71). Godric's Hollow
Lana POV
I was still waiting outside near the fire. After Harry cast the spells, he sat down next to me and rubbed my shoulder. I did appreciate it from him and Harry, they were my brothers after all. After a while, we decided to go into the tent, where we found Hermione and Y/N in a deep embrace and snogging each other.
But what stood out to me... was the ring on Hermione's left ring finger.
Harry had seen it to and dropped whatever he was carrying, grabbing the couple's attention as their heads turned to us. I was awestruck and so was Harry. Did my brother just propose?
The couple turned their heads to each other and back at us with a smile on both their faces. "Surprise?" Hermione said with a small shrug. My god, HE DID PROPOSE!
AND WE MISSED IT!
"Harry, we just had to miss this!" I said to him. "This would have been incredible to see!"
"Congratulations," Harry said to them as he walked over and hugged the both of them. "Y/N, I better be best man at the wedding." He grinned and hugged Hermione as she chuckled. I also went in for a hug as well with the both of them and they had both accepted it.
"I'm so proud of you both," I said. "You both are going to get married! I can finally plan it for god's sake!" Hermione couldn't help but giggle and I went on. "And my best friend is going to be my sister-in-law!"
"But that's not all," Y/N said as his hands were still conjoined with Hermione's, who kept smiling. "We were also talking about something just now and we decided... we want to adopt Anne."
I gasped dramatically. "I'm going to be a sister-in-law and possibly an aunt? My god, this might be the best news I've heard in some time. When we win, we have to celebrate your engagement!"
"That will definitely be in the cards, Lana," Hermione said as she hugged me again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day, Hermione, Y/N and I were outside near the trees sitting near the fire. Y/N and Hermione were sharing a blanket as they snuggled together and read one of Grindelwald's journals while I read the other. Every page Grindelwald ends his entry on, he always ends it with, "For the Greater Good," and a triangle with a circle in it and a line inside the circle.
"Hey, Lana?" Y/N asked me. "What do you reckon, 'For the Greater Good' means?" He must have seen the same in the journal.
"I dunno," I said with a shrug of my shoulders. "But this symbol looks really familiar... I can't tell where I've seen it before."
"The same symbol's in 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard" as well," Hermione said.
Just then, Harry ran out and towards us and handed the Snitch to Hermione. "You were right," He said out of breath as we all looked at the words before they vanished.. "It's like you all said. Snitches have flesh memories. But I didn't catch my first Snitch with my hand, I almost swallowed it."
The words on the Snitch read out, "I open at the close." before they vanished again.
"I open at the close?" Hermione repeated.
"What do you reckon it means?" Harry asked.
"We don't know," I said. "But look, we may have found something. Let's go back to the tent." We all walked back in and I pulled a table for us to look at everything. I put down the journal I had, Hermione put the Tales of Beedle the Bard and Y/N put the other journal. We had them all turned to the pages with the symbol.
"At first, I thought it was a picture of an eye, but after seeing it in Grindelwald's notebooks, I don't think it is. It isn't a rune and it's not in Spellman's Syllabary either. And it's been inked in -- somebody drew it -- it isn't part of the book." Hermione said to us.
"Wait, Luna's dad was wearing that," Harry said. "At Ron -- At Bill and Fleur's wedding."
"What do you mean wearing it?" I asked. I didn't get to see Uncle Xenophilius very long so I didn't know.
"Around his neck," Harry explained. "Like an amulet. I didn't think much of it at the time. You know Luna -- she's always got some mad thing or the other she's carrying around. I just figured."
"Why would the same symbol be drawn in two different books?" Hermione pondered. Harry eyed her and then Y/N and I before speaking. "I've been thinking. I -- I want to go to Godric's Hollow. It's where I was born, it's where my parents died --"
"And It will be exactly where You-Know-Who will expect you to go," I said. "Because it means something to you."
"But it means something to him too, Lana," Harry retorted. "You-Know-Who nearly died there. Wouldn't that be just the kind of place he'd hide a Horcrux?"
"Now that I think of it," Y/N said. "That could be right. But we'd have to expect a trap of some sort. The Locket didn't have much."
