Summary: My take on when Ezra was shot.
Notes: So I watched The Last Battle again. I felt ripped off when Ezra was shot and just shook it off like nothing happened. Here's my version of what happened when he was shot. Enjoy...
"Rex, get between us!" Kanan ordered the Clone captain. Rex stepped in between the two Jedi as two Destroyer Droids rolled up and boxed them in.
"Ezra, incoming!" Rex warned. Ezra blocked the blasts from behind while Kanan did the same in front. Rex fired as best as he could. Unfortunately, the droids' shields repelled all his shots.
"Push and fire, now!" Kanan pushed the droid with the Force, knocking out its old shield temporarily. Rex used his opportunity and blasted the vulnerable droid. The Destroyer Droid's circuits sparked as it walked uncontrollably and fired into a wall, blowing itself up. Meanwhile, Ezra was deflecting the other droid's shots. He fought continuously, but his arms were growing tired and he was a bit shaken up by Rex shouting in his face. It brought up old doubts. Those doubts made him unfocused and he missed one.
Ezra cried out and fell to the floor, leaving Rex exposed. Rex scrambled to blast the droid, but he was too slow and the Destroyer droid blasted his helmet off, knocking him to the ground. Kanan was left to defend himself from the rolling death ball alone. Rex quickly recovered and desperately threw his helmet at the droid's face. The helmet destroyed the shield, leaving the droid vulnerable.
"That worked," Rex mumbled in amazement (I have watched that part so many times and I'm still amazed that it worked). He aimed his weapon and blasted the Droidika. It crumpled to the floor. Finally, it was quiet.
"Shield overheated. That droid's too old," Kanan remarked.
"Huh. Just like me," Rex joked. Then Kanan turned his attention to his Padawan.
"Ezra?" He knelt beside his Padawan. Ezra wasn't unconscious, but his eyes were closed tightly in pain and his teeth were clenched to keep in the moans. He lay on the ground unmoving as Rex examined the wound.
"Kanan, it's bad, but it won't kill him... hopefully," he added under his breath. He glanced at the blaster burn under Ezra's right arm at his ribs. It will be painful and difficult to fight, but the kid will probably live until he receives medical attention. He might be able to move like the wound isn't there if there is no damage to his ribs.
"Where was he hit?" The blind Jedi asked.
"Under his right arm at his ribs. He'll live, but it may be difficult for him to move, let alone fight," Rex reported. Kanan felt for the wound where Rex described it would be. He fingers gently touched the injury. Ezra gasped and sucked air through his teeth in pain.
"Sorry," Kanan apologized, quickly withdrawing his hand from the burn.
"I'm fine," Ezra insisted and opened his eyes. He tried to sitting up, only to gasp and lay back down onto his back.
"Hey, relax," Kanan soothed. "You were hit in the ribs. It will be painful to move."
Once again, Rex witnessed the powerful bond between a Master and Padawan. He knew how much they cared for each other and that the bond could never be broken. He had noticed the same in General Skywalker and Commander Tano.
"I can't. We need to keep moving." The boy attempted to sit up again, but started to fall back down. Kanan caught him and helped him sit up.
"Easy," Kanan told him. He helped Ezra stand. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'll be fine," Ezra answered with some strain in his voice. Kanan and Rex simultaneously raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. Ezra stood up, holding his side. He wobbled and Kanan caught him. The boy smiled a thanks to his Master. Kanan and Rex started to jog down the hall to the command center with Ezra following behind. Ezra tried to run the same speed as the two older men, but each step hurt his injured ribs and he began to slow down. Black spots appeared in his vision and Ezra started to feel dizzy.
"Kanan," Ezra called weakly, leaning against the wall. They stopped and turned around to find the boy close to passing out. Kanan hurried back and wrapped Ezra's left arm around the back of his neck, supporting him. "Thanks," the teen mumbled and the two Jedi stumbled after the clone war veteran.

"Roger, rodger," Ezra saluted Kilani, wincing as the movement sent pain to his wound. The image faded so Ezra put his arm down. "I can't imagine fighting that many droids all the time!" Ezra exclaimed to Rex.
"Well, if you think that was bad, let me tell you about the Battle of Geonosis!" Rex chuckled.
Kanan smiled. "Maybe some other time, captain," he responded as he felt Ezra resting against him. The poor kid was exhausted from that last battle and his injury. The Master pulled out two seats for himself and his Padawan. Kanan sat down in one and pulled Ezra into another. "You can rest now," Kanan whispered, recalling to before when Ezra refused to rest. The boy nodded and fell asleep, leaning on his Master. Rex, Kanan, and Zeb smiled at the sleeping boy. He really had a long, tiring day.
"This is Ghost to away team. Specter 1, are you there?" Hera asked through Kanan's comlink.
"Hera, I was just about to call you." He spoke quietly so he wouldn't wake up Ezra. "How was your day?"
"We're tracking two shuttles leaving the system. Is everything alright? Did you have trouble securing the bombs?" As Hera was speaking, Kanan scratched the back of his head as he did when he was nervous.
"Well, the bad news is, we didn't get the bombs and one of our members is injured." He glanced down at his peacefully sleeping apprentice. "The good news is, we don't need a pick up because we found a new Phantom. Tell Sabine she's gonna need a paint job." Kanan ended the conversation and the two ships jumped into hyperspace, headed to the rebel base.
Cue the CLONE WARS music! I was so happy when that played at the end. It was like a tribute to the old war. I feel like a clone war veteran like Rex or Ahsoka. When they talk about the Clone Wars in Rebels I'm like, "Oh yeah! I remember that! Clankers! Yes! Just like old times!" Ya know? That part when Rex was expecting more droids to come, the "wave after wave", well, I was expecting that too. I was also surprised that the droids stopped coming. Just so weird that I feel like a veteran. It's like I fought the clone war with my favorite characters and now, I'm part of the rebellion. Can anyone relate?
