Summary: Hera tells her son a story about the legendary Ghost Crew.
Five-year-old Jacen Syndulla bounced in his seat, which happened to be the copilot's seat. Little did he know that his father, Kanan Jarrus, sat in that very same chair.
The beautiful blue and white shine of hyperspace fascinated the boy as he stared at the majesty before him. Jacen never grew tired of that view.
Mommy had told him that they were on their way to a planet called Lothal. Jacen was excited. Mommy had told him many stories about that place. It was where his daddy, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Zeb, Chopper and mommy fought amazing battles against the Empire and freed the planet. Jacen was fascinated by these tales, but he was too young to realize how real it was and how much pain this war caused to the people he knew as his heroes.
"Jacen! It's time for bed," Hera called to her son as she entered the cockpit. A smile bloomed on her face when she spotted the young boy staring in awe at hyperspace. It was a view that she herself loved. She knew that Jacen would be a pilot, just like his mommy.
Jacen jumped off the tall chair and followed his mother out of the cockpit. The boy slept in a room that didn't smell the nicest, but Jacen didn't mind. As far as he knew, it always smelled like that. Because of his youth, Jacen slept on the bottom bunk.
"Can't I have the top bunk?" Jacen had asked. Hera stared sadly at the bunk that used to hold her other son. The one who was missing.
"When you're older, Jacen," she replied with a sad smile.
When the green haired boy climbed into bed, Hera tucked him in with the covers just below the chin.
"Mommy," Jacen began. "Can you tell me a story?" Hera smiled fondly at her and Kanan's son.
"Of course, honey. What story would you like?"
"Tell me one about daddy and Ezra and Sabine and Zeb and Chopper and you!" Jacen chattered happily, naming all his heroes. The child didn't notice the sadness that crossed his mother's face.
"All right, Jacen." Hera took a deep breath and began, "It was a simple story about a boy who was lost, and a girl who was broken. They fought alongside a survivor, a war veteran and a fallen knight. I led them into battle against an evil so terrible, it tried to black out the stars. We fought for each other, we fought for those who could not. But we never imagined it would end like this..."
