Chapter 22: Follow the Spiders./ I AM LORD VOLDEMORT

Harry POV

"You heard what Hagrid said!" I told the others. "Follow the spiders."

"Harry, I don't like this." Ron whimpered once more. "Harry, I don't like this at all!"

"Shush!" Y/N and Lana hushed.

"Come on!" I said as we continued to trek through the Dark Forest where the spiders were crawling until they stopped near a cave.

"Who is it?" A raspy voice said from inside the cave, revealing itself to be a gigantic spider. Lana stood in fear as Y/N and Ron stood in front of her to protect her.

"Don't panic." I warned them as they stood behind me.

"Hagrid? Is that you?"

"We're friends of Hagrid." I said. "And you... you're Aragog, aren't you?"

"Yes," Aragog said. "Hagrid has never sent men and women into our hollow."

"Um, we're kids, teenagers at best." Y/N said. "And are you an Arcomantula?"

"Yes, I am. This one is very smart."

"But Hagrid is in trouble!" I said. "Up at the school, there have been attacks. They think it's Hagrid. They think he opened the Chamber of Secrets, like before."

"That's a lie!" Aragog yelled. "Hagrid never opened the Chamber of Secrets."

"Then you're not the monster." Lana deduced.

"No, the monster was born in the castle. I came to Hagrid from a distant land, in the pocket of a traveler."

"But if you're not the monster, then -" Y/N said. "Then what did kill that girl fifty years ago?"

"WE DO NOT SPEAK OF IT!" Aragog yelled. "It is an ancient creature we spiders fear above all others."

"But have you seen it?"

"I never saw any part of the castle but the box Hagrid kept me. The girl was discovered in a bathroom. When I was accused, Hagrid brought me here."

"Harry!" Ron yelled as spiders cornered him, Lana and Y/N.

"Well, thank you." I said in fear. "We'll just... go now?"

"Go? I think not. My sons and daughters do not harm Hagrid on my command. But I cannot deny them fresh meat when it wanders into our midst. Good-bye, friends of Hagrid."

"Can we panic now?!?" Ron yelled. "Know any spells?"

"I think!" Y/N said. "But it's probably stupid!"

"Do it anyway!" Ron said.

"BOMBARDA!" Y/N shouted, causing an explosion near the spiders. But it didn't drive them away.

"I know another!" I said as I drew out my wand. "But it's not powerful enough."

"Where's Hermione when you need her?" Lana said. As the spiders inched closer, something strange had happened.

A car engine was heard in the distance.

The Ford Anglia drove into Aragog's nest, pushed some spiders out of the way, and somehow opened its doors by itself. "Let's go!" I yelled as I got in the passenger's side and Ron got into the driver's side. Lana and Y/N got in the backseat, ready to get away from the spiders. Since the window was open, I peeked out with my wand and yelled, "Arania Exumai!", remembering the spell Tom Riddle used against Aragog 50 years ago. A beam of white light emitted from my wand as Ron put the car in reverse. Y/N and Lana joined in and yelled the spell along with me.

A spider managed to climb into the car, scaring the hell out of Ron. I pointed my wand towards and yelled, "Arania Exumai!" once more.

"Thanks for that." Ron said.

'Don't mention it." I said.

"Well, now that we're well and good," Lana said.

"Can we get the hell out of here?" Y/N finished for her. "Let's get out of here!"

Ron put the car in drive and pushed a gear, but nothing happened. "The flying gear jammed!"

"Come on, pull!" I said.

"I'm trying!"

Ron drove in front of the spiders, plowing them to the side and eventually the car took flight. We flew above the trees and landed near Hagrid's hut. We all got out of the car after holding on for dear life while Ron said.

"Follow the spiders. Follow the spiders! If Hagrid ever gets out of Azkaban, I'll kill him. I mean, what was the point of sending us there? What have we found out?"

"We know one thing." Lana said. "Hagrid never opened the Chamber of Secrets; he was innocent."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The day after, the four of us were in the hospital wing visiting Hermione with Professor McGonagall's permission. Since Y/N was our friend and the one most affected by her getting petrified, she had allowed us to visit her too.

