Prologue: The night of her disappearance

Dwayne sat in front of the fire with the rest of his buddies as they watched his sister Enola dance with the other girls in the moonlight, she glanced over at him and flipped him off.

Once she was done she sat down next to him. "Hey DD, did you like the dance we're working on?" she asked, as she sat shoulder to shoulder with her brother.

"You did awesome sis!" he said, as he wrapped an arm around her.

"You think so?" she asked, and he laughed as he messed up her hair.

"Of course!" he said, as he shoved her playfully causing her to laugh.

"Dwayne, you messed up my hair!" she said, as she pushed him off the log.

"Ow! Thanks a lot sis!" he said, as he playfully glared at her. "You're welcome, birdie." she said, as she pulled the feather out of his hair making his friends laugh.

"Enola, give me that!" he cried, as she placed it in her own hair before sprinting off.

"You've gotta catch me first, grandpa!" she called over her shoulder causing him to leap to his feet and dash after her.

"Nobody calls me grandpa!" he yelled, as he caught up with her and playfully tackled her to the ground.

"Got you." he said, but she rolled out from beneath him and ran off again.

"Enola, you stinker!" he cried, as he ran after her again.

When there was no response he looked around nervously. "Enola?" he called, as he continued to walk along the sandy path.

"Dwayne!!!" came a scream from up ahead, and he looked up just in time to see his sister clawing at the ground in fright before she was yanked into the undergrowth with nothing but the slightest rustle of ferns.

"ENOLA!!!!!!" he yelled, as he ran to the spot where he had just seen her only to find the feather she had in her hair swaying in the soft midnight breeze.
