She was a kind, compassionate, a little timid but incredible person.
And now she was more than that. Intelligent, amazing, friendly and beautiful.
And I was willing to do the same for her.
3rd POV
Albus Dumbledore continued to walk around the halls in search of the notorious criminal Sirius Black with the help of Severus Snape. He and the other professors had let the Gryffindor students sleep in the Great Hall while they and the Head Boys and Girls of each house kept searching.
The wise old man did truly know that Sirius Black was not responsible for the murders that he supposedly orchestrated 12 years ago after the deaths of Lily Potter, James Potter and Langden Lovegood. He knew that Black was truly innocent and wrongfully sentenced. But he had to keep that ruse going. Especially since the man he was with, Severus, detested Black so much.
But Dumbledore did have his mind on something else. He was supposed to have a guest to help with his adoptive grandchildren, Y/N and Lana Lovegood, with their training. He had known his guest for many years and still maintained contact. He did have to leave his home on such short notice, due to the circumstances, but he and his wife were due to arrive while the students were sleeping.
"Professor Dumbledore!" Professor McGonagall cried out. "Your guests have arrived. They're by the Threstals."
'Ah, perfect.' Dumbledore thought. "This would be quite the treat for Lana and Y/N.'
"Severus?" Albus questioned. "Do you mind looking with Mr. Filch? I have important matters to attend to."
"Of course, Professor." Severus said. "I will find Black, no matter what."
With that, Dumbledore left out of the Hallway and to the Thestrals, where an older man and woman stood by the carriages, talking to each other.
"It would be great to see Dumbledore again." The man said to his wife.
"It would, if it was better conditions, sweetheart." The woman said to her husband.
"Ye, but we haven't seen him in nearly 30 years!"
'Bickering as always.' Dumbledore chuckled to himself.
"Professor Dumbledore!" The man said as he came closer. "You look well."
"As do you, my old friend." Dumbledore said. "You understand why I've called you here, yes?"
"Gellert's grandchildren?" The woman said. "Yes, of course."
"We do have to teach them, yes?" The man said. "I don't mind it, but we must?"
"Yes." Dumbledore said to the couple. "I believe you would like them. They have an affinity for magical creatures as you do. In fact, Y/N found a baby Niffler in Hogsmeade."
"Oh, reminds me of the old days, doesn't that feel the same to you, Newt?" The woman came out of the shadows of the carriage, revealing herself to be Porpentina "Tina" Scamander. "I would love to get to meet them, Dumbledore."
(A/N: Just imagine they're older.)
"Oh, they do?" The man joined his wife, revealing his curly brownish hair with light locks of gray. He wore his traditional Hufflepuff scarf, a blue coat and carried a rather large briefcase. This man was none other than the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Newt Scamander.
"I thought so, Newt." Dumbledore chuckled once more. "Come, we have much to discuss about them."
