Part I - Chapter 3 - The Encounter

Henrietta wasn't expecting to see him. Yet there he was, standing before her like all the times she saw him in her dreams.

"Bl- " She covered her mouth and refrained herself from speaking out his name. She looked away from him, averting the gaze of his stormy grey eyes – those eyes that she knew so well. She longed for that moment. She had dreamed of him many times. She remembered him and every moment they spent together albeit it being one that occurred in her sleeping state. Still, she remembers everything, but does he?

The question resonated in her mind and she turned to look at the man who entered her compartment. He looked just as surprised as she was. Her heart beat fast. She clung on to that slight chance that perhaps he remembers her. People sometimes remember parts of their dream, she thought. Maybe he remembers, even if just a part of it.

"Oh! I am very sorry, Miss." He bowed his head upon learning his mistake. "I thought you were a man, not that you look like one, your cloak was turned. No, I meant your back was cloaked. Good grief, what am I saying?" He scratched the back of his head and Henrietta couldn't help but laugh a little. In her dream, he always did that whenever he was uncomfortable.

The man joined her laughter, his voice reverberating within the compartment brought Henrietta memories of when they laughed together, only this time it sounded even better.

"I am really sorry, Miss. What I meant was, your back was turned and your cloak disguised your true identity," he explained.

"You don't have to apologize. It was an honest mistake," Henrietta replied. She met his gaze and tried to find any sign that he might recognize her. Surely, he must've felt they already met somewhere.

"Thank you very much Miss." He smiled at her which she returned. He stared at her for a while and in those few seconds Henrietta waited with bated breath hoping that he'll recall her. It was him that broke off from their gaze, his cheeks lightly flushing as he casually touched the back of his head again. "Where are my manners? I haven't introduced myself and my business in this compartment." He bowed before extending an arm at her. "I am Blake Ford and I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to share your compartment with this gentleman as there is no other in this train that could accommodate me."

"You may take the seat, Bl – Mr. Ford," she corrected herself. "It is a pleasure to share this compartment with you."

"Thank you very much Miss -?"

Henrietta's heart sank. He didn't remember her. "Leigh. My name is Henrietta Leigh."

"Thank you very much Miss Leigh," he said. He propped his suitcase on the overboard compartment before settling on a seat opposite the lady.

Henrietta smiled at him but inside, her heart broke when he addressed her with formality. She was a stranger to him. He called her 'Miss Leigh' too when he first found her within the maze but after spending several dreams together, he made her a pet name.

"Hensley," she whispered but he didn't seem to hear. You always called me Hensley, she thought and her heart tore knowing that even if he heard her, he wouldn't know what that meant for her and him when they were still in their dreams.
