Wylie's perspective:
Wylie couldn't move no matter how hard he struggled. The ice held him fast.

Valerie strutted between her trapped, helpless prey. "That was easier than I thought." She walked up to Grady and ran a finger down his frozen arm.

He winced, holding back a scream as the ice seemed to grow inward, puncturing his skin. Blood pooled beneath the frozen layer.

"If you're going to kill us, why not just do it?" Marella spat.

Valerie walked over to the immobilized Pyrokinetic.

She grabbed Marella's chin. "Trust me, I would like nothing more, and I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if I did," she released Marella's face, leaving a freezer burn on the girl's cheek. "but I made a promise to protect my sanity."

She walked to a spot along the edge of the mist, facing the fog. "But the ogres," She raised her clenched fists, freezing the mist, and dropped them to her sides, bringing the millions of tiny icicles crashing to the ground.

Behind the veil of fog, awaited three massive ogres, who looked less than excited to be there.
Valerie turned, smirking at her prey. "They didn't make any promises."

The ogres charged forward.

Marella's ice prison shattered and she sent swirling flames to melt the boys's bonds.

Soon, Grady, Tam, and Marella were going head to head with the ogres and Wylie was left to face Valerie alone.

They circled each other, Valerie sizing up her opponent and Wylie trying to figure out what might trigger her memories.

Wylie jumped aside as a blast of ice shot from the ground towards him. "Valerie please. It's me. It's your brother."

She paused, but all she gave him was a mocking look. "Well that's rich. Did you really think I'd fall for that?" She shot a spike of ice at him, which he barely avoided.

Wylie tripped over a rut in the ground and fell onto his back.

Valerie stalked towards him. "Get up."

His body moved without his consent.

Valerie smirked and clenched her fists.

Wylie stiffened, unable to move. His body wouldn't respond.

Valerie stared intently at his shoulder.

It started to sweat, but soon the heat was unbearable.

Wylie felt the searing blood course through the veins in his arm. Slowly, painfully, his skin began to blister.

She was burning him from the inside out, boiling his blood like she evaporated water.

He forced himself not to scream as the burns spread. "Please, Valerie. You have to remember. The time we spent in the Silver Tower together, when I surprised you with a hug from behind, you almost socked me in the face."

She scoffed. "That part sounds accurate."

Wylie took a shaky breath, teeth clenched. "Your first word was brother. It made mom and dad jealous." He squeezed his eyes shut, fighting the pain. "You used to hide all of your prattles pins behind your dresser so no one would take them." He bit down on his lip until he tasted blood. "Please," he had one more chance, "we used to have 'slumber parties' in my room during storms because you were afraid to lose me too."

Valerie loosened her fist and stepped back, glaring at Wylie's crumpled, burned figure.

The blistered skin had spread all the way up his arm and halfway across his chest, just showing under the collar of his shirt.

He breathed hard, relieved that his blood was slowly cooling to normal temperature. He met his sister's gaze.

"You don't know anything about me." But her eyes betrayed her. Something he had said had struck her, but it hadn't triggered anything.

"Wylie!" Tam's voice cut through the silence.

Wylie felt himself levitate off the ground and fly backwards, landing near the others.

Grady held the ogres at bay while Marella fiddled with the pathfinder.

Valerie marched towards them.

"Tam." Marella tossed him the wand and formed a ring of fire around them.

Tam locked the crystal into place. "Got it!"

Grady grabbed Marella's hand; she grabbed Tam's; and Tam reached for Wylie's.

As Valerie snuffed out Marella's flames, Wylie met her gaze and released a flash of light.

Before Valerie or the ogres had recovered from the blinding flash, Grady pulled them into the light.