Y/N had brought flowers everyday for her and changed them everyday in a vase he got for her. He changed the old dried up ones from the time before he was there, and replaced them with new white flowers. He still was sad that Hermione was like this. He still blamed himself for it. He even carried her bracelet with him as a reminder.

"Wish you were here, Hermione." I said. "We need you. Now more than ever."

Y/N brushed some of her stray hairs out of the way of her glossy eyes and placed his hand on her cheek. He removed his hand and took it to her left hand to rub it and kissed it. "Hey, hang on a second." Y/N said as he felt something in her hand. "What's this?" He removed the object from her hand to find a crumpled up piece of paper, which he straightened out and read. His eyes widened as he showed the paper.

"Of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land, none is more deadly than the . Capable of living for hundreds of years, instant death awaits any who meet this giant serpent's eye. Spiders flee before it..."

Underneath the excerpt, there was something written in Hermione's neat handwriting that said, "Pipes."

"That's it!" He said with the first smile we haven't seen in a month. "The voice, the monster's a Basilisk! That's why we can hear it, Harry! It's a giant freaking snake."

"But if it kills by looking people in the eyes," Ron asked. "Why is it no one's dead?"

Lana looked towards the windows. "Because no one did."

"What?" Ron said. "Have you gone mental?"

"Not directly, at least." She said as we walked to Colin and his Camera, still on a hospital bed. "Colin had his camera. So he must have seen it through the camera."

She then walked to Justin, Penelope and Hermione. "Justin must have seen it through Nearly-Headless-Nick. But since Nick's a ghost, he can't die because he's already dead. Penelope must have seen it through a window or a mirror to get here. Grandma said Hermione's bracelet was a mirror at one point, which mean's Y/N charm worked and she was petrified instead of what the Basilisk is supposed to do."

"And Mrs. Norris?" Ron asked. "I'm pretty sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror."

"But there was water!" Y/N said eagerly. "There was a puddle underneath Mrs. Norris, so she only saw the Basilisk's reflection."

"So how was it getting around?" Ron asked again. "A dirty great snake, someone would've seen it."

"The pipes!" Y/n said, beating Lana to it. "Hermione answered that too! It's using the plumbing!"

"It's good to see you smile again, Y/N." Lana said as she placed her hand on her brother's shoulder.

"But remember what Aragog said about that girl 50 years ago," I said. "She died in a bathroom? What if she never left?"

Ron, Lana and Y/N gasped collectively. "Moaning Myrtle."

Above us, a voice spoke from the speakers. "All students are to return to their house dormitories at once." Professor McGonagall said. "All teachers to the second floor corridor immediately." We all looked at each other, wondering what was going on now."

"Can you guys wait for me?" Y/N asked us. "I don't mean to be crazy, but I would like to talk to her alone if you all don't mind."

"Of course, Mate." Ron said. "We'll wait for you outside."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Y/N POV

As Harry, Ron and my sister left the hospital wing, I looked back at Hermione.

"Hey, 'Mione, you beautiful genius." I said as I sat down in a chair. "It's been a while since I've smiled. I'm still sorry about letting this happen to you, I still put that on me, but today... today you gave me, all of us hope that we can still stop what's going on. I miss you a lot, you know that?"

I chuckled a little. I really did miss her, she just lights up everyday here. She's always there for me, caring about me, just doing everything with me. Things weren't the same without her here. I missed everything about her. Her beautiful brown eyes, her brown bushy hair, the way she would hug me and kiss me on the cheek sometimes, the times where she would hold my hand and put her fingers with mine. Ever since she was petrified, my hands have always felt cold.

"I miss you so much. Hopefully you will be back with us soon." I said as I brushed her hair behind her ears. "Hopefully you can forgive me too. I can't wait to see you again." I then leaned down and kissed her temple and her cheek. I rubbed her hand before I stood up and walked to the door. Before I stepped out, I looked back at her, smiled smally and joined the others.

"You better?" Lana asked.

"Loads better." I said. "But what was Grandma talking about on the speakers?"

"Dunno." Harry said. "But I think we should check it out."

We all went toward the 2nd floor corridor, where Grandma, Professor Snape, Professor Flitwick, Madam Pomfrey and Filch. There was a new message written in the wall in blood, just like the first.

