Chapter 10
Sara's POV
Turning around to press my back against the door, I looked it over.
'What would Joe tell me in this situation? Breathe. Stay calm. You need to be calm, Sara.'
The room was the same purple as the one we did Russian Roulette in. There was a desk with papers in front of me. There were something that looked like windows. Outside was pitch black. There was a candle sitting on the ledge of there. In the back, there were bookshelves, lots of books filled in them, and a grandfather clock next to it. On the right, there was a painting of a silhouette with a huge teddy bear underneath it. There was a shelf with a bottle on it, and another desk with a wooden box in the middle of it under the shelf. The only unsettling thing was the large grey crack in the wall that stretched through more than half of the room.
After surveying the room, I took a couple of deep breaths. 'Let me start with the simple things. I need to know the situation before I try getting out.'
Walking forward, I picked up the notes of some kind that had been scattered about.
6.6% Alice Yabusame
5.3% Ranmaru Kageyama
4.9% Megumi Sasahara
3.0% Kazumi Mishima
'...!' I dropped the paper from my hand. Looking at it again, I made sure I saw what I had seen. 'What's this note...?! Professor Mishima's name is on this... Along with some people I don't know. Hm... Alice... Yabusame? I'll hold onto this. See what Reko has to say about it.'
Going to the right, I jumped up to pick up a bottle. It had water inside it.
Seeing the peculiar-looking painting in the corner, I walked over to it and tugged on it. It was affixed with some kinds of screws. Weird. Why would you do that?
Walking over to the bookshelves, they were a similar style as the one in the hidden room Sou found. The covers looked proper, but all blank on the inside.
The box on the far right had a lid affixed with screws. 'Looks like I'll need to find a tool for this.'
Pacing back and forth in the room, I stopped at the bookshelves. Peaking up, I noticed there was a box up there. It looks like I'll need both hands to carry it.
'Ngh... Just barely too high to reach.' I jumped up and tried grabbing the box.
'"Besides Sara, it's just barely out of your reach, huh?" Joe smirked, looking from me to the painting.
"Hey, I grew a centimeter since last year, don't take me lightly!" I stood on my tip toes, measuring how far I had to reach his height.
He slumped his posture down, which made him look kind of weird, since he always had a straightened posture. "D... don't put me down, man."
"I'll be calling you "shorty" some day." I gave a sweet smile and walked away.'
"Shut up, Joe." I muttered under my breath, taking out some books from the shelf.
'It's not exactly polite... But I'll stand on the books to get to the box on top.' I stood on the books, getting a firm grip at the box. Placing it down on the table, I opened to see what was inside.
'This is just... two needles.' I picked them up and examined them in the palm of my hand. 'Just ordinary needles.'
Looking over at the grandfather clock, I had an idea. Putting the handles on the clock, I realized my mistake.
'What was the time?' I looked back at the needles in my hand. I didn't have a watch on me, I didn't even know if it was day or night. 'Wouldn't hurt to try.'
I put the hour handle at two, and the minute handle at eight. Nothing happened.
Scanning the room again, I widened the place where the bookshelves were taken. It was... a digital clock.
'It's stopped at 28:75.' I looked at the clock in confusion. 'What kind of time is that?'
Jumping onto the empty table, I stared at the clock hands as I'd left them.
'28:75... 28 converts to four hours... right?' I moved the hour hand to the number four. Looking again at the digital clock, I counted seventy-five. 'And seventy-five minutes converts to an hour and fifteen minutes.' Running up, I moved the minute handle of the clock to fifteen minutes. Nothing happened. In hope, I moved the hour hand another hour to make five fifteen.
There was a very loud 'dong...!' that came from the grandfather clock that caused me to jump.
'Surely someone heard that...' I thought in hope.
As soon as the pendulum started to move, something stuck inside fell out. It was some sort of tool. A screwdriver that had the word "Phillips" imprinted on the side. Rushing over to the painting, preparing to take it off.
'All of these are different types... Is the idea that I need four different tools to remove this painting?' I thought, placing the Phillips screwdriver on the table nearest to the painting right in front of the box.
'The box...' I looked at it closely. 'I could probably open it with a flathead screwdriver. COuld I find something like that here?'
I sat down on the table again, scanning the room as the clock ticked like a metronome. Beginning to pace up and down the room, I looked at the candle. The unlit candle.
Taking out my lighter fluid, I lit it. It probably didn't serve any purpose, but a bit more light would be good.
There was a crackling noise behind me. My heart thumped faster. 'Someone's in this room. Someone's here with me.' Swiftly turning around, I made a turn to punch the person in the face. To find out there was no one behind me and that I'd thrown my fist at the air, I was relieved for a couple of seconds before I let out a slight yelp. The teddy bear, the freakiest thing in the room, had red liquid coming from its eyes down its face.
No matter how creepy it looks, I still felt a little bad. Taking the paper that used to be on the table, I picked out notes that didn't seem as important and wiped the liquid off. It stopped crying.
