36 | The Love That Bounds Them Together|
"Now let me go I have to stir the food."
"No, absolutely not. You're not going to cook because we are going out."
"But Soh I already started to cook, why didn't you tell me earlier?" Sanyukta took up the closest thing she could get her finger on, the roll pin.
"Sani put the rolling pin down like a nice little girl," Soham told as he jumped off the counter, backing slowly towards the door of the kitchen. "S-Sanyukta please put it down."
"You made me waste all of my time to chop up the vegetables, defrost the chicken and make juice for us. I could have used that time to cuddle with you but instead I started to make lunch for the both of us and now you are telling me we are going out.
Today I am definitely cook you."
She ran after him with the rolling pin, ready to beat him up, while Soham threw pillows as he ran away from her.
"You can't escape me Soh."
"Sanyukta I won't do something like this again, I promise," he shouted hiding behind the bookshelf.
"Good, now you are talking like a big boy." She smiled and lowered her hand with the rolling pin and walked back to the kitchen. "We're leaving in 10 minutes."
He sighed in relief that she didn't beat him to pulp and went upstairs to change.
~
"So where are we going for lunch?"
"Actually we are going somewhere special first and then we are going for lunch."
"Is this another one of your pranks because the last time when you said we are going somewhere special I had to stay in a finger brace for three weeks."
Sanyukta folded her arms across her chest and slowly turned to look at him, who was now biting his lip.
"I have apologized for that a billion times. I didn't know you were terribly terrified of horses. Forgive your Soh bear na."
His pouting face melted her heart making her give in. "Fine, but the next time I am going to beat you up with that rolling pin."
Soham chuckled and turned the car, now entering into the police station.
"Police Station? Why are we here?" Sanyukta asked in curiosity.
"Today I want to start fresh with you and myself, but before that I want to end the thing that has been holding me back."
Soham got out of the car feeling pride rush through his body, confidence boldly showing in his eyes.
"Let's go sweetheart."
He held his head up high taking his wife's hand into his with a wide smile on his face.
He never felt this way before. He never felt so proud of himself, so confident in himself but after Sanyukta came into his life and taught him how to stand up for himself and be a man, he never forgot that life lesson and worked on himself.
As entered the police station, he felt nervousness slightly trying to fight its way into him but nevertheless he still held his head up high.
"I would like to meet Mr. and Mrs. Verma," he said to the inspector who was siting before him.
Sanyukta turned her head to face him in shock, wanting to know why would he want to meet the people who gave him pain for 27 years.
"Soham are you sure about this? Why would you-"
"I told you already Sanyukta. I want to start fresh with you and myself and in order to do this I need to finish the things which was holding me back. It's them. They are what is holding me back.
They are my past and I don't want because of them our present and future gets destroyed. I need to finish this. I need to put an end to my past."
Sanyukta saw the confidence in his eyes and the pride in his talk. He was finally going to tell them what he feels.
She was waiting for this day. Waiting for him to finally speak his mind and confront them.
He has changed and that too for good. She was in love with this change and she didn't want him to look back.
"And you are?"
"Mr. Soham Verma, their son and this is my wife Mrs. Sanyukta Soham Verma. Now if you're done asking questions can I see them?"
"Sure, right this way sir."
The inspector got up and led them to Siya and Randhir's jail cells which were adjacent to each other.
"You have 10 minutes," the inspector stated as he left.
"S-Soham." Siya got up and held the bars of her cell, happy to see Soham standing before her.
She caressed the bar as if it was his face, her eyes now getting watery.
Randhir on the other hand stood up slowly, walking towards the bars not saying a word.
He stared at him to only to receive a straight and expressionless face from Soham.
"Son-"
"Don't even call me that." His voice was rough and bitter with venom spitting out in his tone as Randhir started to speak."I am not your son. I am nobody to you, do you understand? I have never been anything to you!
Especially you Randhir Verma."
Randhir's heart clenched as it was the first time Soham was calling him by his name and not dad.
"All my life all I wanted was LOVE but because of your stupid mistake, I had to suffer all my life. Randhir Verma you use to beat me day in and day out for things I never use to fucking do!
No matter how loud I use to shout and scream for you to stop you wouldn't, you continued to beat me.
You didn't just physically abuse me, you emotionally and mentally abused me. Even after you both broke me day after after day, I still fucking loved you, with all of my heart hoping that one day we all could be a normal family.
Do the both of you even fucking know how much it hurts when you tell me to my fucking face that you hate me, that I was a mistake, that I was unwanted!
Every night I used to cry myself to sleep with fact that my very own fucking parents hated my guts.
And the worst fucking part is that I still loved you!" He glanced over at Siya who wanted to hug him so badly. "Siya Verma, do you know that every year on mother's day I would make you a card with so much love, but I was too afraid to give you so I put them in a box.
The only thing I did was put a chocolate bar outside of your room and you used to think it was Aisha, but no it was me.
You guys never celebrated my birthday, you never spoke to me unless it was necessary, you guys never even fucking cared if I died or not!