"It's dangerous, Harry," Hermione said. "But I have to admit, recently even I've been thinking we might have to go. I think it's possible something else is hidden there."
She stopped for a moment and thought to herself again while placing her fingers on her engagement ring. "The sword. If Dumbledore didn't want it falling into the Ministry's hands, but wanted you to find it, what better place to hide it than the birthplace of the founder of Gryffindor himself?"
"Godric's Hollow is the birthplace of Godric Gryffindor," Harry added. "I mean, of course it is. Obvious, isn't it?"
"Harry," I asked him as he looked at me. "Did you ever read 'A History of Magic.'?"
"Tossed it at Neville once when he was snoring," He said with a straight face. "Might've popped open."
We all smiled as Hermione reached out and looked at Harry's hair. "Don't ever let me give you a haircut again." She said.
"You should tell that to your fiancé," Harry said back to her as Y/N hugged her from behind and Hermione kissed him with a smile on her face.
Harry POV
Later that night, we apparated quietly to Godric's Hollow to find the town glittering and sparkling. Christmas decor flowed through every house and snow covered the floor and statues around. Good thing we prepared for it, as we all wore hats, scarves and coats. It was extremely cold, so we were good.
"I still think we should've use Polyjuice Potion," Hermione said to us.
"No," I said. "This is where I was born. I'm not returning as someone else." Y/N and Hermione held their hands together and walked with us as we gazed through the streets. A pub door was open with laughter and music spilling out into the streets.
"I think it's Christmas Eve!" Lana exclaimed quietly. "Listen..." Along with the music and laughter, there were also voices coming from a church. From the corner of my eye, they fell to the graveyard next to it. "You think they'd be in there? My mum and dad?"
"Yeah," Y/N answered. "I think they would be."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moments later, we entered the graveyard and walked through the rows of tombstones and graves. Y/N, Lana and Hermione studied the names until they found one grave.
"Harry," Lana called out to me.
"Is it --" I asked, but Hermione cut me off.
"No," She said. "But look." I walked over to the Tombstone where it read:
"KENDRA DUMBLEDORE AND HER DAUGHTER ARIANA."
"Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
"Did you three know he had a sister?" Hermione asked as we were all puzzled.
"No," I said.
"Grindelwald's mentioned her," Y/N said. "Said that Dumbledore was sad when she passed away. Also mentioned a Dumbledore by the name of Aurelius, but no further mention of that Dumbledore. We don't know if Aurelius is alive."
We left Kendra and Ariana's grave and walked through the graveyard, but to find a very, very old and ancient grave with the name, "Ignotus Peverell."
"Lumos," Lana muttered as the light shone on his name.
And with that same symbol. It was maddening, what did these people and the symbol have in common?
And along with that, I found gravestones with two familiar names. The engraving read:
JAMES POTTER
Born 27 March 1960
Died 31 October 1981
LILY POTTER
Born 30 January 1960
Died 31 October 1981
"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death."
Y/N and Lana were looking at the same one until their eyes were drawn at one last gravestone next to them.
LANGDEN LOVEGOOD
Born 17 January 1960
Died 12 September 1980
Loving and proud brother, husband, father and friend.
A clever mind, but a brave soul in the end.
Taken from us all too soon.
"Is that..." Lana said as her eyes widened.
"Dad..." Y/N said as he walked over and kneeled in front of his grave. Hermione saw him walk to his father's grave and did the same, only she hugged Y/N from behind and snuck her hand in his again. She let go of him but not his hand as she sat down next to him and faced Langden's grave.
"Hello, Mr. Lovegood," She said to the grave, which puzzled me for a moment. "I'm Hermione Granger. I'm your son's fiancée. It's nice to meet you, but I wish I could meet you in person."
"He would have liked you, you know that?" Y/N said as a few tears came out of his eyes. "I wish he could be there to see us getting married."
"Me too," She said. "I bet he's proud of you and Lana and what you've done."
They both stood up and joined us again as we looked at the two gravestones. Hermione raised her wand and traced a circle at both of them as two wreaths of roses bloomed above their graves.
