Eleanor's POV
I held my book tightly in front of my chest.
I was falling, hitting the branches.
Instead of cracking my head of the dirt, I fell on something else.
There was an arm under my knees and another arm under my back.
I slowly opened my eyes.
When I saw who caught me, I immediately jumped onto the ground landing on my boots.
"AHH!! I'm so sorry! Did I hurt you?!" I yelped.
"Hahahahaha I'm starting to think she's falling for you Enoch.... Literally." An invisible source said, making a thump as if jumping from the tree.
Ugh Millard. The puns!!
"Shut up Millard! As if you've never fallen off a tree before!" Enoch said, glaring at the space.
"And no Eleanor, you didn't hurt me. But you are quite heavy for your size." The dead-riser said, turning to me.
I laughed.
"Aww you guys are cute, but I do believe it's time for dinner." Millard said, putting on a cap. He walked ahead of us, into the house.
"How did you catch me though? Was this planned?!" I asked, glancing at Enoch, then at my shoes.
"I always sit under this tree and then you just fell on me. And no. This was not planned." He laughed.
We walked back inside the house, receiving stares and snickers.
"Quiet down children, we must begin dinner right now." Miss Peregrine shushed everyone.
There were two seats left, side by side.
Ugh..
******

I woke up with a sharp pain in my leg.
Emma and Bronwyn were seated by the side of my bed with worried looks on their faces.
"Why do you guys look horrified?" I asked them, trying to shift my back to the headboard.
"You don't remember?" Asked Bronwyn.
"Huh?"
"You've fallen down the old oak tree just a few hours ago." Replied Emma.
"What?!"
"You were unconscious when we found you. Enoch patched you up."
I uncovered the sheets, revealing my damned leg.
It was bandaged.
"But Enoch caught me!"
"No he didn't. He witnessed you fall from the tree. He is quite slow." Said Bronwyn.
"It was Millard's fault!" She added.
"You missed dinner so we brought you some tea with a biscuit." Emma exclaimed, placing a tray on my lap. Right away, I began to wolf down the biscuit and take a giant gulp of the tea.
"WAIT! ELEANOR IT'S STILL HO-"
Too late.
I immediately spit out the burning liquid and stuffed my mouth with the fabric of the covers.
My tongue and entire mouth burned as if I had kissed fire itself.
"AHH!!" I hissed in pain.
As if on cue, Enoch burst through the door, Miss Peregrine on suit.
"What 'appened! Eleanor are ye a'right?!" Said Enoch, oddly sprinting toward my bedside, pushing Emma out of the way. By pushing, I mean lifting her up and throwing her roughly to the floor.
"Enoch!" Said Miss Peregrine, "Polite persons do not push or shove fellow wards, and they most certainly do not burst through doors like a madman!"
"Well, sorry Emma." Said Enoch, bowing his head in shame.
"For what, Mr O'Connor?" Miss P said, raising her eyebrow.
"I'm sorry for having my good looks shock you enough to make you fall!" Snickered Enoch.
"Enoch Seth O'Connor! I insist that you drop this attitude right now!" The Bird said, emphasizing Enoch's middle name, making him cringe.
"Ughhh." Enoch groaned, "But being polite is exhausting!"
"That's it!" Miss Peregrine gave up and snatched Enoch by the ear and dragged him out of the room.
"What was that about?" I asked, trying the swivel my legs over the side of the bed so that I could help Emma. Bronwyn stopped me.
"No Eleanor! You must stay in bed! I'll help her!"
With one swift move of her arm, Emma was up.

"Enoch was probably just showing off."
******

It's been hours since Emma and Wyn left. I basically forced them to because I felt bad about them staying by my side for a long time.
Right now, I don't even know what to do, other than just stare at the ceiling.
Enoch's sassiness hit me and it made me laugh out loud.
I closed my eyes for a little while but not being able to fall asleep.
It's funny how we have to pretend to go to sleep to actually fall asleep.
It's also kinda scary because of how when you close your eyes, you see nothing but darkness, and all my life, the only thing that terrified me the most, was the dark and what lurks in it's shadows.
A sudden knock made me half alert.
"Who is it?" I called out.
"Enoch." Said a grumpy voice.
"And Claire!" Included a cheery sing-song tone
"Come in."
Claire quickly barged through the door and jumped on my bed, followed by Enoch who just stood by the door.
"Are you gonna come in or not?" I asked.
"Ehh.... I don' feel like it, too fa' away." Enoch replied.
I shrugged and noticed a box that Claire was holding. It was about the size of an average book. She noticed that I glanced at it and immediately shoved it into my hands, giggling.
"It's for you!" She said, smiling up at me.
"For me?"
"Mhmm!"
I gave the little girl a small hug, one that was filled with gratitude.
Claire squirmed her arms out of my grip and hugged me back.
"You should open it!" Claire said.
I lifted the lid to reveal a beautiful doll with brown hair and green eyes, just like me.
I took it out of the box and held it to my chest.
This was the first ever give I've received from anyone in my life.
"Don't thank me, thank Enoch!" Claire blurted out, causing the boy to wave his arms at her, to shush her up, for me to not notice.
"You made this?" I asked.
"Well..... yeah I did.. who else would? I mean... anyone could do better it's just that I so happen to be the best dead-riser and doll maker on Cairnholm..." He stammered.
I laughed, joined by Claire, making Enoch turn red and glare at the ground.
"Chill, O'Connor." I said, flicking my fingers so that a small gust of wind would blow his curls from his face.
Instantly as if instinct, Enoch reached up and grabbed his hair.
"I-I I gotta go..." He mumbled and stepped out of my room.
"Enoch said he fancies you." Teased Claire, "Do you like him too?"
"No. Well I do like him, but not in that way of course, I mean, we just met."
She nodded her head.
"Do you want me to tuck you in?" I asked her.
"Yes please. Can you read a stories from the Tales too?" She hinted, her eyes filled with joy.
Although I did not know what the 'Tales' was, I figured that it was somewhere down in the library.
Claire took me by the hand and led me to her fancy baby-pink bedroom.
To my surprise, the Tales were already placed on her nightstand.
She climbed into bed as she flipped to her favorite story.
Claire stopped at one called 'The Tale Of Cuthbert'. She liked how Millard decided to finish it by his own opinion, so she insisted that I read that too.
Just before I even got to Millard's annotation, Claire was out like a light. I smiled and kissed her forehead, bringing the sheets just below her chin.
I left the Tales of the Peculiar in her room and decided to read them maybe tomorrow.

Good night Miss Wren, good night peculiar animals.