'Hmm, something came out of its mouth.' I picked up a flathead screwdriver, excitedly jumping up to run to the box. Screwing it open, I found an allen wrench in it.
'Alright, I just need one more tool before I can unscrew the painting.' I placed the three tools next to each other. The lights flickered. Looking up, I let out a gasp of surprise. The crack in the ceiling was now coated with red liquid. Some of it dripped onto my face. Wiping it off, I looked at the smeared red on my fingers. Turning around, I saw a red tile in the floor. Dropping down to it, I gave it a close inspection.
'If I jam a tool in between the tiles, I bet I can open it up...' I took out a screwdriver and smashed it into the tile. It opened up to reveal something underneath. It was a small opening with more red liquid swimming about.
Something seemed to be floating on the surface. Dropping my gaze to the bottle filled with water, I had an idea.
'If I pour in water to increase the water volume...' I popped open the lid and poured out the water in the bottle.
Something indeed floated in the red liquid.
'Would prefer to avoid touching the liquid...' I thought to myself as I picked up the tool floating on the top. Cleaning off the Nail Puller with my fingers, I grabbed the three other tools.
'Okay, now I have all four tools I need. I'll remove these...!'
Inscrewing the painting, a thought appeared in my head. 'What if this opened up a passageway to crawl through? What if I die in here, unable to solve the riddle? What would happen to the others? Will they even notice I'm gone?'
Taking off the painting, I discovered nothing on the other side. The lights flickered out again, and a single locker appeared in the wall.
'...! The wall!' I looked around in confusion. Nothing else happened.
Taking a breath and calming down, I reached up to open it. 'I'm getting a bad feeling... Calm down, Sara.' I took a couple of deep breaths before slowly opening the locker.
At first, I found it was an empty locker. Opening it further...
"Gyaaaaah!" I let out a yell.
Someone... was staring back at me...! He had piercing pink eyes, with a short hairstyle. His right side had light blue hair that covered his right eye. On the left side was .5 millimeter hair, dyed in alternating pink and yellow colors. He wore a black and white outfit.
The man didn't say anything and continued glaring at me with his eye. Suddenly, his eyes rolled to the back of his head as he muttered out. "...Hel....p..."
Jumping back, the man fell down and splattered onto the floor.
'Ack...!? What?!'
"U... Um...?!" I asked, trying to get his attention.
'W... what should I do...' I looked around.
"A-Are you alright...?" I asked the stranger.
'He's not conscious...' I realized. 'What should I do... Should I run before he wakes up...!?'
I had a flashback of my mom... in the same situation... laying on the floor, knocked out. I hadn't been able to save her... maybe...
"...I can't...!!" I muttered to myself. 'I don't know if he's a good person... but he said "help"...! Then... I'll take him with me!' Without much thought, I took the man by his arms and got the man on my shoulder. He seemed surprisingly light for a male his height and size. 'He doesn't seem to be hurt... but I should be delicate...' I decided, rushing out of the red room, which was now open.
"Ah... Sara." I nearly ran into Joe, who had a thoughtful look on his face. 'What happened? Did he come searching for me? Is something wrong?' "Wait, what the?! What's that?!" He pointed to the man I had on my shoulder. He'd said it in a very distrusting way, I almost would've felt hurt. But now wasn't the time.
"He suddenly fainted as soon as he saw me! Joe, give me a hand!" I said quickly.
"Got it! Let's carry him to the others!" Joe's concern was wiped off his face as he nodded, running around behind me to pick up the lower side of our fallen friend.
"That was the plan!" I said, heading off down the hall into the pink room. Keiji will know what to do with him.
As we briskly walked together with Joe, I had time to gather my thoughts.
'There's... an eleventh person here again. For how long has he been in there? And Joe... did he go looking for me? Was he already standing there? Though I guess Joe's been known as a person to be in the wrong place in the wrong time.'
"Hey! What the hell's with that guy?!" Q-Taro pointed to the unconscious body as we passed the central hall.
"He lost consciousness...!" I yelled back to him.
"Sara c'mon I can't hold him forever!" Joe said in a complaining way.
"I'm holding most of his weight, Joe, you shouldn't even be talking." I said behind me.
"I dunno nothin'! Have somebody who'd know check 'im!" Q-Taro yelled back to me.
"It would be better if you carried him..." I muttered under my breath as Joe and I ran to the kitchen.
"Alright we gotta make a quick swerve..." I said to Joe as I opened the door to the hidden room.
"Wait... how did I not know about th... what...?!" Joe asked, nearly dropping the body.
"Sou?" I called out.
"Ahh, sorry, sorry, I'm here." I heard a certain British accent yell out from the darkness.
"Waugh?! Who's that guy?!" Sou pointed to the man, holding onto his beanie with the other hand, as if the man would suddenly wake up and take his hat from him. "I... I can't lend a hand here. Sorry..." He said apologetically. I wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't lift that computer off the desk he was trying to open the password to.
Going out of the room, we burst into the pink room with Joe and my unconscious friend.
"Hm...? Sara... is that...?" Keiji asked, pointing toward the man Joe and I carried.