"Happy Christmas, everyone." She said to us before she wrapped her arm around Y/N's torso and Y/N put his arm over her shoulder. Lana rubbed my shoulder and I looked at the roses before...
"Harry." Y/N said as his head was turned.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Someone's watching us." He said. "By the gate."
He was right. A woman was watching us by said gate. She then disappeared into the shadows. Asking us for follow her.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I don't think this is a good idea," Hermione said anxiously as she held on to Y/N's hand.
"We look like Ordinary Muggles," I said.
"Muggles," Y/N said. "Who magically planted flowers by our parent's graves."
The woman held up her hand, motioning us to stop as a group of Snatchers walked by. Y/N saw them and hid Hermione from their sight by covering her with his body. As they vanished, the woman pressed on and walked to where she was leading us.
"Relax," I told them. "This is right. I know it."
"Relax, he says," Y/N said stressfully. "Yeah, how can I relax when there are Snatchers around?!"
"Y/N, it's okay," Hermione said softly. "I'm safe with you, aren't I? They're not gonna take me, I just know it." She smiled and kissed him quickly.
"You always know how to calm me down, don't you, love?" Y/N said as Hermione's fingers lingered on his face.
"I do, don't I?" She said with another smile. "I don't want my Fiance to be stressed."
The woman then led us to a dark cottage, which looked like it hadn't been taken care of in years. Ivy and snow covered every piece of wood and stone and the weeds were overgrown. This was my mum and dad's home.
It was my home.
"This is where they died," I said. "This is where he murdered them." I stared at the house for a moment before I spoke again. "You're Bathilda, aren't you?"
The woman nodded and led us to another home. She hobbled in first a we followed after. But a strange smell filled the room, causing Hermione's nose to wrinkle.
"Harry," Lana said. "I'm not sure about this."
"Lana, she knew Dumbledore," I reasoned with her. "She might have the sword. Besides, she's barely knee-high to a house-elf. I think we can overpower her if it turns ugly."
"There's something odd about her," Hermione said. "And what's that smell?"
"She's gaga, remember?" I said.
Bathilda came back with a box of matches to light a candle, but she stumbled to light it, so I walked over and said, "Here, let me do that."
As I helped her with that, Lana, Hermione and Y/N looked around the hom and looked through the pictures. "You have a lovely home, Miss Bagshot," Hermione said but Bathilda was staring at her with a strange look.
But Y/N stopped at one picture and glanced back at it as his eyes widened.
"Guys..." He said a little nervously.
"Why does Bathilda Bagshot have a picture of Gellert Grindelwald?"
Y/N POV
I couldn't believe it. How did our grandfather know Bathilda Bagshot? Grindelwald was currently in Numenguard Prison, where he's been from 1945. But in this picture, he was younger and so was Bathilda.
HOW OLD IS THIS WOMAN!?
"That's him," Harry whispered. "The one I saw in Gregorovitch's wandshop. The Thief's your grandfather?"
Bathilda jerked her head to follow her as Hermione said, "All right..." and we were about to follow, but Bathilda stopped us. She then pointed at me, Lana and Harry as Harry turned to her.
"She wants the three of us," Harry said. "Alone."
"Why?" Hermione asked.
"It's alright, love," I said. "You stay here."
"Y/N..." She was about to speak, but I silenced her with a kiss on her lips. "I'll be fine, Hermione. I promise you. I love you."
"I love you too." She said before kissing me again. I brushed her hair behind her ear and winked as I followed Bagshot, Harry and Lana.
We followed Bagshot up the stairs where Harry muttered, "Lumos," to have some light. We did the same, but we lit a flame in our hand instead. 'I've got to learn that," Harry said. As we reached the top floor, Bathilda finally spoke, but it felt different.
"You are Potter and the Lovegoods?"
"Yes."
Something hissed in the room while some buzzing came through. Bathilda looked back at us and said, "I have something for you three."
"Shit!" I said. "She was speaking in Parseltongue!" But it was too late. Bathilda's pupils changed from dots to slits. Harry dropped in pain as Hermione came up the stairs where we watched Bathilda's body drop dead like a puppet.