Do you know how much that hurts?
I never wanted anything bad to happen to either of you, but everyday you broke me, into pieces.
You turned me into an alcoholic, a cold, cruel man who never knew what the hell it was to smile.
I had to go to therapy for 10 years to get out of the pit you both put me in.
Look!" Soham wiped the tears which managed to roll down his cheeks as he belted his heart out and walked up to their cells rolling up his sleeve. "These are the slit marks of the razor I used to try to kill myself with. Do you see how many slits are there? You both fucking caused this!"
Siya tried to reached for him through his cell but he moved away in disgust.
"Don't touch me! Don't you even try to touch me! You don't have the right to. I am glad that the both of you are behind bars. I am so fucking glad because you are paying for all the horrible things you have done.
To me, to Sanyukta, to Rajveer papa no wait, not Rajveer papa, dad. Rajveer papa is my real dad. The one who treats me like a son, not a piece of fucking trash. Oh and Urmi, she is my real mother. The person who actually gave me the love of a mother."
Soham was staring directly at Randhir who was, for the first time in tears.
"Soham I am-"
"Don't even say you are sorry. Don't even try to because you are not sorry, your guilt is killing you. It's killing you for treating me like garbage, your own blood and flesh.
I HATE you! I HATE the both of you!" Soham roared.
He sighed and looked on Sanyukta who was staring at him proudly.
"This is the first and last time I am going to visit you. You won't see my face ever again. Now, I hope that you both enjoy your life in this hell, goodbye forever."
Saying that he held Sanyukta's hand and walked away.
"Soham! Soham please wait! Soham!" Randhir yelled trying to get his attention. "I am sorry son! Please listen to me for once. Soham! I love you son!"
Randhir banged his hands against the bars in tears, guilt punching him in the face while Siya just sobbed on the floor.
Sanyukta saw the real Soham Verma. The man who can stand up for himself, the man who can now walk and talk with confidence, the man who can hold his head up high with pride.
She felt so proud of him that she wanted to hug him so tightly that he explodes.
Soham wiped his tears and sat down in the car exhaling sharply.
"If you want to be alone for a while to calm down we can go home."
"Why sweetheart? Why should I let them ruin our day? Forget them and focus on us, today is our day right?"
Soham happily started the car and drove off to Sanyukta's favorite ice cream parlor to surprise her.
~
"Ice cream Wonderland! I love this place!" Sanyukta shouted, ripping the seat belt from around her, ready to open the door of the moving car.
"Sanyukta calm down. Let me park first."
"Thank you so much Soham! I thought they shut this place down last week because it was going into losses and because of that I stopped going there. How did you know I love this place?"
"Well, last week Tuesday I saw you eating a tub of ice cream all by yourself," he told, emphasizing on 'yourself'. "And when you threw away the container I saw the logo, so by the way you were eating or more likely devouring the ice cream I came to a conclusion that you love their ice cream."
"You're the best!" She leaned in and kissed him on his cheek and moved to get out of the car but his hold stopped her.
"On the cheeks only baby?" Soham asked in a husky tone leaning closer to her.
"We are in the parking lot Soh."
"I don't care. Now where's my proper kiss?"
"You are different Soham, so different."
Chuckling, she leaned back over to him and pecked his kiss lips.
"Happy?"
"Very much."
Soham smiled at her as he came out of the car, with her following after.
Holding hands, Sanyukta and Soham walked inside the parlor and she couldn't take her eyes off of the decor and the aura of the place which brought back a lot of memories from her childhood.
Soham noticed her gawking at everything and caught her attention. "What happened sweetheart? You're looking on everything as if you want to steal something."
"Four months before my mother died, this ice cream parlor opened up and everyday we would come here and eat ice cream.
The both of us loved the same flavor so we used to eat out of the same cup and show off our cream moustaches. That's why I love this place so much."
"Well today I won't let that die. We will eat out of the same cup despite us having different ice cream preferences."
"Soh you don't-"
"Baby you mean the world to me and to make you happy I am ready to sacrifice anything. Now, no arguments and let's go and order," Soham said cupping her face.
"One large cup of- sweetheart what's your favorite ice cream flavor?"
"Strawberry."
"Strawberry ice cream."
Sanyukta smiled at her loving husband who was ready to make himself feel uncomfortable just for her.
She was wrong when she said that she never found her prince charming. She did find him and he's the best thing that has ever happened to her.
"Here you go sir, that would be 65 rupees," the cashier said.
Soham handed him the money and took Sanyukta to the table nearest to the window which had flowers outside.
"There's only one spoon, I will go and get another." Before Sanyukta could move Soham held her hand.
"Open wide."
She smiled and did what he said, now he was feeding her.
"What about you?"
"I will eat some eventually but I want to feed you first and we are sharing the same spoon."
Sanyukta took his hand and kissed it, lifting her head to look at him.
"Soham, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me."
Saying that she took the spoon from him and started to feed him with love and care.
