Chapter 14: Escape from the Dursley's
Y/N POV
This summer has been fun, to say the least. A couple days ago, Lana and I, along with Snowball and Patch, came to Ron's home, otherwise known as the Burrow, to stay there for the rest of the summer while Mum had her Auror duties for the Ministry of Magic.
It was quite the sight, very rustic, but very unique to say.
Lana and I arrived by Floo powder and Mrs. Weasley has been taking care of us since we got here. We did have some fun with Fred and George with their pranks, talking to Ron about our 2nd year at Hogwarts and getting to know Ginny, the youngest of the Weasleys and their only daughter. I did get to write to Hermione everyday like I told her, almost nonstop but Harry hadn't been writing to me, Lana or Ron.
On the other hand, Hermione did write that she asked for permission from her parents to stay with the rest of us and they said yes, so she was gonna come here by Floo powder that I had sent her with my last letter by tonight. By nightfall, I was waiting by the Weasley's fireplace, waiting for her to arrive. As I waited for her, Ron, Lana and I were talking about Harry. He could be held against his will with the Dursleys. Harry did describe them as horrible last year. So tonight, after Hermione comes to the Burrow, the four of us, along with Fred and George, were to take Mr. Weasley's car, which he had enchanted with all sorts of spells and charms, and take Harry ourselves from 4 Privet Drive.
I waited a little while longer on the Weasley's couch with Lana, who was reading one of Ms. Weasley's books (She didn't even touch her books by Gilderoy Lockhart, she absolutely hated him and so do I.) until the fires turned light green and out came a familiar bushy-haired girl, who smiled at me as I watched her step out of the fireplace.
"Y/N!" She cried out as she ran and hugged me as Lana and I stood up. "I've missed you so much." She said as she placed her head on my chest.
"I've missed you too, 'Mione." I said as I returned the hug. She then separated from me and hugged Lana as well.
"Right then," Ron said behind us. "The gang's back. So how about we get our best mate back, eh?"
Harry POV
I was stuck in my room after what that little punk, Dobby, did to Mr. Dursley's guests. They had also kept my belongings and Hedwig in my old room under the cupboard, Uncle Vernon had put bars on my window and Dobby had stopped all mail from Ron, Y/N, Hermione or Lana from coming to me.
I was laying in bed, waiting for what to do for the rest of the summer, and potentially, the rest of my life, until I heard an engine roar directly outside my room.
'Wait, what?' I thought to myself. 'This house has two floors and I'm on the second.'
I got up from the bed and ran over to my barred window to find a car floating, yes floating, in front of me with a couple of familiar faces. (The Ford seats five people, but let's say it can hold more people.)
"Hiya, Harry!" Ron called out.
"Ron?!" I called out. "Fred? George? Y/N, Lana, Hermione? What are you doing here?
"Rescuing you, of course!" Y/N said. ""Go on, get your trunk! We'll take care of the bars. "
I went toward my wardrobe and pulled out anything I owned out of it and stuffed them in my trunk, which they didn't put away. As I did that, Fred and George pulled out a chain, tossed it to the window and broke it along with the wall, earning a couple of snickers from the pranksters.
"Come on, Harry!" Fred yelled at me.
"Wait!" I shouted. "I've forgotten Hedwig!"
"Where is she?" Y/N asked as he poked out the window.
"The cupboard under the stairs. It has the rest of my stuff too."
The blonde-haired boy climbed out the window and jumped into the window, Lana and Hermione following after him. "You get into the car, we'll get the rest of your things." Lana said as she put her hand on my shoulder before she joined her brother and Hermione.
Moments later, they came back, Lana and Hermione holding my Nimbus 2000 and some other things, while Y/N held Hedwig in her cage.
"Harry, mate." Y/N called out. "Let Hedwig stretch her wings, that's all she can think about."
"You can read her mind?"
"Of course, Harry!" Lana said. "All living beings can think, can they?"
"Now, what the hell's he doing?" I heard Uncle Vernon's voice yell out. "POTTER!"
"Dad! What's going on!" Dudley called out.
Lana and Hermione got back into the car as Y/N carefully held Hedwig and climbed out the hole in the wall. Unfortunately, As he was about to get to the car, Uncle Vernon had come into the room and held him by the leg.
"Oh no, Potter!" Vernon yelled at me. "You and the bloody pigeon aren't going anywhere!"
"ARE YOU BLIND!?" Y/N yelled at him as he kicked Uncle Vernon multiple times. "HEDWIG'S AN OWL, YOU TWIT!"
He kept pushing Vernon away until something cracked.
Uncle Vernon had broken his ankle and his foot.
Y/N managed to use his other leg to kick him in the nose. "That's what ya get for breaking my ankle, you bloody prick!" He yelled as we pulled him and the cage back into the car. He was holding back tears in his eyes as he bit down on a piece of cloth that Lana put in his mouth as Hermione comforted him.
"Is he gonna be alright?" I asked the two girls who nodded. "He might need some help from Mrs. Weasley." Lana said.