And one giant-ass snake came out of her neck. Nagini.
Harry rose his wand, but Nagini made it fly out and was about to strike him. "NAGINI!" I yelled in Parseltongue. "You knew my grandfather. Why did you join You-Know-Who!"
"No reason to you. I shall loyally serve Lord Voldemort!"
"Incarcerous!" Lana shouted at Nagini but she dodged the spell. We both shot spells at the snake, but she kept dodging and dodging. She then decided to blast holes into the wall and splinter the furniture around.
"Confringo!" Hermione yelled at the trembling walls, causing it to break open and make a hole in the wall. We all fell out of the house as Nagini hissed in pain, but we managed to disapparate out before she could see where. As we were enveloped in darkness, I fell unconscious as I felt a piece of the wall hit my head.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Y/N...."
"Y/N....."
"Y/N... Y/N, love, can you hear me?"
I heard soft whispers in my ear as my eyes slowly got adjusted to the light around, but my vision was blurry. I must not be wearing my glasses, but there was a figure over me. "Where am I?" I asked as I blinked. I still couldn't see clearly. "Where are my glasses?"
"They're right here," The voice said as I felt the arms of my glasses slid on the top of my ears. As my vision got readjusted and I could see clearly again, I saw Hermione in front of me, laying on my body and nuzzling her head on my chest. "You were out cold all night!" She said. "Something hit your head, you okay?"
She was in some different clothes, but the ring was still on her finger. "Harry and Lana are fine right now, but you've been a little sick. Your skin was cold, so I shared some of my body heat with you. Just rest for me. Lay back down, I'll let Lana and Harry know you're okay. Rest a little bit more..."
She laid me back down as I felt sleep come back to let me rest as Hermione pressed her hand on my cheeks and kissed my forehead, my cheeks, my chest and my lips again. She was whispering sweet nothings into my ears and her voice was alike to one of an angel. The last thing I remember was her whispering,
"I love you so much, Y/N Lovegood. I can't wait to marry you soon."
Hermione POV
After I got Y/N to rest, I watched him go back to sleep. I just wanted to stay there with him and sleep with him, but I did have to tell Lana and Harry he was okay. Harry felt sick when we apparated here in the first place but now he was fine. I was about to go, but I decided to stroke his hair a little and lightly pepper his face with kisses and one on his neck as well.
I still couldn't believe I was going to get married to him. I was so happy, so ecstatic. And we wanted to adopt Anne. The next time we see her, we'll tell her and hopefully, she says yes. I could just imagine what we would do as her parents. She could get to go to Hogsmeade with our permission, she would have a family, a big family at that, and we could do things like a family. I just couldn't wait to see her and ask her. And I would be her mother and the love of my life would be her father and my husband.
I walked out of the tent to find Lana and Harry sitting near the campfire. They looked worn-out and battle-worn. "You've outdone yourself this time, Hermione," Lana said with a small smile. "Where are we, anyway?"
"The Forest of Dean," I answered. "I came here once with my mum and dad, years ago. It's just how I remember it. The trees. The river. It's like nothing's changed. Not true, of course. Everything's changed. If I brought my parents here, they wouldn't recognize any of it. Not the trees. Not the river. Not... me."
"Where are they?" Harry asked.
"Monica and Wendell Wilkens now reside happily in New York," I said. "They have two dogs, run a small sweet shop, but floss daily. No children." I smiled a little, but it didn't last. "Maybe Y/N and I... we could get married here."
"Hermione, you and my brother deserve to get married in a beautiful reception," Lana said seriously. "Hopefully, your parent's memories can be retrieved and they can see you getting married. The bride's supposed to have her family at the wedding too."
I inhaled and nodded at her. "But Y/N was right," I said. "The boy in the picture is your grandfather. Gellert Grindelwald."
I pulled the book I stole from Bagshot's home, "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore.". "It was in Bathilda's sitting room. Rita Skeeter had sent it to her. Dumbledore knew Grindelwald for a time. He wasn't very well known until Y/N and Lana were outed as his grandchildren." I handed Harry the book, which was open to the photograph of Grindelwald and Dumbledore. Grindelwald was dressed in all black with a jagged wand.
