Slow Days
It turned out, Sean did know David and Marvin. They lived on the same floor of an apartment block. They even got arrested once together. Although the charges were dropped. Elliot paced Dickie's room angrily. Not angry at Dickie, angry at himself for not paying more attention to the kids that his son hangs out with. "Dad, it's not your fault. Even if you knew about Sean I wouldn't have listened." Dickie has been trying to ease the guilty pacing of his father for an hour. "Olivia! Thank God, tell dad that it's not his fault what happened to me," he said as soon as Liv entered the room.
She had brought another duffel with clean clothes. Elliot looked at her, daring her to tell him. She smiled at him, "Elliot, it isn't your fault." He scoffed and took the bag into the bathroom to change.
He came back out a few minutes later and handed the bag to Liv. "Thanks Liv," he said, distracted. She sighed and looked at Dickie who shrugged.
"Uh, Dickie, how long are you in for?" She asked.
He laid his head back with a groan. "Another two weeks so my skull can mend more, then home for a while."
She nodded in approval. "Nice, well, I'm glad you're okay," she touched his foot lightly. "I'll leave you two alone."
Elliot watched her go with a longing look. He wanted so badly to go after her, but he needed to be with his son. "Dad, go after her." Elliot looked at his son, confused. Just around a month ago, he was angry at Elliot for being with Liv, but now he was telling him to go after her. "Go!"
He didn't need more encouragement. He ran out the door to where he knew Liv was disappearing. "Liv!" He jogged through the halls to the elevator where she was just getting on. The doors were closing when he called out again, "Liv!" She quickly stopped the doors and stepped aside as Elliot ran into the elevator beside her.
"Elliot, what's wro-" Her question was cut off when he enveloped her in a kiss, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close. It was a few minutes before she kissed back. When they broke apart, gasping for breath, she cocked her head slightly. "What was that?" She let out a long sigh mixed with a chuckle.
"Thank you for everything," He whispered.
Liv smiled at him, cupping his cheek. She kissed him again before slightly shoving him away. "Go back to Dickie."
After another week, Dickie was released on bed rest. He was healing better than anyone thought he would. Elliot was torn between going back to his apartment with Liv or going to Kathy to see if she needed help with Dickie. In the end, Dickie said he'd call if he needed help from him. Elliot was sort of grateful at Dickie's change in attitude.
He decided to stop by the store to grab some flowers for Liv. After their kiss in the elevator, they didn't speak about it again. She was too busy trying to get the kids that hurt Dickie. He was too busy trying to make sure Dickie would live. He decided on daisies. Roses seemed too cliche and daisies are happy and bright.
When he entered his apartment, screaming was coming from the bedroom. EJ must be tired and needing his nap. He saw Liv's purse by the door on the table and smiled. Liv must be in the bathroom. He set the flowers up on the counter where she would see coming out of the bathroom. Then he went to the bedroom where EJ was screaming his lungs out. His face was red and his legs were kicking.
"Oh, buddy, what's wrong," he whispered, picking up the screaming boy. As soon as he started shushing EJ, the boy quieted down. He started walking in circles around the bedroom, soothing his son to sleep. His son. There was no doubt that this sweet boy was his now. He smiled as EJ fell asleep, thumb in his mouth.
"Beautiful." Elliot looked up to see Liv leaning against the door, holding the flowers. She smiled and held up the flowers, smelling them. "The flowers," she teased. He scoffed as he went to put EJ down.
He fussed a little at being put down, but when Elliot patted his stomach gently, he gave a long stretch and eased up. He and Liv went out to the living room. They sat on the couch, trying to figure out how to start the conversation. They already had said they were a couple. However, with EJ here, they hadn't had any time for romance. That kiss in the elevator was the first one they had.
"So," Liv started, "the kiss in the elevator."
Elliot chuckled. "Dickie made me go after you."
Liv shook her head. "So, Dickie is more romantic than you?" She laughed at Elliot's open mouth. "Relax, El, I'm joking."