"Shhh, Y/N, don't worry." Hermione said to him comfortingly as she took his hand. "It's gonna be okay, trust me. I'm here with you, your sister's here, we're all here."
She removed the cloth from his mouth and threw it out the window and Y/N held onto her hand as he relaxed a little and put his head on a cushion. Hermione was still holding his hand as she moved closer to him and caressed his cheek.
"By the way, Harry." Ron said in a calm voice. "Happy Birthday."
Lana POV
We managed to arrive at the Burrow at the break of day. The twins dropped the car off in their garage and walked inside with us. Y/N couldn't stand since Harry's uncle broke his foot, so Hermione had helped him on his feet, just like how she helped him when his arm was broken.
"Come on. Okay, come on." Fred said to us. "Shh! Shh! Ok, come on."
"Do you think it'd be all right if we had some of this?" Ron said as he held up a sweet.
"Yeah, Mum would never know." George said to Ron.
"Anyways, Harry, welcome!" Ron greeted him. "It's not much, but it's home."
"I think it's brilliant." Harry said with a wide smile on his face.
Suddenly, the seven of us were greeted by the rage of Mrs. Weasley, who came storming in and scaring her children.
"Where-have-you-been!" She yelled before she did a total 180 to us. "Oh, Harry, how wonderful to see you dear. You too, Y/N, Lana, Hermione."
She gasped at Hermione and Y/N as she saw the condition of his foot. "What happened to you, Y/N?"
"Oh, Harry's uncle decided to be a prick and break my foot." Y/N said calmly. "I think he's quite stupid, honestly. He thought Hedwig was a pigeon."
"Oh, goodness me!" Mrs. Weasley said. "Hermione, can you take him to the couch? I'll try to heal it." With that, Hermione helped my limping brother to the couch, leaving me, Harry, and the three Weasleys.
"Beds empty! No note! Car gone!" She said to her children once more. "You could have died! You could have been seen! Of course, I don't blame you all, Harry, Lana, your brother and Hermione."
Honestly, she is kinda freaking me out with those constant 180 turns she's pulling at us.
'They were starving him, Mum!" Ron whined. "There were bars on his window!"
"Well, you best hope that I don't put bars on your window, Ronald Weasley! Come on, time for a spot of breakfast. Just wait a moment, I'll go and fix Y/N's ankle."
Mrs. Wealsey then went towards the living room to fix my brother's ankle as Hermione sat next to him for support. Y/N had laid himself on the couch and Hermione placed his head on her lap, waiting for Mrs. Weasley to work her magic. I heard a couple of "ouchs" and hisses of pain as Mrs. Weasley muttered some words over his ankle. Hermione was still comforting him with kind words and began to rub his cheek. After a while, Y/N was walking normally again and they joined us at breakfast sitting together.
Honestly, at this point, I really wanted them to be together at this point, they are so adorable together!
"Mum-Mummy," A voice called out to Mrs.Weasley, revealing themselves to be Ginny. She did remind me of Luna so much, since she would be going in her first year like her. "Have you seen my jumper?'
"Yes dear, it was on the cat."
Ginny then looked at the dining table, where Harry had made eye-contact with her and her eyes widened.
"Hello." said Harry.
Ginny stood still as if she was hit with a Full Body-Bind before she ran off, leaving Harry confused. "W-what did I do?"
Y/N chuckled. "That's Ginny. She's been talking about you all summer ever since she saw you last year."
"A bit annoying really." Ron scoffed.
"I think it's quite adorable of her." I said. "Just a little celebrity crush, is all. Oh, Y/N, we have to do that thing we were talking about soon! Maybe after breakfast, we go and do it?"
Y/N looked up as he had helped himself to some beans on toast. "Hm? Oh, right! Pretty excited for that, actually."
Hermione took notice of this and it had seemed curiosity had gotten the better of her.
"What are you both talking about?" She asked. "Where are you going?"
"Oh, don't worry, Hermione." I said. "Y/N and I are just making a quick stop somewhere and we'll be back soon."
"Yeah, just pop by, have a quick chat and we'll be back as soon as we can." Y/N said to her. "I promise."
A couple moments later, Mr. Weasley had arrived at the table, where Mrs.Weasley scolded him for making improvements to the car under her watch. He then proceeded to ask Harry about the function of a rubber duck and other questions until something made a thud at the nearest window.
"Well, that will be Errol with the post." Mr.Weasley announced. "Oh, fetch it, will you Percy, please?"
Percy, who didn't care how his hair looked at the moment, stood up and observed the letters.
"Oh, look, it's our Hogwarts letters." Percy said. "They've sent us Harry's and the others, too."
"Dumbledore must know you're here. Doesn't miss a trick, that man."