"As you can see," Grandma directed to them. "The heir of Slytherin has left another message. Our worst fear has been realized, two students have been taken by the monster, into the Chamber itself."

Grandma sadly looked at the group. "The students must be sent home. I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts."

Lana gasped as the brainless git arrived with that disgusting smile on his face. "So sorry. Dozed off. What have I missed?" Lockhart asked the professors with a grin. Grandma looked at him with a straight face.

'I still can't believe Albus hired you. You are an absolute joke of a teacher.' I heard Grandma in her thoughts, Lana and I couldn't help but chuckle. But suddenly Grandma smirked.

"Two girls have been snatched by the monster, Lockhart." Grandma addressed him. "Your moment has come at last."

"My... moment?"

"Weren't you saying just last night you've known all along where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is?" Snape asked with a grin of his own.
"Yes, and you told me," Flitwick continued off Snape. "That you knew who the Heir of Slytherin was?"

Wait, are they calling his bluffs? This must be the greatest thing I've ever seen.

Before Lockhart could answer Snape, Grandma answered him. "That's settled. We'll leave you to deal with the monster, Gilderoy. Your skills, after all, are legend."

"Very well." Lockhart gulped. "I'll be in my office, getting, uh... getting ready." He then left with a look of regret as the four of us nearly laughed.

"Who is it that the monster's taken, Minerva?" Madam Pomfrey asked her.

Grandma returned to her face of concern. "Ginny Weasley.... And Luna Lovegood."

Wait, WHAT!

THE DAMN HEIR KIDNAPPED RON'S SISTER AND OUR LITTLE SISTER?!?

Lana gasped in fear as she heard Luna's name while Ron straightened up in shock. I held my fist in anger while Harry watched all of our reactions. As Grandma and the other professors and we got a clearer picture of the message.

THEIR SKELETONS WILL LIE IN THE CHAMBER FOREVER.

"Their skeletons will lie in the Chamber forever." Ron read the message. He was devastated after he heard that Ginny and Luna were kidnapped. "Ginny."

"Luna." Lana said as she hugged me.

"I can't believe that I have to say it," Harry said. "But we have to follow Lockhart. He may be useless, but he's going to try to get into the Chamber. At least we can tell him what we know!"

We raced towards the DATDA classroom in hopes of getting to him before he left. But as we entered, we found that he wasn't leaving for the chamber.

He was leaving Hogwarts.

"Are you going somewhere?" Harry asked.

"Um... well, yes. Urgent call. Unavoidable. Uh, got to go."

"Oh, was it for the Liars Conventions?" I asked sarcastically. "They wanted their keynote speaker on how to fool the Wizarding World?"

"What about our sisters?" Ron said in a rage.

"Uh, well, um... As to that, most unfortunate." Lockhart said. " No one regrets more than I."

"But you're the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher."

"Well, I must say, when I took the job, there was nothing in the job description about--"

"You're running away? After all that stuff you did in your books?!" Harry said.

"Books can be misleading."

"You wrote them!"

"My dear boy, do use your common sense! My books wouldn't have sold half as well if people didn't think I'd done all those things!"

That does it. Lana and I are gonna give this man a piece of our mind.

Lana pulled out her wand and yelled, "Colloportus!" at the door, causing it to lock. Lockhart looked at his door and asked, "What did you do?"

"Oh, I'm sorry." Lana said. "Did I break your concentration?"

Before Lockhart could answer, Harry, Ron and I pulled out our wands and pointed them at Lockhart.

"Oh, Bloody hell!" I yelled. "You selfish dolt! The chance that you can get to actually do something with your stupid, pathetic life and you run away!?! One of the people I care about the most is still petrified, our younger sisters are down in the chamber and you run?!? You egotistical, biggoted, selfish, piece of shit! You're more than a fraud, you're a bloody coward!"

Before Lockhart could answer us seriously, he saw the rage in mine and Lana's eyes that sent him a mental message that told him, 'You cross us, it would be the last mistake you ever make.'

I opened my hand and Lockhart's wand flew into my hand. I looked at it for a moment to see it, looked back at Lockhart with pure hatred and muttered, "Incendio." to his wand without breaking eye contact. As the fire spread through the wand, I dropped it and smashed it into the ground, turning it into a pile of ash.