"H-Hwahhhhh...?!" Reko made a confused noise. "T-The hell is this about? That guy on your shoulder...?!"
"Lend me a hand, please... You see...!" I told them what happened in the red room.
Keiji was silent, thinking something over.
"Relax, he's just fainted." He finally said.
"Who in the world is this guy..." Joe muttered, lightly pushing the man in his rib area.
"Joe don't do that. Or would you want me to toss and turn you around when you're unconscious like a piece of meat?" I hissed. He made a shocked expression and retreated.
"...He's got a collar." Keiji hooked the collar under his long fingers and lifted it up.
"Let's tie him up!" I said. 'He could have a collar, but he might be dangerous.'
"Ahh, you don't miss a beat, Sara." Keiji gave a half-hearted laugh and scratched his neck with a smile. It seemed out of the ordinary for this situation. A normal smile, that is.
"...We'll tie him up with whatever we got available." Reko agreed with me.
'It'll be hard to figure out this guy's situation until he wakes up...'
"As long as he doesn't move, should be fine. Once he's up, let's leisurely question him." Keiji compromised.
As I felt a bit of relief, my attention unavoidably turned toward the situation in the room.
"Uhh... Keiji. Are Nao ang Gin still..." Joe asked, nearing toward me, like he was ready to cover my eyes with his hand if I looked at professor Mishima.
"Yeah... still the same as ever." Keiji rubbed his neck. "They haven't moved an inch... Hurts to see me, too." He looked at us, a hurtful expression swimming in his cold, dead eyes.
Looking over at Joe, I remembered my conversation with him. I needed to keep close watch. "Keiji... might you want to investigate?"
"Well... yeah. It's hard, but someone's gotta do it. And I just so happen to be a pro."
'It feels more like he's bragging instead of actually doing the work.'
"Though this is my first time investigating a body I once talked to." Keiji turned to professor Mishima.
"It... is hard for you after all, huh?" Joe picked up on his words.
Keiji eyes Joe, who immediately backed away. Joe isn't one to act scared when given death glares. Not that he's ever gotten them before. Did... something happen between them, I wonder? I'll need to ask Joe.
"Dummy... Nao's got it million times worse." As Keiji fixed his shirt collar, Joe noticeably swallowed. He looked scared. What did Keiji do to him?
"Losing somebody she respects... man..." Keiji sighed and looked away.
Joe was quiet for a second. Turing to look at me for a second, Joe straightened his posture. "...U-Um! Is there someone you respect, Keiji?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.
The friendly policeman thought, seeming to have trouble answering that question.
"Maybe there was." he gave a slight smile, showing some of his white teeth.
A sound came off in the room and I ducked my head into my shoulders, putting my hands over my head.
"Are you okay, Sara?" Joe asked.
"A message for those in the room." someone said over the terminal.
"...!" Reko lifted her head up.
"Please exit the room quickly to allow the retrieval of the corpse."
"Retrieval... of the corpse...?" Keiji asked, confused.
".........." Nao opened her mouth and lifted her finger to give those people a piece of her mind. "...D... Don't be ridiculous!!" She yelled, making us all stagger back. Yes, it was very sad for him to be retrieved to the kidnappers, but what was Nao doing?
"I won't... I won't give the professor to anyone!!" Nao yelled. Something definitely happened with her brain.
"Defiance will not be tolerated." the person over the intercom spoke. "Beginning fog dissemination."
"That... gas again...!" Joe said, covering his mouth with his hand.
"No...!" Nao shrieked, horrified. "Stop!! Please, stop!!" she looked like she was on the verge of both a panic attack and a mental breakdown. Keiji was definitely right when he said Nao has it a million times worse. "The professor... isn't dead after all...!!"
Something got caught in my throat. 'Isn't... dead? Did she not watch his die in front of her? Did she not yell his name hundreds of times, struggling to free from the grasp of the people holding onto her? Did she not sit over his body for nearly half an hour? Did she not see his head fall off his neck when she shook him? Did she want him to not be dead that badly...?'
With that, Nao took part of Mishima... and put it... in the box Q-Taro had brought.
"W-What are you doing, meow?! You shouldn't do that, woof!!" Gin said, looking more horrified than Nao.
"Please get out of my way!!" Nao yelled out to us, balancing the box on her hip and she brushed the others aside and took off running.
"Hold on, meow!!" Gin raised his hands in the air, showing off the long red claws at the end of his paws.
"Gin, don't!! Wait!!" I called out.
"Now this is no good... Sara, Joe, let's give chase." Keiji said.
"Please! Nao lost her cool! So treat her carefully!!" Reko called out after us.
A/N: for those that have seen the playthrough on my channel you know I was laughing my head off (pun intended) when Nao was having a panic attack and defending her dead professor. Also they weren't able to get out of the room that had a poisonous gas in it. The only person to survive was Sou who was in the hidden room that was trying to unlock the computer (btw I think that computer was filled with hentai or something there wasn't anything important on it. Ah, I can hear his screaming and covering his eyes from the screen from here)
It's a Lolbit Show
