Return
Sophie's perspective:
Sophie sat under Calla's Panakes tree, breathing in the fresh air. They still had no idea where Valerie was and no clue who this new Neverseen member was.
She breathed in the pleasant fragrance of the Panakes blossoms. Is this what it had felt like for the others when she had been kidnapped? You know, when they didn't think she was dead? She hated that she had put people through this. And not just once, she was sure.
Verdi roared from her pasture.
Sophie straightened. That wasn't her normal roar. She stood and dashed down the hill, almost tripping on the grass.
When she reached Verdi's enclosure, a dark feminine figure stood at the bars, sending a cloud of frost and snowflakes towards the poor T-Rex. It was the woman who had attacked Tam. Verdi's feathers were already tipped with frost and her feet were frozen to the ground.
"You!" Sophie pulled out a goblin throwing star.
The woman turned. "I suppose it would've been proper to announce myself." She thrust out her hand and spikes of ice burst towards Sophie.
Sophie lunged our of the way. "Sandor!"
The woman dropped her hand and the ice plumed into steamed. "That's right. Call for your guard dog."
Sandor and Sophie's other bodyguards approached. She bolted towards them.
"Not so fast." The woman's voice seemed to echo through Sophie's mind as her body froze, refusing to move.
Her breaths quickened and her heart beat out of her chest. What was happening? Who was this?
Bo, Sophie's ogre bodyguard, lunged at the woman, but stopped mid-jump and collapsed to the ground unconscious.
Sophie only knew one elf that could do that. Please no. Please, please no.
Flori jumped onto the woman's back.
The woman clenched her fists and a pillar of ice threw Flori to the ground.
Tarina darted forward with her sword right as Sandor hurled a throwing star.
The woman sidestepped the throwing star and parried Tarina's sword with a frozen blade.
As the two fought, Sandor made his way to Sophie and scooped her into his arms.
The woman flashed him with a glare and he dropped Sophie, shaking as he tried to move.
Soon, Tarina was on the ground unconscious.
The woman strutted over to Sandor and grabbed him by the chin. "Nice try."
Around her fingers, frost began to form on Sandor's skin. He breathed hard as the ice spread. He was in way too much pain for the woman to just be freezing over his skin.
"Stop!" Sophie couldn't take his screams anymore.
The woman met her desperate gaze. "Fine." She released Sandor, who toppled limply to the ground. "I'm here for you anyway."
Sophie felt her body stiffen, as she knelt against her will. Ice formed around her limbs, binding her to the ground.
She managed to force her head up. "Who are you?"
"I'll spare the sob story." The woman threw back her hood and her mask fell away from her face.
Sophie's eyes widened as a million thoughts raced through her mind. "Valerie?" Her voice was barely a whisper.
Valerie cocked her head. "Hardly, the name's Bella. And you're going to pay for what you did to me."