Lockhart looked at me with even more fear than he had before as we all raise our wands to him. "Try anything," Lana said. "And something worse happens to you."

"What d'you want me to do?" Lockhart said. "I don't know where the Chamber is."

"Yeah, obviously." Lana and I said in unison.

"But you're in luck." Harry said. "We think we know where it is and what's inside. And you're coming with us."

Harry and Ron pulled Lockhart as Lana unlocked the door to make our way to Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. As we marched down, Ron whispered to us, "Remind me not to get on your bad side. You both can be a little scary."

"Nah, you're good, mate. People like him really piss me off."

Lana POV

As we entered the bathroom, Myrtle came toward us. "Oh, who's there? As she found who her visitors were, she smiled. "Oh, hello, Harry. What do you want?"

"To ask how you died." Harry said.

"Oh," Myrtle said as her smile went away. "It was dreadful. It happened right here in this very cubicle. I'd hidden because Olive Hornby was teasing me about my glasses. I was crying, and then... I heard somebody come in."

"Who was it, Myrtle?" Harry asked again.

"I don't know. I was distraught!" Myrtle whaled. "But they said something funny, a kind of made-up language, and I realized it was a boy speaking, so I unlocked the door to tell him to go away, and... I died."

"Just like that?" Y/N asked. "How?"

"I just remember seeing a pair of great yellow eyes, over there, by that sink." Myrtle turned to her head to the sinks near the bathroom, where Y/N, Hermione and I concocted the Polyjuice Potion while she floated off to the stalls. Harry and Y/N walked up to the sinks, where Y/N moved his hand to open the sink to turn the tap, but nothing happened. Harry then looked at another thing as I walked up to join them. I looked to where Harry was looking to find a snake carved into the sink.

"This is it." Harry said. "This is it. I think this is the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets."

"Why did Slytherin put it in the girl's bathroom?" I asked. "Could have just put it in the dungeon..."

"Maybe he was a weird bloke." Y/N said.

"Say something." Ron suggested to us while he still guarded Lockhart. "One of you, say something in Parseltongue."

Y/N and I stepped forward towards the sink and spoke, "Open up."

Something moved from the top of the sink while all the sinks moved outward which made us and Lockhart moved out of the way. The sink with the snake pulled downward as it revealed the entrance to the Chamber.

"Excellent, Y/N, Lana." Lockhart grinned as he looked around nervously. "Well, then, I'll just be, uh... there's no need for me to stay."

He then turned to exit, but he was stopped by Ron who still pointed his wand at him.

"Where do you think you're going, Gilderoy?" I said coldly.

"There's still a use for you." Y/N said. "You're going first."

"Now, you all, what good will it do?"

"A lot of good, actually." Y/N hissed. "Every wizard and witch will learn who Gilderoy Lockhart really is. A coward, a lair, a cheat and a fraud."

"Better you than us." Ron added.

"Um, but obviously, yes." Lockhart said nervously as we brought him toward the entrance. "Sure you don't want to test it first?"

"We are." Y/N said. "You're the test run." With that, he pushed Lockhart into the hole as he yelled in fear. We heard a thump as his voice rang out. "It's quite filthy down here."

"No one asked you." I said as I looked back to the boys.

"Alright, let's go." Harry said as we all nodded in agreement.

"Oh, Harry, Y/N?" Myrtle grabbed our attention with a little grin. "If you die down there, you're welcome to share my toilet.

"Umm, thanks, Myrtle." Y/N said he was confused, since he was talking to a ghost that was quite old for him. "We'll keep that in mind."

Myrtle smiled and floated away. I looked to Y/N with the same look of skepticism. "Why did she have to say that to you both?" I asked him. "A ghost hitting on my brother and one of my best friends, very weird."

"Weird, indeed, sister." Y/N said.

We then turned to the opening and jumped into what was a slide... We found Lockhart down here, brushing the dirt off him. We all got to our feet and began to look around.

"Now remember," Harry directed. "Any sign of movement, close your eyes straight away."

"Go on." Ron and Y/N pushed Lockhart as he followed Harry.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"This way." Harry said as we entered a room with a rather huge snakeskin.

