Chapter Five |♠ Rainforest ♠|
Dedicated to ujuritaellianna
For the love and advice she's given to me💙
Chikamsi walked slowly upstairs, her parents had given her an ultimatum,it was her last warning.
She was to either drop influencing completely, or get up her grades in the next three weeks.
That would mean writing a lot of make up tests since she had missed the first set of tests for the term.
Grades were just letters on a piece of paper, they shouldn't define her, but they did.
Eniola was probably practicing at this time she sighed, glancing at the wall clock on the wall on her way up.
She changed into a pair of green flip flops, put on a matching bucket hat and went back downstairs.
Her mother who sat in the living room, glanced at her daughter briefly, before turning back to the television finding whatever was being said on the news more important than wherever her only child was going.
Chikamsi slipped out the door, muttering a ‘goodbye' and a ‘see you later' to her mother, she didn't reply.
Rainforest Cafe was just a couple blocks down the road, but it felt like forever as she walked past several houses, all quiet and posh looking, wondering what went on inside those buildings.
For once she was grateful she had a preexisting audience on Instagram.
She took out her phone, silenced her notifications and began to scroll through her feed, wondering what next content to create.
There were a few questions she hadn't answered from the last ‘Ask me a question' story poll she had put up two weeks ago.
An idea came to her, she would shoot a video, answering all the questions while she was at Rainforest Cafe.
The place was almost empty, as usual. Everytime she got there people had already left.
The bell above the door jingled as she walked in and sat at a table, waiting for a waiter to come take her order.
She noticed someone in a corner, the Rainforest Cafe was always dark.
The dark green translucent windows, coupled with the green vines and plants decorated everywhere gave it an etheral feel.
A lady, not more than twenty by her observation, walked up to her, she fumbled with the menu a little bit before handing it over to Chikamsi, and she concluded Ifeoma as her name tag read was either new, or she knew Chikamsi and she was nervous and bursting with excitement.
Her friendly smile made up for the initial awkwardness, and Chikamsi smiled back.
“Do you have cream latte and vanilla cupcake this evening?" she asked putting down the menu and facing the brown skinned waitress.
Ifeoma nodded, took the menu off of the table and jotted down Chikamsi's order.
“Mind if I shoot a video here?" Chikamsi enquired bringing out her phone, tapping on the screen twice.
As she explained to the lady that she was an influencer.
Ifeoma nodded, her features brightened up and she got all giddy in excitement.
“I know you Chikamsi, I follow you on Instagram.
I mean, sorry you can shoot here, no problem. Let me just tell the other customer that there's someone videoing incase he doesn't want to be put inside."
She said turning around to leave.
Ifeoma stopped halfway, turned back and added with excitement,
“you can put me in the video if you want o Chikamsi, me I don't mind blowing like you" she said.
Chikamsi laughed, she made a mental note to advertise the Rainforest Cafe's brand in her next post,Ifeoma was quite friendly and full of live, and she loved it.
“Thank you so much Ifeoma. Shebi you know we're Igbo sisters abi? I can't forget my sister na" she giggled, placing a hand over her mouth to stifle her laughter.
Ifeoma's eyes widened in realization,
“Chikamsi you're so nice. I didn't even realize we are Igbo sisters. That's what those girls from Castron High call themselves."
She smiled at Chikamsi, saying something about how some 'celebrities' were so nice as she hurried off to tell the other customer that there was someone shooting.
A tall figure clad in a sweatshirt with words written on it approached her. He seemed to be headed for the exit, the door Chikamsi sat next to.
She moved her chair to give him access and turned around to face him.
He wore a green bucket hat, and once Chikamsi caught a glimpse of what was written boldy on his sweatshirt she knew who it was.
“Tobiloba Daniel" she called.
The tall boy stopped, cocked his head to the side and squinted at her for a few seconds, and then straightened his features then smiled when he recognized her.
“Chikamsi abi?" He asked leaning against a metal chair.
“She told me someone was filming, I didn't know it was you" he said pointing a thumb towards the counter where Ifeoma sat doing everything to look like she wasn't watching Chikamsi.
“No problem. So you're even here, and you're wearing a bucket hat too" she squealed, taking the hat off Tobi's head, she continued
“I'm wearing a bucket hat already, so you can't.."
“Hold up"she said, her movement stopping abruptly.
“Tobi, you can film this video video with me, will you?" she asked looking up and peering into his face.
He stayed quiet for a minute, a moment. It almost seemed like he was listening to someone.
He shrugged, sat down on a chair next to her and smiled. “Why?"
“Ehn? Why what?" Chikamsi asked, her lips turned downward in confusion.
“Why should I join you? Weren't you about to do it yourself?" He asked folding his arms infront of him.
“Well, I just this idea, we could be the bucket crew. It's purely for Instagram. It won't go anywhere else" she said, hands raised to show her honesty.
“Chikamsi I'm sorry, I don't feel led to," he motioned towards the counter,
“You can ask Ifeoma to do it with you" he suggested.
The older girls eyes lit up in excitement, looking up from the counter and grinning from ear to ear.
Chikamsi gave an apologetic smile to the waitress and turned back to Tobi.
“Tobi please. We're from the same school, JHS Crew will love it. And my fans will be glad to see it nau. Please." She begged.
The light skinned girl's features contorted in a frown as Tobiloba gave her the apologetic smile she had given the waitress a few minutes ago and declined.
“Chikamsi I'm sorry, but I have a lot going on right now, being on Instagram with you wouldn't be the wisest thing for me to do."he said.
He stood up and pushed in the chair, leaving the cafe.
The bell above the dark green door, jingled as it shut behind him.
“Ifeoma please cancel my order, I'm no longer hungry" Chikamsi said, and picked up her phone from the cold metal table, turning to leave.
“I'm guessing asking you for a picture wouldn't be the wisest thing to do right now" Ifeoma sighed dusting the counter.
“Yes, it would be a very bad time." Chikamsi said and walked out, shutting the door behind her.
A few houses after Rainforest Cafe, Chikamsi felt bad.
Ifeoma was a fan, and a very nice person. And even though Tobi had decided to be a jerk, she could have been nicer to the lady.
Chikamsi sighed and turned around.