"When Grindelwald was seventeen, he was expelled from Durmstrang. He'd started doing some twisted things at school -- experiments. A few teachers had always protected him, but they couldn't anymore. After he left, he traveled for awhile, then ended up in Godric's Hollow where his great aunt lived, Bathilda Bagshot."
"Wait, wait, wait," Lana interrupted. "You mean to say that Bathilda Bagshot -- the author of 'A History of Magic' -- is our great-great-great grandaunt for something? Good God!"
"Get to the hard Part, Hermione," Harry said.
"She introduced him to Dumbledore. It made sense. Dumbledore's mother had just died, Grindelwald was troubled and they were both brilliant -- they'd never really had anyone they could talk to on the same level. They did a lot of talking that summer. But they always returned to one particular subject. Wizard rule over Muggles."
"And Dumbledore believed it?" Harry said.
"Yes." Lana and I said.
I continued through Dumbledore and Grindelwald's history and how Grindelwald took a more violent position. "After Dumbledore put Grindelwald in prison, his advisor, Vinda went with him and in 1960, they had Y/N and Lana's mother, Addison, who Dumbledore adopted."
"And 19 years later," Lana said. "Y/N and I were born in 1979."
Harry tossed the book away and looked around. "Where's my wand? I'll take the watch."
Lana and I looked at each other with a worried look. Harry's wand was broken when we apparated here. "Hermione, Lana," Harry asked. "Where's my wand?"
Lana pointed to a spot, where Harry's shattered wand laid. Harry walked to it to find it severed in two and the phoenix feather was barely holding it. "It's my fault." I said sadly. "As we were leaving Godric's Hollow, I cast a curse and it rebounded... I'm sorry, Harry, I tried to mend it but wands are different --"
"It's done." Harry said.
"Maybe we can --" Lana said.
"It's done," Harry repeated as we nodded. "Hermione, could I use your wand? You can stay back with Y/N and get warm."
I handed him my wand and the locket as I looked back to him. "He loved you, Harry," I said. "We know he loved you all."
Harry smiled a little and went off and Lana stayed by the fire. "I'm gonna try to find anything to cook," She said. "You gonna be fine with Y/N?"
"Yeah, I will be," I said. "You be safe out there."
"Of course I will be," She smirked and walked to hug me. "Take care of him." With those departing words, Lana turned into an eagle and flew off in search to hunt anything good for consumption.
I walked back into the tent where Y/N was awake and saw me walk in with a smile on his face. I smiled at him and sat down next to him on his bed. "How are you feeling?" I asked as he sat up.
"Better," He said. "I hope I'm not that sick."
"You're just having a fever," I said as I put my hand on his head. "Your forehead isn't that hot anymore, but your skin is very cold. I had to take off your heavy clothing, but your body was still exposed."
He looked at me. "You... took my shirt off?" He wore button-ups more often which I found very attractive on him, so he was wearing a black tank-top underneath it.
"Y/N, we both have to someday," I teased. "And I should be able to see my fiance without his shirt on..." I said with a smirk.
"Oh, you will, baby," He said softly in my ear. "Maybe more..."
I grinned, hugged him and to his surprise, I gently bit his earlobe before I turned to face me. He was red a little before he rested his hand under my chin and leaned in to kiss me. But this was full of passion and love, like a shock I never wanted to end.
We kept kissing and pressing our lips on each other while we both bit on them to show more passion. I sat in Y/N's lap and continued to kiss him while we laid down on the bed. "I still can't believe I'm lucky enough to marry you, Hermione," Y/N said as we stopped kissing and laid down next to each other.
"I can't wait to be your wife," I said with another kiss. "Our life together, I can only dream what we'd do."
"Whatever we do," He said as he took his hand in mine. "We do it together."
"I second that, Love," I said with a smile and snuggled myself on him before I yawned. "I'm tired... I'm gonna sleep with you."
"No problem, love," He said as he brushed my hair. I absolutely loved it when he did that. "I love you so much."
"I love you more." I said before we both went to sleep together.