"What's this?" Ron asked as he walked near the skin.

"It looks like a... snake." Lockhart said.

"Wow, Detective Dumbarse!" Y/N said. "Clearly a captain of the most certainly obvious. What the hell did you think the monster was, idiot?"

"Bloody hell." Ron said in amazement. "Whatever shed this must be sixty feet long. Or more." As Ron finished, Lockhart fainted to the ground.

"Heart of a lion, this one." I said sarcastically, which made Ron smile for a moment before what happened next.

As if he was most liking acting, Lockhart jumped to his feet, grabbed one of our wands and pointed it at us. "The adventure ends here, you all." He said with another stupid grin on his face. "But don't fret. The world will know our story. How I was too late to save the girls, how you four tragically lost your minds at the sight of their bodies..."

Y/N scowled in anger at him and tightened his fist, ready to punch the idiot in the face.

"So... you first, Mr. Lovegood, for insulting me." He said pointing the wand at my brother. "Say good-bye to your memories."

Surprisingly, Y/N smirked, to our confusion. 'Look who's wand he has.' He said mentally to us.

I looked back at Lockhart as he continued to stare at Y/N. Then I realized what was happening.

Lockhart was using Ron's wand.

His broken, Spello-taped wand.

As we all got the idea, Lockhart looked at us all.

"You first." Y/N said.

"OBLIVIATE!" Lockhart bellowed, intending to erase Y/N's memories, but instead blew himself backward into a wall. Suddenly, the rocks around began to fall to the floor, causing Harry and Y/N to go on one side, while Ron and I were on the other with Lockhart's body.

"Harry!" Ron yelled out. "Y/N!"

Harry and Y/N ran to an opening from the pile of rocks separating us. "Ron, Lana!" Y/N said. "Are you both okay?"

"We're fine!"

"Hello." Lockhart said. "Who are you?" He asked Ron.

"Um... Ron Weasley."

"Really? And, uh... who-who am I?"

Wow. The idiot erased his own memories. Incredible.

"Lockhart's memory charm backfired!" Ron exclaimed. "He hasn't got a clue who he is!"

'It's an odd sort of place this is, isn't it?" Lockhart asked as he took a small rock. "Do you live here?"

"No. " I said as I took the rock from him.

"Really?" He asked before I smacked him in the head, knocking him out, causing the boys to smile a little.

"What do we do now?" Ron asked the two.

"You wait here," Harry said. "And try to shift some of this rock so we can get back through. We'll go on and find Luna and Ginny."

"Be careful, you two." I said to them. "Please be safe."

"Of course, sis." Y/N said. "We'll be back soon."

And the both of them went to the door behind them with seven snake locks on it.

"Open." Harry said to it, causing it to open while the snakes retracted one by one. As they siltered away, the door opened and the two of them went into the Chamber.

Y/N POV

As we left Lana, Ron and Lockhart on the other side, Harry and I went on into the Chamber. In front of us was a giant facewas several snakes around. In the middle, Ginny and Luna were lying there motionless.

"Ginny!" Harry yelled, as he dropped his wand and ran to her. As he got to her body, he dropped to his knees. "Ginny, please don't be dead. Wake up. Wake up, please!"

I ran to Luna and did the same, getting on my knees and raising her up so her head laid on my lap. "Come on, Lu. Please wake up!" I said. "Lana and I need you to wake up, please, little sister."

"They won't wake." A different voice said. As we looked up, we found a taller boy in Slytherin robes with a maniacal grin on his face.

"Tom?" Harry asked. "Tom Riddle? What do you mean they won't wake? They're not..."

"They're still alive." Riddle assured. "But only just."

"Are you a ghost?" I asked.

"A memory, preserved in a diary for fifty years."

"Y/N." Harry said. "She's as cold as ice. Ginny, please don't be dead. You've got to help us, Tom. There's a Basilisk."

"It won't come until it's called."

"Umm, Harry?" I said. "I think he knows about it."

Riddle now held Harry's wand in his own to Harry's surprise. "Give me my wand, Tom."

"You won't be needing it."

"Harry..."

He still continued to ignore me. "Listen, we've got to go. We've got to save them!"