"Sounds like our grandfather." Y/N said. By now, Hermione, Ron and Harry knew that Dumbledore was our adoptive grandfather, so it didn't give as much a shock to them. However, Percy had a completely different reaction. He started stuttering in shock as he gave us the our letters and what we needed to get:
The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 2 by Miranda Goshawk
Break with a Banshee by Gilderoy Lockhart
Gadding with Ghouls by Gilderoy Lockhart
Holidays with Hags by Gilderoy Lockhart
Travels with Trolls by Gilderoy Lockhart
Voyages with Vampires by Gilderoy Lockhart
Wandering with Werewolves by Gilderoy Lockhart
Year with the Yeti By Gilderoy Lockhart
"Oh my god, I just really hope that he isn't our teacher." Y/N said. "That would be a nightmare."
After breakfast, Y/N and I got ready to go where we wanted and Mrs. Weasley gave us a pot of Floo powder for the trip round and back. We each took a fistful of the green, sparkling powder, stepped into the fireplace and shouted, "The Rookery!"
As the powder fell from our hands and made contact with the wood, the green fire consumed us and not burned us at all. The next thing we knew, we were standing in front of a room filled with mismatched objects. In front of us stood a man with similar qualities of our father. Our uncle, Xenophilius.
"Y/N! Lana!" He said as he came over to us. "Ah, my dear nephew and niece! How are you both?"
"We are absolutely amazing, Uncle Xeno." Y/N said. "Where's Luna?"
"Oh, she's upstairs." Uncle Xeno said. "She doesn't you're here, she would be really excited to see you both! Luna, darling!"
"Coming, daddy!" A dreamy voice said from upstairs. A few minutes later, a blonde-haired girl with silver eyes and a Butterbeer cork necklace had come down the stairs and burst into a smile as she ran towards us and hugged the both of us.
"Hey, Lu." I said to her. "How have you been?"
"I've been okay. How about you two? Any Nargles come around?"
"Nah, not at the moment." Y/N said. "I might have seen a few Wrackspurts in a friend's head though."
He then turned to Uncle Xeno. "Hey, Uncle Xeno, we've been wondering." He began. "If it's no trouble to you, can we take Luna to Diagon Alley? We've been staying with some friends of ours, and I think they wouldn't mind if she stayed with us as well."
"Oh, it is no problem at all, Y/N!" Uncle Xeno said. "I actually have something for the Quibbler, I wasn't sure if I would have time to take her!"
"I'd like to go with them, Dad." Luna said.
"Oh, of course, Luna, darling." Uncle Xeno said. "Just your things ready and you can go with your cousins."
Luna beamed at her father and ran back up the stairs, ready to pack her things. Moments later, she came back down with a trunk and a bag and joined us at the fireplace.
"Ready to go, Luna?" Y/N asked, to which she nodded.
"Good luck at Hogwarts this year, you three." Xeno began. "Your mother and your father would be very proud."
"Thank you, Uncle Xeno." I said as Y/N helped Luna into the fireplace and gave her the instructions to the Burrow while he stepped in. He called out their destination with her stuff, and the fire consumed them, taking them back to the burrow. I went in after them and did the same.
Hermione POV
Y/N and Lana had been gone for quite a while and I was getting a bit worried for them. Y/N said they would be quick, but it has been 25 minutes. The Weasleys and Harry are still getting ready to go to Diagon Alley. Just when I was thinking about it, the fireplace turned green and out came Y/N and a shorter, blonde haired girl came with him with a bag and a trunk. After they walked out the fireplace, Lana came out.
"Where have you two been?" I asked. "You were gone quite a while."
"Oh, really sorry about that, Hermione." Y/N apologized. "We were visiting our uncle and wanted to ask him something. And we brought someone with us!"
The shorter girl standing next to Y/N waved at me. She had the same hair color and eye color as both Y/N and Lana, but she had a unique but interesting sense of clothing. She had a butterbeer cork necklace around her neck.
"This is our younger cousin, Luna." Lana introduced her with a smile. "She's going to start her 1st year at Hogwarts soon."
Luna then walked up to me and held out her hand. "Nice to meet you!" She said cheerfully. "What's your name?"
I held out my hand to shake hers. "Hermione. Hermione Granger." I said with a smile.
"Oh, I remember." Luna said in a cheerful tone. "Y/N speaks of you very fondly in his letters."
"Luna!" Y/N said as he blushed, which earned a little giggle from me.
"He's my best friend, I got to know him last year." I told her as I leaned into her ear. "He even saved my life once."
Luna gasped in amazement as she looked back to her cousins.
"Shouldn't we get ready to go to Diagon Alley?" Y/N asked shyly.
"Oh yes, we should," I said. 'The Weasleys are still getting ready, we should too."
"I'll get Luna's stuff in my room." Lana said as she helped Luna with her things. "You two know you're sharing a room?"
"Wait, we are?" We asked in unison. I didn't notice that we were both blushing.
"Yep. In Bill's old room, I think." She said in the distance. "Mrs. Weasley told me before we left to get Luna. Two beds, I believe."
Well, guess my best friend/crush is also my roommate. I mean it's not that bad.
"Oh, Hermione, Y/N! There you are!" Harry said as he came into the living room. "Are you both ready to go to Diagon Alley?"
