21 |The Little Things He Does|

Holding her shoulders tighter but with care, Soham tried to calm her down.

"I don't want to lose him too Soham," she spoke softly, her body numb and tired.

"Rajveer uncle won't leave you Sanyukta, he will stay with you forever but if he sees you crying then he will start to cry, won't he? She wiped her tears quickly after hearing his words and looked on his smiling. "He wants you to be strong and I know it."

'You are talking about strong? What do you know about being strong? You are a weak ass man and always will be,' his mind cursed, stabbing him with what he thought was the truth.

Trying not to give in, Soham closed his eyes fighting his own personal battle, but he still held on her as he wanted to help her with hers.

"I-I won't go anywhere princess." Hearing her father's soft, cracking voice her eyes fell on him, who was trying to keep his heavy eyes open.

"P-Papa."

Rajveer burst into tears upon hearing his daughter call him 'Papa'. It was only when she was broken badly she called him 'Papa'.

Coming out of Soham's arms, Sanyukta hugged him tightly but carefully, resting her head on his shoulders in tears.

"Soham why are standing there? Join us."

"I couldn't intervene."

"Come son."

Soham took baby steps to towards the bed and leaned over to hug him. Rajveer used his hand and pulled him down causing him to crash into Sanyukta's back.

Rajveer hugged both of his children tightly, his warm embrace making Soham fight with his tears.

He has never been in a fatherly embrace before. He never felt what is was like to hug a father, but Rajveer changed that.

Sanyukta didn't want to let go of him. She wanted to continue hugging him until she felt like it was time to let go.

She thought she would loose him the same way she lost her mother.

She thought that she would relive her childhood which was full of depression.

"I knew you wouldn't leave me papa. I knew it," her voice cracked just like his as she nuzzled her head more into his neck, holding him tighter.

"How could I leave my princess? And anyway, even if I died, I know that you are in good hands."

Patting Soham's back, he smiled at his daughter's concern and worry for him.

"This was planned," Soham spoke, coming out of Rajveer's hold.

"What do you mean son?" he asked.

"Someone deliberately called you for you come out of the house so that they can kill you."

"Soham do really think that? Come on son it was an accident and nothing else and the person who called me was my lawyer."

"Can we stop talking about the accident and focus on the fact that dad is alive please. If I think about it one more time my brain will explode," Sanyukta told pouting.

"I miss seeing you like this." He blew her a kiss, smiling at her.

"I am glad you're okay dad. At least now I can get some sleep. She has been crying nonstop since she the heard news," Soham told, sliding his hands into his pockets.

Looking away, Sanyukta bit her lip as she played with her fingers.

"After Antara left us she has been like that. If something happens to me then a river of tears flow down her cheeks. I guess you would just have to live with it beta."

"Dad you need rest so we will leave. I will come first thing tomorrow morning to visit you."

"Can't we stay a little more?" Soham asked.

"We both have work and he needs complete rest so come." Grabbing his hand, Sanyukta dragged him out of the ward after waving at her father.

"Thanks for comforting me when I needed it the most," she spoke breaking the silence in the car.

He shifted his gaze to her, who was busy playing around the string on her shirt.

"I couldn't see you like that so I had to."

The care in voice didn't go unheard to Sanyukta, and with a small smile crawling on her face she looked on him.

"About this morning-" before she could finish, he cut her off.

"It's fine. Are you hungry?"

"No, I ate enough at home."

Looking into her eyes keenly, narrowing his, he scoffed, turning his head back to road.

"We're stopping at Vaani's Cafe," he said, taking the left turn, opposite the road to the hospital.

"I told you I am not hungry then why-"

"You can lie to me but you can't hide it. Dad is fine and you saw it with your two eyes then why are you staving yourself like before?"

Sanyukta didn't know that answer herself, but why was he doing all of this though.

He did this before and directly after he went back to his old self, cold and rude.

Does he actually care for her?

Does it actually matter to him?

"I just don't want much to eat Soham. Really I am fine."

"You are going to eat everything that is given to you whether you like it or not."

"Fine!"

She folded her arms across her chest, turning her head away pouting like a child.

Chuckling at her antics, Soham parked in the parking lot of the cafe and looked on her.

"Dad was right, you do act like a child sometimes." Saying that he came out of the car, leaving Sanyukta wondering when her father told him that little detail.

"Soham. Soham," she called running after him. "When did dad tell you this?"

"Does it mater?"

"Yes." Nodding her head like a 6 year old, he ran his hand through his hair smiling.

"When I went to visit him. He warned me about your childish actions and your pranks. Well I guess I was kind of late for the pranks wasn't I?" Raising his eye brown at her remembering that lunch incident, he walked inside with her behind of him.

Chuckling at herself and her mischief, she murmured something to herself. "I am not childish."

"Really now Sanyukta?" Soham asked shocking the life out of her.

'How did he hear that?' she thought.

"You aren't quite a soft speaker sweetheart."

He sat around a table near the window beside the emergency exit and waiting for her to sit, he watched as she mocked him.

Siting down in front of the now smiling Soham, she noticed that there was something on his face which wasn't always there.

A smile. A genuine smile.

THE Soham Verma, the man who knew nothing about smiling nor any other expression other than keeping a blank face, was smiling at that too effortlessly at her actions.

Sanyukta quickly took out her phone and took his picture without him seeing and saved it as her wallpaper.

She wanted to cherish every single moment of the little change that was going on in his life. She wanted to looked back at the pictures to smile and caress it, remembering that moment.

"Get up for a minute," he spoke, pulling her out of her lala land.

"Why?"

"Just get up."

Doing what she was told to do, she watched as he walked over to her, taking out something from his pocket.

Her eyes fell on the small jewelery box in which he took out and now opened.

"Another necklace Soham what was the-"

He placed his finger on her lips, stopping her from talking.

"Happy birthday."

He remembered. He actually remembered.

Sanyukta still remembers the day when she told about her birthday, and honestly she thought he would forget since, as he said, she had no place in his life.

"You remembered?" she asked, her eyes tearing up as she looked him straight in the eye.

"How could I forget? You would obviously remember mine."

That was a fact she knew was true. No matter how he might treat her, she knew there was some good inside of him and to bring light to his life she would do anything.

"Thank you!" Sanyukta hugged him tightly, wrapping her arms around his neck making him stagger back a little with him holding her waist.