"I'm afraid I can't do that, Harry." Riddle said once more. "You see, as poor Ginny grows weaker, I grow stronger."

Harry and I were a bit confused while Riddle was speaking. Then, it all made sense.

"Yes, you two. It was Ginny Weasley who opened the Chamber of Secrets."

"No. She couldn't. She wouldn't."

"It was Ginny who set the Basilisk on the Mudbloods and Filch's cat." He said as my blood boiled at the use of 'Mudblood'. "Ginny, who wrote the threatening messages on the wall."

"But why?" I said impatiently.

"Because I told her to. You'll find I can be very persuasive. Not that she knew what she was doing. She was, shall we say, in a kind of trance. Still, the power of the diary began to scare her. And she tried to dispose of it in the girls' bathroom. And then, who should find it but you? The very two people I was most anxious to meet."

"And why did you want to meet us?" Harry asked.

I knew I had to talk to you, meet you if I could. So I decided to show you my capture of that brainless oaf Hagrid to gain your trust." Riddle said.

"You framed Hagrid fifty years ago." I said. "But he's our friend!"

"It was my word against Hagrid's. Only Dumbledore seemed to think he was innocent."

"I bet Dumbledore saw right through you." I said.

"He certainly kept an annoyingly close watch on me after that. I knew it wouldn't be safe to open the Chamber again while I was still at school, so I decided to leave behind a diary, preserving my sixteen-year-old self in its pages, so that one day, I would be able to lead another, to finish Salazar Slytherin's noble work."

"You won't finish it this time." I said. "In a few hours, the Mandrake drought will be ready. And everyone who you petrified will be alright again."

"Haven't I told you? Killing Mudbloods doesn't matter to me anymore. For many months now, my new target has been you, Harry, Y/N and your sister, Lana.

"What the hell do you want with us?" I asked again.

"How is it that a baby with no extraordinary magical talent was able to defeat the greatest wizard of all time? How did you escape with nothing but a scar while Lord Voldemort's powers were destroyed?" He asked Harry.

"Why do you care how I escaped?" Harry asked. "Voldemort was after your time."

Riddle smiled wickedly and manically. "Voldemort... is my past, present and future."

With Harry's wand, he turned around and spelled out his full name.

"TOM MARVALO RIDDLE."

As he finished writing his name in midair, he flicks the wand, rearranging the letters to spell,

"I AM LORD VOLDEMORT."

Harry and I faced him as the letters faded away while Riddle continued to smile evilly. "You're the Heir to Slytherin."

"You're Voldemort."

"Surely, you didn't think I was going to keep my filthy Muggle father's name? I fashioned myself a new name, a name I knew wizards everywhere would one day fear to speak when I became the greatest sorcerer in the world!"

"Albus Dumbledore is the greatest sorcerer in the world!" I yelled at him.

"Dumbledore's been driven out of this castle by the mere memory of me!" Riddle yelled back. "And speaking of memories, you and your sister, I've always wanted to meet you. You are part of a memory Dumbledore has since wanted to forget for decades."

"What the hell are you talking about?" I scowled.

"Surely, you know some magical history about Dumbledore." Riddle sneered. "His achievements with Nicholas Flamel with the Philosopher's Stone, how he sent Newt Scamander to America, and who he fought in 1945. You both are a part of it.

"I know Dumbledore adopted your mother, but have you both ever thought as to who your biological grandfather is? Because he is the very same person that Dumbledore fought in 1945."

"No. It... It can't be." I said as I fell to my knees as I realized what Riddle/Voldemort was saying. "My grandfather..."

"That's right, Y/N." Riddle said evilly. "You see now, don't you?"

"Your biological grandfather," He chuckled evilly. "Is none other than...

"Gellert Grindelwald."

(A/N: And boom! The mystery around Y/N and Lana Lovegood has been revealed! I hope this was a good reveal, and don't worry, I will go in detail about how Grindelwald is Y/N and Lana's grandfather and how they know Parseltongue in the next chapter, which will be the end of Chamber of Secrets, hopefully coming on Wednesday or Friday. Let me know in the comments after you read this about how you felt about this reveal, since It wasn't Lord Voldemort or any of the Lestranges. Anyways, Have a good day/night and I'll see y'all soon. :) )
